New desktop hangs, freezes, and reboots randomly.

Per the "Note Before Posting", here is my data.
Product Name/Number: HP Pavilion HPE-H8-1234 Desktop
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Error message: None
Changes made: None. Out-of-the-box failures.  Initial setup.
I just purchased an HP Pavilion HPE-H8-1234 Refubished Desktop (included with a 90 day warranty from HP).  It arrived at my apartment yesterday.  During the initial setup (within 5 minutes of turning on the machine), the computer hung, froze, and then rebooted itself.  I spent much of last night updating the OS via Windows Update and repeatedly had the same problem.  This probably happened 8 or so times over the course of an evening.
Are there any known issues with this computer that can be easily solved?
I think this may be a defective product.
Any information or help on either fixing the issue or returning the desktop would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Follow-up, in case anyone in the future has similar issues and receives no support on the forums.
After three days of misbehavior, this computer is on its way back to HP.
Upon getting home from work the second day, I found the computer to be in a state where it had tried to reboot itself but could not make it back up.  It was at the initial startup screen with three errors.
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed.
Per chat request, they had me run a BIOS-based "DPS Self-test" on the hard drive.  This was comprised of two tests, the first one relatively short (10 minutes or so) and the second one rather long (2 hours).  The test came back as successful.
Next chat service had me use System Recovery to restore the hard drive to the factory state is was in the day before, when I got it.  This succeeded, but shortly thereafter the computer exhibited the same problems.  Random lockups, crashes, and reboots.  Sometimes able to recover back into Windows, sometimes not.
I then emailed HP support, and they asked me to check the cables by removing and replacing them from the hard drive.  They sent me full instructions on how to open the computer, remove, and replace the hard drive.  This did not resolve the problem.
After this, they had me reset the BIOS settings.  This too did not resolve the problem.
Upon reporting these results to HP via email, they instructed me to do the BIOS DPS Self Test and System Recovery.  I had already spent nearly 4 hours the previous night doing these things, but I don't think the email support representative had read the chat logs I'd mentioned.  After informing email support of these things, they agreed I did not need to do this again and began the process of setting up a return for the desktop.
It looks like it will take 3-5 business days for the shipping supplies to arrive, then the time for me to ship the desktop back to them, then another 5-7 business days of repair at HP, then the shipping time thereafter for the desktop to be returned to me.  I therefore estimate the total time between my original purchase of the computer and me receiving a working desktop to be on the order of 1 month. Frustrating indeed, but I guess that's how the cookie crumbles.
Either way, I'm looking forward to having this new computer up and running. It's too bad this one ended up being such a lemon, but once it's working I'm sure I'll be a happy camper.

  • New X1 box freezes and reboots multiple times

My wife and I just got our X1 box replaced because the old box had a hardware issue that the tech said was due to a loose fan. Somehow, we had the old box set to reboot once a day - can't seem to find out how to set the new box to do so - and the new box, which was installed yesterday morning, has rebooted at least 5 times since the tech dropped it off. Our old box never reset so many times in one day, even when there was a service issue. Can anyone help me with this?

I'm having the same issues. Already had Comcaset internet, but decided to get their TV also. The X1 DVR was installed last Friday. It tends to reboot a few times a day. I've attempted to record 3 shows and only one actually finished out. After that one finished recording, it locked the system up with the record light still going. Last night, during Sharkweek and Hannibal, it rebooted once, then locked up 20 minutes later. I called Comcast today and the guy said that the firmware is out of date and could be causing it to overheat. He was going to start the firmware to download and said to powercycle in 45 minutes. Unfortnunately, I have no idea what the old version was so I don't know if it actually did anything. If it starts acting up again, I'll have a tech come out.

  • Lumia 620 randomly freezes and reboots

I knew a cheap windows phone is too good to be true. I've been getting random freezes and reboots without any reason at all. This is unacceptable, nokia should address this windows 8 issue afflicting wp 8 phones. Please don't tell be to do a soft or hard reset because we already know it won't fix the problem.

Hi, everyone. I've been having problems with random reboots ever since I bought my Lumia 620 and it was driving me crazy. It freezes up sporadically too, but I think I found a fix for rebooting issues.
When my cousin bought her Lumia 620 I immediately asked her if hers rebooted sporadically as well. She said it hadn't, not once. Then, one time her battery was dying so I gave her mine, and she left me with her battery and on charger while she went home. Anyway, hers started to reboot frequently, whilst mine was behaving ok.
When we replaced the batteries again, mine began rebooting again.
Finally, I checked both our batteries and found out mine was moving around the device more freely than hers. Hers was held firmly in place while mine danced around. Then I tried moderate, yet gentle tap on the side of my device and it rebooted EVERY TIME I tapped it. After I inserted a small, neatly folded piece of paper between the device and the battery, the battery clicked in place tightly and it couldn't move at all. Reboots stopped, no matter how strong I tapped the sides of the device.
This hasn't resolved any freezes, but at least it's not rebooting all the time. So check your battery, maybe it is a hairline thinner or smaller or whatnot from the rest of them and it can move around. A millisecond is enough for it to lose contact, half a millimeter of movement is enough to cause your phone to reboot. Hope this revelation of mine will help someone

  • Ipad 4 Retina display keeps freezing and reboots

the past week my Ipad 4 has been having problems with freezing and rebooting. I deleted a game app which I thought was the problem and now when I use my email app it will start to freeze then reboot. Of course my warranty has just run out when this happened. I have tried the stadard things up to resetting but not a complete restore yet. Sometimes when rebooting it will hang and I get pixilation etc. This is very frustrating any ideas? IOS 7.04. 32GB.

Did the standard things include Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings? You could have a corrupt setting that is causing problems. You won't lose any data, but it takes some time to enter all of the device settings again and you will have to do that if you reset all settings.
If that doesn't work, then you probably should backup, restore to factory settings and them restore from the backup. If that fails, then the next step is to restore as new and not from the backup, them rebuild the iPad by adding your apps and content methodically looking for any signs of further problems.

  • Freezing and Rebooting issue - Hardware or Softwar...

Sorry if this has been asked before...but...
Is the freezing and rebooting issue caused by a fault in the Hardware or Software...?
Can someone from BT please explain just exactly what is going on.
    Thank you,

Just been on live chat as we are fed up of freezing up, random reboots and failed recordings. Usually happens on Gold, Sky Sports - the non freeview channels. Advice from Geetesh was factory reset thus losing existing recordings, stating rather optimistically that this 'will resolve the problem'. When pushed on freezing and failed recordings issue Geetesh said recording of 'internet channels is in a test phase so won't be able to record'?? But we have recorded on gold, fox for example - response is that it won't always work, only for some customers.
The advisor was getting confused. The bit about recording broadband channels still being in test phase only applies to BT Youview boxes. The recording functionality has been available for broadband channels on the BT Vision+ boxes since they launched last January.
To answer the original question. The occasional freezes and reboots are caused by the New Look software (possibly in conjunction with associated system changes on the BT servers). Many of us had years of trouble free viewing using the Classic software on the same black BT Vision+ boxes. It was only when we were upgraded to the New Look software that all the troubles began. If however, you are getting such problems many times per day, or even many times per hour that could indicate a hardware fault.

  • My iPod Touch is freezing and rebooting itself.

    Hi.
    Here's the story:
My iPod was recently working yesterday. I left it on the wall charger for a while, and later I come back to find my iPod frozen, out of nowhere. For another while, it freezes and starts to reboot itself. I done all I can. I watched videos on how to unfreeze it and etc, and I tried restoring it, and doing about everything I can to recover this iPod, it doesn't work. So I turned it off, and let it settle overnight. This morning, I turn it on, and it restored, everything was working fine, until when I go to my Messages app, it freezes once again, and now it is doing the same thing, but this time it repeats to the home screen, freezes, and reboots again. I tried calling for support and they said my warranty is expired.
I own an iPod Touch 4G, 8GB, for about 6 months.
To be specific: It always goes to the Apple logo and then the loading circle then shuts off, then does it again. Before this problem about a day before this happened, I accidentally put a little water on it and wiped it off while I was working on chores. (Sorry, I often have it next to me a lot.) Plus, I did have a lot of data on it but it didn't seem much of a problem.
Please, if anyone can help, tell me what is the reason behind this problem, and at least if you can try to solve this for me. I will try going to a local Apple store later on if this problem keeps going. But for right now, I need this help. Thank you all.
    Bye.

    - Have yu tried letting the battery fully draining and then charging and trying to retore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod?

  • Keeps freezing and opening random apps

So, I got my iphone 5 around February, and now it keeps freezing and opening random apps. Or when I am on the keyboard, it types random things.I have tried "Reset all Settings" and "Erase all Content and settings" without backing up with cloud and NOTHING is working. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, after reading all responses, I must say first of all thank you for keeping this active. It might help more people since I am not the only one with this issue.
What have I done so far? I used the soft reset quite often since it freezes often and the only way to get something out of it is the soft reset. It then takes a little while to reset ( more than once it seems) where the white light with black apple shows up and goes black again, then the home screen, flashes a few times, goes white again..... Black.... Home screen. I noticed that if I just let it do what it does, eventually it will get back to normal..... Until next time. I have emptied the ram, deleted pictures and apps to free space and keep my email accounts low. After all of that I noticed that it still reboots by its own ( suddenly white light w/ apple) and it gets warm on the back ( must be using lots of energy) at least once every day. Even when I think, ok 1 day w/out frozen screen, the light comes on suddenly at night while charging. I also noticed that it even happend once to my iPad ( 2) after updating to 8.3 so I still think it has to do with the recent update to iPhones 5 or older. Dont know if some one has had any problems like that with iPhone 6 or plus.
just wanted to follow up from my end and I think I will just hold on to the next update that hopefully solves the issue. If more ppl have that same problem it might happen soon. So, please keep posting and make the community aware of this so a fix will come soon.. !

  • Iphone 3gs freezes and reboots itself every now and then

Hi, I have an iPhone 3GS with latest firmware 5.0.1 and sometimes it just freezes and reboots itself. I tried to restore it as new, from backup, I upgraded firmwares but still every now and then it just reboots itself. Often when I start the phone in the morning it reboots several times in a row. Are the latest firmwares buggy or what? Please help!

I found solution on this forum.  He said the problem solved by reset all setting -> as new phone.  (Don't worry, data is preserved).  This works for me so far.. keep my finger cross.

  • HT201263 My Iphone 4s freezes and reboots

It freezes and reboots anywhere from 5-14 times a day 14 is the most it has done it to me some far. I tried deleting everything and restoring it as a new phone as i was told to do when i called for support but it did not work

If restoring as new didn't help, there is a hardware problem and you need to take it to Apple or whoever provides warranty service in your country.

  • Z3 compact freezes and reboots constantly with large music collection on sd card.

    Hi
On adding my music collection(72GB) to the sd card via the usb cable, I've run into a pretty serious issue/bug with my z3 compact. This renders the phone useless.   All is well as long as I never reboot/shutdown the phone after adding music. I've successfully used the walkman app for a number of days with the full music colletion present.  Once the phone is shutdown,  on restart it gets hot, battery starts to drain significantly( +- 10% in about 4min) and it then freezes and reboots constantly. I've tried a number of things to attempt to recover.
removing the sd card, leaving it out and restarting the phone
removing the music files from the sd card
factory reset but keeping the music files on the sd card
I've used mp3diags to scan my collection for broken files, there were some minor issues with id3 tags which I've corrected but no broken files.
None of these actions improved matters, the only solution seems to be to erase data from the sd card and factory reset the phone. Then add the files again. This is quite time consuming and very very frustrating.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Have a look at this post....sounds very much like what you are experiencing dont you think

  • 3GS Frequent freezes and Reboots since 3.1

Since installing 3.1 my iPhone 3GS freezes and reboots several times daily. Sometimes when it freezes I have to do a hard reboot several times before it will actually restart. This was never an issue with my Original iPhone or the 3GS prior to 3.1. Anyone else experiencing these problems??

Well, on one hand I'm glad that it's not just me. From a trouble-shooting perspective that rules out a lot of potential local issues on my end. Most likely it's a 3.1 issue then. Hopefully someone at Apple is paying attention and a software update is on it's way. I've seen other posts now where people have gotten new phones (mine's under warranty still so I could too) but it hasn't solved the issue. Again, not localized to one phone puts the issue squarely in Apple's court.

  • IPhone freezes and reboots

I've got a strange problem and this is ironically right after I tried to convince my girlfriend that the iPhone is the most usefull phone in the world.
The iphone is factory unlocked (no hacks or anything) running 2.2.1
I tried to access safari which cased the phone to just freeze on a black screen.
After I tried rebooting it simply froze at the Passcode screen, would show the spinning wheel then reboot.
It just keeps on doing that.
I can't touch the screen to unlock it and I cannot restore it with iTunes because it says that I need to enter the Passcode on the phone before I can use iTunes. Again I can't enter the passcode because the phone freezes and reboots....
I cannot enter into DFU mode because I'm using a Mac 10.5.6 (another bit of irony)

I found solution on this forum.  He said the problem solved by reset all setting -> as new phone.  (Don't worry, data is preserved).  This works for me so far.. keep my finger cross.

You can force quit by holding the power button down for extended period.
During boot up hold down the Option key and choose your Macintosh HD OSX.
In >System Preferences> Startup Disk>choose your internal OSX System as Default.

Firefox 3.6.23 is experiencing constant freezing and rebooting issues with Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin, not sure if it is a conflict issue or not.
Since the update there had been no reported issues till today when the blue screen came up on me, this issue prior to plug in 11 had occurred at least 6 times, this issue only happens on firefox.
I do not wish to update since recent firefox browsers seem to have a lot of ongoing issues.
