New 8120 locks up plus user software issue

I bought the 8120 about four weeks ago. ( Ver 4.5)
  I have a 2gig sd card and usually have 15-19meg free memory. Battery has always been in the 90% plus range when it fails.
It has locked up about 10 times so far. Twice yesterday within one hour where I have to remove the battery and reboot for it to work again.
Very unpredictable 3-4 times it involved answering a call or at the end of a call. One time I took it out of the case and it was off, and would not power on until I removed and reinstalled the battery,
Really worries me as I fear it won't work in an emergency situation and I can't wait two minutes for it to reboot.
My wife got one at the same time and her 8120 has locked up twice, but she does not use hers as much as me.
Two other relatives have Pearls that also lock up but not as often as mine.
I use WiFi with Cincinnati Bell, mostly email, but sometimes check the weather maps with the browser.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hello Pvee and welcome to the forums!
It sounds like an issue with the OS on the device, even if you are up to date there could still be something corrupt in the software I would suggest reloading the software using the link below.

  • Unable to view pdf - initially thought to be user / OS issue for new user to MAC.

    Unable to view pdf created in Live Cycle Designer ES2.  I initially thought this was a user / OS issue when I created a document for someone who is new to a MAC laptop.  She could not view the document through email.  Unfortunately, I began seeing the same error in my own document folders when searching for another document showing as icons instead of a list.  I can open the file without a problem although I see the error she sees only while viewing the icons in my folder.  I am using a Windows 7 PC. Now, I also know that if the document is downloaded, it can be viewed. 
    Other notes: 
    If trying to access the form via the internet, the same error is seen through Chrome, Firefox, and Mozilla but NOT through IE
    Everyone seems to have the latest or a very recent READER
    The form is compatible with Reader versions 7 and up
    Again, downloading from the internet to the computer appears to allow the file to open properly
    Document cannot be viewed on the Galaxy Tab 2 via Chrome or the pre-installed Internet Browser, nor can it be viewed through the Reader after download to tablet. I did not try on an Apple iPad.
    All parties involved are up-to-date with virus protection.

    Sorry, this is a user to user forum and we're just customers who help out when we can, so things don't always happen right away.
    Reader, Regardless of OS or device, is as the name implies, only a Reader.  There are different mail settings between Mac Mail Outlook and Thunderbird as well as Andsroid's mail app, whose name escpoaes me.
    Have you checked in the Live Cycle Forum? There are people there with FAR more experience using LC developed forms. It's part of my Creative Suite, but I've never even opened it myself.

    We have an interesting issue. An Access Enforcer Change Request was initiated with the incorrect userID (the userID did not yet exist in the system) and that Change Request flowed through and made it to the end of the path. At the end of the path, it created a new userID (since the incorrect one was entered). However, we have the following AE Config:
    Auto Provisioning - Status: Auto Provsioning Type: "Auto Provision At End of Each Path"
    Auto Provisioning - Change Request: Create if user does not exist: "NO"
    Any ideas as to why the new userID was provisioned even though we have it set to "NO"?
    We are on AE v5.1, SP4.

    Similar kind of issue.,
    The Change User BAPI works differently than we normally think.
    It wipes off everything and reassign the modification.
    This I figured it in one of my implementation. You try add some roles to the user it wipes off all the roles and reassign the roles along with the new requested one's.
    The client is also in SP4 still they have issue.
    Will that not be good, AE checks for the ID before it actually submits the request.

  • My very new MBP 13" freezes. Not a software issue.

    My brand new MBP (Lion) has a great time for a while, but then freezes with three alarms sounding.    (see pic - I also have video if people want to see.)
    The Apple Care people "have not heard of such a thing", have been very helpful, but believing it to be a software compatibility problem, have given me some assorted solutions to try.  They mean well. 
    I run Adobe CS5.5, Filemaker Pro 11, Microsoft Office 2011 and Firefox. 
    I have deleted StartUp items, (same result), in fact, almost every day I have had the computer home, this has happened.
    I have backed up with Time Machine and erased the entire HD, downloaded and clean installed Lion.   Three and a bit Gig later, the same thing has happened, with no software installed except the Lion system software.  
    This is clearly NOT a software issue and I need a solution very soon.  My company purchased this interstate.

    That's the strange thing.   Trying to run the Apple Hardware Test after a reboot with 'D' pressed and it ignores the request. 
    Solution found.    It was bad RAM chips.
    Chadstone Apple Store in Melbourne replaced the chips and turned it around for me in under 20 minutes.
    Very impressed.   Running like a trooper now.   Thanks Apple.  Confidence restored.

I have already had to have a technician to look at it and really couldn't figure out what the deal was.  I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

    I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software.
    The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems  with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.

    Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.helpviewer.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac, try the Help menu.
    If you need help finding that file, hold down the Finder icon in the Dock then click: New Finder Window. From the menu bar top of your screen click: Go > Go to Folder. Type this in exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist    That will take you right to that file.
    (.plist) files stores information about a particular app or in this case, the Help viewer. Often times deleting the .plist file resolves the issue.
    It's fine to "unload"... we understand that you expect your iMac to be stable but there are times when things go awry. That's why we have these forums so that you can you get help.

  • Nokia 5530 XM, phone software issues/headaches

    Hello,
    I got my 5530 XM around 2 months ago. It was my first Nokia (been a Sony Eric fan for over 5 years). Anyway i liked its touch interface and all.
    But then i noticed the phone would restart (reddish/grayish horizontal lines leading to a white screen and then reboot) on average once/twice a day randomly.
    I used the nokia update software to get the latest firmware, with that applied, the restarts frequency was decreased. But around 3 weeks ago, i noticed th phone would become unresponsive at times. Like i'd click on a menu item and i'd hear the small vibration of the force feedback, but nothing would launch, in such situations the phone won't respond to any touches, other than lock/unlock slide key and the turn on/off switch.
    The only way to get out of that is to restart the phone. But this unresponsiveness is really annoying. I also did a re-install of the firmware from the nokia-software-updater 2 days ago, but the phone still gets stuck in unresponsive state. Sometimes you get unresponsiveness while you're receving a call. You can click all you want to accept the call but nothing would happen. sometimes i have to remove the phone cover and take out the battery and then put it back in and start the phone again to make things go back to normal.
    Other than that, at times i'm unable to launch the camera. Its such an embarassment to be a nokia users, 2,3 times at party with friends i had to take some pictures with my NEW NOKIA 5530 and i noticed the camera wouldn't launch (From applications > Camera), there is the small circle on top of the camera icon (that appears for minimized applications), but clicking the icon does nothing.
    Even restarting the phone doesnt help.
    My phone is still within its 10/12 month warranty period. but i'm truly disappointed in nokia's software. Can someone please help me fix this problem? i've never faced any software issues with my other brand fones and i really love the touch feature of this phone and the interface but the UnTested Operaing System from Nokia is really becoming a headache for me. 
    Being a software engineer myself, it makes me wonder if there is any quality assurance going on in software departments at nokia. I remember watching a Nokia video on youtube showing how nice and long their hardware quality assurance tests were > which lead me to buying nokia 5530 as my next phone, but this software, it makes me dislike the phone more every passing day

  • Live view hardware or software issues have I been cheated

    Hi I have recently bough a Live View unit. I am deaf  and I got this gadget because I needed something that would help med notice new text message. My local reseller recommended this device. I had a normal sonyericsson bluetooth watch in mind but the reseller told med that these watches was not surly supported to my phone (Xperia X10 mini pro). The Live View unit would have the vibration function that I needed. I know that the phone in it self has a similar function but unless you strap the phone on you self these vibration are easy to miss.
    I have used the live view unit about 2 weeks now. It constantly disconnect. Even if I keep the phone in my pocket and the live view unit strapped to my wrist it looses connection and is not reminding me about incoming text messages. I have used bluetooth headsets in past time. And I remember that if I got to fare away from the phone it would disconnect. But than as I got close it would reconnect.
    In the bluetooth settings it says that the live view unit is paired but not connected?. Once the live view unit locked it self .. in start mode the sonyericsson logo was showed on the display until the battery was drained, not responding to any buttons. The facebook functions has never worked. I have followed other users advise to check all the boxes on activities.
    My question should I go back to my reseller and ask him to replace it with another one ? Have I misunderstood the function of the live view unit ? It there possible a software issue ? What can I do to fix it ?

    It should work as you describe/it's advertised. It is a shame, but it's a product not ready for release. Personally, I told my retailer it doesn't work as advertised so returned it and got a refund.

  • Iphone 4; Software Issues RE: Home Button, Voice Control & Calls

    Two days ago my iPhone 4, with the latest operating system, has been having a series of problems;
    - The home button has stopped working
    - Voice control activates independently
    - Voice and Facetime calls have been connected by itsself, even though it is just sitting in lock mode on my desk, not connected to my computer or even WiFi.
    I have restored the phone to its factory settings, this did not fix the issues.
    Does anyone know of to fix this or if this is a software issue that can be handled by the apple store.
    I have had the phone for under a year.

  • Diamond Plus Users - Who doesn't have low microphone volume?

    I apologize if I might be beating this topic to death.  But, I don't know if I should RMA my board or not and would like some feedback from other users.  I've been told the problem of low microphone volume is a software issue... but I'm quite certain I've installed my drivers correctly.  If this is a problem with the board in need of a new driver fix, I can accept that.  However, if the problem of the low microphone is isolated to a number of defective boards, that is a different story.
    That being said, if any users of the MSI K8N Diamond Plus motherboard have NORMAL microphone volume (using the onboard SoundBlaster chip), please respond here with the operating system used, the Soundblaster driver version (and where it was downloaded), and microphone model & type.  Thanks

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Scan software doesn't have 8.5x11 letter size option

    Just bought a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
    The included HP Scan software will only let me choose A4 or A5 paper sizes (as well as 6x4, 7x5, 8x6, 10x8).  No 8.5x11 option, which is what I want to use most often.  (this is from the dropdown options after clicking the "Scan..." button)
    Is there something I'm missing?  I'm generally pretty good at figuring this stuff out, but I haven't even seen this issue mentioned on forums, so I'm confused.
    Also, when using the Scan To Computer function directly from the printer, I get the same result - it will scan my 8.5x11 document and output an A4 size file.
    I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I have installed all software and firmware updates I could find.  I have my printer's region set to Canada, and bought the machine from a Staples in Canada.  Wondering why I can't use any North American size formats?  

    @Simple1234 - I have reinstalled the software from HP's website, and no change. (it's actually the same version that came on the installation CD - 12.23).
    @Sethaniel - I have definitely tried every combination of settings in those drop down lists, so that's not it. 
    Ruling out OS issues, my girlfriend is running 10.8, and the HP software is doing the same thing on her computer.
    Using the System Preferences scanning method, I can choose paper sizes if set to scan from document feeder.  If I change to flatbed, I have the option to manually type in the dimensions I want, but then I'm forced to manually drag the crop area to which 8.5x11 portion of the flatbed it will scan.  Again, there's no way to just have the flatbed scan a letter size document automatically when placing the page at the top corner of the flatbed, where it shows you to place the page for letter size. 
    This seems like the most basic function of a scanner!  I'm really perplexed by this.  I would imagine most people in north america would just want to place an 8.5x11 sheet of paper on the flatbed and have an easy way to scan the correct size with no added fuss.
    Printing works fine, and I can choose letter size, and many adjustable settings, so I think this is just a problem with HP's scanning software.  I have tried all the usual basic steps, like restarting my computer & the printer, reinstalling software, running software update, looking through all the settings in the HP Scan software, any global settings I could change in System Preferences, tried using a different computer and OS X version, googling the issue, and posting on this forum.
    Any other ideas?

  • Keyboard does not connect - have narrowed to a software issue as it works in safe mode, but do not know how to resolve the software issue

    I was in the process of connecting a Razer Blackwidow USB keyboard to my iMAC and something went wrong.
    The new keyboard doe not respond and now my bluetooth keyboard does not work either. No connectivity whatsoever.
    I've tried a number of things, including resetting the PRAM / NVRAM and SMC (interesting that the computer responds to the keyboard commands that are required to reset the PRAM). I also checked all the universal access setting to make sure nothing was interfering with normal keyboard operation.
    btw, blutooth seems to think the keyboard is connected I get a gree light. I can even go through the process of unpairing and pairing and it allows me to type in the numberical code to pair the keyboard, but after that, it still does not work.
    When I start the machine in safe mode, the keyboard works fine. So I've narrowed this down to a software problem. I tried to go to another user account to see if it's just associated with the current user, but since I have no keyboard connection at all, I can't type in a password, so that's no good.
    I've eliminated a number of applications that I have recently installed (including the Razer set up app) that might interfere with keyboard operation, but no luck.
    Any suggestions on how to go about tracking down this software issue?

    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
    These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
    Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
    Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
    Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

    The following error message appears at the end of the synchronization process in BlackBerry® Desktop Manager:
    Cannot find table in system file
    CauseA BlackBerry Desktop Software upgrade failed to remove the Connectors folder from C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Connectors. As a result, older Microsoft Outlook applications were registered with BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    Resolution
    To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:
    Verify that the Connectors folder is present in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Connectors\MS Outlook Connector
    If the Connectors folder is present, complete the tasks listed below.
    Task 1 - Remove the existing Microsoft Outlook connector ilxolkCompanion.fil
    Open a command prompt.
    Navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Connectors\MS Outlook Connector

    Hi,
    I am getting this error while trying to activate a session in OSB (clustered env with 3 nodes). I have a OSB project which listens to a JMS queue. I was able to create the project fine and was able to activate the session, no issues. But when I tried to update the queue name or delete the project itself, this error gets thrown:
    [ConfigFwk:390105]Unable to create WLS change list due to a short term automatic lock obtained by user null. The user has no pending changes and the lock will expire in 600 seconds. Please try again after the lock has expired.
    Retrying after those seconds takes me back to the same error but the time get's reset to 600 sec.
    I can change the code in that project and activate the session without any issues but if I change any configuration for proxy/business services or delete the project itself, i get this error. the only way to get around this issue is to clone the project and make changes to the cloned project. But, that is not the solution i am looking for as I don't want to keep a old version of the project and don't want to keep creating new queues everytime (since no two proxies can point to the same queue).
    Oh, and this happens only with the projects which deal with JMS queues.

    Hi,
    I am getting this error while trying to activate a session in OSB (clustered env with 3 nodes). I have a OSB project which listens to a JMS queue. I was able to create the project fine and was able to activate the session, no issues. But when I tried to update the queue name or delete the project itself, this error gets thrown:
    [ConfigFwk:390105]Unable to create WLS change list due to a short term automatic lock obtained by user null. The user has no pending changes and the lock will expire in 600 seconds. Please try again after the lock has expired.
    Retrying after those seconds takes me back to the same error but the time get's reset to 600 sec.
    I can change the code in that project and activate the session without any issues but if I change any configuration for proxy/business services or delete the project itself, i get this error. the only way to get around this issue is to clone the project and make changes to the cloned project. But, that is not the solution i am looking for as I don't want to keep a old version of the project and don't want to keep creating new queues everytime (since no two proxies can point to the same queue).
    Oh, and this happens only with the projects which deal with JMS queues.

  • CUIC Scheduler user access issue

    This one has me stumped.  
    We recently finished an upgrade for a client that included a transition to a new virtual environment.  I built out two  9.1.1 clusters, and did a disaster recovery restore from the old prod systems into the new prod system.  After much foul language we got everything working, except an issue with runnihg scheduled reports.
     If a superuser makes an edit to the report, like changing the scheluded run time, a normal level user can no longer make a change to the report.  The superuser has to then delete the report, and the user recreate it.  Even with the new reports, if the superuser makes a change, it locks out the user.
    This is CUIC 9.1.1, and I am not seeing anything strange in the web interface.  My CUIC fu is weak here, so any help would be greatly appreciated

    I see this behavior in CUIC 8.5 as well. The workaround is for the superuser to do a "Run As" (from Security -> User List) as the user who made the schedule, then edit the schedule from there. The schedule will then stay owned by that user instead of the superuser.

  • How to unlock a phone that is locked to a user account after reset?

    I’m writing with an inquiry about the new OS7 upgrades and user account new security.
    We began to receive iPhones 4, 4s and 5 back from our former employees and no longer able to sign back into the phones after a reset. 
    I believe that in order to use any iPhone you needed an existing or new account.
    With the older software we were able to reset a phone through iTunes to default then reassign it to another employee. 
    Since the changes to OS7 after a reset it won’t let us sign in with a any other account expect for the old one that was authorized for a former employee.
    I understand the security concern but in business field this solution does not work since these good phones became no longer usable.
    Please provide a solution on how to bypass the startup screen by creating a new user profile when a phone is reset to factory and connected to wifi or iTunes.
    I believe that the sign in to iTunes should not be mandatory, only for those who like to keep their phone secured as an extra alternative to the password.
    Secondly, older types of iPhones had  defective power button I’m still seeking  answer as to why there is no recall for this repair?

    That's called activation lock. You can not bypass it. IF you can provide Apple with proof of ownership for the phones, they may be able to help you.
    Going forward, the best approach is strong policies regarding the return of company owned equipment in working order. Activation locked does not constitute "in working order".
    As to your second question, no one here can address that. This is a user forum. Apple does not participate here.
