Slow typing response

The response time for typing is very slow. I tried online and desktop application, but still there is a uncomfortable delay of displaying the typed letters. I am working on a Acer Netbook, Windows 7, 1 GB Ram.
Thanks for help,
Carsten

Hmm well with 1.25gb something is definitely up.
From the top of my head
a) Belt and braces, take the ram cover off and make sure both chips are firmly seated - I know the system profiler shows them, but you never know!
b) Ensure your disk is not close to full
c) if you have lots of icons on the desktop, consolidate them into one folder on the desktop to reduce the total number of icons.
d) Run activity monitor - check cpu usage and memory usage under normal conditions and immediately when the problem occurs - make sure you show all processes - it could be a process taking up all the resources.
e) There was an issue related to "kernel task" and 10.4.3 and having more than 1gb that was supposedly fixed in a recent update - it transpires that "kernel task" is trackpad related - so if this is showing at more than 5-6% of cpu then this could be the problem - are you comepletely up to date OS X wise? you could try running on just the 1gb alone and see if it continues. Also, does the problem still occur with Airport running?
Thats the best I can do for the moment - I hope it helps.
PS - I notice you are running 10.4.1 - I'd suggest updating to 10.4.3 to see if that fixes the problem. Have you considered a clean install?

  • PowerPoint 2010 - slow typing response

I've tried several things that have been suggested - turning off spell check as you type did nothing. Seems the problem is related to opening existing files - don't have this slowness issue when I open PPT and start a new presentation.

The problem is POOR coding by the Microsoft Office Developers.
I know the exact issue here and why some have no problems on new presentations but later they are bad. This is not a printer driver issue. This is not because you are editing existing files. This is not a backgrounds issue - this is an issue with the preview
    thumbnail pane.
I don't know what it is actually called but it is the little pane on the left side that shows you the thumbnail view of all of your slides. If you close this pane then you will have slow keyboard response. If you have it open then everything works fine.
This was not a problem in previous versions of PowerPoint so this is clearly some stupid enhancement the idiot developers caused in the new version.
Again, open and keep open the preview/thumbnail view of slides and you will be able to type fast, without a delay. If you hide it, then you will have slow performance. This is why people don't see the problem on new presentations because that typically opens
with the thumbnail pane open and so it looks like you are typing fine. But then when people use existing presentations where most people hide that thumbnail panel, it looks like you have slow performance.
I can't find anywhere on Micro$ucks site on how to tell them to fix this so this is the only place I can post. They are total idiots that don't every check their products before they roll them out so I'm not surprised by this. The quality control is awful.
Try making a graphics slide that has a bunch of lines/text/shapes/etc and then do a select all and group it and then try to copy/paste that selection to another slide and you will sometimes see the text all messed up, or lines out-of-place. This was not an
issue in previous PowerPoints but 2010 screwed up a lot of stuff and stuff that should have easily been checked by beta testers because they are fundamental to the product. PATHETIC.

  • New folder, very slow typing response

Just bought my 2nd 13" mb pro from the apple store, had them install an addition 2g memory before I took it home and ever since I opened the package a couple weird things are happening.
    1) In entourage, when I goto make a new sub-folder below my INBOX I type in the name of the folder and the type is very very slow, never keeps up and it jumbles the words in the wrong positions. Eg. I type FITNESS on the keyboard, and it comes up NIFITESS and is very slow doing that. Whats the deal? New laptop, original and registered office installed. (almost like it has low memory)
    2) The system sometimes will hang for 5-10 seconds doing normal tasks, always comes back but it acts like it has memory issues
    Any help?

I am going to take her in tomorrow, since its new there is no reason why I shouldn't. The PRAM reset "seems" to have fixed the issue. Just not sure why I would have to reset that on a brand new machine 2 hours after it was turned on for the first time, makes me think something else is brewing in there.

  • Since upgrading to ver 8 headers and footers on printing web pages do not print; typing response is terrible, type 20-30 char before seeing them; my PC or Firefox 8?

If I do an end task on plugin_container using Windows task manager, the typing response problem seems to go away temporarily. However, the plugin_container process soon restarts itself and the typing issue returns. It has happened four or five times while typing this note. Sometimes I start typing and the display of characters typed does not appear or while typing an displaying what is typed normally all of a sudden stops being displayed and eventually is displayed all in a blast of characters.
When I try to print a web page, the header and footer info that I have selected show in the print preview but disappears when I print the page and does not print on the hard copy.
I believe that both of the above situations began when I upgraded to Firefox version 8.
I tried to search for problems like the above with Firefox but could find nothing.
I tried all of the above in IE and IE works as it has in the past.
Is this a Firefox issue with version 8 or is there something wrong with my PC all of a sudden?

    Response to cor-el suggestions:
I tried what you suggested as far as checking the theme (it's "Default 8.0") and deleting the sessionstore files (there was one .js file, one -1.js file and one .bak file). I still have the same slow response problems (especially typing, it has gone dead on me for a short time twice while typing this replay so far, now a third time) and lost of headers and trailers and some data.
I did the suggested actions three times just to make sure that I was doing them correctly. On the first try, the sessionstore.js and sessionstore-1.js was more than twice the size of sessionstore.bak. Since doing what was suggested, the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak are, I believe, the same size. I did not write down their size is why I am not certain.
The printing problem appears to only be with one website which is an investment website which I would prefer not to document here. I print from this website each weekday and I have confirmed that the printing problem started when the upgrade to version 8.0 occurred.
I need a solution to this or I am going to either go back to IE (Ugh!) or find another browser. The typing delays are an extreme annoyance since I do lots on the Internet including a lot of emailing. The delays also involve the buttons to select functions within a website.
Is there a way to get back to the version previous to version 8.0?

After upgrading from acrobat 9.5 to XI pro my users have complained on slow typing when filling in form that were created in version 9.5?
The issue is they type but there is 2 second delay when it appears in the field.
    Windows 7 64bit

I see, I misread your reference to Reader 11 to mean you were using Acrobat 11, but it looks like it worked out anyway.
The base-14 fonts are special in PDF because they are guaranteed to be available even if they are not embedded. If you select a non-base-14 font for use with a form field, the entire font usually gets embedded, since each glyph it contains has to be available for use with the field. This can take up a lot of space if you do this a lot, and the space isn't reduced if you change back to a base-14 font later because the internal reference to it is not removed. This is caused by the bug I mentioned.
In your case, however, the entire font doesn't get embedded because fonts like it (e.g., large asian fonts with a lot of glyphs, Arial Unicode) would take up too much space if fully embedded. If it did, a 100KB PDF could bloat to 20MB with that one change. Instead, users are expected to have such fonts installed on their system, which is why you were prompted to install the font pack. This despite the fact that the font was not actually used by anything in your document, it was simply the orphaned reference to it that triggered this. This should get fixed in Acrobat eventually so this type of thing doesn't happen again.

  • Slow program response, crashes when creating titles and dynamic link issues

    Dear reader,
I am now trialling Adobe CC OSX with Premiere Pro and After Effects before deciding to subscribe but I am experiencing a lot of issues while working.
I am now working on an animation, but editing raw mxf files also gives crashes and slow responses/ program refreshes.
    1) Slow mouse response
    2) Slow program refresh while key framing visuals
    3) Rendering in PP is extremely slow when AE is open in the background, when closing AE and re-initiate the render in PP it renders super fast
    4) Crashes. When I overlay titles in my time line PP regularly crashes
    5) Dynamic Link issues when working combined in AE and PP where file connections in the time line get lost when the AE project has too many sequences
I am curious to find out if other people are also experiencing these issues.
I am indecisive in getting the paid yearly plan or move to FCPX instead? Or should I get a new MacPro and is this model too old?
It worked fine 2 months ago, however I was still working on FCP7. After updating it is really bad working with it...
    My system consist of:
    MacPro mid-2010
    OSX 10.9.5 (13F34) (new installation)
    2x2,66Ghz 6-core Intel Xeon
    24GB DDR3 ECC
    Nvidia Quadro K5000, 4GB
    2x PCIe SSD 1TB
    2x HDD 3TB
    2x HDD 2TB
Feedback is much appreciated! Best regards, Alexander

this does work for basic colour correction but not when trying to grade an entire suqence to achieve a specific style, applying a vingette or certain effects have to be done in after effects.
I want to try and get my whole sequence into after effects but preserve the edits and effects added in permier pro, is there any way to do this?

  • Information on the "slow typing" issue

I think I've uncovered a (maybe the) cause of the slow typing complaints that's worthy of a new topic. I had severe problems with the trifold brochure, and found that some other templates also were "slow typing" templates. After reading all the posts here, with at least a dozen different fixes, none of which fixed my particular probelm, I started experimenting. What I found was interesting.
All my problems with slow typing (seeing the results of key presses show up on-screen seconds after the event) were traced to one single problem - a table format. When text flowed around a table with its Text Fit choice as "Wrap text to follow a square border", typing was slow. With the Text Fit choice changed to "Wrap text to follow the contour", typing was fast. Seems too simple.
This change made a HUGE difference in the trifold brochure, and a noticeable difference in a couple of the others that I tried. Some tables, especially those with pictures, not text, are disguised and not easy to recognize, so if you're having the notorious "slow typing" problem, look carefully at tables in your document as a possible cause.

I am a scientist who needs to write grants and papers with long text sections and embedded figures. I LOVE the way Pages handles graphics but even with a 12 page document with 3 small tables and 2 figures I am waiting 10-20 seconds for the typing to catch up (doing all the suggestions in these threads)! Together with the fact that there is no direct link to referencing programs like Endnote (which I am forced to use to interact with PC-based colleagues) makes Pages decidedly less useful than the Phantom Menace - MS Word. That beast uses 1/3 the CPU percentage and works faster in general than this lean, mean, Apple product. NOTE TO APPLE: Please please please bring users like me back from the dark side!!

  • Slow typing problem

I am having a problem where the type on the screen in Pages 2 can't keep up with my typing speed. I only type about 40-40 words per minutes. This was not a problem in Pages 1. Help...

    Hello Appraiser,
there are a lot of posts about this issue in this forum. To maximize the respond of Pages is to:
    1) Hide the thumbnail view with the menu: "View/Show(Hide) Thumbnails".
    2) If there are a lot of images, shapes or tables, use the wrap option "follow contour" and not "rectangle" in the bottom section of the wrap inspector.
    3) If there are a lot of images, shapes or tables with the fix positioned oprion set, Pages has to recalculate a lot the text positiones, because there is heavy text flow in long sections. Try to avoid that.
Do a search for "slow typing", there are more advices and suggestions.
    Frank.

  • Slow Typing

I kind of solved this problem, but I would also like to know if there are better solutions.
A couple weeks ago I encountered really slow typing in InDesign. I never figured it out, but eventually it corrected itself. (BTW, exporting to IDML did not correct the problem.) Last night everything was working great with InDesign and a 15 chapter book with several chapters open. However, this morning when I restarted InDesign, it was horribly sluggish with typing (2 seconds per character).
I started by looking for any preferences that could have gotten changed late last night. Then looked through the document for what could vary there too (such as no overset text). The only obvious change since last night was that I didn't have all of the other documents open while working on the current document.
Suspecting it was the cross references, I updated all cross references in the book. This did not correct the problem. I deliberately did not open any other document until after I tried everything else first. As soon as I did open the 2 other chapters that I was linking into, the slow text problem went away. I then closed those two chapters, and the slow text returned. I then opened each of the 2 linked chapter separately, and the slow text remained. It was only when BOTH of the linked chapters were open that the normal typing speed returned.
Right now it is not a big deal because only 2 other chapters are complete enough to link into. However, as this project progresses, there will likely be cross references to many chapters, and it will be more of a pain to have to open all of the documents in order to edit a single document.
Could there be a setting somewhere that is causing ID to constantly update cross references with each key stroke?

This is a known issue with cross-references and opening all the files is the solution. If you don't have them open, ID is opeing and closing them inthe background every time you hit a key.

  • Adobe Premiere CC slow in response

    Hi,
I recently upgarded to Adobe Premiere Pro CC and I notice that it is very slow in response and there is like 10 seconds lag for every step I do. I notice my computer goes up to 30 percent of workload. The problem arises when I am going from one sequence to another sequence, it lags or copy something in a sequence and then it lags. I have been using CC for 4 months and I did not have a problems with CS6. But this really annoys me.
    My computer specs:
    CPU i7-920 3.6gHz OC
    48 GB of RAM @ 1466Mhz
    Quadro K5000 with latest drivers
    5x2TB at RAID 5
250gb OS SSD around 140 free space
    120gb SSD - Around 40 free.
My cache drive was 120gB SSD, even I change the cache drive to RAID5 drives, it doesn't make a difference.
Now, when I export to render to Adobe media encoder, it takes 10sec. It used to take a sec to do that with CS6.
Is there something I could change in the settings that would make premiere pro faster in response?
I am looking forward for your reply.

I am having the same problem!  Interestingly my Sony VAIO Duo 13 Ultrabook is pretty light on it's feet with Premiere but my custom built NLE frequently runs into these problems.
The result is that I can often load a project faster in the ultrabook and some projects I can actually edit faster!!?  The ultrabook has a satisfyingly powerful Corei7 but no serious graphics capabilities to speak of, so rendering is software only and it bogs down a lot when working with compressed formats like AVHCD.  I got it just to use it's Wacom digitizer for Photoshop and Illustrator but on my last video, I got frustrated with my desktop NLE machine and cut it on my tiny laptop.  (Did it in the car on a road trip.  Fun to be able to!  But vastly less than ideal for anything very professional.)
My problem is that Once my desktop NLE is running, it can churn through very complex native editing like a dream.  It's just that every time I need to change what the program is doing, it takes an exceedingly long time to load new components of the program, i.e. bringing up an effects panel or the audio mixer.  My assumption is that once everything the program needs is loaded into ram, there is no problem, but the program is somehow interfering with computers reading and writing to the C: drive where the program is held.  Maybe it is creating is some issue with ram caching to the C: drive that is slowing things down.  After working with Premiere the problem persists and it takes equally long to open other programs.  I had similar problems this summer with the CS6 AVHCD bug in this thread.  This is not as bad, but seems very similar in its manifestation.  There is no longer any connection to any one codec.  Instead, the problem seems to emerge as Premiere has been running for a while.  Or after opening Premiere, closing it and then reopening with out a system restart in between.  A project imported from Final Cut Pro 6 via XML was particularly problematic, but the problem is sporadic so it was hard to tell if it was that or just a couple of bad days.
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
    Here are my specs:
    Windows 8 Pro x64
    Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz
    RAM: 16 GB
    Graphics: GTX 660 ti
    Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO Thunderbolt
    C: drive:  OCZ-Vertex 4  (120GB / 45 free)
D: drive:  Contains Premiere Projects (16TB, RAID 0, 4 SATA3 drives on Intel Rapid Storage Chipset)
    E: drive:  Contains User Folders  (1TB  SATA3)

  • Very Slow Site Response

    Dear All,
I would like to say thanks for all.
Let me explain our environment first then move on to the queries.
Environment: We have one SharePoint 2013 application VM
windows 2012 server, two web front end VM Windows 2012 server and dedicated SQL physical server.  The SP VM has 2*vCPU (2core) and 16 GB of physical memory, DB has 2*CPU (8core) and 16GB of RAM.  All servers are connected via 1 GB connection.  Intranet
is connected via 100 Mb link and for internet via 5Mbps ISP.
    Farm Configuration:
Both front end servers had Managed metadata service and distributed cache service
Application server had CA (basic service) and managed metadata service, there was no excel, Visio and other service.
Site: We are developed custom webpart and all other stuff
like design at all.  The average page size is 1.5Mb.  The site was extended to intranet and internet (anonymous) zones.  We are already configured BLOB cache, object cache and output cache.
    Clarification & Queries:
While we are doing the load test in intranet site by 300 Concurrent user in the LAN (i.e 100 Mbps). It getting very slow and "Service Unavailable" error.  Please, why
the servers are not supporting 300 concurrent users?
While we are performing the test, the network traffics are received from client (test agent) to WFE and send to DB. Please, Why the page cache and object caches are working or not?
If the site will opened to internet, how the site and server are react to users?
Please give us you needful help.

    1) As a rule of thumb a SharePoint server can support in the region of 100 active users per SharePoint server. 300 is within the realm of expectations, depending on test content and definitions of active. You haven't mentioned the CPU load or the amount
of memory paging you're seeing on the servers during the test. I would expect them to be maxed out on one or more of your servers? Note that RAM load isn't directly helpful as SharePoint is a greedy application and may be using all of it at very low load levels.
    2) Caching reduces the traffic but does not eliminate it. You're looking in the wrong place to see if the page cache is active. From memory you need to examine HTTP headers to verify if page caching is active or not.
    3) In what sense?
    4) No problem.
The link you posted is broken.
Finally you describe this in the title as 'very slow site response' which is not what you're describing in the text (fairly well) which is better described as a lower than hoped level of concurrency. Are you also getting slow response times at lower load?
Really finally: You've posted this in the wrong forum, this is a search specialist sub forum. You would get more notice and assistance in the general forum for this thread. Hopefully a moderator can move it for you...
