New timestamps added to comments when opening document

Pages '09 Version 4.1 Build 923
on a Mac OS X 10.6.8
Hi,
I have a document which I am working on in Pages.
When I insert a comment to it (i.e. the yellow boxes on the left-hand side), a timestamp is added to the comment automatically.  Although I don't really need that, this is fine and I can always delete it while writing my own text.
However, what really annoys me is the following:
Whenever I open the document again (after having saved and closed it earlier), the current timestamp is added to all comments in the document.
If I then save, close and re-open it again, a further timestamp is added to the document and the first timestamp is also reset to the current time.
Thus, at the moment, in *every* comment box of the rather large file I'm reviewing, I have four separate lines reading "March 9, 2012 12:31 AM". If I close and re-open the document again, there will be five lines reading "March 9, 2012 12:35 AM" (or whatever the current time will be then) in every single comment of the file.
If I delete the three or four timestamps-per-comment, the "game" will start again the next time I open the document.
Amy ideas at all?
I should perhaps add that I'm working here with .doc files (not .pages files) and that I edited the info.plist of Pages to give it the role of 'editor' instead of 'viewer' for all ".doc" files. Mainly to ensure that if I work on a .doc file which I want to remain a .doc file, I don't have to Save As (.doc copy) all the time but can just save in the normal way. Could this interfere with the above problem?
Thanks!

Here is your problem. Every time you open a .doc to Pages it is a new document. When you work on in Pages it is a Pages file and not a .doc file. If you want to work in PAges save the file as the generic .pages and do the export for .doc. Keep that name and next time you Save as Word or export as word in the same location the .doc file will be overwritten with the new one. and you'll only have on .doc file and one .pages file.
If you want only have .doc files don't use Pages.

  • InDesign CS6 (8.1) hangs when opening documents, intermittent

InDesign CS6 (8.1) hangs when opening documents, intermittent, and a document that hangs InDesign, after restarting InDesign, will open fine. I found the following track, Re: InDesign CS5.5 Not Responding  for instructions to "force a hang into a crash" and am posting the crash logs to  pastebin.com
This is the sample process report OPI_Sample9MAY15 - Pastebin.com
This is the corresponding InDesign Crash log OPI_InDesignCrashLog9MAY15 - Pastebin.com
I am hoping that someone might be able to read the logs and tell me what is causing InDesign to hang
For more background information we are using Mac OS X 10.10.3, Within indesign we are using an editorial management software called "NewsEngin GPS" that utilizes Rohohiko's ADIP ToolAssistant plugin and an advertising management plugin "Pagelink" from Mactive/NewsCycle Solutions. These are the only 3 third party vendors that are being used and of course all claim that their products separately are stable under Mac OS 10.10 and InDesign CS6 v8.1.

Did you try to export the INDD file to IDML, open that and work with the new files?

  • Error when opening document with ECL control: INVALID_DATA

    Hi Gurus,
I've tried to search the net for this problem but could not find anything and I'm stuck now.
    Description:
we're using ECL to view attached documents (to POs etc.) which are stored through ArchiveLink on the content repository.
when we try to open this document, time-to-time we get following error:
Error when opening document with ECL control: INVALID_DATA
    Message no. SDV004
by time-to-time I mean that when we try to open same attachment again it opens successfully (sometimes we need to re-open it 3-4 times to get it)
what we've tried is to enlarge timeout for HTTP protocol (tx SMICM, from former 30 to actual 60) but only effect we got is that we're waiting for the error longer time
It will be really great if anybody of you guys can give me an advice where the problem can be or where should I look and what to check
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi Christoph,
thanks for tip, unfortunately this was already flagged, currently settings are:
    for Display Settings:
    yes - include ECL control
    use HTML control
empty - maximum viewer wait time
(do you think that setting some value for this could help)
yes - deactivate generic object services in viewer
no - doc display as dialog box
yes - deactivate data provider cache
    Storage Settings:
yes - always copy document class from document type
    yes - permit multiple assignment
    Thanks,
    David

  • Microsoft Word Hangs When Opening Document From SharePoint 2010 Document Library

I am running into an issue where Word hangs when opening certain files from a document library.  When the issue occurs, Word opens and hangs at the Downloading <Doc URL> stage.  I have tried disabling the SharePoint plugins in IE and that
makes no difference.  I can download a local copy of the file and open in just fine.  The file in questions exists in a separate document library where it can be opened just fine (The file was copied to the library where the issue is occurring by
a Workflow).  The issue also has only occurred on .docx files and not .doc, however, not all docx files are having the issue.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that when you opened a certain files from a document library, it hanged at the downloading stage.
I tried to reproduce the issue, after coping by a workflow, the .docx files opened well in my environment.
Did the issue occur in other documents libraries? You can copy the files to a new documents library by workflow, then check whether it works.
For more details we also can check the SharePoint ULS logs.
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS
Have you check your IE settings (Tools->options->connections->LAN settings->uncheck Automatically detect settings).
Please also use fidder tools to detect the process. You can download it by the following link.

  • Illustrator CS3 hangs when opening document

    Hey
Since this morning, on one of our Intel iMacs, Illustrator just won't open any documents. The program load screen shows up, completes and gives you the dialogue box about opening recent files or new files etc. But when you try and open anything you simply get the colour "wheel of death" and you have to Force Quit Illustrator.
I have tried deleting preferences, reinstalling, and running programs like Onyx to clean disks etc, but nothing seems to work. We have also taken the files over to other Macs where they open perfectly fine. It's really just on this one iMac.
Any ideas would be very very helpful.
    Thanks

Very strange. I'm looking into it now. It was just a DVD with some of our old backup files. The designer was trying to look at previous work files. It caused the crash on his iMac and on a Macbook Pro that we have extra. I also put the disk into my G5 PPC and I wasn't having any problems, until I tried to open a specific Illustrator file on the disk itself. Must just be a corrupt file of some sorts. But as soon as I remove the disk again, everything runs smoooothly :-)

  • ID crashing when opening document in 5.0, converted from 5.5

    I have 6 documents which I got as IDML-files.
They are originally made in 5.5 - I'm using 5.0. Working on a mac (OSX 10.6.8)
When opening a document ID freezes. Then I make a forced close down - and start ID again. And then the document is opened and I can work on it.
This happens with 5 of the documents - the 6th opens without problems.
Any suggestions on what to do?

    See
Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences.
Also, we can debug your hangs.
Run Activity Monitor and select InDesign.
Choose Sample Process. Save the file and upload to http://pastebin.com/.
Then go to View >Send Signal: Abort (SIGABRT) and force the program to crash.
You'll get a crash report.  Also upload that to pastebin.
Post the pastebin link here. We'll look at it and tell you what ID is doing when it hangs.

  • Weird icons appear when Opening Documents in Document Library

Experiencing intermittent issue when opening a document in a certain document library.
    These weird icons appear.
Artificial intelligence can never beat natural stupidity.

That's a sprite file. It's downloaded once for a page and then CSS is used to pick a part of that image. The full display of that image is usually caused by a timeout when downloading the CSS file. If you refresh the page, does it display correctly?
Does the page have any custom JavaScript or custom CSS?

  • How do you add a Comment when editing document in Word for ipad?

How do you add a Comment when editing a document in Word for ipad. I've subscribed to Office, so have full editing functions. Can Track changes etc in Review, but can't see how to add a marginal Comment.

Comments, like they are in Numbers for OS X, are not really supported in iOS. Normally, they rely on a mouse-over to read them. Since there is no mouse on the iPad, it stands to reason they are not there.
I believe Eric Ross's comments is more geared towards used said Numbers docs on iWork.com.

  • Preview crashes when opening documents

Beginning today, when I try to open documents with Preview, the application freezes. Any suggestions?

Might be corrupted Preview preferences ...
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Preview.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a document with Preview.

  • Disable "Show Tab Order" default when opening document

I've been trying to figure out what I did to my installation of LiveCycle Designer but, on my workstation, it is somehow set to "Show Tab Order" by default when opening an existing PDF form for editing. This means that I have to turn off this feature EVERY TIME I open a document. It's really wearing on me as I open hundreads of PDF forms in a day's time. I'd say I've lost many hours of productivity just turning off this feature... Does anyone know how to turn off this display feature until requested?
    Thx everyone!

Yes... at the moment, PDF final view control via InDesign is lacking... in fact it isn't there at all. This has to be done from Acrobat. However, it is possible to make actions in the action wizard so the process isn't so tedious. I have written about this elsewhere: See it at the final size – view size and Acrobat | Colecandoo!

  • [CS4][AS] Detect problems when opening document

    Hi,
    Can anyone please help me?
I'm trying to write a applescript that opens a indesign file, prints the document, and closes the file again.
Everything works fine but when a file is opend, and there are some missing plugings, assignments, fonts, images, .... the script stops.
How can I  detect if a error appears when opening a file? The file then has to be ignored...
How can I detect if anything is missing before printing the file?
    Thanks
    the script:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
    set myDocument to open inInputFile
print active document using "HighresPreset" without print dialog
    close active document saving no
    end tell

    Hi:
Sometimes you may want your script to proceed even if there are errors opening it. In that case, you can use the Preferences Suite -> Script Preference for user interaction level:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
       tell script preferences
return user interaction level -- see what it's set to currently
--set user interaction level to never interact -- change it
       end tell
    end tell

  • Auto substitute fonts when opening document

I am bringing over several hundred documents from a client into InDesign CS5. Upon opening each document, I'm getting a MISSING FONT dialog with multiple fonts that we do not have on our system. We do have authorized substitutions for each.
My questions is whether we can setup a Font Substitution list (or some other method) where those missing fonts are automatically changed/updated to the fonts we specified.
    Thanks all.....

Yes, with several hundred documents, I'd probably just buy the fonts. Save you a lot of work.
If the documents are properly set up with paragraph and character styles, you'd be able to "import styles" from a document that has style definitions using the new fonts. But any local overrides will stay unless you remove overrides, which may drop some formatting that you actually want to keep (subscripts and italics that were done with keyboard shortcuts instead of character styles, for instance).
It would probably also be possible to export the documents as tagged text, then in a text editor very carefully examine the lines where the old font names show up and globally replace those codes with codes for the new font taken from a tagged text document exported from a file with the new fonts... but that could be more work than using the "find fonts" feature, and I'm sure there are ways it could go wrong.
