New Editing Laptop

I'm looking to get into some photo and video editing but my laptop I have right now just isn't going to cut it. I've considered building a pc but I really would like a laptop that I can use for school too. I'm planning on mostly using After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop. Right now, I'm thinking about getting the Lenovo Y50  Lenovo Y50 Laptop | 15.6" High-Performance Gaming Notebook PC | Lenovo US
These are the specs:
-4th Generation Intel Core i7-4720HQ Processor (2.60GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB
-16 GB RAM
I know this isn't going to have mind blowing performance, but I can't spend a ton of money. From what I've read so far it seems to have pretty good reviews. Based on the specs what do you think I could expect? Would you recommend this computer and if not is there anything you would recommend around this price point? Thank you!

Generally OK but the single 5400 rpm hard drive makes it totally useless.
Edit by Bill
If you are handy with computers and can find any upgrade information on the upgradability of the computer you might be able to clone the hard disk to a SSD drive (It would have to a good one like a Samsung 850 Pro) and make a marginally acceptable Premiere Pro laptop.  You would also need a very high speed USB3 flash drive, good ones are hard to find.  I have my project file and the media on one and it is working great.
I just took a look at the specs for the Y50 and if you are ordering from Lenovo you have options
"Up to 1TB Hybrid SSHD with integrated 8 GB NAND flash or up to 512GB SSD"

  • I tried to sync my iPhone 4S to new work laptop and it keeps buzzing, won't sync

I just got a new Dell laptop for work and installed iTunes.  When I hooked up my iPhone 4S to my laptop, Windows first showed that it was installing some driver and then iTunes opened, and then my phone just kept repeat buzzing.  I noticed the battery icon & bluetooth icon at the top right of phone screen kept flickering.  I opened Control Panel-Device Manager-Bluetooth Devices and a Bluetooth Mobile Device icon would pop up and then disappear repeatedly.
I tried disabling the Bluetooth driver, and then disconnected and re-connected my phone - iTunes opened up again but I still got the repeat buzzing, and an error message that iTunes could not connect to phone.
I still have my old laptop and it connects and syncs my phone no problem.
Not sure what is the problem or what to do next?
I'm guessing my IT dept will just tell me that they don't support iTunes and that I'm on my own with this issue.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#error29
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

  • I am in the market for a new HP Laptop.

I am in the market for a new HP Laptop seeing as how my current one is starting to die out on me. I am looking for one that would last me at least 3 or more years like my current has and i kinda have one i like in mind at this link:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/envy-17-3-laptop-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive/9769246.p?id=1219041359741&sk...
So my my main question is going to be this: Does Best buy match prices or beat them out if i find the same model cheaper and with a mail in rebate on another retailer's website such as office depot?
I am doing price comparisons right now, because i don't know how long my current HP Pavillion Entertainment PC will hold out. I have had it for 3 years and now my on board graphics chipset or the LCD Monitor one are starting to mess up on me and i had to replace the fan and battery almost 2 or 3 months ago and now this issue is popping up. It boots up with a green screen when i turn it on at the moment, but then after it has warmed up the screen clears back up like normal. So that is why i figured that it is about time for a newer model laptop and where my researching and price comparing will come in down the line.
If you have any other laptop suggestions for me to at least look at please tell me. I want at least 750 GB or 1 TB HDD and an Intel Core i5 or I7 Processor in these suggestions too, because i do heavy duty Video Editing and Processing for my website and for Video Game Video Walkthroughs and need not only the best Processor it can handle, but for website backups and for the space doing Webcam video recordings can handle too.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have and if the current one i have linked is worth my time in saving for please be so kind as if to let me know that as well. I don't care if it has a Touch Screen or not. But any suggestion for research is always welcome.

The RAM of my HP Pavillion Dv4-2164us model is currently 4, but it is starting to boot up with a green screen when I first start it. So I am thinking about going with the J020 Envy which is a 17 Screen display or I might go for this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/envy-touchsmart-17-3-touch-screen-laptop-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive/18203... if I go 4th gen Intel Core i7 Processor and Touch Screen
The next thing after I save up after getting whatever next Laptop I buy will be a Cooling Pad and an External HDD that I can put into one of the USB Ports or where ever you hook them up so that I can backup it up for a rainy day as they say.
The only reason why I am not opting for the becoming popular SSD is the Price tag to get the amount of space I would need is still out of my price range if I got one included. I have to be realistic and on budget as much as I don't want to be.
If I went 4th gen I5 I might get something like this:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/envy-17-3-laptop-8gb-memory-750gb-hard-drive/2354033.p?id=1219072210771&...
I would have shown a 15 screen laptop, but the CD/DVD Combo drive is not included in any of them. I would need one to back up my new laptop's OS and files the first week I use it to save from having to reformat or reinstall stuff if things even got messed up.
I have been thinking a lot about all of this not like it was a just now knowing this type of thing either. I have known for some time about that. Thanks for trying to help too.

  • Why isn't itunes 11.1.3 installing on my new VAIO laptop with windows 8.1 (64 bit)?

I am trying to install itunes on my new VAIO laptop 64 bit with Windows 8.1 operating system. At the end of the installation, as soon as itunes is trying to open, an error message comes up, saying "an error has caused the program to stop running." I tried the compatibility troubleshoot, it says "incompatible program". Does that mean, even latest version of itunes can not run on windows 8.1? If there is any solution, please advise. By the way, I have tried to run it on compatibility mode for windows 7 , windows vista etc, no luck.  Thank you.

  • Connecting my gen 4-5 nano to new HP laptop windows 8 using USB 3.0 port computer restarts

Connecting my gen 4-5 nano to my new HP laptop Windows 8 using USB 3 port itunes opens then an error message "your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart ........." WDF Violation. If I don't disconnect the nano the computer will keep restarting. After restarting a window opens saying it wants to send the following files to Microsoft "C:\Windows\Minidump\010413-20875-01.dmp, C:\Users\Curt\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-69015-0.sysdata.xml, C:\Windows\Memory.DMP". It does this using any of the 3 USB 3 ports. Using the USB 2 port it works just fine. Thanks for any help and as info.

I found the solution!!!  Even ended up educating the tech -- who didn't have a clue.
I have a brand new  7th gen iPod Nano, a brand new Windows 8 laptop, and iTunes 11. Everything was working all fine and dandy until I unchecked "Enable Disc Usage in iTunes on my iPod.  Then all **** broke loose.  I got the blue screen of death with the WDF_violation and I couldn't even plug my Nano in without it crashing my computer, let alone access iTunes to re-enable Disc Usage. Because the crashes happened immediately after I did that I just KNEW it had something to do with that.  Trouble is, I couldn't fix it.... or so I thought.
I was on the phone with the tech, who was telling me it was a driver issue ( impossible because both the laptop and iPod are brand new) and I was looking around in iTunes while she did.
HERE IS YOUR SOLUTION:  Edit --> Preferences --> Devices.  Check Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically.  Then plug in your iPod, re-enable the Disc Usage, and voile!!!!!!  Problem solved.

  • Sync ipad2 to a new dell laptop

    Issues 1
i purchased a new dell laptop and now my ipad will not give me the ability to sync the only button clickable is  revert

Did you transfer your purchases to the new iTunes library on your PC? You will also want to backup your iPad.
You need to authorize your computer as well in order to download iTunes content. From the iTunes menu at the top go to Store>Authorize this computer.
Read this and see if it makes sense to you. It is a way to transfer your purchased content to iTunes. The information was copied from this discussion.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2431472
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • How do I pull music from an old iphone and put on my new hp laptop and transfer to my iphone 4?

I have an old iphone 3gs and have lots of music on it that doesnt exist anywhere else that i want to transfer to my new hp laptop and put on my new iphone 4.
everytime i try and sync it tells me it will delete everything and sync w my new library. how can i add these files to my new library?

Some of the information below has subsequently been summarized by turingtest2 in the post at https://discussions.apple.com/message/18842615
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141 - dates from 2008 and some outdated information now.

  • How do I use Downloadthemall add-on with new edition of Firefox?

I installed the new edition of Firefox, but now am unable to use Downloadthemall application. Please advise.

Does the rest of the extensions list look accurate, and are the enabled/disabled groups correct? I wonder whether your extensions database has become corrupted. In the past, I have seen instructions to rename or delete certain files in your Firefox profile (settings) folder, but rather than copy and paste here, I think it's better to wait for someone more familiar with this area.

  • Can I transfer music from my ipod to my itunes app on a new mac laptop?

Can I transfer music from my ipod to my itunes app on a new mac laptop?

Yeah! Click on your iPod when it shows up under "Devices" on the left side of iTunes while plugged in. Click on the music tab at the top and select "Manually Manage songs and playlists". Then click the arrow next to you iPod on under "Devices" and it will drop down "Music" "Videos" etc under it. Go to "Music" and select all your songs and drag them to the iTunes "Music" tab. They should copy over. Then you can go back and enable autosync.
