New computer user account

I just made a new computer user account, and i want to move all of my itunes library from the old one to the new one. Is this possible?/ if so, how

Assuming you use the iTunes default settings where iTunes copied added items to your iTunes folder and organizes your library (meaning - everything is all self contained in the iTunes folder), then all you have to do is drag & drop your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes Music folder you find inside the iTunes folder) to a shared folder.
Then in the new user account either open the library directly from that location using these instructions...
How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
or move it to overwrite the iTunes folder created in the new user account and when you open iTunes it hopefully will open the old library automatically. If not, then use the instructions above again to point to it.
If you leave it in the shared folder, you can access the same library from either user account. Again you might have to use the above instructions to get them both pointed to the same location, but once you point them there, you won't need to do it anymore.

I created a new administrator USER account. I deleted the original one but the process never ends. It's been 3 days now. And I can't close preferences window or turn off the computer.
It's stays in the "deleting" but I can't cancel it or close the window.
    What can I do?

Here are two screen shots to show you what I am seeing.  The first screen shot shows it allowing me to select (highlighted in blue) my admin user (which is what I am locced in as).  The second screen shot shows it allowing me to select the "Guest" user (highlighted in blue).  However when I click on the user "Orion" nothing happens.  It will not change to highlight that user.

How can i create a new Adminstrator user account ?

    Go to the System Preferences>Users.
Click the lock if and enter your password, if necessary.
Then click on the "+" symbol below the accounts list.
From the "New Account" menu, select"Administrator" and fill in the rest of the information.
And finally click the "Create Account" button.
Done. A new Administrator user account.

  • Safe boot vs new admin user account

If a kernel systems problem presents itself when logging under a new user account identity but NOT when booting up in safe mode - what does this mean?
Does this count out a hardware problem?

Sounds like you have a third party something that loads in any account and is causing the trouble. Safe boot disables all third party goodies (and a fair number of Apple's own as well), while logging into an alternate account would only disable user specific startup applications. So I would guess you installed something that is not user specific (that is, it isn't in the user's own login items, so can't be disabled from there) that is a problem. You can try looking in these two locations and see what, if anything, is there:
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
Thus I have a temperature monitoring gizmo in /Library/StartupItems. Another possiblity is to launch Activity Monitor and arrange the processes in alphabetical order, then select all, copy and paste the list into a text document. Do the same in Safe Boot (assuming Activity Monitor will run) and compare the two lists.
If the computer runs normally in Safe Boot I would say there is nothing wrong with the hardware.

  • Safari not working on my computer user account, works fine for other users.

Safari hangs up and barely opens a page, or the beach ball just spins and then Safari dies. This is only happening on my user account, and on the other user accounts Safari is working fine. I have tried most recommendations, including resetting Safari, inserting DNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220, and turning off plug-ins.
Thanks for any help on this.
    I am using Safari v.4.0.4

Just wanted to add that I am also have the exact same issue. I have not added anything new to my computer. I have not downloaded anything off of the internet, installed any new programs, or changed any preferences. I am running 10.6.2 and Safari 4.0.4
This is extremely frustrating. It makes absolutely no sense.

  • Set up new iMac user accounts & storage locations

I just made the switch from Windows PC to a new iMac  since it is still in the box I thought I would take some time to think about how I want to set it up before opening it and starting to dump all my files onto the new machine. I'd like to have an efficient setup and get it right from the start!
My current (PC) set up is this:
I have one 500Gb internal drive. Using Windows 7 I have four user accounts: me, my wife, and one each for the kids with parental controls. I would like to duplicate this setup, and I understand OS X Lion can do this.
Now the messy part: under my account I have a bunch of docs (word, excel files, PDF's, etc, let's call this stuff "data"), a couple thousand songs, a bunch of pics and some movies. Email etc too. When I log into my account I have a my documents folder with my data files. I have an iTunes folder and in it a bunch of music. Some is from ripped cd's, some from iTunes store, some from amazon mp3 store. When I open iTunes I have a library with all of the music avail on my machine. Oh, I also have an iPad 2 and when I plug it in, it syncs with my library and apps and movies etc. I open Thunderbird and I get my email. So far so good.
When my wife logs in she has her "my documents" folder with her data. She opens thunderbird and gets her email, not mine. More mess though: she doesn't like half the music I like, and she doesn't want to see it. When she opens iTunes she gets a library with fewer songs available, and I'm moderately sure that her songs are *copies* of what's in my music folder. Well some are anyway, some point to the music in my folder (I was not very consistent in how I added music to her library). She has an iPad 1 that syncs to her library, with only a fraction of the apps that I have. She has her own pictures too (different from mine - basically she would copy pics from the camera to her "space" but I wouldn't know it, and wouldn't see them).
The kids accounts are relatively "clean" - just accounts with parental controls for web browsing (online kids games) etc. EXCEPT my daughter has an iPod shuffle (2Gb) and a small library of songs. I *think* this library points to my files but hey might be copies.
I *dont* want to end up with a ton of duplicate files on my new machine like I *know* I have on my windows machine. It just eats up too much space.
What I want to do is have one place for all of the pictures to go, and all of the music files to go, and every time there are new pics or music, it all goes there. But I want my wife to have a "smaller" music library than me (she just plain doesn't want the "clutter" of seeing my music and having to sort through it to check it/uncheck it to put it on her iPad - she's a clutter-free freak even with digital files). For photos I want to use one iPhoto library so that if she goes in there and tags some phots with some keyword or event or adds new pics, then I see those things when I open my iPhoto (I honestly don't even know how to use iPhoto to manage my pics, my iMac is till in the box). I want her to have her data under her login and my data under mine, etc. In short, there things I want shared between the two of us, and things I don't, without duplicate files eating up the space on my 500Gb internal hard drive.
Additionally I am considering a 500Gb external drive, and rather than using it for straight up storage, using it as a time machine backup of the whole system. I am looking at a FireWire800 drive for better performance.
I'd like to get this right the first time, but don't know enough about how os x works/sets up user accounts, and/or the best, most efficient way to set up the new iMac from the get go. I don't know if I should set up all four accounts first, then add my data/music/pics manually, or use the "migration assistant" (I have read a bit about using it but honestly don't know how it works, or if it will do what I want).
Perhaps I could just print out this email and pay for apple one-to-one service, but I thought I'd check here first! Sorry for such a long post - but I am hoping I'm not the only one who has wanted to make the switch and start off on the right path! And it's a lot easier to learn from other peoples experience than to figure it all out on my own!
PS: don't know if it matters much, but I also hav an iPhone that I sync with my iTunes, and I'm concerned about losing the configuration/apps/music/movies on both my iPad and my iPhone when I make the switch. Thoughts? Should I be concerned? How do I do it correctly?

You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. Give them a call and they can help you set it up, however to be honest you are way over thinking this, those old PC habits die hard! My recommendation is, take it out of the box, read the manual carefully and turn the thing on following the on-screen instructions and start enjoying your new iMac.
BTW as new switcher I would also recommend book marking the following URLs

    Switch 101

    Hi Jack,
the ISA USER ADMIN TOOL shows you the generated password when the new user is created. It also sends an email to the user using his/her email address.
You can see the email in transaction code SOST although it's contents are encrypted.
I hope this information helps you.
    Best regards,
    Nacho.

  • New XP User Account

My original 4 year old XP user account is getting flaky. I created a new account to test on and have decided I need to migrate. Is there a simple way of transferring all of my songs/playlists to the new account without having to backup everything to disc first. I plan to delete my old user account once everything is moved and I don't want to accidentally destroy all of my music.

Move the entire iTunes folder to a shared directory.
In the new account, start iTunes while holding Shift. It will ask to "Create a new library" or "Choose an existing library". Select Choose existing, then go the library you moved.
    That's it.

  • New computer, authorized account...how to I get my purchases downloaded onto this new computer?

I got a new laptop, but I can't seem to figure out how to re-download the purchases I've made so far. How can I get that music back in my library? When I click the "check for downloads" button or whatever it's called, it says everything's downloaded, but I have nothing in the downloads...can't I get my music from the store since it's memorized my purchases??

I'm afraid you've misunderstood the nature of data on your computer. Yes, you can log into Facebook, GMail, YouTube etc. from any computer and all the content appears in front of you. The same is not true for documents and data created and stored on your own computer. Your iTunes library is this kind of data. It should be backed up on a regular basis and copied to your new computer when you switch machines.
If you stilll have access to the old computer, or it's hard drive, then it should be possible to undo the mistake. If not you can try to log into your iTunes store account from your new computer and use the Report a problem links from a recent purchase as a route through to the store staff. Explain your predicament carefully and calmly, explain that you realise that you have made a foolish error but that you are now unable to access or recover any of the media that you had previously purchased from the store and you would be grateful if they would let you download your purchases again.
The iTunes Store is under no obligation to permit second downloads but reports suggest that the support staff have, on occasion, chosen to do so.
Good luck, and back up your data in future.

  • Want to move library to new Windows user account

My son had the first family ipod. I installed itunes in my account, not his, and it works fine. We have since added three more ipod users, all under their own window's accounts; they work fine. Well, now dad has an ipod, and I want my own itunes account/library under my user name. What is the simplest way to transfer my son's itunes account/library, currently under my window's account, to his own window's account?

No need for reply...I figured it out through Windows Explorer

  • MPC - New computer user purpose.......

I usually end up passing my old components down to family members rotating by who has the oldest components.  Well in this case I can't really do that.  My old motherboard is a KT6V-LSR Socket A and Full size ATX so it won't fit in a MicroATX MPC case along with this I'm not going to go out and purchase a MicroATX socket A motherboard just to have an outdated worthless socket A motherboard lieing around.
So, I'm doing things a bit different and passing my old equipment to another family member and just building a brand mew system for my father.  He lives in a Fifth Wheel so space is a premium which is why I'm looking at 19" LCD's for him after I get mine.
Currently though he does need a new system badly so I am starting to spec things out as he can continue to use his 17" Micron Monitor.
This is what I have so far:
Keep in mind I'm not made of money and I'm trying to do a nice system for him on a budget of under $700.00.

I would like a TV@nywhere Duo although I can't find anywhere to buy them in the US. :(  An equivalent card that can support both Analog and Digital would be nice w/ Remote.
Past that where I'm at is I can't decide on a case.  I want a small case, a Front LED is something I would really like to have for him, but I'm not sure it's feasible.  If not I would like 2 external 5 1/4" Drive bays so I can add a VCR Drive.  And yes I know they make them, but I lost my bookmark. :(  Now I have to spend hours trying to find the words I typed in that brought it up in google and hours searching to find the right link. :(
Edited to update budget from $500 to $700

Well I'm getting closer to what I want to do here.  As I said, he barely knows how to turn a computer on.
    I read a review here:
    http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/cases/Tt_Bach/
It seems the Thermaltake Bach has gotten some realy good reviews, not just from there.
I've already decided not to keep the RS482M4-ILD board I have so I will be using this for his system.  Still not sure on processor as I may end up just upgrading mine and moving the whole set over into the Bach Case.
This will be a bit off as I'm going to purchase a new LCD 19" for myself first and then I'm waiting for the RD580 Chipset before I do this, but I need to get the short list together of what I need to purchase.  I intend to start getting everything out of the way as I can so I can get this setup for him.
I figure I will go ahead with:

Just hope it's easy to use otherwise I will be buying Intervideo's setup. :-/
