New ipod nano not recognised

ok, so just bought new ipod (7th generation) nano. All excited when it came, plugged it into and it says on my itunes that "an ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly, please disconnect then reconnect and try again" so obviously i did that. Didn't work. Tried all 3 of my other usb ports. Didn't work. Looked online and followed all the steps (restarting computer, updating windows, checking my usb ports, resetting ipod, and reinstalling itunes. none of this worked!! Really annoyed as I am wanting to use my new nano as my last one is literally dying! (hold button doesn't even work in my old one!)
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Could be an issue with the new lighting cable as others have reported similar problems. Does it connect with another PC or Mac running iTunes?
If nothing else, I would recommend returning the iPod for a replacement as soon as possible.

  • New Ipod Nano not being recognized by Computer

It seems I am not the only one having this annoying issue. My new Ipod Nano (3rd Generation) will not show up at all in Itunes. I never get the setup assistant to show up either. I have tried different USB ports, shutting down and restarting the computer, reloading itunes, etc. What's next? I am new to the whole ipod thing so if I need to do something I don't know about, please let me know.

    Hi
You're right, you're not the only person having this problem. If you don't mind though, could you just stick to bumping the other thread? I'll get you the link, one second.

I supposed you have downloaded and installed iTunes 7 on your PC.
It can be either a problem of your PC or the iPod, let have a prove.
Try to find any computer (of course with iTunes preinstalled), if your iPod showed up there, then it is a problem on your computer, read this

If your iPod does not show on any computer, then bring it back to the shop

  • New iPod nano not working on iTunes

Hi people. Total newbi so bear with me!
I have an iPod Mini 4gb which i used with iTunes, everything worked fine. For my birthday I bought a new iPod nano. I tried clicking in the new nano but the computer wouldnt find it.
I then tried to download the latest version of iTunes but i keep getting the same message
"ERROR 1921 SERVICE IPOD SERVICE COULD NOT BE STOPPED. VERIFY THAT YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT PRIVILEGES TO STOP SYSTEM SERVICES"
I deleted the old iTunes and tried to start afresh but I get the same error.
Is it possible to run my old iPod mini and the new iPod nano and the same iTunes and does anybody know how to get around this error message??!?
    Thanks for reading!

  • New iPod nano not charging

My brand new iPod is not taking a charge. I have run down the initial charge it came with about half way. When I connect it to the computer, or to a car charger, or to a wall outlet with adapter, the charging icon appears. However, even after several hours, the battery icon shows only 1/2 full. I have reset it several times. Is there more I can do, or do I need to send it in for repair?

After disconnecting the iPod from a power source, does the battery indicator return to a full charge after a few minutes?
It's not very accurate and sometimes takes a while.

  • Ipod nano not recognised windows 8

I recently bought a new windows 8 computer in Australia and I have a ipod nano 6th generation and Ipad mini  both from Australia.
At first Itunes would not open untill I ran it as an administrator, now it works but will not recognise any of my devices. I am currently living in Canada and I am unsure if when I have reinstalled itunes it has made the software uncompatible. I think this is highly unlikely but im starting to wonder if anything is possible.
Upon connecting my device it comes up in the devices and hardware tab as faulty I have removed and added it several times reinstalled and restarted. When I open it in Itunes it tells me that I should reinstall itunes because there is an ipod that can not be recognised. I have no idea what to do I've tried everything I can think of and Ive racked my brains.
Is there anyway I can get these apple products to work or are they now useless because I've updated my windows to windows 8.

  • New iPod Classic not recognised by Windows 8.1 or latest iTunes

I have a brand new iPod classic and have just made several playlists on iTunes.
As a sidenote, I am due to have a baby in one week and bought the iPod just for the hospital stay so I am getting extremely frustrated!
My computer is running Windows 8.1and recognises my iPhone and iPad Air but will not connect the iPod Classic.
When plugged in, it makes that little musical sound to say an item has been connected then nothing.
It does not register in 'My Computer' or on iTunes.
The iPod says "Connected. Eject before disconnecting". I don't get the iPod sad face or the exclamatuion mark.
I have reinstalled iTunes, the one time it registered the iPod was when I plugged in the iPad Air (iPod was no longer plugged in) and wanted me to restore the iPod, which it was still attempting to do 7 hours later (I did plug the iPod back in for this)!
Any suggestions would be super as I have now spent about 5 hours more on this than I would have liked to and about 10 hours more on this than I should have.
    Thanks

  • 6th generation Ipod nano not recognised in itunes

When I plug my ipod into my laptop, it is recognised in my computer but not in itunes or as a device when trying to safely remove it.
I tried plugging my 4th generation ipod nano into my laptop but again the same thing happens.
I tried plugging it into a different laptop and my 4th generation was recognised but my 6th wasn't. In another laptop, my 6th generation was recognised in itunes and worked fine.
I have tried resetting my ipod both ways, uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, using different USB ports and uninstalling everything apple related and reinstalling it but that hasn't solved the problem.
My laptop was sent away to have the hard drive replaced and this problem has happened since but that doesn't explain why it worked in another laptop but not in another one.
Can anyone suggest anything else I could do to try to make it work?
    My laptop runs windows 7.
    Thank you!

I've tried all of the USB 2.0 ports on my laptop and I have tried using a different cable.
I've tried resetting the ipod whilst connected to the laptop and still isn't recognised.
I am working through the iPod not recognised in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows:
    Step 1: didn't help
    Step 2: didn't help
    Step 3: didn't help
Step 4: Empty your Temp directory and restart - When I tried to delete the Temp folder, a message came up saying 'action can't be completed because the folder or file is open in another program' but I didn't have anything else open so I can't delete that folder.
Step 5: Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed - when I opened the Device Manager window, it was empty, there was nothing, so I couldn't continue with that step.
    Step 6: didn't help
Step 7: I've already tried to remove and reinstall iTunes and it hasn't helped
Step 8: Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items - I did this and restarted my laptop then tried opening iTunes but it said Bonjour had been disabled so I enabled it but setting it to Automatic and then opened iTunes but the iPod still wasn't recognised.
Step 9: I turned off security and tried but he iPod still wasn't recognised
Step 10: doesn't apply to me as I'm using Windows 7
I've tried the steps in iPod troubleshooting assistant and they haven't helped.
I've put it into disk mode and its still not recognised.
    My ipod isn't Macintosh-formatted.
My ipod doesn't sync via FireWire.
I have now worked through each and every single suggestion from Apple.
I have run a device connectivity test with the iPod attached and here are the results:

  • NEW IPOD NANO NOT WORKING, PLEASE HELP

    Hi Guys,
I have the large IPOD (4 YEARS OLD) and bought a 2nd Ipod Nano that's smaller for the gym. I plugged it into my MAC BOOK PRO and it keeps saying it needs to be updated which I press "OK" and then it asks for my password and when I type it in, it keeps stating it's "incorrect"? What should I do, any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

My plan was to fresh install OSX, install Carbon Copy Cloner and then clone the old drive by plugging it in with a reading device I have.
    Hi VS,
What "reading device" are you using?
As it started the macbook told me I was '+running on battery power+' and '+was I sure?+'. With full battery I said yes and continued.
It is best to have the power adapter connected when running a long process like this which cannot be interrupted.
The new internal drive was also making a repetitive noise - not loud or anything but certainly sounded like it was searching for something. As the whole thing was stuck and nothing was working I held down the power button.
    How long was it "stuck?"
I tried again with the first disc but it wont even do anything anymore! I took out the new drive and put in the old one. Booted up. Connected the new drive to the reader with the idea of re-formatting it via disc utility.
But now the brand new drive is not readable and is making the a few funny repetitive noises.
Please help me someone - I'm very worried about this new drive now!!! Is is broken or corrupted or something???
It sounds like there is something amiss with the new HD. If you have access to a different external enclosure, (even on a PC, just to see if the HD will function), you could try erasing/formatting it again. If not, I think it's time to contact the vendor about a return.

  • New Ipod nano not working with my Windows 2000

I have just bought an ipod nano 8GB, and tried to install it. The latest itunes I can put on my computer is 7.3.2 as it is a Windows 2000 not an XP. Unfortunately the nano is saying it needs 7.4 and above. can anyone help please?

I wish you would have asked or checked on the tech specifications for the Nano prior to purchase. These are the required tech specs, copied directly from the Nano page. I'm sorry there's nothing you can do.

  • Ipod Nano not recognised as an iPod

Hi, I have a fourth generation iPod nano, which today just started not working correctly. When inserted into my Mac, it will be recognized as a removable drive (with the name "noname" on the desktop, and it is not recognized at all in iTunes. I have tried resetting the nano, but that doesn't help. I have also tried running in disk mode which also did nothing. When I double click on the Noname icon, it is completely empty. When I look at the iPod menus they are all there but there is no music. I tried to restore it, but since it will not appear as a device in iTunes, I can not do this...
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Ipod nano not recognised in windows or itunes have done R&R twice

I have had ipods from the beginning of time. trying to sync brand new gen 6 nano without any success. My ipad works OK. can any one help?

A few things to try before doing a reinstall:
    - Connect the iPod directly to your computer. Not through a hub. Also, if you are connecting to a USB port on the front of your computer, try one on the back.
    - Disconnect all other USB devices except for your keyboard and mouse. There may be some other USB item conflicting with your iPod.
If neither of those helps, you should try doing a full reinstall. This means reinstalling all the Apple items (not just iTunes). Here is an article from Apple on how to do this.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
After you do the uninstall/reinstall, you should be good to go.
