New iMac, few issues

Hello All.
I've just purchased a new iMac and I'm having a few issues with it, I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can fix them, I've tried doing all of the latest software updates but the issues still prevail.
1) CMD+TAB
When I use CMD+TAB about 70% of the time, the Application Switcher doesn't show, but it switches Applications successfully.
When the Application Switcher does show; half of the time only some of the Applications I have open are visible, if I CMD+TAB again straight after a different random selection of Applications are shown.
2) Quick Look.
If I use space to quicklook in the Finder, I can never close the window, neither the X icon or hitting space again will close it.
3) Displays Control Panel.
Won't open, the title bar says 'Loading Displays..' but it just freezes.
4) Photoshop CS5
Very unstable (have updated to newest version).
5) Random finder stuff
Sometimes Finder windows just go white, completely blank, I can still drag them around and right click them and the correct contextual menu comes up for that part of the window but it is still white.
There are lots of other things too, these are the most annoying so I've kept it to the most annoying, especially the CTRL+TAB thing.

You can take it to any Authorized Apple Service center. But if you have an actual Apple Store handy, that would be far preferable.

  • New iMac: Screen Issues and Noisy Hard Drive

    Hello,
I'm writing regarding my new 27" iMac which I purchased just under a week ago (spec: 3.1GHz Intel Core i5, 1TB HDD, 4GB RAM).
When I got my iMac home and unboxed it, all was fine, however once I had began to install some applications and use them, I noticed an unusual issue with the screen. I had a Skype window open on the left hand side of my screen, with an ongoing chat, Obviously, the chat 'stream' was moving, but the menu items on the far left remained the same. The iMac had been on for about 10mins, with the Skype window open for the same duration. After which, I opened iPhoto, and made it full screen, filling my screen with a dark grey background. I could still see the outline of the text from my Skype window through the iPhoto window. Thinking the window may have been semi-transparent, I closed the Skype window, however when I re-fullscreened iPhoto, the test was still there, as if it was burnt into the screen.
I understand the concept of screen burn, but surely this shouldn't happen after just 10mins? It's nothing permanent, as it fades away again within another 5mins or so, but it is annoying knowing that I can't leave a window open for very long without worrying I will have text burnt into my screen for a period of time. As a graphic designer, I could be working on images that are dark, and likewise, I don't want to see remains of my chat or emails over the top of my design work.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is this an issue that can be repaired by myself (eg. installing a firmware update, although I have all the latest updates from Software Update)? Or should I just return my iMac to the store and get them to look at it? I'm worried that if I take it back, they may fail to see the issue, as the lighing is a lot different in the store to at home.
The other issue I am experiencing is I have a very noisy hard drive, that seems to click and make a grumbling noise rather a lot. Obviously at times when the computer is working hard, this is to be expected (I think), although most of the time it is grumbling away whilst I'm just browsing in Safari with one tab open.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, taken it back and has a successful replacement? I've read that it could be to do with Mac OS X Lion, because people have reported that their hard drive ran silently on Snow Leopard but has got noisier with Lion. Should I wait for a Lion update before returning it? Other than the issues above, everything is fine.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to someone being able to shine some light on my issues.

    Thanks for the advice.
Today, I returned my iMac to the Apple Premium Resellers where I purchased it. The helpful chap there looked at my screen and acknowledged the issue, before giving me a brand new iMac.
My previous model came with Snow Leopard pre-installed, which I upgraded to Lion. This new, second iMac is a relatively new one as it has Lion pre-installed. Feeling hopeful, I've just arrived home and unpackaged my new computer.
The result? EXACTLY the same issue. My Twitter window on the far left of my display has been open for no longer than about 7 or 8 mins, and I can clearly see the display pictures from my follwees burnt into the screen when I full screen a dark app like Snow Leopard.
I'm wondering whether this is a Lion issue? Should I wait for a software update before returning it again? It's not something that's going to be annoying on a day-to-day basis, but now that I know it's doing it, I can't help but keep checking when I open iPhoto.
PEOPLE WITH NEW 27" iMAC's: Would you please perform the following test for me and let me know the results?
    1. Open up a white backgrounded application, such as Twitter, Skype, or Safari.
    2. Leave it on screen (anywhere, but far left seems to be worst) for about 5 to 10mins.
    3. Open up iPhoto with it's grey full screen background, or set your wallpaper to a flat colour dark grey.
    4. Now minimise the white backgrounded windows, and switch to a grey background with no windows in front of it.
    5. Look carefully at your screen: can you still see an outline of/text from the window in the position that it was, like it's burnt into the screen?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can perform this for me.

  • IWeb 3.04 with OS 10.8.2 on new iMac. Issues with saving.

Sometimes changes save, sometimes they don't. Using Domain Cracker to open desired domain.sites2 files saved in the documents folder. Could that script be the source of the problem?
Back story is that we have a fairly large site developed on iWeb 1.x on an old 2006 MacBook running Tiger (10.4?). Hard drive crash resulted in new HD, installed box set Snow Leopard 10.6 and iWeb 3.0.4.  Then acquired a new iMac with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, installed the iWeb 3.0.4, copied the converted domain.sites2 files over. Made extensive changes, saved frequently, quit iWeb, the next day all changes area lost. Then tried experimenting with simple minor changes, save quit, relaunch, changes are saved properly. Try again, simple text edit, save, quit, relaunch, changes are lost. Sometimes the changes save, sometimes they don't.
Who knows the definitive answer on iWeb 3.0.4 running on a new iMac under OS 10.8.2 on a new latest model iMac? Is Domain Craker a potential source of the problem?

On the one hand you say you are using iWeb V 3.0.4 but at the bottom of your posr mention iWeb '08.
iWeb '08 (V2) causes problems with saving when using Mountain Lion.
Domain Cracker is just a script that allows you to choose a domain file to open in iWeb. It doesn't have anything to do with the running (or not) of iWeb.

  • Powerpoint on a new iMac-- memory issue

Using 2004 Office/Powerpoint on a new iMac with 8GB RAM...continue to get 'not enough memory' message when trying to make a large Powerpoint file...so far, 200 pp of photos, with 100 to go.  Why?  Solution?

Office 2004 will not run on a new iMac. Only Office 2008 or 2011 will run under on a new iMac.
Yes, you may be running out of RAM. Launch Activity Montior and see how much free memory is available.
What resolution are the photos? It's wise to reduce the photo resolution to a more manageable size by exporting them from iPhoto before creating a Powerpoint slideshow.

  • For anyone with newer imac fan issues.

I posted about a week ago asking for advice on my fan issue.
I was getting istat readings of 2500 - 3000 - 3500 (max has been 3850) rpms from nothing more than being on the internet. The computer is 2 months old and prior to having the computer worked on for an unrelated issue I had never once heard the fans kick on.
But now my computer sounds like an airplane trying to take off - all the time.
So, with another visit to the apple store, support-line calls and a visit to an outside apple authorized service provider - I am here to tell anyone in the same boat, that having your fans blow LOUDLY, and ALL the time is perfectly "within spec."
I'm using it right now. Only safari is open and it sounds like monsoon season with a nice consistent rpm of 2700.
I am certainly frustrated but did want to share this follow up with anyone that's discouraged with their fans since I know when I first ran into the issue I scoured the forums for info.
Are they loud - you betcha!
Are they annoying - **** right!
Do they interfere with music and video - oh boy do they!
Does it sound like they computer is deathly ill - absolutely!
Is it all 'within spec' - yes, sadly it is.
I don't see anything else I can do at this point.

    @den.thed
I actually have that app. already. Its where Ive been getting all my crazy fan readings from.
The temp sensors I havent paid attention to though - which are the temp. sensors and what is abnormal?
Last time I took the computer into the mac genius(the 3rd time) - they just told me everything was fine and didnt even look at it! Then I was told by Apple Support to go to an outside service provider who also said there wasnt a problem. I had 50 screenshots of the fan at 3000+ speeds and they didnt seem concerned.
Overall I guess what im getting at is - even if it appears that there's a problem I dont even know what I can say to these people anymore!!! No matter what I say, Im told that the computer is fine. Its by far the most frustrating product/purchase problem Ive ever dealt with.
thanks for help so far though.
Anyone know how much I can recoup by parting the thing out?

  • Multiple Issues with iTunes on New iMac

    Hello Apple Community,
I recently bought a 27" iMac with 3.1Ghz i5 processor running on Snow Leopard and finally set it up.  I have owned many Macs in the past and currently have been using a 5 year old 15" MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard that has been running flawlessly but I needed something with a bit more processing power.  When I first took my iMac out of the box I went ahead and used the Migration Assistant to move my applications and files over from my MacBook Pro but after multiple attempts I had to stop and simply move the music, document, and photo data on to a portable hard drive while I got the Migration Assistant to move the applications.  I simply moved the old iTunes music folder over to my new iMac and replaced the iTunes folder on my iMac.  The new iMac has already been authorized through my iTunes account and the music will play.  Now here are my current issues.
When I play a song on iTunes, there appears to be a random amount of fade-in and/or crossfade when I switch playing songs.  I have checked the playback preferences and crossfade is not checked.  Some songs the crossfade will take a second while sometimes it will be as much as 10 seconds of crossfade.  On my MacBook with the identical library and settings, it does not have these issues.
The other issue I have been experiencing is if iTunes has been open and my computer sits for a little while (usually after awaking from sleep or even listening to a few songs without touching the keyboard, the songs will stop playing on their own and when I press the play button, it begins to "play" the track but there is no sound coming from iTunes.  I have checked the volume slider in iTunes and it is still at max volume while all other applications still work and output sound.  iTunes will only work properly if I close it and re-open it.
The final issue is similar to the last one in that when I try and play previews in the iTunes Music store it will not play but when I hit the play button iTunes will then appear to be "playing" but no sound from either the store or any of my songs from the Library.
iTunes works perfectly fine on my MacBook Pro and it does have any of these issues.  Both Macs are currently running iTunes 10.4.1.  All songs in each library are checked and will play to a degree.
I have deleted iTunes and all corresponding library files, (basically anything with iTunes in the name) and tried to reinstall iTunes and used multiple methods to replace the music files including using Home Sharing, a portable Hard Drive, and dragging and dropping the music files from the shared folder and no matter what I try, I still cannot get iTunes on my iMac to work properly.  I have been searching around the support forums for others who might have had this issue but I cannot seem to find much.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had not tried that before, but from your suggestion, I went ahead and did it and it seems to have gotten rid of the crossfade issues I was experiencing but whenever I try and listen to a preview in the iTunes music store it still does not appear to be working.  Also, I was testing a number of tracks and it seems like there are a few tracks in particular that will make iTunes stop playing when I click on them and then if I attempt to play something else, iTunes says it is playing but no sound is coming from it.
What I have found that is interesting is the first time I ran the Disk Utility it repaired a HUGE number of misc. files.  After running it and still experiencing problems I tried to run it again but this time the files were not as numerous and were all within the /Library/CoreServices menu.  Each subsequent time I ran the Disk Utility and rebooted, I tried to run the Disk Utility again and the same files seem to still be having the same issues.  This is just an example of one of the files I have been having an issue with.
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/zh_TW.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib" , should be drwxr-xr-x , they are -rwxr-xr-x .
    Repaired "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/zh_TW.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib" .
One in particular gave me a Warning and said it could not be repaired.  I'm not sure if it is important to repair but I still seem to be having some issues here and there.  Here is the message from the Disk Utility regarding the file in question.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

  • I am wondering what is the best way to merge a very large iphoto library (from my MBP) to my new iMac (which has a few hundred photos on it now), and then upgrade to Aperture?

I have about 50GB of photos on my old MBP iphoto library.
I have a new iMac with a few hundred photos that I've uploaded since I bought it last December.
The iMac is where I want to keep everything stored as my main photo library, and manage it with a new Aperture installation.
Before I go and do this, and possibly muck it all up,
I would like to figure out the proper steps.
I am not too familiar with how to transfer files in the first place, so any help for a beginner would be much appreciated.
Starting from how to safely move the files from the MBP to the iMac, if anyone could walk me through this process.
I've been searching around but I have a specific goal (with getting everything into Aperture) so I don't want to get crossed up.
    Thanks for your help!!

I have about 50GB of photos on my old MBP iphoto library.
To be able to merge your libraries, your Aperture version and iPhoto version must match. For basic reading see: Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
and Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries
Assuming you are running the latest Aperture and iPhoto versions:
Before merging libraries ensure that your iPhoto Library has no issues. While still on your old mac run the "library first aid tools" on your iPhoto Library. Hold down the key combination ⌥⌘ and double click your iPhoto Library, then select "Repair database".
Make sure you have a backup of your current Aperture Library and iPhoto library.
Do both macs have a FireWire port? Then you could connect your macs in Target Disk Mode:
See OS X Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
This way your new mac could see your old mac as an external disk and you could copy directly between the macs.
Otherwise copy your iPhoto library by drag-and-drop to an external disk (on your old mac) and connect that disk to your new mac. Check, if the external drive is formatted for mac (MacOS X Extended (Journaled)). Otherwise reformat it, before you copy the iPhoto library to that drive.
When your iPhoto Library has been moved to your new Mac launch Aperture and use the command "File > Import > Library" from the main menu bar. If there are duplicates in the Aperture library (if you imported earlier from iPhoto) you may be prompted if you want to "Add" or "Merge". If you have lots of duplicates, pick "Merge", otherwise "Add".
Post back, if you need more detailed instructions.
    Good Luck.

  • Can't install CS3 Upgrade on NEW iMac 24". An Imac DVD drive issue?

My CS3 Design Premium Upgrade CD fails to install Photoshop on my BRAND NEW iMac yet it is able to install everything else on the CS3 disc. I just bought this iMac yesterday and CS2/CS3 Upgrade are the FIRST things I installed (besides updates) when I turned it on. I'm still using 10.4.10.
I searched through the Adobe forums and the internet as to how others with the same issue have dealt with the problem, but it seems the most common reason is that people had installed Photoshop CS3 beta previously as well as older Flash/Acrobat plug-ins conflicting with the installation process. Further, these causes seem to be effecting Windows users.
So a few hours ago I tried to COPY the upgrade CD contents to my hard disk, I get the message:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in 'AdobePhotoshop 10en_US.dmg' could not be read or written. (Error code -36)."
This procedure of copying to the disk (and the resulting error message) is SPECIFICALLY addressed in the Adobe support pages TechNotes:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401429&sliceId=2
The page says that it may be a drive issue that is causing the problem. Of the 7 possible solutions given on the page, I've narrowed it down to only 1 option left (but I can't try it since I don't have another Mac!):
"*Solution 4*: Copy the software to the hard drive of a different computer.
*If the software copies successfully, the model of DVD drive on your original computer might not be able to read the DVD. Contact the DVD drive or computer manufacturer for any updates that might be available.*"
But what's funny (or annoying rather) is, I had a 20" Alum 2.4 iMac earlier this year (returned because of screen problem), and the CS3 upgrade installed without any problems on it!..??? And according to the iMac specs, the 20" and 24" models both have the same DVD drive make right?
Any ideas??? Are there other 24" iMac users who are experiencing similar problems? If not, then I guess I may have to return yet another iMac...which I'm reluctant to do since this screen is PERFECT! I'm scared to get another iMac with the dreaded screen gradient issue.

    I just solved the problem.
I tried copying the DVD files to the hard disk about 7-8 more times. The last try SUCCESSFULLY copied to the disk and I was able to install Photoshop CS3.
    Yay.

  • Help! pc to new iMac - HDD not 'seen' on pc... ethernet cable issue too!

    Hi all
I just got my new iMac a few days ago and I've tried the ethernet cable and my mac can see the folders on the pc but wont open them! (the original item cannot be found)
my ethernet cable isn't linked to the mac now but I can still see my computer in finder... both have the wireless going.. how do I 'choose' the ethernet cable.. maybe that's why it's not working?
I've now got a western digital Studio edition 500mb external harddrive - I've plugged that into the mac and all is well... I was hoping I could then plug it into the pc and drag all the files over (65gigs) and then I can transfer them to the mac.
I've used the usb cable on the pc (doesn't have firewire) and the pc does nothing!
I can't see it and I've tried clicking on the removable disc drives but it says there's nothing connected.
I know that the HDD is formatted for macs but if I format it for pcs then will I have the issue of transferring the files to the mac after?
I'm totally confused and this is driving me nuts!
the only other option I have left is to burn billions of dvds with my images and music. sob I really don't want to do that!
I would like to be able to sync my ipod and iphone to the mac and not qet my music wiped! and to get my old crappy pc off my desk.
someone heeeeeeellllllpppp please... will be very happy to get this sorted! my poor little old brain is fried!

    Thank you!
I literally just got the same info from a friend (he was away for most of the weekend) and I'm now in the process of copying the pc stuff onto the hard drive (after formatting)
transferred one pic and tried transferring it the mac and it worked... YAY!
so now back to transferring everything from the pc to the HDD now... gonna take a while but at least now I'm on the way off getting rid of the pc
Thanks for your help and response.
    (very relieved!)

  • Screen on 20" Imac...a few issues

    Hi,
I see a number of notes about screen issues on 20" new intel iMac...I've had few issues so thought I start a new thread...First, I had the buzzing when brightness was all or most all the way up...Brought it into a authorized Mac repair place and they replaced the video (inverter or card or?)as well as the screen...not sure why they replaced the screen honestly...Now I've noticed a few new issues. I first noticed that my desktop background was visible, a little dimmer but visible, on the top apple bar that should be just white with black menu items...And I have also noticed some rainbow color effects on some black type that really is disturbing as I do a lot of Word processing, depending on the angle this is better or worse or the black type appears a little blurred on some letters...Since then, I've read about 'gradient' problems and many complaints with the 20" monitors...I didn't take any notice of gradient issues, but now have looked a little closer and do notice big color changes if I am looking at screen from slight off center angles--where white goes to blue (up and down) or white goes to brown. (right and left). So after owning many macs over the past 15 years, I've never been disappointed with a screen, but surely am now...I have a mac mini with an inexpensive 19" lcd screen (Princeton brand) that doesn't have any such color changes at all...I was too late to call Apple tonight but will in the morning...Wonder if any folks have any suggestions/ideas...Honest, I'm curious if I can return or get a trade on this if the problem is widespread....Will Apple take a return...and is it better to bring to Apple Store, or to mail to Apple...I had brought it to a local reseller as the nearest Apple store is over an hour away...Thanks for any guidance.

Hello rickame, I've got the fix for your issue with the Menu Bar, goto System Preferences then Desktop & Screen Saver, at the bottom you will see a checkbox for Translucent Menu Bar, unclick it and you will have a solid Bar. Sorry but I dont have a fix for the Screen gradient problem, I have the 20" iMac and love the display myself (coming from a 15" dell display, you can see where I'm coming from).
    Hope this helps, Steve...

  • CS6 New iMac non-recognized plug-ins issue.

I have a brand new iMac and when I started using CS6 (transferred from my time machine back up), it was fine for a few days until inDesign started telling me various plugi-ins were not recognized. I had to uninstall, then re-install and it seemed fine for a few days, then started to give me the same non-recognized plu-ins error messages again. What gives? Any suggestions? Think it could be a Mountain Lion issue not an Adobe issue?

What else did you migrate over? There's no telling what you danaged that way.
That said, can you post screenshots of the error messages? Something might just stand out that would let us help you.

  • Sandy Bridge processors in new iMacs issues.

    Hello
Does anyone know if any of the faulty Sandy Bridge processors which were produced at the start of the year made it into this iMac refresh? Or did Apple wait until the updated versions were produced before using them in their macs? By updated versions I mean the completely non faulty new versions of the chips not the ones that went back to intel and they just patched them up before sending them back out to vendors.
I am in the market for a 27" i7 iMac upgrade but this is the only issue stopping me from buying one straight away. I was thinking of leaving it a few weeks for the initial stock which may contain these faulty chips to sell through then hopefully get an iMac from a newer batch.

I'm sure it's pretty safe to say there are no issues with the current crop of Sandy Bridge procs in the 2011 refresh. Apple would make sure they'd cleared up any problems before rolling out the new iMacs, and If I recall correctly, Intel resumed shipping the corrected chips back in mid February. You should be fine.

  • Yes... There are issues with the new iMac, early adopters baby!

Hi, I am a new iMac owner.
Being a network engineer and having worked for the "devil" himself, let me tell you... I would rather be dealing with the tiny glitches with the new iMac than owning a Dell, Toshiba, HP but most importantly running Vista!
This is a new machine with new HW and drivers. I enjoy trying the latest and the greatest. I realize there will be hurdles to overcome with any new product, but come one people! Let's stop whining, and help everyone out here. We are all here to provide constructive feedback to Apple while helping everyone out.
    Yes there Display issues.
    Yes there are Keyboard issues.
Yes there are WoW issue and UT as well.
    Target disk issues.. Yes
    Lock ups.. sure!
My suggestion... If you think you are better off with a PC and Vista, well go to it mate!
Sorry for the ramble, but I just got tired of all the whiners thinking that buying an iMac was their solution to never having issues by leaving the PC world, or should I say MSWorld... LOL

I think few, if any people claimed they were going to ditch their new iMac for a PC. I like Macs, but I don't love them like I used to.
Half the reason people buy them, is because they think they can rely on Macs more. They are supposed to be stable, fuss free and easy to use. And they still are for the most part.
But these new iMacs make a complete mockery of that because they don't represent very well what Apple stands for. "If" I bought a PC I would honestly expect some problems here & there. Its just part and parcel of the PC package. And although I don't expect Macs to be 100% perfect 100% of the time, I certainly expect better than this diabolical shambles that is the new iMac.
Just as an example.. My 4 year old G4 powerbook.. Not 100% problem free, granted. But mighty close. However, it has not crashed once the entire time I have had it. My new iMac however, crashed 4 times yesterday alone, and it didn't even get used as much as my old powerbook.
Maybe now you get the picture a little better?
Just my 2 kernel panics worth...

  • Severe issues with new iMac. Do I need firmware update?

I purchased a new iMac at the end of September 2007. It still had Tiger on it and ran fine. I upgraded to Leopard at it's release and have had some problems ever since BUT THEY ARE GETTING WORSE.
I did a complete erase and install this past weekend but problems remain. I have to do a force shutdown with the power button sometimes and then things run slowly. I use Disk Warrior and rebuild the drive and also repair permissions and things seem to run fine for awhile. THEN the problems start again.
I know there is to be a Leopard update soon. Should I wait and see if that solves the issues? I also know there was a firmware update for the new iMac in the fall. When I did my erase and re-install this past weekend, I didn't do that update UNLESS it's already in the 10.5.1 update. Should I do it now?
I also recently got a LaCie 250 gig firewire hard drive. Sometimes it does not mount; but I've ran Disk Warrior and repaired permission on it also and no errors are reported. (I also have a 60 gb FireLite. It did not mount once; but mostly it's the LaCie that fails to mount ... but not always. 75% of the time it mounts fine.)
I just don't know what the problem is. I am very frustrated. I have NEVER had trouble like this with a Mac in all the years I've had one. I know one things for sure. I will NEVER again buy a new machine or operating system until they've been out at least six months
Any knowledgeable suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks so much.

My problems are: 1)Sometimies when I try to restart the computer, I get either a spinning beach ball or a blue screen and nothing else. OR sometimes it does re-start but keeps the other spinning circular thingie going. In either case, I have to push the power button for a few secons causing it to shut down hard. On the other hand, sometimes it behaves normally.
Other problems include slowness, such as finder windows opening very slowly or files showing up in finder windows very slowly.
I don't notice that this happens with any particular program. It seems sporadic. Sometimes the computer runs fine and then all of a sudden, the issues reappear.
I have used Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, repaired permission, etc. All the programs report that the discs are fine (the internal disc, the LaCie drive and the FireLite drive.) I did a complete erase and re-install. I have not used a hardware test disc. (I suppose there is one with the original restore discs; but I am using Leopard now so I'm not sure how that works. That was Tiger.)
I have suspected a lot of things. I stopped iDisk automatic mounting & syncing. I stopped syncing altogther. I've turned off Spaces and Time Machine. I don't let any programs load automatically except the bare minimum. I'm just very frustrated.
I did hear there was a firmware update in early November but 10.5.1 was released after that; and I have done all the software updates so I don't know if I need to do the firmware update. (This machine is one of the new thin aluminum iMacs introduced in August. I got mine in September.)

  • Keychain sync issues between new iMac and older 10.4.11 machine

I am having a tough time since purchasing a new imac - I can get mobileme working reasonably well with few issues if I have keychain syncing disabled on both machines but I would like to get to the bottom of this and be able to sync it automatically.
Here is a description of the issues I am getting in spite of performing the regular advice to set up a new account once the issue starts and move all my stuff into that new account.
After a few syncs I get the advice "please enter the password for "(myname), Aos Powerbook G4 17""
Now the A has a double dot (umlaut ?) above it and the o has a ^ above it - not sure how to get that with this keyboard or I would have done it ...
This box is empty below this dialogue (expecting a passcode) and whatever password you enter (I have tried all of mine repeatedly over several weeks now !) it just doesn't accept it. It is as if someone else in a parallel universe has your mac and has entered a new passcode !
Occasionally I will get 'the keychain on '^&G*)(" has been altered do you wish to merge' (not exact text but something like) and I am no longer able to send emails without entering my email account password first and every so often.
There are other weird symptoms too - but does this trigger anyones grey matter ?
IS there an issue between 105 and 104 syncing ?
    Thanks
    Andy

I should also point out that I have an iphone and this poor puppy has tons of apps and data associated with the apps on it......
Anyone have a clue as to how I back this up with the new pbook user account I have created to sidestep the keychain issue ?
The only option it shows erases the iphone's applications and their assoc data from what I can see ....
    Thanks
    Andy
