First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

  • New Laptop with Windows 7 not recognizing my iPod

I have iTunes loaded (I used a USB transfer) and now I'm trying to charge/update my iPod, but when I connect it to the laptop nothing happens. I've rebooted. I've put the iPod in disk mode. I've tried all three USB ports on the laptop. Nothing. The cable works because when I plug it in with the iPod to a regular outlet, it starts charging. My previous computer had Windows XP. I've been searching online for about an hour without any solutions to this problem. I have the lastes iTunes update loaded (9.0.2.25)

Problem Solved! Posting in case someone else has same issue. It was so easy once I found the right solution. I uninstalled all the USB controllers, then rebooted the computer. When it came back up, it reinstalled all the USB controllers. When it was done, I plugged in the iPod and TADA...it began to sync, iTunes came up, and my iPod was recognized. Hallelujah!

well nobody bothered to give me a hint on what to do, maybe because the problems with the new version of iTunes are really a lot, there is an enormous amount of people out there that have all sort of different problems including mine  so I have decided to return to the previous version which works fine and wait untill the apple people come up with a decent product ....

itunes does not recognize my ipod nano 6, it is a used one and has 1600 plus songs, it shows the songs, but won't let me do anything with them

I had this exact problem. I had to plug the iPod into a USB port on the back of the computer tower not the fron ones. Hope this helps.

  • ITunes does not recognize my iPod Nano Gen. 4

I have a MacBook Pro Retina with the latest version of iTunes installed on it and an iPod Nano Gen. 4. The problem that I have is as follows: My Mac does recognize my iPod but just as storage device. iTunes does open when I plug in my iPod but I cannot find any iPod icon on iTunes and therefore cannot upload anything to the iPod via iTunes.
I have performed a reset procedure on the iPod, restarted my Mac, and tried out different USB cables and ports but iTunes still does not recognize my iPod.
How do I solve this problem?

  • How do I install PageMaker 7 on a new laptop with Windows 8.1?  Too many files, and nothing brings me to the registration menu.

I am at my wits end trying to install PageMaker 7.0 on my new laptop with System 8.1.  When the disk is inserted, there is a long list of files.  Other times it takes me to the Installation menu - which will not open when I click on it.
My PC is also system 8.1, and somehow the place I bought it from installed PageMaker and it works fine.
I hope you'll email me a response.  I don't want to have to keep logging on here to search for an answer.  Adobe won't help me.
    Help.

Pagemaker is ancient, obsolete and unsupported. It was discontinued over 10 years ago. (Though why it is still sold is a mystery.)
If you want to run PageMaker, your best bet is to use a Win2K or WinXP PC.
Otherwise move to Indesign or look at Serif's PagePlus or Scribus.

  • When I try to click on a download link for a .pdf file Firefox does not recognize the MIME type and tries to download the file as "index.php"

When visiting a site I frequent I tried to download a linked .pdf file. Previously I've used Firefox 7.0.1 to download the link with no problem. Using Firefox 8 however I the browser does not recognize the .pdf link's mime type. Instead of recognizing the download link as a .pdf file Firefox 8 tries to download it as "index.php". Firefox 8 does this with .doc files and .txt files as well. When I downgrade to 7.0.1 again the problem disappears.

    Hi hakmacpace,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
You could also try [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=create+a+new+profile&r=2&e=es&as=s#w_creating-a-profile Creating a new profile].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Computer does not recognize my ipod nano (2nd gen.)

    Hi!
I'm having a problem with my 2nd generation ipod nano. My ipod itself works fine! The thing is that my computer won't recognize it. It says something about there being some "malfunction" or other. Also, for some reason it doesn't want to charge right. Can someone please help me with this?

  • Windows does not recognize my ipod

i've been going at this all day. i've read everything at the support area at apple about this subject. but nothing seems to be working. i've connected my ipod to another computer and the other computer recognizes it right away. so i guess it might mean there's something wrong with my computer. it's really frustrating and i would really like some help. thank you.

    Hi b,
Well over the weekend, before I could read your last reply, I took the iPod and laptop to the local Apple service centre. Their reply to my problem was. "We are not interested in Windows and do not know what to do with it." they plug my iPod into a Mac and it worked and they said that it was not the iPod, I knew that as it worked on other windows machines. After some other hostile, did I mention that these guys were not helpful....and their attempts to charge me for no service whatsoever. I left, vowing never to return there, even if it meant me ebaying the iPod!
I went to a major computer retailer and told them my problem and he had never heard of this and wanted to look at what was causing it. This guy not only plug my iPod in my laptop, but his and a brand new one and they all failed to connect. He then plug my iPod into his computer and it worked, after resetting it and remembering to setting it up again, eg. from the language selection.
After all this trying, including help from the Apple rep and using a diagnostic on the Apple Guys computer still no luck. It appears there was a software problem with the USB drivers, even though all other USB 2.0 devices plug into it worked.
In final desperation he plugged in a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card and then the iPod into that and it worked!!!!
I was about to buy this card but the guy said wait a minute and then plugged the iPod into laptop's USB ports and it worked as well!!!! We do not know why it did, not software or drivers were loaded onto the laptop but it appears inserting the PCMCIA USB card activated something and the iPod works now.
So after 2 1/2 hours at the shop my iPod works and the guy did not charge me, even though I did not buy my iPod from there! So I would like to offer my experience to others and hope this helps and if anyone in Wellington NZ needs some computer stuff go to Harvey Norman on Tory street as I will now do it.
So b, to recap, plugging in a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card then the iPod into it fixed my issue and I hope that it will help others in the same plight.
Thank you for your suggestions as well.
    Take care,

  • My computer does not recognize my ipod nano

my ipod first gen can not be recognize my computer or on itunes if tried disk mode

Have you tried a different USB cable or connecting it to a different port? Does the iPod still charge when you plug it in?  Does it appear in Device Manager?
If possible, connect the iPod to another computer to see if it's recognized there.  If it ins't, it's a proble with your Nano, and if it is, it's a problem with your PC.

  • At the urging of an Apple Store employee, I upgraded to OS Lion X.  However, Excel does not recognize the hard drive and I cannot save any work.  I understand there is a small compatibility issue - any suggestions ?

I need some direction on fixing an issue with excel and lion x which has a compatibility issue - can't save my work to a hard drive.

If you made a backup before installing lion, now would be a good time to restore that backup.... Ok, well you can always boot into lion recovery menu.... shut down your mac, hold down the option key and restart your computer..... Select recovery from the disk startup menu and go to disk utility... select the OSX disk, you can try repairing your permissions and repairing the disk.... If you lucky enough, it will fix it.... If not, and you have a decent internet connection, click the reinstall LION OSX after exiting disk utility. Your mac will now REDOWNLOAD LION OSX and reinstall it.... did you happen to make a backup before?
Also, did your mac originally have Leopard? Just curious... Because LION is entirely 64bit now where as Snow leopard had support for 32 bit as well, but the problem may be that some of your older apps where 32 bit.... This is just a guess though I'm not sure.... Because I've had numerous problems and crashes with my CS 4 stuff and final cut pro 7 and aperature.... Not sure if it's totally related to the whole 64 bit thing, but the thing is that the crashes are only occuring on my 32 bit apps.... otherwise the computer runs great.... To remedy, I had previously made an OSX lion USB drive so that I could do a fresh install of LION. I backed up all my data and files, installed a new SSD and my Macbook is SCREAAAAAAMING fast.... Sorry about the gloating but I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of your problem....

  • My iMac with Mavericks update does not recognize my brother printer and I cannot even add the printer info in the system preferences printer list.  What is WRONG?

I had to buy a new printer when I got my Imac and I chose the Brother multifunction inkjet MFCJ470DW.  It worked fine when my Mavericks version was 10.9.1, but after the automatic update to 10.9.2 the computer no longer recognizes the brother, or says it isn't connected, and when I deleted it from printer preferences and attempted to re-enter it as default printer, I cannot even type anything into the list of printers when I press the + sign to add.  What am I doing wrong?  Can someone please tell me even how to add text into the printer preferences list?

I had some of the same issues your having, deleted the printer from Printer and Scanner in System Preference.
What I ended up doing was connecting the printer with a USB cable like it was a new set up, down loaded the drivers from Apple, still did not seem to work, but did a coupel of restarts and the printer was found then I completed the set up.
