New battery that is dying quickly

I bought a Macbook Pro in August 2009. This laptop was advertised as having 7 hour battery life. However my battery only lasts about 2.5 hours. I am not running multiple programs or keeping the screen brightness on full. I usually let my computer sleep but rarely turn it off. I can't imagine why the battery is dying after 4 months of usage... any suggestions?

Lets find out if it really is dying, Beardylady.
If you Head to the Apple menu, select "About this Mac" and then click on "More Info" a utility called "System Profiler" will open up.
Look at the"Hardware" tab and select "Power". See what it says the " Full charge capacity " is, how many "cycles" it has completed, and what it says about its "Condition".
If it is "dying", and less than twelve months old, then Apple will provide a replacement under warranty, but let's see if it really is first. There are other reasons why charge life may be reduced like this.

  • Suggestions for New Battery for 13-inch MacBook

I have been having trouble with my battery for a long time now. Often the computer fails to recognize the battery at all and will turn off when unplugged from the adapter (which is also acting screwy, but that's a different story).
I having been using the original battery that came with the machine, which I bought in September 2006.
Despite the trouble I am having with the computer failing to recognize the battery, I concede that its probably time for a new one.
    So my question is twofold:
    1. What battery manufacturer/maker do you recommended? / What battery has worked well for you?
    2. Once I get the new battery, that should fix the problem I'm having with battery recognition, right?
Please find my current power settings/information below. Also, my computer is randomly recognizing my battery after weeks of not, the settings reflect this change.
    Thanks!

Should if that is the problem. Have you tried this?
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
How often did calibrate your computer's battery?
You could also take it into an Apple store and ask them to check it.

  • Is it possible to use a new battery for a MBP 15" in a MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008) ?

i have an old  MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008) and my battery is as close to dead as it can be. I was wondering if I could replace it for a new battery that works for the latest models.

I was looking at the ones you can get online http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA348LL/A   Do you know if one like this would work?
No, that's a 60 watt. You need an 85 watt.

  • PowerBook enters sleep mode with charger on and with new battery in Full

    Hi all,
My powerbook enters in Sleep mode when it has a lot of energy. I have the powerbook with the charge on and battery in full charge and it still goes to sleep mode. It happens even when I'am working a lot with the computer. It appears that when a left my computer go to sleep over night the next day e goes a lot to sleep even when I'am working with the computer. I have tried to use just the charger, and just de battery but the error continues. I havemy power setting and it is e best performance (and it never goes to sleep in this mode).
I can only avoid this if I never put the computer to sleep, because I i put it i will start putting it self to sleep.
I have bought a new battery (7 months) and a new charger (2 month) recently, could be this the case?
What is happening to my computer?
It is my computer to ald and tired and needs to sleep a lot :/ ?
    Thanks for any help!

The date only goes to 1970-01-01 if e click in power on without the battery and the AC adapter.
If I remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter e wait many minutes and put back on the battery and the AC adapter a switch the power back on the date staid the same.
I have notice one other think, some times the new battery that a bought in apple store does not charge (a have to remove the AC adapter a plug back in for it to charge), the AC adapter is correctly plug-in but it does not charge. I am begging to suspect that it is something wrong the the hardware (or the battery or the charger) sell by apple store.
Is the any place for replace bad hardware still in warranty in apple store?
What is the place to contact apple suport for this matters?
    Thanks!

  • Brand new battery issue....installed myself, still depleting power quickly

    Good morning everyone.
I have one of the original Ipod Classic 160's. Its been a wonderful item thus far. The battery started losing power a little bit quicker than normal. I probably would only get about 10 hours out of it. Not too bad, but that's on all low settings.
I figured I'd go ahead and take a crack at opening it myself and put in a new battery (side note: you have to be really gifted and have the right tools to not damage the body of the ipod slightly).
The new battery is in. It immediately read only half power, so I plugged it into my home player to charge it. It charged really really quickly. I started playing it, and it started losing a little power quickly as well. I charged it again over night, and on my 40 minute trip to work this morning, it lost a little bit of power.
Obviously, one of my options is that I got a bad battery, BUT...a bad battery is usually a more dynamic problem then just the little discharge its doing. Plus, its discharging almost exactly like my old battery did. So, although Its still a possibility its a bad battery, I've got a theory that maybe there is a hardware or software issue????
That's my main question: Are there hardware and/or software issues that could cause a battery to drain, no matter how good the battery is?
Any other thoughts are welcome too.

I apologize for bumping my own question here, but I figured it would be best to share my experience for others to read.
I am sending this as a buyer beware. If you have the Classic 160, your battery should be 850 mah at minimum. This place I bought replacements from advertised a 550 mah as for the Ipod classic 80/160...not true.
Just an FYI. I know this is a rare situation, but just in case there is that one person that runs in to this. My initial battery from Apple was definitely dying, and it just happened to be coincidence that the new batteries didn't have enough "juice" to run it properly, so I continued to think it was me. 3 batteries later, its sorted.

  • Has anyone had their iphone 4 die on them? Mine is just 2 yrs old and won't switch on, tried all the remedies, reboot, tried to connect and reboot via itunes, new battery--nothing works

Hias anyone had their iphone 4 completely die on them? Mine won't switch on, I have tried using the power key with the home key, tried connecting it via usb cable to itunes, tried new battery- nothing has worked. The phone is just 2 yrs old this month, and I haven't dropped it or anything. I have never had a phone break on me before in almost 20 yrs of having mobile phones- I've had to resort to using a 7 yr old Nokia, which I used to love but it's not the same as my iphone!!

If you have attempted the reset, which is holding the home button and sleep/wake button, was it still connected to the computer? Have you tried to do that when not connected. You stated it never came on, how long did you hold the buttons together? If you cannot get it to connect to iTunes then you would not be able to restore the device. You can see if you can put the device into Recovery Mode by following the instructions in this support document. If that does not work, then you are correct, make an appointment at the Apple Store. If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • I cannot get more than 12 to 14 hours out of a full charge, and with a new battery.  Is the phone dying?

I cannot get more than 12 to 14 hours out of a full charge, and with a new battery.  The battery has been charged at least a dozen times, so I know it's at full charge.  Is the phone dying?

Do a Li-ion battery rebuild. Do a full 6-8 hour charge with device in sleep mode, next run it down to about 45-50 % and then a 4-5 hour charge. After that use your phone and take it down to 30%. Another 6-8 hour charge and then down to no lower then 20-25% and one more full 8 hour charge. At that point your battery should be rebuilt back to a normal life cycle. This should eliminate your battery problem.

  • New battery for laptop, worked, recharged it, then it died. Shows 100% charged still

    Compaq Presario CQ61
    Model: CQ61-405S0
    Win7 64bit
    No error messages.
    Problem:
Computer worked fine with last battery, then the battery capacity went bananas and on boot it strongly recommended to replace the old battery with an new one, so I did. Clicked the new one in, it showed 20% charged, then shut down computer and plugged in power cord to charge it for at least 12 hours like the manual what came with the battery said should be done on first use. Now it won't reboot without power cord and other than windows powermanager saying it's 100% full, battery seems to be completely dead.
Googled it for about 5 hours, tried most reasonable things, like unistalling the drivers for battery in Device Manager, held down the power button for an minut if not more, pluged the battery in and out etc. Several times, with different orders. Still the same. When computer works and I plug the powercord out, it's Instantly powering off.

I think you may have a broken power jack where the power adaptor plugs into the notebook. There are two mechanisms in the jack and circuitry.  One for notebook power and one for charging the battery.  Part of the jack could be damaged or part of the circuitry.  Try the old battery again and see if it acts different.

  • Display stays on while in standby and battery is dying quickly

My phone suddenly is staying lit up while in standby and battery is dying quickly
Not sure if I need new battery or could be something else, has anyone else had this problem.

  • I have been storing my Aperture and IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive that recently died.  Fortunately I've been using Time Machine to back up to a 2nd external drive.  How do I restore my libraries to a new external hard drive?

I have been storing my Aperture and IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive that recently died.  Fortunately I've been using Time Machine to back up to a 2nd external drive.  How do I restore my libraries to a new external hard drive?

    This is a tricky one.
Open up Time Machine and go back to a date using the timeline on the right side of the window when you know the drive was working and was backing up as part of Time Machine backups.
Click on the name of your Mac under the Devices heading on the left side of the window in Time Machine, and if things are working correctly you will see Macintosh HD (or whatever you have named it) and the name of the external hard drive that was backing up in the past.
Right-Click on the name of the external hard drive and then click on "Restore (name of drive) to....."  You may be asked for your adminstrator password at this point.
It might be easier to restore the drive contents to your desktop if you have room on your Mac, and then copy things over to the new external drive where you want to store the Aperture and iMovie Libraries.
Once the libraries have been moved over the new external hard drive, you will likely need to "point" Aperture and iMovie to the location of the libraries on the new external hard drive.

  • My iphone is currently using battery life much more quickly than inthe past, and it also has an icon tht is starying on the screen, to the left of the battery charge percentage, that looks like a lock with a circle around it

i have an iphone that is using battery life much more quickly than in the past, a full charge is going to zero in a half a day or so, with out much use.
an icon is also appearing next to the charge percentage in the top right, and the icon is a circle around a lock
can anyone tell me what the problem is, and what the icon means?

The Icon meas your display orientation is locked to vertical so it wont change when you turn the phone sideways.
First thing you should check with the battery life is multitasking, which also happens to be where the orientation lock can be turned off.  check out   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 and go from there

  • How do I play videos on my new mac that wont show in Quick Time?  windows media player

I just got a new imca - switching from a pc.  When I receive attachments etc that are not formatted for Quick Time, I can not open and play the video.  IS there some other software that I need onmy new Mac that will allow this?  Or is there some other configuration to the Mac's current configuration that I should be using?

First read this: Adding additional media format support to Quicktime:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3526
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer SP for Mac from:
    http://www.real.com/realplayer/mac
Flip4Mac WMV Player from  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm  (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac/player

I'm trying to make iCloud mail my primary email but I'm concerned that I may have lost the perfect email address forever.

I have the same problem. After our wedding I've created an alias ([email protected]) to my actual AppleID Account ([email protected]). Now I'd the idea to delete the alias and my actual AppleID to create a new AppleID with ([email protected]).
Is there really no possibilty to do this?
Thanks in advance for quick and positive feedback.
