New keyboard first time connection to a Mac

I am developing a hardware interface that enumerated like HID Keyboard. What I would like to know is how overcome the issue of having to press specific keys the first time the device is plugged in before the keyboard will work as normal. The reason is the interface will not have any standard keys access able by the user.

And since I had to create this example for other purposes earlier on, you get it at no extra charge :-)

import java.sql.DriverManager;
import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
import java.sql.ResultSet;
import java.sql.Statement;

      throws Exception
      System.out.println("Preparing connection");
      Class.forName(DRIVER);
      Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(URL,USERNAME,PASSWORD);
      Statement stat = conn.createStatement();
      System.out.println("Issuing DDL");
      stat.execute(CREATE_TABLE);
      stat.close();
      System.out.println("Creating content");
      PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement(CREATE_CONTENT);
      for(int i = 0; i < 100; i++) {
         ps.setInt(1,i);
         ps.setString(2,"Example content: " + i);
         ps.executeUpdate();
      ps.close();
      System.out.println("Acquiring the data");
      ps = conn.prepareStatement(SELECT_CONTENT);
      ps.setInt(1,42);
      ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();
      while(rs.next()) {
         System.out.println("Retrieved data (" + rs.getString(1) + ")");
      conn.close();
      System.out.println("Done.");

  • I transferred PPT files from a windows based pc (microsoft PPT 2003), at first my macbook was able to run all animations in file, after some time it stopped running it, partly because i "switched on" something since this is my first time to use a mac ?

    i transferred PPT files from a windows based laptop to my macbook, at first it was able to run the animations in the file no problem, its my first time to use a mac also bythe way, so i started downloading freebies like the VLC, FLIP4MAC, and other plug-in players, would it be because of this downloads that my mac now cannot seem to run the powerpoint animations any more ?

    I don't think vlc would affect powerpoint.  What were those "other plug-in players" you downloaded?
    I'm not that familiar with powerpoint so how are those animations played?  Are they windows media player files?  If so then flip4mac might affect them.

  • My Apple wireless keyboard won't connect to my Mac mini any more.

    My Apple wireless keyboard won't connect to my Mac mini any more. Going through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant doesn't help - the computer finds the keyboard, but when I type in the pass code it fails to pair with it. The green LED on the bottom of the keyboard flashes twice at roughly two-second intervals. I've tried replacing the batteries and this has had no effect. I have all the latest software updates installed.

    Welcome Cheirhandrea!
    There are easily hundreds of variants of the iMac dating back to 1998. Many of the pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers cannot support an Apple wireles keyboard. Because this model has been in production for so long, it is important for you to let us know as much about your computer as possible so someone won't give you information that may not be appropriate to your iMac variant.
    So we need to know:
    1) Your processor type and Mac OSX version, both available by doing "About this Mac" from your Apple menu at the left end of the menu bar:
    2) The make and model of the keyboard.
    I asked for your Mac OS version because "iOS" as currently shown in your equipment profile cannot run on any Mac computer, only Apple's mobile devices. Once you get the OS version from "About this Mac," please change your profile to avoid further confusion and get help faster without the delay of someone having to ask for clarification before they can start helping.

    I just started my Macbook air the first time, connected it with my wlan and know it asks me for a password and it does not accept the only password I know, what can I do?

    It needs the user password for the wireless router, that would have been set by whomever installed the router, if that was you then try to find the password. If you can not find the password reset the router to factory default and set it up again.

  • First time connection, clueless user

    Hello all and thanks for the help.
    I just bought an Airport capsule I intend to use for the following:
    - To back up 2 computers using Time machine
    - To be able to exchange files between computers (or if easier) simply move files from one computer to the other using Time machine back ups - manually
    SPECS
    1. Computers:
    - imac 3.2Ghz Intel Core i5, 16GB
    - Brand new MacBook Pro 2.8 Dual Core Intel i5, 16GB
    2. OS and software: All of them running 10.9.4, Time Machine 1.3, Airport Utility 6.3.2
    3. Internet conection:
    - A small, Comcast Netgear wireless router that has several opened Ethernet connections. To it there are two things connected: a Sonos system device and a cable connecting the router to the modem, but again, there are several slots opened
    - A medium size, black, vertically  resting DSLModem: Arris TM722 (there is only one Ethernet slot on this, and it is taken by a connection between it and the Comcast receiver)
    QUESTIONS
    1. How should I make the cable connections for first time set up of the capsule and for later ongoing use
    2. This may be an unrelated to this topic, but FYI: the laptop is brand new, so I will need to bring some files and data from the iMac to the laptop, not sure what method will use... but may use a manual method from Time machine if possible.
    THANKS
    Alberto.

    The modem is not dsl, it is a cable modem with telephone ability.. the phone cables might be confusing you but there should be a thick coaxial cable going into the modem which is the cable connector.
    Comcast Netgear wireless router
    I am not aware of comcast supplying a wireless router.. if it is specifically from comcast you maybe stuck with it.. but i would try to plug the TC directly into the Arris modem.
    Power cycle the modem.. this is more complex with your model if the battery is present.
    The TC should be in standard router mode and the public IP should then be loaded onto the WAN interface of the TC.
    No luck you will need to leave the netgear in place and plug the TC into that with ethernet.. but in this case you will bridge the TC instead of using it as router.
    1. How should I make the cable connections for first time set up of the capsule and for later ongoing use
    Ethernet is always best. Especially for the first backup.
    Your new laptop may not even have an ethernet port. In which case wireless should be fine.. unless you want to buy the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter which is only around $40.
    2. This may be an unrelated to this topic, but FYI: the laptop is brand new, so I will need to bring some files and data from the iMac to the laptop, not sure what method will use... but may use a manual method from Time machine if possible.
    You can migrate your files.. this works well for most people.. but the disk size in the laptop might be SSD and small in which case yes, manually copy the files.. but don't use TM .. if you need to copy files there is no reason to use the TC at all.. the two computers linked over a network and you can copy files directly by sharing on one computer.

  • New imac, first time trying to open...

    I got the new iMac today and I just tried to open iMovie for the first time but it wont open, it bounces in the dock and then says it unexpectedly quit?

    Guys, Guys!!!
    You are talking about different types of problems. With regard to the bouncy icon (Melanie) with no launch of iMovie 08:
    When you set up your computer, did you bring data from your previous computer?
    Do you have DivX in you computer?.
    Greggor: you r absolutely right, this is not apple-like. Leopard has had several problems, I almost feel that my new MacBook is a HP Pavilion on a Mac costume. However, most of the problems are being defined clearly very rapidly.
    One of the 2 most frustrating problems for me are the incompatibility of iMovie with DivX, unable to playback correctly DivX in Leopard, and the disastrous compatibility of other third-party software, like Osirix, Skype, and the MOST SHOCKING: *Acrobat Reader*.

  • Ipod shuffle 4th gen only syncs first time connected

    My ipod shuffle wont sync, charge, or be recognized by my computer! I'm on a late 2006 Macbook pro with all current software. (itunes 10.1.2 and mac os 10.6.6)
    I just bought my ipod shuffle 4th generation and am having difficulties syncing it. The first time I plugged it in it showed up in finder, showed up in itunes, the little orange light on the ipod went on, and I successfully put some of my music onto it.
    A day later when I plugged it in to put some more music on it my computer did not recognize it at all: it didnt show up in finder, it didnt show up in itunes, and the orange light didnt come on. I have checked and done the following things: made sure it's plugged in all of the way, tried other usb ports, unplugged other usb devices, restarted itunes, reinstalled itunes, and restarted my computer but nothing has worked so far. I then, to see if it was the cable that was not working, plugged it into my dads windows 7 laptop. It was recognized by windows and itunes that first time but the second time I plugged it in neither windows or itunes recognized it and the ipod's orange light didnt come on.
    Whats up with this? What should I try next? I feel like this may be an issue with the ipod itself but does anyone have any ideas of things I could try on my mbp to see if it will sync?

    When you say "hot beyond limits? do you mean that the iPod's screen showed the overheating warning?
    Durring charging, the iPod can get quite warm.  If you have a concern I would make an appoinment t the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  How hot is hot is very subjective.

  • Mobile Accounts: Sync new accounts first time only.

    When a user logs into a computer for the first time it is set to create a mobile account, however we don't use home directory syncing because the typical size of our 200 users' home directories is over 100Gb which makes syncing home directories not viable.
    It would be very handy, though, to have it sync the first time only at login so that our user directory template is automatically copied over which will save a lot of time setting up new users.
    Accoring to Apple's User Management v10.5 documentation on page 203:
    +"To initially sync local and network homes so that the network home folder replaces the local home folder, choose “Create home with default sync settings."+
    (This refers to Workgroup Manger -> Preferences -> the Mobility pane -> Account Creation -> Creation tab)
    After testing, though, it is quite clear that this does not work - at least on my setup. I can get it to work by going to the Rules tab in the Mobility pane and ticking the sync at login and logout, but this syncs every time on both login and logout, which is not what I want to achieve.
    Any ideas?

    I also mentioned, that some Safari-Extensions I installed on the iMac are missing now on my iMac-Profile. I also mentioned, that some settings for 1Password are reset to default values.

  • ISE 1.2 Authentication Failures at First time Connection

    Hi,
     I have a trouble with ISE 1.2 when trying to authenticate for first time an end-device, this device might be either a Workstation or IP Phone or Printer,etc. it fails or staying in running mode. The result is the same it can not access the network.  hopefully I'm still in open mode :)
    As i described in the beginning everything has status Running or Authz Failed. and after a time of period usually one day finally succeeds.
    This happens mostly for workstations and printers, but in case of phones does not have the same behavior. I unplug plug the phones or I shut/ no shut the ports in order to trigger it to succeed. For some phones worked but other obstinately declined.
    The phones which are not Cisco phones authenticated with MD5 (a simple username and pass  ) i think the problem should not related with the auth protocol.
    Below are some logs from one phone. For me coming to a short conclusion this must be related with the switches which are 3750e (15.02 SE 4 IOS)
    or with the same the ISE, why because i have almost the same behavior for all end-devices.
    I kindly remain your comments...

    Regards
    T.C

    I'm not using authentication method with certificates for none end-devices
    Workstations with the windows default authentication protocol EAP/MSCHAPv2
    In front of them there are non Cisco IP-phones with auth. method EAP/MD5
    Finally I also have some printers again with option EAP/MD5
    For all of these devices I received the same behavior, after many hours finally the authenticated with ISE. But is this the expected behavior?
    What I understand is that if the devices finally authenticated then it means that there isn’t anything wrong with the method.
    The misunderstanding points are 3
    Why there is so much delay for all devices to authenticate?
    Why some devices, mostly IP phones (not all) continuing to fail to the authentication method. All my devices are identical with the same software / patch, same model etc.
    I have noticed randomly some devices one moment to succeed and the next moment to failed
    So for my understanding there is an abnormal behavior and i cannot find the way /pattern to correct it or to understand the reason :)

  • I have bought a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB drive, first time I have selected Mac Windows option which excludes Time Machine to work on it, but now I want to go back and select Only Mac option to activate my Time Machine application. I request you to help me

    I have bought a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB drive, first time during plug-in, I have selected Mac Windows option which excludes Time Machine to work on it, but now I want to go back and select Only Mac option to activate my Time Machine application.
    I request you to help me with the procedure of the same?

    IMPORTANT - This will reformat your Seagate drive and hence wipe it.  If there is anything on your Seagate drive you want to keep, save it somewhere else FIRST.
    Plug the drive in.
    In Finder select Applications > Utilities > Disc Utilities.
    Select the external drive, select Partition option, give it a name (I call mine Mac Backup), select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Format and under the drop down menu "Partition Layout" select the number of partitions you want (so if you want the drive to just be for Time Machine, select 1 Partition, if you want part of the drive to be for Time Machine and the rest for something else, select 2 partitions and so on).  Click apply and the Disc Utility will partition and reformat your drive ready to use.
    When this is complete, open Time Machine in System Preferences. Use  Select Disc to select the drive (or if you have multiple partitions, the partition of the drive) you want and you are good to go.
    This may be a long way round, but it gives you the option to partition your disc which you may want.

  • New workflow first time with InDesign and FH

    I thought I would share my experience using FreeHand in an
    InDesign CS2 workflow for the first time,
    first a little history: I have almost exclusively used trusty
    old FreeHand for 95% of my layout work for the last 10 years up
    till now, only tackling the crappy old dinosaur that is Quark when
    the job size just got too big for Freehand,
    one of my regular annual jobs is to produce a 52 page full
    colour catalogue for a local company, too big for FH and a real
    pain in Quark, so this year I took the plunge and bought the Adobe
    CS2 Design Suite with the intention of only using InDesign CS2 for
    long format jobs like this catalogue and sticking with FH for my
    regular work.
    Sorry folks but I have to tell you, I won't be using Freehand
    for any of my layout work from now on, InDesign CS2 is no less than
    Awesome!! I finished the whole job in record time, and due to the
    great tools, honestly a better design.
    just being able to use native photoshop psd files with
    transparency directly in Layout is fantastic, not to mention
    selectable hide and show layers from within the psd, I could go on
    and on about the features that blew me away but many of you already
    know about them, (nested style sheets anyone!?)
    needless to say from now on I will only be using FreeHand to
    produce my vector logo's etc, however if this is the situation then
    there's a good case for learning Illustrator as .ai files can also
    be used natively in InDesign.
    I still think FreeHand is a great all rounder, but I have to
    say I now feel more confident that I could live without it if
    that's the way the cookie crumbles!

    Same experience for me and my coworkers. We use ID everyday
    and made a
    smooth transition from Quark. Illustrator, on the other hand,
    is just
    baffling and I wonder if that's a legacy of it being a much
    older
    program. Photoshop, in some ways, has some difficult concepts
    to learn
    but Adobe seems to have worked hard to make its tools easy to
    use
    (reworking filters and layer styles for a couple of
    examples.) I wonder
    if Illustrator just doesn't get the same kind of resources
    that
    Photoshop and some of the other programs get.

    I followed the instruction on the quick start manual (open itunes,connect ipod touch to my mac,and finish the registration,sync music etc.)Then the screen is still WHITE. I've tried some efforts including reset and recover,but still white screen! Couldn't believe this!
    Help me!
    PS:The touchpad seems to be ok. When I push the sleep button and slide my finger on the bottom of the screen,such a sound like the screen is locked or unlocked sent out.

    uncheck the music in itunes and resync to delete her music from your ipod
    then create another account using everything the same except change your email address from a ".com" to ".net"
    like me, I have an ipod touch and my mom has a shuffle, she doesn't like using credit cards online
    so we use mine for both accounts but with [email protected] as mine and [email protected] as hers
    that way we can both use the credit card and on the same pc but with different passwords too

  • I recieved my brand new mac today, im on the start up bit but my keyboard refuses to connect with the mac?The mouse is fine, but i cant get past the 'create your comuper account' part as the keyboard just wont connect? ugh what do i do

    ?

    Did you turn on the keyboard by pressing the round side button (right side, I think) such that the green light starts to blink? Then open Blue Tooth preferences in order to pair the keyboard to the computer.
