New folder, very slow typing response

Just bought my 2nd 13" mb pro from the apple store, had them install an addition 2g memory before I took it home and ever since I opened the package a couple weird things are happening.
1) In entourage, when I goto make a new sub-folder below my INBOX I type in the name of the folder and the type is very very slow, never keeps up and it jumbles the words in the wrong positions. Eg. I type FITNESS on the keyboard, and it comes up NIFITESS and is very slow doing that. Whats the deal? New laptop, original and registered office installed. (almost like it has low memory)
2) The system sometimes will hang for 5-10 seconds doing normal tasks, always comes back but it acts like it has memory issues
Any help?

I am going to take her in tomorrow, since its new there is no reason why I shouldn't. The PRAM reset "seems" to have fixed the issue. Just not sure why I would have to reset that on a brand new machine 2 hours after it was turned on for the first time, makes me think something else is brewing in there.

  • Very Slow Site Response

    Dear All,
    I would like to say thanks for all.
    Let me explain our environment first then move on to the queries.
    Environment: We have one SharePoint 2013 application VM
    windows 2012 server, two web front end VM Windows 2012 server and dedicated SQL physical server.  The SP VM has 2*vCPU (2core) and 16 GB of physical memory, DB has 2*CPU (8core) and 16GB of RAM.  All servers are connected via 1 GB connection.  Intranet
    is connected via 100 Mb link and for internet via 5Mbps ISP.
    Farm Configuration:
    Both front end servers had Managed metadata service and distributed cache service
    Application server had CA (basic service) and managed metadata service, there was no excel, Visio and other service.
    Site: We are developed custom webpart and all other stuff
    like design at all.  The average page size is 1.5Mb.  The site was extended to intranet and internet (anonymous) zones.  We are already configured BLOB cache, object cache and output cache.
    Clarification & Queries:
    While we are doing the load test in intranet site by 300 Concurrent user in the LAN (i.e 100 Mbps). It getting very slow and "Service Unavailable" error.  Please, why
    the servers are not supporting 300 concurrent users?
    While we are performing the test, the network traffics are received from client (test agent) to WFE and send to DB. Please, Why the page cache and object caches are working or not?
    If the site will opened to internet, how the site and server are react to users?
    Please give us you needful help.
    FYR please look on to the load test summary https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/579571
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sathiya

    1) As a rule of thumb a SharePoint server can support in the region of 100 active users per SharePoint server. 300 is within the realm of expectations, depending on test content and definitions of active. You haven't mentioned the CPU load or the amount
    of memory paging you're seeing on the servers during the test. I would expect them to be maxed out on one or more of your servers? Note that RAM load isn't directly helpful as SharePoint is a greedy application and may be using all of it at very low load levels.
    2) Caching reduces the traffic but does not eliminate it. You're looking in the wrong place to see if the page cache is active. From memory you need to examine HTTP headers to verify if page caching is active or not.
    3) In what sense?
    4) No problem.
    The link you posted is broken.
    Finally you describe this in the title as 'very slow site response' which is not what you're describing in the text (fairly well) which is better described as a lower than hoped level of concurrency. Are you also getting slow response times at lower load?
    Really finally: You've posted this in the wrong forum, this is a search specialist sub forum. You would get more notice and assistance in the general forum for this thread. Hopefully a moderator can move it for you...

  • My iPad 2 is very slow in response, please suggest

    My iPad 2 32gb is very slow in response, It's used by my daughter. and has lots apps installed. and had 6gb still unused. If i click on any apps, it takes 2-3 minutes to load. Any app. please suggest how to improve performance.

    1. There may be a download stuck in another area such as a song or podcast that is preventing the app from updating.
    Go to the iTunes app on your iPad. Check to see if you have any downloads pending there. That pending download may be blocking app updates. If so, delete the item. That may get the app installation going again.
    2. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Then tap the App Store > Updates

  • Slow typing response

    The response time for typing is very slow. I tried online and desktop application, but still there is a uncomfortable delay of displaying the typed letters. I am working on a Acer Netbook, Windows 7, 1 GB Ram.
    Thanks for help,
    Carsten

    Hmm well with 1.25gb something is definitely up.
    From the top of my head
    a) Belt and braces, take the ram cover off and make sure both chips are firmly seated - I know the system profiler shows them, but you never know!
    b) Ensure your disk is not close to full
    c) if you have lots of icons on the desktop, consolidate them into one folder on the desktop to reduce the total number of icons.
    d) Run activity monitor - check cpu usage and memory usage under normal conditions and immediately when the problem occurs - make sure you show all processes - it could be a process taking up all the resources.
    e) There was an issue related to "kernel task" and 10.4.3 and having more than 1gb that was supposedly fixed in a recent update - it transpires that "kernel task" is trackpad related - so if this is showing at more than 5-6% of cpu then this could be the problem - are you comepletely up to date OS X wise? you could try running on just the 1gb alone and see if it continues. Also, does the problem still occur with Airport running?
    Thats the best I can do for the moment - I hope it helps.
    PS - I notice you are running 10.4.1 - I'd suggest updating to 10.4.3 to see if that fixes the problem. Have you considered a clean install?

  • Synronizing folder very slow in main folder

    I am experiencing that sometimes when I try to syncronize my main folder (that contains 12000 photos) it's either very slow and it's only importing half the pictures. If I syncronize the subfolder where the new picture are, they import in a flash. Why is that? What can I do?
    I work on a MacBook Pro, but have recently shiftet from a PC and I'm using the same catalouge. 99 procent of the photos are jpg, their are some Psd files and some eps. I recently had problems importing two psd files. I let it sync for a few hours but the photos never showed.
    Anybody who can help?

    I have the same issue. I use my Retina primarily for photography. Browsing photos takes a long time compare to my pc. The pc from 2006 is even faster opening the same folders with pictures from external harddrive. There should be users with same issue.
    Would like to see a solution. Cant believe a 2006 quad core 4gb can out perform a 2.4 i7 16gb......

  • PowerPoint 2010 - slow typing response

    I've tried several things that have been suggested - turning off spell check as you type did nothing. Seems the problem is related to opening existing files - don't have this slowness issue when I open PPT and start a new presentation.

    The problem is POOR coding by the Microsoft Office Developers.
    I know the exact issue here and why some have no problems on new presentations but later they are bad. This is not a printer driver issue. This is not because you are editing existing files. This is not a backgrounds issue - this is an issue with the preview
    thumbnail pane.
    I don't know what it is actually called but it is the little pane on the left side that shows you the thumbnail view of all of your slides. If you close this pane then you will have slow keyboard response. If you have it open then everything works fine.
    This was not a problem in previous versions of PowerPoint so this is clearly some stupid enhancement the idiot developers caused in the new version.
    Again, open and keep open the preview/thumbnail view of slides and you will be able to type fast, without a delay. If you hide it, then you will have slow performance. This is why people don't see the problem on new presentations because that typically opens
    with the thumbnail pane open and so it looks like you are typing fine. But then when people use existing presentations where most people hide that thumbnail panel, it looks like you have slow performance.
    I can't find anywhere on Micro$ucks site on how to tell them to fix this so this is the only place I can post. They are total idiots that don't every check their products before they roll them out so I'm not surprised by this. The quality control is awful.
    Try making a graphics slide that has a bunch of lines/text/shapes/etc and then do a select all and group it and then try to copy/paste that selection to another slide and you will sometimes see the text all messed up, or lines out-of-place. This was not an
    issue in previous PowerPoints but 2010 screwed up a lot of stuff and stuff that should have easily been checked by beta testers because they are fundamental to the product. PATHETIC.

  • Very slow typing (just in mail)

    hi,
    Im quite new here and I would kindly ask you for your help.
    I have had my iPhone 4 for some months now. It was my first apple product. Everything so far had gone pretta good, except some problems with the updates.
    For about two months now I am also writing and checking my emails on the iPhone. After a few weeks, typing mails became very very slow. The program opened as quickly as before but I had to wait 5-10 seconds to at least one word I have typed. After a few days i updatet my iPhone to the newest version and everything went fine again. But now, about 2 weeks later the problem is appearing again. I have just tried to type one short sentence and it took me nearly two minutes. I can hear the sound of typing (klick) but no letters can be seen on the display. After waiting about one minute, the text appears. Everything else in the mail app is working fine (quick changes between the different files and so on)
    I have checked the settings and everything should be fine according to what is recommended here and the size of the mails I have still in the entrance and in other files is really small.
    Please be so kind and tell me what to do. I need the problem very very often and need to find a solution.
    Thank you very much in advance
    Gina

    Thank you once again ckuan,
    I have found out something different now. Every time I leave Safari from one special site, mail does not work after that. I changed to another site on the Internet, changed into the mail app and everything was working just fine. To make sure that this is it I changed again to my usual homepage, typing was again not possibe in the mail. Further I have just made sure that I wait a few more seconds after this small wheel stops turning after the actualisation and the problem so far does not longer appear. I hope this will stay like that.
    (By the way, I have found that in an older discussion from 2008, where it helped with an older version, where the same problem appeared.)

  • New T530 very slow

    I just bought a new T530 and it is running very slow.  A little background.  I am not too tech savvy and use a T520, T420 (both of which I bought used) and this new T530.  All are i5, 4 GB RAM and because they are work machines I have whole disc encryption, VPN software and some other required software.  All have regular HDD as spped hasn't been an issue for me.  Of the 3 my T420 is by far the fastest.  The T520 is slower but acceptable but the brand new T530 is very slow.  I use Chrome for my personal browser on all machines but for work stuff it is Internet Explorer 8 and Microsoft Outlook for e-mail.  I have searched posts here and deleted some of the Lenovo and Thinkpad preloaded software, performed updates, stiopped some start-up programs in msconfig and made sure it is set to maximum performance.  Even when I have no programs running the processor is running in the background constantly.  It is slow to boot up and slow to open any programs.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I am going to try and use the 530 and 420 side by side to compare what processes and services are running to see what is different.  Any other suggestions would be very helpful.
    Dave

    Are you using software FDE? If so, are they all using accelerated AES-NI?

  • "Save As" command with very slow Finder response in Tiger

    Ever since upgrading to Tiger using the "Archive & Install" option, my applications have had very slow operation of the "Save As" command. The Finder takes a long time to open and display the Save As window with folders and file name etc. This has occurred on all of my computers - a PowerMac G5, an iMac G4 and a PowerBook G4. It has not changed with upgrades as far as 10.4.5. I have tried the following suggested in another post about slow Finder actions without success:
    Refreshing and reblessing the following system files and the folder followed by reboot.
    1. /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
    2. /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
    3. /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/
    Trashing the following files and a folder followed by reboot
    1. /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxx.csstore
    2. /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxxxx.csstore
    3. /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/
    I have also deleted the /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file and rebooted.
    Does anyone else have this problem and how do I solve it?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Thank you Roger - this does seem to have solved the problem - my local Apple service people did not have an answer on this, so I'm grateful

  • New iMac very slow? why?

    Hi,
    I have recently bought brand new iMac 21,5" 2,7 Ghz i5 with 8GB ram and 1 TB memory. I have transfered all data from Time Machine backup. And my computer is very very slow with apps, expecialy when it wakes up from sleep. I turn on safari, illustrator and photoshop and it takes 10 minutes to became normal. If I open mail it is very very slow. Also, twitter app. I don't know where the problem is. It is brand new computer. It has all the power. I have checked "verify disk" and everything is ok. I have repaired all permissions, and still nothing. iPhoto is extremely slow but its just iPhoto, very bad program.
    But after 5-10 minutes after wakeup iMac starts to behave normal. When Photoshop is turned on (after 5-10 min) it starts to act normal. Sometimes excel doesn't won't to turn on. Mouse icon turns rainbow circle and nothing. I force quit it and start again and after 2-3 minutes it opens.
    Does anybody have an idea what should i do?

    Thank you. Here are info:

  • New Firefox Very Slow Bookmarks all gone restore not working Can I get them back?

    Woke up today to new firefox update installed. Now Firefox VERY slow & all of my Bookmarks are gone as well as Bookmarks Toolbar empty. IE runs fast like usual, but Firefox barely loading.
    Tried Restore from available dates, but all come back unable to process.

    Some of you will want to shoot me; Mozilla may yank this reply. BUT I had the same problem for about a week, struggled in vain, poured over the help section and got 3 replies to my posted question. Nothing, absolutely nothing worked.
    Want to know what solution I finally came up with? '''''CHROME.'''''
    It imported my precious bookmarks from IE and FF. I'm going to uninstall IE now and leave FF as an emergency backup browser which I don't expect to need anymore.

  • New iPhoto Very Slow on Mavericks

    Basic specs:
    - iMac (Late 2011, Dual Thunderbolt)
    - 24GB RAM
    - iPhoto Library at 800GB, 110K photos, ~300 albums over 10 years)
    - New photos shot with Canon 6D (RAW + JPEG). Ave file size for RAW ~16MB, JPEG 4MB.
    Symptoms:
    - iPhoto 11 worked incredibly well.  Would shoot a few hundred shots, import, then run through and tag / flag
    - Upgraded to Mavericks.  No issues with old iPhoto.
    - New iPhoto installed, now rendering of iPhoto thumbnails takes 30-60s to resolve when opening album
    - Arrow keying through photos in album takes 20-30 seconds per photo.  Impossibly slow.
    Any clues on what might be happening?

    Just posting to close this out.  I had left iPhoto up and running on my machine all day (12+ hours).
    Interesting - it's now very fast. The disk access has stopped, and I can browse / edit / tag photos extremely quickly.
    The only two things I did:
    - Last night I opened my iPhoto Library in Aperture, browsed an album to verify the problem was NOT in Aperture / the library.
    - Reopened in iPhoto, left it open
    My best guesses now:
    - There is some background task (updating every thumbnail, updating facial tagging/guessing) that was running through 800GB of photos in the background.  Once complete, the app is responsive.
    - iPhoto knows when you complain about it on apple.com and that puts it on good behavior.
    Not sure, but glad it's working again.

  • Creation of new OracleConnection VERY SLOW in VS2008

    Hi all,
    I've only found one other post regarding this issue with the latest version of the oracle data provider (2.111.6.20) on the Oracle Developer Tools for VS Forum (at: Re: Need help troubleshooting extremely slow ODT speeds in VS 2005. Figured I'd post it here to see if anyone else is experiencing problems.
    I've got VS2008 with the latest release of ODAC/Developer tools for VS installed and when I try to just create a connection object (i.e. OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection()), it is taking upwards of 45 seconds to create. Obviously this is unsuitable. Is this a known bug? If so, do I need to revert back to older version of OracleDataAccess assembly as stated in the aforementioned post?
    I'm really looking for a solution with this version however, as I'm trying to work with some UDTs in Oracle and converting to custom types in .NET and from what I've read, this latest version is the only one that can do so. (correct me if I'm wrong).
    Any information is appreciated!

    Hi Greg. Indeed, it is the constructor, which seemed very strange to me. But, here's my latest developments... Guess I failed to mention what platforms I was running on, which I'm pretty sure probably had something to do with it. I had a development environment on both a Vista 64-bit, and a Windows Server 2008 (both VMWare virtual machines). Each had two oracle clients installed, both 11g (instant) and 10gR2 (full), as I needed the 10g client for Quest Code tester (entirely different issue!). Anyway, I'm fairly certain that neither of those platforms are officially supported, so most likely my fault.
    I didn't run your test, but I had something similar set up as follows:
    using System;
    using Oracle.DataAccess.Client;
    using System.Diagnostics;
    namespace oratest
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    Stopwatch sw = new Stopwatch();
    sw.Start();
    OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection();
    sw.Stop();
    TimeSpan ts = sw.Elapsed;
    Console.WriteLine(ts.Seconds.ToString());
    The results printed ranged from 20-45 seconds!!!
    So, I went ahead and created exactly the same setup on a Vista 32-bit virtual machine. Ran the same test and voila, 0 seconds. If your interested, I ran with the ts.Milliseconds.ToString() in the last line and it resulted in 611 milliseconds. So, I've moved my current project development environment to the new Vista 32-bit virtual machine and it seems to be working fine.
    Just as a side bar however, I've also been doing quite a bit of development on a real (non-virtual) 64-bit Vista machine, and the new ODP has been working just fine. But, I have only the 11g client installed on that machine. Could it be confusion between the multiple versions? Platform issues? Both? Don't know myself, but am content enough to work in my new environment.
    Cheers,
    Aaron

  • New systemdisk = very slow boot-up

    Hi everyone
    I have just installed a new Seagate harddrive as my systemdisc on a Powermac G5(the late 2005 IBM model)
    Model: Power Mac G5 Quad
    Model-id: PowerMac11,2
    Processor: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Processorhastighed: 2.5 GHz
    Antal CPU'er: 4
    L2-buffer (pr. CPU): 1 MB
    Hukommelse: 2,5 GB
    Bushastighed: 1.25 GHz
    Boot ROM-version: 5.2.7f1
    The new disk is a:
    Seagate Barracuda 7200:
    ST3250410AS:
    Kapacitet: 232,89 GB

    Aktiveringspunkt: /
    The jumper on the new disk is removed like this image here:
    http://www.seagate.com/images/support/en/us/cudasatablock.gif
    Problem!
    It takes about 40 seconds from pressing the powerbutton to the Applelogo appeares on the screen. And the full boot-up to my user log-in takes 1 min. and 30 seconds... that is a very long time!!! (compared to other, and smaller machines)
    The system is 10.5.1, installed on a clean and brand new HD.
    The Hardware test from the orig. system disk, shows NO sign of hardware problems, (a very long hardwaretest about 1 hour and 40 min b.t.w)
    I have tryed to remove the optional ram, same problem
    A "Bench" test on the hole machine gives good a result compared to another smaller G5, but the new Harddrive has a very bad performance, only around 20% of the other machine in the compared test.
    Does the slow start up, got anything to do withe the new hardrive...
    or do I have two problems on my G5??
    Hope you can help???

  • My MacBook Pro is brand new but very slow. So disappointing. Why is it starting very slowly?

    My Macbook Pro 13' is brand new however, it does not serve me well compared to my old compaq laptop. It is so annoying and disppointing. I am also a new user of Mac than Windows. There's something going on especially when I am to start up my Mac, it takes so long. Very embarrasing even. Plus, I thought of adding a mcaffee anti-virus thinking it will solve any problem but it gotten worse. Nothing so disppointing like Macbook PRO! can't even uninstall completely the anti-virus. Can someone please assist a beginner in Mac like me? Thank you.
