Never winter nights probelms

Hello,
I've installed NWN on my arch machine using ravage's install script, after installing Nvidia drivers of course. and for some reason it doesn't work.
When I comman nwn.. I get the output : "error" that's it. and the game doesn't run...
Anyone encountered something similar?
Specs :
Geforce 2 MX
P-2 450 (yeah I know it's slow)
Sb16 PnP
kernel 2.6.3

With that robust output, (Sarcasm intended), I don't think we'll be able to help you.  You might want to go to the NWN developement pages.  I don't remember the site, but it should be easy to find.  They might have a better idea of what's going on.
Thanks,
Isamoor

  • TS4148 Hello  I have a new iphone5 and I did the new update last night and now i'm getting SIM Failure and my pnone won't work unless I turn it off and on again.  I never had this probelm before.  Please advise.

My phone is saying SIM Failure after I did update last night.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • Why the game "Never Winter" disappear??!!

I just bought it and haven't downloaded it!

Where did you buy it? The behavior of the Mac App Store (MAS) is that when you buy an app it starts downloading. But I do not find an app by this name in the MAS.

  • Problems with my Audigy Ga

    OS: Windows 2000
    Motherboard: A-bit IC7-G
    Sound Card: Audigy Gamer
Video Card: EVGA Geforce 6800 ULTRA
    RAM: 2gig
My problem is a weird one, my sound card would be working fine, the sound was great and everything was peachy. However, the moment I start up the game Never Winter Nights, my sound goes dead. I re-install the drivers and everything is fine, back to normal again. However, I did not learn my lesson the first time, I went on to repeat this process on three diffrent occasions, and through trial and error I learned some things.
One: It would only disable my headset sound, my speaker system still worked fine.
Two: My a-bit motherboard comes with an onboard soundcard.
Now if this was the only problem I wouldn't bother posting on here. But recently I have been playing around with the drivers in my audio drivers folder to see if that would fix the problem. I enter Never Winter Nights, and to my dismay the sound goes dead, no problem right? I just re-install the drivers and I get sound again, wrong, this was not the case this time, in fact, even my speaker system didn't work! I am in the dark about what to do and the funny thing is, when I re-install the drivers and windows starts up I can hear the last second of the startup song sometimes but after that, no luck. I think that maybe somehow the motherboard audio is getting in the way of my soundcard audio, or maybe I'm stupid. I don't know. Please help.
    Thank you.

Did you try disabling the onboard audio is your BIOS?

  • I need some advice...

Hi, I'm not quite sure where this topic should go exactly as it isn't about a specific topic. So plz fogive me if it's wrongly placed in your opinion.
Anyway, I've been a long time fan of Linux and I don't want to have to stop using it. I've just recently converted my whole computer to a linuxbox only system, as I was running winxp(uke) before and couldn't stand it. It would lag during simple tasks like going from one directory to another and for no apparent reason, which aided me in my conversion. Enough about winblows, I don't need to tell you guys why it sucks, we all have our reasons. But there is just one thing bothering me now... and that is gaming. I am a huge fan of gaming and have been doing so for quite some time now (years) and well... gaming on linux hasn't been too pleasant for obvious reasons.
    1) the games I play except for quake3 are written and made to run solely on a winblows workstation.
    2) Wine and Winex3 have limited, but growing support for a range of games.
    3) Lastly the main game I would like to play (Steam CS 1.6) doesn't like to run on linux due to its constant updates, which throws WInex3 out of wack. Where it could have been working the day before but due to the update it no longer runs.
I'm thinking of just making a partition for winxp(uke) so that I can game, but this isn't something I'm totally willing to do.
Basically I need some advice and/or suggestions that anyone is willing to share with me.
    Thank you in advance.
BTW: I'm not new to linux, I've been using it for almost 2 years now and have tried ALL of the distro's you can think of. (Arch is my distro of choice at the moment, along with slackware.)

Enemy Territory is an excellent game, and it is totally free.
I haven't played the free game from the US Army, but heard it is really good, and is totally free.
I bought Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which plays perfectly in Single player mode, but I have some trouble in multiplayer mode (and I'm not an expert either).
I bought Unreal Tournament 2004, which plays perfectly in both single player and online, but I simply suck at the game.
I bought Never Winter Nights because I know the company has a linux version you can download once you have a registered copy.  I havent installed it yet, though, been playing UT2004.
Doom3 is supposedly going to have a linux installer on the CD's, like UT2004 does.
Anygame that uses OpenGL graphics instead of DirectX will prolly run under WINE or WINEX, or be easy for the original company to port (if they choose to).
There are some "up and coming" linux only OpenGL games, light flightgear (a flight simulator), and a couple of 'massive online games".
Betweet RTCW, EnemyT, Never Winter Nights, UT2004, and soon Doom3 - I have enough games to play, and thats without buying winex.
Fergettabout Windows! You simply don't need it anymore.
If you are determined to run Windows, get a removeable drive bay, and just swap boot drives when you want to swtich.  Or use GRUB if you want to select from multiple OS's.
    thx

  • Msi 7900gt nwn 2

Some of you might remember me from 10 months ago........
I had some problems with artifacting and lockup in 3dmark07 which seemed to be cured with a better power supply.
Everything has been great until now. I completed playing Oblivion with no problems. A few weeks back I fired up Never Winter Nights 2 and although it runs....I get some crazy artifacting after playing for 10-15 minutes.
Now I'm starting to notice a few white pixels on my desktop that don't seem to go away.
The card is a MSI 7900GT ....I have NOT overclocked in any way....simply ruunning stock. I opened up the case and everything looks clean.....blew out any dust.....still noticing the above problems.
I've had this board for just a little less than 1 year...possibly 11 months.
    Any ideas?
    8^)
    Wade

    Ok....
Ran ATI Tool and scanned for artifacts several times.
Temps started out at 62 degrees and climbed to                                           87 degrees consistantly.
Test would run approx 7.5 minutes and then it would start beeping. The display window would go yellow at this point. Below object in display window it would say ....
Delta of 15,973,477 in 134635 pixels (117.16 AVG)  No errors for 07:33
Then I would get a dialog box that would say ...Could not compare images,if running debug version of direct x switch to retail version.
After I clicked OK on dialog box, the yellow display would change back to the object which would start rotating at this point and the bottom would say
    556 FPS, 516 AVG..
    So, what next.
Oh....I didn't remove the side panel.....I'll try that.......

  • What MMORPG are you anticipating

What games are you most looking foward to?
For me right now I am looking foward to Never Winter Nights MMORPG  and to a lesser extent Elder Scrolls
I am hoping to get to endgame on GW2 before the others come out.
Game of Thrones could be interesting but I have the bad feeling they are going to bank on the name.
ArcheAge I will have to look at because Jake Song (a brilliant Korean programmer who used to work fo NCSoft) is involved and they are developing it on the CryENGINE2

TES is a gimmie, but I'm curious to see what happens with Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn.  It isn't very often that a developer admits an initial release was subpar, scraps most of the original game, then rebuilds it from the ground up based on player feedback.
And they're tarutaru, not lalafell, dangit!

  • 9700 pro loses signal

this problem is on my friends pc which is exactly the same as my pc except his ati 9700 pro card is one of the cards that came out within 3 months after it was a brand new card last year or whenever they were released.
    ati 9700 pro and 865PE Neo2 FISR2 bios 1.9.
sometimes with games the video goes black and just seems to freeze, the pc is running, but no video signal. the only way to fix it is to reboot with the reset button on the front of the case. happens with no overclocking and running defaults. will be playing never winter nights and every hr or so this happens. tried another 9700 pro card with no problems what so ever.
have heard that the early ati 9700 pro cards have problems with this mobo, and later serial numbers don't. the card with problem was gotten within 3 months after it came out last year. the card that works was new as of the last 2 months.
does anyone have a suggestion othger then new mobo and new ati card? Will flashing the card to make it a 9800 pro fix the issue?

There was a Well known Issue with some of the 9700-Pro's, But Another thing that I read was that the early Board's Had Very Thin PCB's (As they are 1 Layer Less then all of the Rest) and these were the Rev. A1 Boards, Go look in SANDRA Load AGP-PCI-Cardbus Information Module (NOT Vidio System Info) And Scroll to AGP, and Under OEM Harware ID Look across and see if it says REV_A1, if it Does, it may be one that has this Problem. And to Help with the thin PCB Where it is Loose (Looses Contact with the AGP Slot) He Can Try to Gently Push and wiggle the Card some (To achieve Better Contact)..And if this is Not the Case, Than he has another Early Card Problem, as this is a responce from one of the ATI techs.>>>Dated Dec 24, 2003 at 01:10 PM reply
    Hi David,
This video card has a know problem with the Intel 865 chipset. The only ati cards that work have to have a serial # with -30 at the end or higher or they will not work. Because this card is discontinued our supplier cannot gaurantee a -30 card as a replacement. We can only exchange for a different item within the first 15 days so the only thing I can suggest is to see if you have a friend that may want to buy the card as there is probably nothing wrong with it and then buy another one. Any of the new 9600 or 9800 series don't have this problem. If you have any other questions let me know. Thanks alot.

  • My iPod is full of unusual bugs. Any support would be great.

Man, I pray I’m not as stupid as I look. Got my 160gb classic yesterday and have combed through the entire “feature guide” (Apple PDF download) and still have more bugs than a hornets nest. I own several other ipods as well as other Mac equipment and have become well versed in trouble shooting issues that even Apple couldn’t initially diagnose. Be that as it may, after turning on my new “classic”, I custom set everything the way I am comfortable in using the equipment. After connecting the ipod to my computer and agreeing to be an honest John with Apple’s software, I chose to manually control my library. This was the first problem. My entire library consists of my own purchased CD’s from over the years. Every CD was converted EXACTLY the same way in iTunes to MP3 format @192kb. In other words, I have NO downloaded music from the iTunes store - or any other such method. Meanwhile, I get a message that 100’s of songs cannot be copied to my iPod because they are in a format that my new iPod doesn’t understand. The reason I’m perplexed is, is that my entire library of approx. 5,000 songs were taken from my CD collection and converted in the exact same fashion. So, my question is: how can 3 or 4 arbitrary songs across dozens of CD’s not be recognized?
Second problem, every time I shut down the power to the iPod everyone of my custom settings revert back to the factory settings – including asking me which language I prefer to use when I power it up again. Also, in my “main menu” settings, even if I un-check a feature so it shouldn’t be visible in my “main menu”, surprise – it’s there. There are actually other bugs but one that bothers me the most is, if you watch a movie in wide format, I may have two black bars (top and bottom) or two white bars that will change intermittently throughout the movie.
Sorry for the long post. I haven’t posted in ages. I simply haven’t had any problems with any other Apple products. Has anyone else experienced these problems? Are they problems or, as I asked in the beginning my post – am I really that stupid that I can’t figure these things out on my own?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
On a personal note, I prefer the previous interface. To me simplicity is more attractive and elegant.
I hope someone can help me before I pack this baby up to back.

Thanks for all of the feedback.
My issues extended beyond music and into the video section that could not be controlled under any command. I have to say I am an original 5gb first generation iPod buyer and have purchased a new one each time a new one was introduced. This is strictly my opinion, and I’m certain I’m in the minority – but I downright disliked the new interface. In essence, Apple enlarged the iPod screen with the first generation video units only to cut the screen in half making everything on the screen very crowded unless it's 12 inches from your eyes. I’m a hard core, exclusive Apple user but the new classic iPod is their first product I'm genuinely disappointed in.
Just a note for everyone who would have loved to buy the touch iPod but couldn’t live with the reduced capacity. That iPod will be the sweetest ticket in town since the introduction of Apple’s first iPod as the capacity grows. I own a 4gb Nano that I hardwired with a line level connection in my car. In all of time I’ve owned it, I never once removed it from my car even though the climate in my area can drop to zero (inside the car) on a winter night or reach blistering temps of 130 degrees or more when parked in direct sunlight with the windows (pardon the term) closed during the summer months. Still, I haven’t had so much as a single glitch from this baby. The reason is superior durability! With solid state or “flash” architecture you need not worry about expansion and contraction during climate changes like you do with a mechanical hard drive. I have a few friends who killed their hard drive based iPods within a few short months by leaving them in their cars during climate changes. I’m sure it will be a while yet before we see some serious flash storage capacity – affordable at least. I don’t remember where I read or heard about the cost comparison between flash and mechanical drives. It may have actually been on Apple’s website or during S. Jobs keynote. If I remember correctly, flash is around 1,800% more than traditional drives.
I guess I’ll save my nickels for now. But, for everyone else with a classic, dig it, love it , enjoy it for many years!! With all of that capacity, everyone should have at least 1 Grateful Dead CD on their iPod. Sorry...just a bit of a Dead Head, here.
Thanks again for everyone’s input. Good luck!

  • BT Vision, You View...... in fact BT in general

I cancelled my BT Vision service on 10th October to actually finish on 19th December ie at 12 months.
The reason I cancelled was because my You View box has been an awful experience, its been totally unreliable, I object to acting as a test bed for debugging problems and finally one day it erases over 250 hours of programmes some of which I had been keeping for the winter nights.
I followed up by telephoning BT on 13th October just to make sure it was cancelled (based on previous experience with BT) and was told it was cancelled. At the same time I renewed my BT package to now include unlimited broadband and got an email listing telephone line, telephone anytime calls and broadband unlimited as my new package to start 19th December.
All seemed fine until I got a bill in mid December which included BT Vision up to mid January 2014. It also included anytime calls twice (yes twice) as well to rub salt into the wounds.
I rang BT and they told me I hadn't cancelled my BT Vision and that I could cancel from that day but the cancellation would require 30 days notice. Strange says I, you sent me an email listing my new package starting 19th December which doesn't list BT Vision.
Since then I have made eight more phone calls, I have noted down each and every one I have spoken to, to get this sorted. I have spent nearly an hour each time talking to various people. I would love to list some of them here to embarrass them.
In addition I have had demands to return the You View box. I have questioned this only to be told that I should ignore this request as I had the subscription for the minimum of 12 months. I have asked them to write to me or email me telling me that I can keep the box and until today nobody has been in a position to email this to me, "I've put a note on the file" is the answer I get to which I reply, will that be as reliable as the note on the file to cancel my BT Vision in the very first place?
Today I get a letter and a plastic bag telling me to return the box.
I phone and finally speak to a decent person in BT who emails me to tell me that I can keep the box. Wonderful!
In addition I have now sent two detailed letters of complaint to BT, both by recorded delivery and both to the MD for the retail division. Both have been delivered, one mid Nov complaining about the YOU View box problems I have had and one mid Dec complaining about this latest debacle and also including a copy of the earlier complaint.
To date NO REPLY!  Great communications from a supposed communications company.
So BT let me explain to you what is going to happen, when this latest package is over I'm going to kiss you goodbye and go to a communication company who can communicate reliably with their customers. Assuming there is one of course.
Oh yes, by the way, I am told today that I have a credit coming on my next bill £6.90 for the BT Vision overcharge and £5.15 for the duplicated anytime calls. Thats a total of £12.05 credit for what must be eight hours spent on phone calls to BT and for writing two letters of complaint.
It saddens me to say that I used to support BT but it really has no idea how to look after its customers.

    Hi
Well to update, today I have had a call from a Neil who has apologised for the bad service.
It seems that the first of my letters has been received but no action was taken, the second has not appeared as yet even though I have a tracking confirmation that it was delivered. Apparently BTs service standards are to reply to complaints in 6 weeks, yes 6 weeks.
So yes all appears sorted, credits are on the way.
    However.
My experiences really are not an exception are they?
We ring BT to be told that they are "recording calls for training".......my word has anyone actually listened to the calls I have made and wondered why I as a customer stay and put up with this service?
We are asked to fill in surveys and my replies are damning, perhaps I am the exception!
I took up broadband about 7 years ago. It was a nightmare to start with simply becuase I had a router with a fault. Call after call to BTs technical help line, all of whom want to access your computer "to check the settings". You tell them that you have two computers and the dropping out occurs with both therefore altering the settings to one is rather pointless but no, they have to tweak this setting and ask you to see how it goes. I even get comments like "do you have a fluorescent light in your room" "do you have a fax machine" because at the time according to BTs technical help either would be the likely cause of me losing my broadband. And so it went on for months, finally one day I speak to a woman who looks at the history of my calls and says that she'll send me a replacement router. Problem solved!
Some years back I had horrendous problems with lost emails. Check me out for my other posts. Needless to say that finally after weeks of pestering yes they admitted that somehow a month of emails had disappeared from their webmail. As I work form home you can imagine the problems that caused me.
I have had numerous problems over the years, slow connections in particular however ring BT technical and its always me by default. You go through the most mindnumbing conversations with people who quite honestly in most cases I wouldn't let them walk my dog. Recently I spoke to one and happened to mention that I had a NAS plugged into my router. He in no uncertain terms told me that I should never plug anything else into my router........he hadn't a clue what a NAS was......this is BT technical help.
Then finally the BT You View, Vision debacle. I should never have done it. You see a box made by Humax and you assume it is going to work. The biggest issues with You View in my opinion are that its fairly clear its been launched and the customers are debugging it. Second issue is USB, theres two USB sockets which do nothing becuase they are not implemented. So after some many weeks possibly months of using the box I decide to back up some important recordings only to find I can't. Strange isn't it, we all know how hard drives can fail, we are told constantly to back up important data, theres two USB sockets that could allow this but don't. By then its too late to cancel the subscription even though I ask BT. No I'm told if I cancel early theres a penalty charge, why when the box has a USB socket in full view which on close inspection doesn't do anything.....its rather like having a towing hitch on a car only to find the day  you want to use it its made of plastic for decoration only. But no the earliest I can cancel with no charge is 19th Dec 2013. There then follows issue afte issue with the box, BT even send an engineer to check it and perform a factory reset but retaining my recordings. the final straw is one day in early October I turn it on only to find its telling me it needs a factory reset, to this day I don't understand why but some others on the You View forum have said that this is a bug! I perform the reset being paranoid to ensure that I pick the option which enables a factory reset and retains my recordings and you can guess over 250 hours of recordings deleted. Of course had the USB worked, most would have been backed up!
So I cancel the box and somehow BT manage to lose this instruction even though three days later I ring to check this is being actioned and I'm told it is. The rest is as per my first posting.
I have spoken to so many people most of whom are not fit for purpose. They can't action anything, they can't send emails confirming anything, yet they ask in my case did I get an email confirming the cancellation? For a firm dealing with communications they need to look up the meaning of the word in the OED.
Saying all this, every so often you come across someone who will help, Neil today, Aaron is another, both the BT engineers who have visited have been superb. Dare I say, when I moan to BT engineers about the telephone support they too agree its appalling.
You ring to be told "we are very busy". Well BT perhaps you wouldn't be so busy if you dealt effectively with customer issues the first time they rang and every time a customer ordered or cancelled something you could actually send an email confirming this. It all seems so random, sometime you do, sometimes you don't.
Sad isn't it? A great British institution which everyone I speak to seems to hate dealing with.
But what do you do? Ok this is sorted, but I know deep down only until the next time. Is anyone out there in BT land reading this I wonder? Will anything actually change or improve.....no it will not of that I am 100% sure.
    John

  • Is anyone else having a RAM issue? Anyone know if i can re-install mountain lion?

After istalling Mountain Lion, i noticed things take a bit longer to carry out for example i noticed a lot more lag (not a whole lot) but I never had this probelm with Lion when powering up and having the toolbar and dock show up, which takes around a minute or two to appear. I also have 2 doc's open, my mail, and 1 safari window and 3 tabs, and with this, the amount of inactive memory keeps on growing. When i first updated, i opened safari 6 (just one page with no tabs) and noticed how my inactive memory jumped from a few mb to around 4gb and as long as i keep using any application, i keep having to use FreeMemory to free things up. At this point it is getting frustrating and a resart didn't help. My amount of inacitve memory just stays around 1gb which never happened before with Lion, which would keep freed memory free and the longer i carry out normal task, the less memory i have available to the point where i get down to just a few mb if i have tabs that have heavy flash sites on them. By the way i have a fall 2011 macbook pro, 2.2ghz i7 with 8gb of ram

ML manages memory very differently to earlier OS versions.  I thought it was sluggish at first but today it seems faster than Lion.  While most memory on my 3GB iMac is used the key statistic is pageouts of which I have had only 1.8 MB after a full days work (mail, web rowsing, gimp, merlin project management software, and pages all being used).  If you have a large page out figure it might be worth investing in more ram, otherwise don't worry about it.  A lot of free memory looks great, but if it isn't being used it might as well be still on the shelf at the store where you bought it.  Emptying out the inactive memory would only be counter productive as that information would have to be reloaded from your HD if you restart the application it belongs to.

  • 1.1.3 update installed, but cant customize home screen

I updated an iPod touch, and I confirmed in Settings > General > About, that it is running Version 1.1.3.
However, holding my finger down on a home-screen icon for an extended period of time does not put it into customize mode the way it does on my iPhone.
I also noticed that in Safari, when I hit the + plus sign, it does not give me the option to Add to HomeScreen.
But I am 100% sure the update installed and is running. I even have an option in settings >
General > Reset, to "Reset Home Screen Layout"
Now this update was installed from my Mac. But the iPod touch belongs to a friend and I do not want to register to my itunes, etc. I do have a back-up of their iPod Touch on in my iTunes, so I assume that I can do a restore and she wont loose all her songs and videos. After that I can try to apply the update again. Should this work? Are there any steps I should be aware of. I think the weird thing I am doing is trying to update the software from a computer (my macbook) that is not the same computer the iTouch usually syncs with. But I have done this with other peoples iPhones before and never had a probelm.
any advice would be much appreciated.

In addition to installing the firmware version 1.1.3 you must purchase a licence to unlock the software upgrade code.
See [Installing and verifying the iPod touch January Software Upgrade|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307243] for more info.

  • CFFEED & Namespace Declaration

I would appreciate some help with generating rss feed for Google Merchant.  I am trying to use cffeed to generate the xml file which I am good with.  The issue is formatting it to google's specifications and their namespace declaration (<g:price></g:rpice>)  how to set a xml structure to include g:  in front of the names?
Here is a sample of googe xml structure:

I had a google around, and as far as I can tell it cannot be done with <cffeed> (*).  Just use <cfxml> instead, I reckon.

  • Comparing folder contents

    Hi all
This is a it embarrassing to be honest, but I find myself in a bit of a filing based mess.
The background - skip if you don't want to hear bleating about how poor my filing is
In a fit of idiocy I have made many duplicate folders (including multiple duplicates of content such as my 15,000 image photo library) to ensure safety of the files therein. I've done this a lot of the last three years, and find myself now in a position where I haven't got a clue what is where, and what is up-to-date.
I have 600G odd drive space.
I have 1 50G iMovie project, a large iPhoto library and quite a bit of music.
I have 30G free - mainly because of my completely slap-dash method of 'backing up' - which I realise I'm not actually doing - and also because I have a lot of files copied here from other desktops, laptops and iPods.
    The question
Obviously I have a task on my hands to sort this lot out. What would make my life a lot easier would be an application that compares the contents of two folders, and shows me where they differ - this way I am hoping to be able to completely erase great swathes of files without having to comb through them making sure I don't loose an iSight screen grab of my son smashing his Buzz into the screen or some-such. Anyone know of anything that would make my life easier here?
I used to be fairly ordered about where I put files, and how my folders are structured, honest.
Thanks for any help / advice / smacks on the back of the hand...

Well you have a nice project to pass the Winter nights!
Do a search on http://www.macupdate.com using 'duplicate' as the search term. This will provide you with quite a few apps which claim to search for and remove duplicate files. Read and make your choices there.
However, do not trash any file without reviewing it yourself. There are some things a computer cannot do, and recognising emotionally valuable items is one of them.
    Have fun.
    Regards
    TD
