New to flash and fireworks

I've worked with frontpage and dreamweaver on simple
websites. Now I want to publish pictures to my site. My problem is
tht I want to install a picture a a hair style. I want to display
the front and bsvk of the style. Which do I use(Flash of Fireworks)
to make it when you drag your mouse across the picture that it
turns from front to back? Thanks in advance for your help.

You could use Either. With Flash you could create a movie
with two frames,
one for each image and create a mouseover effect.
Alternative you could use Fireworks, create the two images,
then load them
into DW and add a swap image behaviour to them.

Help!(confused face) I'm new with flash and don't know why the timers don't work like i would expect

I'm new with flash and don't know why the timers don't work like i would expect. In VB.NET timers are how you move stuff, but it doesn't look like they are ideal for moving stuff in flash at all (really slow). I'm making a game in which you throw a ball around the screen. i am using a timer to get the ball to move. this doesn't work well for 2 reasons; 1: the ball jumps alot, and 2: the timer should eventually run out of time. If anyone can help, i'd be thrilled cus this is my first post here, so yeah

Timing for movement would be more often dealt with using something that operates at the frame rate of the file. The ENTER_FRAME event is usually selected for this purpose.

You could use a Timer to control when to stop the listener from being active.

Flash and Fireworks combination

Macromedia MX: I am working on an image in Fireworks and
would like to incorporate a flash movie into this image so that I
can put it into Dreamweaver for my website. A quick example of the
image is a square inside a square (kinda like a TV set). Is there a
way to layer the Flash movie into the Fireworks image so that the
Flash movie plays inside the inner square but is not visible on the
outer square? (since it would overlap somewhat) Would I import the
image from Fireworks to Flash and work on it there, or import the
Fireworks image into Dreamweaver and insert the Flash movie there?
I am not sure how to go about this task. Thanks for any
suggestions.

You can't "layer"a flash swf into an image, but you can
"insert" the
image and flash into your html separately using
dreamweaver--but IMO
importing the png fireworks png into flash, and just
embedding the flash is

Adobe Bridge Buttons in Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks?

Hello,
Adobe says that the button to connect to Adobe bridge is in
every CS3 application. I can find it in Photoshop, Illustrator, and
even Contribute, a former Macromedia project, but none of the other
Macromedia projects (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks) have one. Am I
missing it, or is this a glitch?

Go to Edit > Prefs > Enable Version Cue. Once you do
that look in the lower left corner of the flash
application - you should see "Open" with an arrow. Clicking
on it will popup "Reveal in Bridge" button.

Flash and Fireworks animations

So I am building a website for myself and I want to put a flash animation in. After the animation comes in, more links will appear on top of the animation after it stops moving and stays stationary. I am wondering what I need to do to get this to function correctly between flash, fireworks and dreamweaver.
Do I build the animation, layout the rest of the site in FW, and then put it altogether in DW?
If so, how would I put a SWF in front of the FW layout in DW? (Because that needs to be on top)

Import graphics from FW into FL and create your animation there. Then publish and place the SWF in a page in DW.

Can someone take a look at my project and give me ideas to reduce lag/optimize it? (relatively new to flash and need help)

I really need to reduce the lag happening in this project. I know practically nothing about action script except for what I've used in this project so please keep that in mind.
Im going to try and break apart the grouped art so its in its most basic form and see if that helps, and also change all my tweens to frame by frame since those two things helped me with an animation I did awhile back that was lagging severely.
But I was hoping someone with more knowledge could take a look and see if there is anything that they know of that I could do to help fix this. I'm working in Flash cs6 and using action script 3.
I have to turn this project in by this Friday (the 20th) so I would love to get this sorted by then but even if I can't I would still be interested in some possible solutions, just for learnings sake.

I am using the JW Player setup assistant and it lists two types of code

My movie does play on through the player on the JW site, after about 30 seconds of waiting for the picture to appear. When I cut and paste the above code into my webpage, I don't get anything. I have dropped the "Player.swf" and "swfobject.js" files into the folder containing the contents of the page that I want the player to appear on.
Where is the exact best place to drop these files?

I'm new to flash and need help with some controls

I'm builidng a site that has a portfiolio of work to display.
When the visitor arrives at the portfolio page he (or she) is
faced with a split panel. The right panel displays a summary of a
client and the work. The left panel displays the work examples
attributed to that client. By clicking forward and backward arrows
in the right panel, the visitor can call the summaries of the
different clients. Landing on a client page 'opens' a separate swf,
called using loader component, that contains the portfolio of that
client's work into the left panel
1. I want forward and backward arrows located on the main
movie in the left panel to control the progress of the loaded swf,
rather than using forward and backward arrows on the loaded swf.
2. I want to prevent the forward and backward arrows in both
panels from clicking beyond frames in the Portfolio area of the
timeline.
3. I want the backward arrow to be innactive on the first
frame, and the forward arrow to be innactive on the last frame.
I have no problems making the arrows work on the main movie
controlling the client summaries. What I don't know how to do is
make them control the movement of the loaded swf, or #2 and #3.

There are different coding methods, depending on where you
put code..
1) Frame code
Click on a frame of the timeline to enter frame code
2) Attached code for movieclips and buttons
Click once on a movieclip or a button then enter attached
code
To make an onEnterFrame event for a movieclip, first chose
either frame code or attached code method. I personally rarely ever
use
attached code because it hides code in places that can be
hard to find. Almost all my coding is frame code, but it's a
personal
choice.
Frame code method to make an onEnterFrame for the main
timeline..
// put this code into a frame on the main timeline
this.onEnterFrame = function()
// do something once per frame at the frame rate
checkMyButtons(); // once per frame we will check on the
button status
OR
Attached Code method to attach an onEnterFrame event to a
movieclip
// click once on the movieclip (don't dbl click it .. stay at
the root timeline level)

Those two types of code are not interchangeable. One type
must be entered into a frame and the other style must be attached
to a
movieclip or you will get errors.
Then there is the DOT syntax way to write frame code that is
equivalent to attaching code..

Buying a new imac - Flash and Photoshop

I'm getting ready to buy a mac. I use it for on the side freelance, mainly using Flash, Dreamweaver and Photoshop. I can't decide whether I want to get a 20" PowerPC imac, a 20" intel imac or just suck it up and get a G5 tower, along with a flatscreen. Currenly I use an old G4 (400 megaherts, 1 GB of RAM.
Basically, I'd like to know how much faster a tower is to the imacs, and how well I can use Flash with Rosetta. I'd like to have really good performance, but don't really want to drop $3,000 on the tower/monitor, and am hoping that the powerPC imac has good performance on these applications.
So, these are my options:
-PowerPC G5 Tower, 2 GB RAM, 256 graphics card
-PowerPC iMAC, 1.5 GB RAM
-Intel iMAC, 2GB RAM, 256 graphics card

graphics card. Compared to my 1.33GHz/768MB G4
powerbook:
Photoshop CS runs faster on the imac
Flash 8 Pro is way faster and more responsive on the
imac
Dreamweaver 8 runs about the same on the
imac

20" imac core duo 2GHz/1GB Mac OS X (10.4.4)
you are running Photoshop and Flash in emulation mode, right? and its way faster than your powerbook? is it stable?

New to ID and looking for some help in getting started

New to ID, purchased it the other day. Working through the Adobe Creative Suite, sorted DW, FW, PS & Flash.
I have ID as and would like to do some stationery ie biz cards, letterhead creation etc.
Does anyone have any good video tutorials on this subject they could recommend.
ID 'seems' to work a little differently to how I thought, only had a little go, so think I need a little show time on how to use it.
I find Adobe go's into to much detail, I am just after the basics of stationery creation first then will work my way round to some of the other great features it seems to offer.

Hmmm it seems ID is a little more involved than I thought. I thought I could, I may still, get to grips with this as I have done with many other Adobe products ;-)
All I need it for is so 'I' can design and format business stationery so it coordinates with the websites I design, often a request I get asked for. While my printers are very good it can take many emails to get the design message across to them. They use ID so I 'thought' I could do the design using colors and logo's etc that I use in webdesign and then send the template they have provided for them to polish off and then print.
I'm hoping a look into Lynda.com and maybe a book or two will get me sorted with this.
Heck, if I can teach myself DW, Flash and Fireworks I'm hoping ID is no more of a challenge ;-)

New at Flash

I am new with flash and i am creating a site and i have

So i basically copied it and now when i make chnages to one
button, it effects the other ones also.

This is because you have many *instances* of the same symbol.
The reason for
this is that if you need the same thing on stage many times,
it is more
efficient in terms of filesize of your finished SWF to use
the same symbol.
What you need to do is:
Select the button you want to change.
In your 'Properties' panel, click the 'Swap' button.
At the bottom of the panel that pops up is a button that
looks like 2
squared with an arrow - click this.
Give your duplicate symbol a new name.
Click OK.
Edit the new symbol.
Repeat until done!

Publishing Flash and embedding

Hello everyone,
I'm afraid I'm very new to Flash and learning as I go, I'm
equally new to webdesign, so apologies in advance.
I've created a flash movie, and I've published it and got my
various files plus HTML file and my alternate JPG.
I can get the movie to work fine in Firefox but not at all in
IE, so I just want the alternate jpg to display instead. However in
the code where it says:

The class just relates to the positioning Ive assigned to the

Question - New to Flash

I am new to flash and building a simple picture slideshow with buttons for the next frame and previous frame to use on a website. I have two questions. 1. How do I get the pictures to start over at the beginning once I get to the last frame? Right now I can only got forward or backward. 2. I tried to use a video clip in the last keyframe and when I test the movie in Flash it works fine but when I posted the .swf file to the website all of the pictures played except the video clip. I am using the following action script:

I am a complete rookie. Any help would be much appreciated. Also any recommendation on where to learn to work with action script would be useful

It looks like you are working with ActionScript 2.0 here where you would actually be hoping to integrate ActionScript
3.0 and above (3.0 is the latest out right now). The two types of AS are very different in structure and 3.0 is much more like JavaScript and other ECMA scripting languages that incorporate Object Oriented Programming (OOP). I don't know a lot about OOP other than it can be used to house Classes and call upon them in an organized fashion to save you a lot of coding in the long haul. Don't worry about OOP right now.
Where you should be looking for resources are online and in books. There are lots and lots of books about ActionScript 3.0--just check your favorite online book retailer and also do a web search for ActionScript 3.0 tutorials. You will probably find one that will explain how to code the logic for you to return to the first frame of your timeline and continue going in the forward direction and vice versa if you were rewinding and wanted to loop to the last frame and continue going in the backward direction of your timeline.
Also, there is the ActionScript 3.0 Reference Manual which ships with Flash and will allow you to look through code examples. Just go to your Help menu for Flash Help.

Motion tween destroying background. New to flash. Please help!

Im brand new to flash and trying to do a motion tween on a graphic symbol but for some reason when I do this it changes my background and covers up my other background drawings. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or how to avoid affecting the background while doing a tween?

Yes, thank you for replying. I made a country scene with hills, a sky, and some other things. I drew a cloud in the sky. I turned the cloud into a graphic object, then tried to motion tween the cloud. When I do so, it works it just changes the whole background to green, the stage background color.

I'm new to flash

Hi everyone. Well I am new to flash and I have a few

forums work best when we dont have to retype the entire
manual - when you get stuck with a specific
