New message font

I have my mail Font Settings set to Calibri 13 for new messages. However when I receive the message in Outlook on my Windows PC the font is changed to Times New Roman and the point size is changed to 12. I can send messages in Calibri on my PC and I receive messages in Calibri and other fonts from others. Why is this happening and how can I set the font so it is sent and received as the same font.

I'm not an expert here, but there is a work-around. See if this works for you:
If you open an email that you composed and saved in Apple Mail, you can view the HTML code by clicking "View>Message>Raw Source" from your menu bar. To me that shows a bunch of gibberish, but you can find your "automatic" signature buried deep into a lot of formatting instructions. For some reason, Apple Mail puts the body of your message before this formatting gibberish, but your signature goes after it. So the receiver will see your signature formatted correctly (assuming his PC has your fonts) but the body of your message is probably in his default font because your HTML didn't include font instructions for that part of your message. So you have no control over the font displaying on the receiver's screen. Hope I've explained that clearly enough.
The work-around: Open your email preferences. Click on Signatures tab and format your signature like you want it. Make sure it is in a font that Windows users will have. Like Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, etc.
Now, in that same Signatures pane, add a character of your choice - say an asterisk - and then hit Enter twice to make a blank line or two before your signature. Now close the preferences window and create a new email. You have to type your message AFTER the asterisk. Everything after the asterisk will be included in the HTML format you set up in your signature.
What a pain, but it seems to work.

  • No font options in the toolbar when composing a new message? Why not?

Don't get me wrong my fellow Mac-brothers - I love the Mail.app especially in Leopard. But I'm curious about something and I'm tired of scratching my head because I have no hair left and my head is starting to hurt, hehe.
When composing a new email, everything that is common and practical is displayed (or can be displayed) on the customizable toolbar but to me it seems counterintuitive to exclude the a font options button. I also think it's weird to not have a simple line for font options (ie. typeface menu, font size menu, color, bold/italic/underline, justification, etc.) below the subject line and/or account and signature line as opposed to (or in addition to) the current, detatched-window method which I find odd.
I'm honestly very surprised the Mail.app is not designed that way. Outlook for Windows has a font option line when composing a new message and I guess it would just seem logical for Apple to maybe implement something similar. I think a dedicated line in the message window would be a more simplistic solution.
What is your take on this idea? =)
    Either way, Mac's rule.

You can tell Apple how you want Mail changed, just go here:

If you want a mail program designed for people who like Outlook, you can get MS Entourage.

  • Unable to generate Pdf report for crystal 9/10  in Windows 2012 (Standard) server with Times New Roman font. With same font, report getting generated in excel, text, csv format in Windows 2012.

For Times New Roman font in Windows server 2012 R2 (Standard), crystal 9/10 report in pdf format is not getting generated. When we change the font for specific report like Arial, Calibri , Cambria then pdf report getting created.
In Windows 2008 R2, same application worked fine to generate pdf report for TimesNewRoman font and there is no change done in the application which is being used in Windows 2012 R2 server.

Ok, thanks for the reply. You need to contact support or a forum for the Crystal software. Third party products don't usually include Adobe technology, they have their own software. When you contact them, you may want to expand "unable to generate" to give any specific symptoms including any error messages.

  • Firefox will download some of the new messages. Hang and eventualy say no new messages. Run again and several messages will download and mess up again.

This happened some time after I cleaned up and deleted many old emails. The reason I did this is the system was really slow downloading messages.
Shortly after that it would say I had 300 messages download a random number. 1,50,200 etc then stop. Saying no new messages.
My server provider is ATT Uverse. I checked the mail server changing to the latest recommeded settings for the sbcglobal.net domain. Problem is still there.
I configured Outlook on my computer for the first time. Outlook works perfectly. Thunderbird does not.
I first noticed the problems a couple of weeks ago. Got worse after cleaning up old emails late last week.
I have compacted all the folders and rebuilt the index. Tried safe mode worked once second try same problem.

Turning off Real Time Email Attachment scanning fixed the problem.
I turned the Mcafee Fire wall back on and the plugin . Will experiment to see what if it is just the Attachment Scanning or if the other parts need to be disabled also.

  • Gmail no longer pushes new messages to Apple Mail in Mavericks

I Googled [gmail push Mavericks OR 10.9 "use idle command"], and restricted results to the last year; absolutely nothing came up, so I decided to post this:
Gmail seems to no longer push email to Apple Mail in Mavericks—at least for me.
In OS 10.8 and before, enabling "Use IDLE command if the server supports it" caused Gmail to instantly push new emails to Apple Mail.  No longer.
With the new "Check for new messages Automatically" option, new messages aren't coming in at all, or with severe delays (I don't recall which).  When I change it to "Check for new messages Every minute," it checks every minute, which is okay, but not what I had in previous OSs: instant pushing of new messages.
Has anyone managed to solve this problem?
Or does anyone at least know what's causing the problem, and whether it's potentially fixable?

Nevermind. I am blind as a bat. I found the answer. There's an option under VIEWING in the preferences for Display unread messages with boldl font. I don't know why that is unchecked.

  • New message button doesn't work

    Hi,
I have rebuild my friends drive with Disk Warrior and now, the Mail software doesn't work well. I cannot create a new message. I tried the "new" button, the "new message" menu in the "File" menu. I even tried to create a new mail by using a link on a web site via Safari. I erased the com.apple.mail preference and the Mail folder in my library. I tried with a new account. Nothing works. The system is a G5 with Tiger 10.4.8.
I think the problem is the framework.
Does anyone have an idea to fix this? Can I reinstall over it? How? With the original disk (10.4.6)?
    Thanx in advance!

    Hi BlaKCroW.
What does “I tried with a new account” mean? Are you talking about a user account or about a mail account, i.e. have you checked whether the problem is system-wide? Try this:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
In the meanwhile, take a look at the following article, in case this is a font issue:
Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther

  • How to start new messages and replies using text format only?

    Hallo,
I would like to start typing a new message in text format without the need to type every time the key option shift command T.
The same, when I reply to a message I would like to use text only.
I have played with the preferences but any of them seems able to do what I want.
Is it possible to customize this in mail?
    thanks

    Thanks for the help,
I have already made these changes, but I was still having sign differences.
So what I have done now is go to preferences signs and for each account sign I have removed the option "use always my default font" and I have changed all signs font to the same of plain text.
I am trying now... seems better but I am not still sure that it is plain text.
    thanks

  • Default color of text on new messages written

    Hello...
How can I define a color by default on the text, on the new messages that I make?

No but you can create a message template with the chosen font, size and color, etc.

  • How do I add New York font?

After the death of my G5 iMac running Tiger, I acquired an Intel iMac running Snow Leopard. A font often used in documents was New York. Now, when I open iWork documents recovered from the G5 I get the message saying some warnings occurred and do I want to review them. I could go in and change fonts but it would be simpler just to add the New York font.
    Is that possible?
I still have an old eMac running Tiger and so have access to the New York font. But if I simply copy it over am I likely to cause other problems?

I don't see any problem/s with copying this font over to your machine.
There are at least 3 families of New York; condensed, normal and extended that I see.
What I have are TT fonts.
If you use font book, you can use the add font feature.

  • HTML message fonts

I cannot figure out the way the fonts work with rich text emails. This has always bugged me. It's really annoying. If I use rich text, on my machine, it looks nice (i guess it's lucida grande - i've never switched it). But when the person on the other end gets it, they see it as nasty times new roman. How do I set the font so that all users will see the same thing, like arial? Also, I regularly get emails with fonts that are so small i can barely read them, and then i have to hit the "bigger" button like 10 times. this seems to only happen from windows (outlook) emails. why is that happening? can't i just set the font to send and read and the size and be done with it??

It doesn't matter which font you choose to use if it is not on a Windows machine, they will not see the message properly because they don't have the font on their system and it gets substituted by a font they do have. You can choose fonts in the "Web" category to ensure the fonts will work.
The default font size for messages in Outlook Express has always been 9. Everytime I set up a clients email program I change it to 12, both for my clients eyes while they are typing the message, and for the people who receive their messages. The default font size is easily changed in Outlook Express and other Windows Email programs by anyone who bothers to look.
In Apple Mail you can also adjust your default font and size for creating new messages, but Mail seems to honor the settings in the received email, and I don't know of a way to change the default font size for viewing a message.
You can add a Text Size button to the top of all incoming emails by going to the "View" menu and choosing "Customize Toolbar". Drag the button with the Small A and Large A into the Toolbar area. It becomes available in every message you open.

  • When composing a new message with Thunderbird, the program freezes & says "not responding"

Recently, I needed to reset my 'Main work Computer' to factory default. Before I wiped everything I saved all the messages addresses etc via Mozback, I then transferred all the info to the laptop to see if it works, which it does.
After this I re-installed Thunderbird to my recently reset computer, I used Mozback up to restore all the information as set like it was previously.
It was working great for about a day then only recently I came across this problem:
Thunderbird still receives mail & I can read it, however when I try 'compose new message', 'reply' or 'forward' a message the new box will open up ready to type into except it freezes & it says not responding.
I have it on my laptop & its working fine for now but I'm wanting it to work on the Main Computer!!
    What should I do??

I've figured it out!!! Because I had only just reset the computer to factory default, I decided to reset it again & follow my steps to see what may of happened.
I installed all programs including Thunderbird & it was all working fine...
Until I decided to load a whole heap of fonts into the System. This is where something went wrong with Thunderbird & would freeze when composing a message. So I deleted the fonts I had just installed & it worked again... Now I only load fonts one at a time when I need to. (I am a sign designer, we need fonts!!)

  • Mail / new message changed suddenly

I'm using Mail version 8.1.   Forever, when I began a new mail message it was started in a new window and I could switch between that new message and anything else active on the desktop.  Suddenly, with no changes to settings from me, when I click New Message, a new window comes up from the bottom of the screen, everything else on the desktop goes gray, and I can no longer move about the desktop until I Send, or Cancel.   This is really inconvenient.  What happened?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

General problems: The printer may be unavailable, the network may be down, the communication port to the printer may be corrupt or unavailable, a hardware error at the computer may have occurred (out of paper, paper jam, out of ink, out of toner, etc), and a language setting may need to be reset from the Regional Options control panel.
Local problems: There are several reasons for a local printer (a printer that is attached directly to your computer) to fail:
Check to make sure the printer has paper, ink, and/or toner and check the cables.
If the printer appears to be functional and a printer test by the printer itself indicates the printer is working properly, then check the cables, printer port from the computer, and configuration of the printer at the computer.
Occasionally, an application can develop a conflict with the printer driver and cause a memory leak which corrupts the printer port. If all else fails, restart the computer, recycle the power to the printer, and try printing again.
Occasionally it is even necessary to delete the printer driver and reinstall the latest version of the printer driver.
Network problems: There are various reasons for a network printer to be inaccessible: the name may have changed, it may be out of paper, out of ink, out of toner, down for maintenance, the network could be down, or a printer job previous to yours has stalled due to incorrect settings on the user's computer who last submitted a print job, or even your printer driver cannot communicate correctly with the printer. Network related printer failures are usually best handled by your local technical support.
Memory problemsn occasion, large print jobs with complex graphics or consisting of several hundred pages, which can consume large quantities of memory on the printer, may cause a problem (especially if there was an over run of memory at the printer). You may want to try reducing the amount of complex graphics in your print job, or break the print job up into smaller segments and see if that corrects your problem. It is not uncommon for a very complex graphic to have a defect or error which prevents it from printing on any printer. It may be necessary to load new or revised graphic converters or drivers in order to alleviate a problem of this type.

  • Mail & Contacts: "Italic" doesn't work on default message font

On Mail Preferences/Fonts and colours I set the default message font as a Calibri Italic 15.
Now, the problem is that opening a new message I get Calibri 15 BUT NOT Italic. I have to make it manually...
Does anyone know why this happens and the way to solve this issue?
    Thanks

There is a way around this (thanks to apple for responding to my bug submission) but it's slow. Test to see if the glyphCode created is greater than zero or not:
    final FontRenderContext fontRenderContext = new FontRenderContext(null, false, false);
    char[] array = new char[1];
    array[0] = (char) intvalueofchar;
    GlyphVector glyphVector = glyphFont.createGlyphVector(fontRenderContext, array);
    int glyphCode = glyphVector.getGlyphCode(0);
boolean validchar = (glyphCode > 0);I only need to do this on the mac; on windows it does the right thing without this. If anyone has any suggestions for speeding it up (I already have it running in a thread), that'd be great - but thought I'd post it here for anyone else who might run into the same problem some day.

  • Chrome - New Message - Corrupt Editor View

I like the Chrome browser. But when in the forums, if I choose "New Message", I get a broken editor view and the toolbar is missing most of the options. This is a snapshot of what I see:
The "font styles", the horizontal line item, and everything after the "Insert Image" option are all missing.
I'm forced to use Internet Explorer when I want to post anything that isn't just plain text.
Now I don't know if this is something wrong with my Chrome installation, but there are no errors thrown anywhere, and Chrome updates itself so frequently that a reinstall is probably pointless.
    Any thoughts on this anyone?

Not sure if it helps any, but I often see that view for a split second when using Firefox.  That is usually when I am offsite and therefore my computer likes to be slower than dirt.  Maybe Chrome is getting stuck at a point in the loading process?
