Never, have I seen this!!!!

I have a BIG problem.
As I sit here typing on my MacBook, I'm am looking at my HD losing memory. In the last 20 minutes, my hard drive went from 86GB to 85.52 GB. I am literally sitting here watching my HD getting smaller an smaller in real time. It now says 85.49GB.
Believe it or not, I didn't download anything today. What could be doing this?

I would suggest that, in addition to repairing permissions, you verify your disk in Disk Utility. It once happened to me that a folder was replicating itself like a crazy thing - taking up more and more disk space. When I tried to verify my hard drive, I was told it needed repair - I booted from the install disk and repaired the hard drive, and the problem was solved.
So check if your hard drive can be verified.
As to the memory - I went recently from 1 to 2 gigs, and of course it helps - but it may not be at the root of your current problem.

Never have i been this frustrated!!

hi everyone.
i am new to iwork. i love it. until i get to the export phase. Now, i can use photoshop, ilife, final cut, but never have i been so confused as now using keynote!
i made a short slideshow with music. i export to QT using sorenson3, audio included. Fine. QT file plays and sounds fine. Need to email to a client, who then needs to email to all his clients.
No sound, just video. Searched this great forum, found i need to archive and zip. did that, now its too big to email. The QT file is only 3.4 mg. But once archived with sound file, its now 19mb. My server only allows 10mb.
What the heck can I do???? I have spent all morning racking my brains and trying every configuration under the sun . Why is it so hard to export something??

I was chatting with the folx at eZedia about why the movies are always external to the main file, and the response had to do something with QuickTime's architecture being unable to handle files mapped internally if they were larger than 2 megs (I'll be glad when QuickTime is de-carbonated) and, rather than to try to intelligently leave in small files and outsource the larger ones, they just outsource them all. If this was the case, then I could see a smallish soundtrack file being able to be internal, but most likely not what most Keynote users will be using. That's why I thought the above, but I could have misunderstood the limitation as I've been unable to find a source that verifies it.
By the way, probably doesn't mean much, but TotallyHip now appears to re-inventing themselves as a design company. I WISH this meant something in terms of what to expect from QuickTime, but not holding my breath.

Never in all my years have I seen this cut and paste problem - can anyone help?

Hi all... I've been using Illustrator since v5, and never before has something foxed me as much as this...
I have a document supplied from a customer to make up into packaging artwork. To start with, the file is 19MB which set the alarm bells ringing, as it has no images etc, and is fairly simply made up (it's a milk carton sleeve). However, when you copy any single element (even a simple shape) from the file and paste to a new doc it takes literally 2 mins to copy, and a minute or so to paste it into the new doc, and then comes in with nearly 100 colours - all called 'Deleted Global Color (1-100)'. You can delete these colours by selecting remove unused colours, but even then when you save the file down (an A4 page with a simple shape coloured in black), the file is 47MB!!! (which is obviously why I can't attach it)...
I've looked in the appearances etc and nothing seems untoward - all masks have been disabled etc. As you can imagine, the file is very hard to work with, and even to deconstuct it is proving to be an impossible feat.
If anyone has ever seen anything like this or if anyone knows what might be causing the problems or can suggest any way of tackling it, then I can be most grateful. I can supply a file if needed, but as mentioned, they are quite large!

Thanks Tom - I'm sure this is related to my problem in regards to the file having a severe 'lame ducks' problem. However, the answer in Teri Pettit's post (http://adobe.groupbrowser.com/t177412.html) is very specific to the user's problem she is addressing, so when I followed the instructions it didn't work for my file as I couldn't locate the offending string of text, as that must have been specific to the file that was being looked at.
My file seems much worse! The file Teri was looking at was saving down at 6-8MB - mine saves down anything between 40-80MB. Though I'm sure it is the same problem.
I could really do with getting in touch with Teri Petitt, but I am unsure as to how I can do this, as the adobe group browser doesn't let you reply to posts.
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction - I feel like I'm getting closer to a solution, just hope I can get in touch with Teri...

Please excuse a newbie's ignorance - I've never posted to any forums before :-)
I am using Win7 Professional and IE9 on a well-spec'd HP PC (4GM Ram, dual core, lost of hard disk space etc).
I have successfully downloaded Adobe Reader (install_reader 10....exe @ 703kb) using Win7.
I cannot run this file (I have tried all I talk about here with Reader 9 and with Firefox; all the same errors noted below get repeated)
The error message is headed: "UI_ReaderInstaller" and the text in the message is "Only a single instance of thsi application can run"
The only option given is an "OK" button and leaves one having achieved nothing!
I have never had a previous version of Adobe reader on this PC; this is a first time install attempt.
If I search my PC for "UI_ReaderInstaller" it does not give any results!
Please might someone more competent that I help me out here? Maybe you've experienced this and found the solution? Please might you share your knowledge with me?

Dear Mr. Jobs,
My husband has been an avid supporter of Apple, having purchased a great deal from you over the past many years. Personally, I have been an iPhone user since it was introduced a few years ago.
In July 2010, I stood in line at the Apple Store in the Stanford Shopping Center to purchase the iPhone 4. In February of this year, I tried to update the iPhone and got the 'sign of death'. My iPhone turned into a piece of brick and I was not able to make any phone calls, which at that time, was very inconvenient. I remember having to coordinate a pick up at the airport early the next morning and my phone was dead. Apparently, in trying to update the phone, it corrupted the firmware and I could no longer activate that phone. It was a frustrating experience on the eve that I had to go to the airport and I spent hours trying to see if there is anything that I could do to get the phone back in working order.
The following day, I made an appointment with the genius and my husband and I took the iPhone to the Stanford Apple Store to see if there was a problem with the phone. Without hesitation, we were asked if we purchased the phone overseas. Of course, as Asians, they probably thought that we purchased it in the black market in China. After hearing our response, their next question was whether we hacked the phone. Why would they bring up these issues? Rather than immediately delving into the problem, we found it very annoying that the employees would tried to divert Apple's problem to us. After trying to diagnose the problem, they gave us a new phone and activated it using their in-store computer.
We took the phone home, thinking that the problem had been solved. When we got home, we tried to update the iPhone to no avail. The firmware was corrupted and we had to once again, bring the phone back to the Apple Store in the Oakridge Mall in San Jose. The Apple employee told my husband to go to the AT&T store, as there was potentially a SIM problem. My husband went to the AT&T Store and was told that they couldn't help him, as the SIM was fine. They did, however, replace the SIM so that there would be no issue.
In April, when there was an upgrade to the iPhone software, we once again tried to update the software and was unable to. Once again, the firmware was corrupted and we were forced to take the phone back to the Stanford store. Again, they asked us if we purchased the phone overseas. Why? They could have easily looked at the records, but no, your records are so bad that you are unable to pull it up. That afternoon, we spent four hours at the store, updating the OS on the computer as well as updating the iPhone. They assured us that they solved the problem.
This past weekend, as there was another update to the iPhone software, we were once again unable to update it and were forced to take it back to Apple. Again, we were asked, did you buy the phone overseas. It's very frustrating and annoying to repeatedly get asked that question. After a series of back and forth communications between the genius and my husband, we were told that they didn't know what the problem was. This time, we told them that we would not be leaving the store until they solved the problem. We have an Apple computer and an Apple iPhone, so 'Apple' should find the source of the problem and fix it once and for all. The genius then suggested that we migrate the data from my computer to my husband's computer and try to update the phone using my husband's computer. We didn't accept that answer.
Our genius then asked the help of a second genius and after taking his suggestion, they found that the serial number for my iPhone had been assigned to France Telecom. Once again, they asked if we bought the phone overseas. Why? Please train your employees to not accuse the customers of doing this. Many of us are honest and we take offense to this. In fact, we told them that we purchased the phone from the Stanford Store (where we were at). After looking for the record, they said that we must not have purchased it from them. The onus, then, was up to us to prove that the phone was, in fact, purchased from the Stanford Store. Fortunately, my husband saved the email and was able to show the genius that the phone was purchased from them. How could your records be so poor as not to be able to find our purchase?
After two hours at the store, we were told that we, not Apple Stanford, had to call customer care to resolve the problem. Being that this is an Apple problem, I would have expected Apple to follow up on our behalf. Why is it that the customer has to spend additional time to deal with an issue that was caused by Apple.
My husband has been dealing with customer care, who apparently has escalated the problem to other divisions within the organization. It's been two days and the problem still has not been resolved. In fact, the answer remains that they are not sure how to resolve the problem. Why can't you update your system and redo the record so that I can go on in peace. Every time I try to update the software, I'm afraid that I won't have a working phone. Do you blame me?
This has been one of the worst experiences that I have had with an Apple product and it still is not over. Collectively, my husband and I have spent over 25 hours dealing with this issue both at home and at various Apple Stores. It has been a hassle having to go from place to place, having to sync the phone multiple times, having to update the software multiple times on both the computer and iPhone and ultimately, not having it fixed once and for all. Please let me know how you expect to compensate us for this experience and how and when you expect to fix my iPhone issues.
Mr. Jobs, I know that you expect perfection from your team. This has been a tremendous waste of time for my husband and me and has been a less than stellar experience.

Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to default on Windows. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".

With iOS 7 do you now have the choice to stream purchased movies and TV shows on your iPad and/or download them. I seem to be able to do this ( on my home wifi) and I am not home sharing to a computer. Have not seen this mentioned anywhere.

Ability to stream purchased videos via wifi is a great change, also you still seem to have the choice to download video directly to iPad if you want to take it with you.
Am I understanding this correctly?

I did a little bit more research, and if I go into iTunes and choose to display TV Shows and Movies as a List, I get a nice, sortable list of movies and shows to which I can add columns. A column that you can add is called "iCloud Status."
This column shows either Purchased or Ineligible for all of the titles. And this is where things get really confusing.
Sure enough, the items that are "missing" from the iPads, iPhone, Apple TV, etc. are the Ineligible items, but that's not the confusing part. What IS confusing is which items are Ineligible.
A good example is my Deadliest Catch collection -- I own the entire season 3 and 4 of DC; season 3 is Purchased and Season 4 is Ineligible. Back to the Big Bang Theory, I have five episodes from Season 4 -- 3 are Ineligible and 2 are Purchased.
It makes absolutely no sense that episodes from the same season of the same show would be a mix of Purchased and Ineligible!

I have a Windows 7 system,
I have a trial version of CS6 extended. It has expired and I don't wish to continue with it at this time. I have a purchased Photoshop CS6 that now will not function. I tried to reload the Application Manager because it says it is corrupt.
When I click on the link provided by Adobe I get this warning from my security software.
Adobe Cleaner Tool.exe containing HEUR:Trojan.Win32.KillFiles
What do I need to do to get rid of the trial version and to get my old CS6 to function again?
Do I need to completely erase PS CS6? Will there be other issues that I should be aware of?

I have a V480R system connected to a Sun L180 (storagetek L180). I have just REMOVED the original LTO-1 tape drives and replaced them with LTO-3 drives from HP. I did a reboot -- -r and when the system rebooted, my /dev/rmt directory was empty. I have installed the 113277-36 patch for st.conf and the like, but to no avail. I can "see" the tape drives when using Netbackup V6.0 software and attempting the add the devices via the wizard. The robot attaches properly and even shows the three tape drives - but you CANNOT attach the drives. I would suspect this issue to be caused by some fault within the st.conf and the /dev/rmt directory being empty. Have you any suggestions?
Running Solaris 9 with Dec 19, 2005 recommended patch and security cluster.
L180 has version 3.9 firmware.

I have sol10 x86/64 on an IBM blade server trying to use a Fiber library with 2 LTO-3 drives.
I can see the library and 2 tape devices with cfgadm -al but nothing gets built in /dev/rmt

When I plug in my Ipod touch, (in any of my USB ports) The pc makes the sounds as if I'm plugging it in, and removing the plug every 2 seconds. When I have Device manager open, it keeps refreshing every 2 seconds. The Ipod works fine on a laptop I have, and works in another laptop thats about 12 yrs old. The pc I cant get it to work on has an AMD 2 gig cpu, and one gig memory. I even formatted my pc, and still get the same problem. BTW, upon looking at my usb ports in device manager, theres no exclamation marks or anything wrong.I'm at a complete loss. I tried uninstalling ITunes, still cant get it to work , Any ideas?

I ask again: Have you tried another cable? Perhaps cable's USB plug connections are slightly damaged. Not enough damaged to cause a problem on most USB ports, but a problem on the ports of your desktop. HT202213 I have done all this but i am not seeing my Itune library on my Apple TV

I have itunes in Germany and can see various Movie and TV channels on the Itunes that i am using on my PC.
I purchased some documentary from that itunes and they also show in the Itunes in the PC.
I also put homesharing and it shows correctly on the vertical bar on the left side of itunes.
However, I cannot access my itune library from my Apple-tv, despite of many many attempts. Oddly enough, the music shows in the music folder but not the pictures nor the movies that i bought in itunes.
I also cannot see the TV channels that i have on the german Itunes in the apple Tv. There is no icon for tv channels , even though they are in itunes under the same id and password.
I have looked everywhere but there is no guidance on this issue whatsoever.
Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

If Firewall is on in Mac OS X (in the Sharing pane of System Preferences), make sure iTunes Music Sharing is selected. This worked for me. Although I have not seen this answer posted in the support community forums, so far, it is listed as No. 2.2 under TIPS in the troubleshooting guide http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1453.

Lion Mail search: 'All' search missing some mailboxes - anyone seen this?

Yet another Mail search issue in Lion - at least I have not seen this one documented before.
Noticed in searching Mail after move from Snow Leopard to Lion: a search on 'All' mailboxes misses items that are present in one particular (very large) mailbox, although a search on that mailbox alone finds them. Because we have two Macs, one already migrated to Lion, the other still with Snow Leopard, we can see that a search in SN finds everything whereas the Lion search does not.
But there's more: a possible explanation occurred to us: the 'missing' mailbox was titled "INBOX" (some levels down - comes from an Entourage archive). Renamed that OLD INBOX, and results started coming up (with 'All' mailboxes selected) including its contents.
However: changing the search string to different senders produced inconsistent results. Use one name, that person's incoming mail in that folder showed up with search set to 'All'. Change to another sender, still no results from that mailbox, even tho' (as ever) the messages showed up when the search was restricted to that mailbox.
All very confusing!

Hi everyone,
I have never seen this happen before, were I edit a segment of video about 2 minutes long, I render it out and afterwards the clips in my edit change completely to something different. It takes footage from the same tape and replaces my clips with random clips.
Does anyone know what is happening and how to fix it.
I have just erased and installed a fresh copy of OSX and all my programs have been newly installed, hoping it would resolve this issue.
I could really use someones opnion.

Only thing I though of was deleting the clips, renaming the timeline, moving the entire project onto a new harddrive and erasing all the render files.
If this does not work I am going to toss my MAC out the window!
