New update to 3.15.5 seems to break bootloader, getting black screen

I did 'pacman -Syu' last night and today all I get is a black screen after post.  It's the same behavior that I get with the live arch image when trying to use UEFI boot.  I am posting this from a fedora live image right now.  I originally had to install Arch via the Fedora live image via chroot, back in April.  The machine is a ThinkPad T440s.
I have chrooted in to get the pacman log from last night.  Here it is

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I can't really tell if it's getting to gummiboot or not, since I only ever had one entry it never went to a selection screen anyway.  I added an entry in /boot/loader/entries that is basically a copy of the one I had in there already, except I removed the resume statement and resume_offset statements.

Yup, we have the ARM.
Thanks a lot! I didn't know.

Althought it is not to me, do you mean from grub2? (in my case, because the boot loading process were stuck just after grub stage2.)

  • MacBook Pro seems to boot up, but black screen

I have a MacBook Pro from around Oct 2006, intel processor, uses 2x512 MB PC2-5300 RAM.
I changed the RAM to a 2x1 GB kit, but found that one of the new RAM modules was dead on arrival. I confirmed this was the case by using the new RAM in a different machine, and sure enough one of the modules just arrived was dead. This is no problem, I can send it back.
    However ...
Now I have put back my old 2x512 MB RAM configuration, which was previously working fine. And my MacBook Pro will boot, no flashing lights indicating an error, and no beeps indicating an error. But the screen is blank. I have checked to make sure the RAM modules are seated correctly (they are) - I also tried switching the RAM modules in the slots just in case there is any funk with that.
I further tried the CRTL + option + P + R to reset the PRAM of the motherboard, that doesn't seem to work.
I'm starting to feel the graphics adapter is dead, since there is no output at all onto the screen.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Look at the black screen after booting under a strong light, either from the front, or through the Apple logo on the top. Do you see faint images for your normal desktop pattern?
A general step would also be to reset the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
And you can try to seek out an external display and see if you get any image.

  • Brand New Out Of Box Satellite C655-S5307 Will not turn on , black screen

    I got this http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/C650/C655-S5307/
A Toshiba 655-5307 laptop for my sis for Christmas.
She said she charged the thing overnight and went to turn it on, the green led power light came on I heard fans come on, black screen then shutdown.
I got this laptop 1300 miles away while I was working out of state thought it would be a great gift.
Please tell me this is a minor problem and easy to fix

try to keep turning the laptop on while it has a charge and is unplugged until the battery completely dies and leave it to sit for 5 days unplugged but with the battery inserted.  Dont touch it or try to turn it on while it sits and the batt loses its charge.  Then plug it in and see the orange charging light.  immediately hit the power button.  The pc may try to boot and fail, but it might actually boot for real!  mine did.  I have seen this problem in this particular model posted all around the internet.  But it seems to turn on only if the battery is completely dead.  hmm.

  • Getting black screens when i open a new window through a link or try to look at the menu options.

When i load a new window/click to go to a website, all i get is a black screen. then when i want to look at my bookmarks all i get is a black pop up screen (cant see anything). if i try to navigate to the other tabs open they become black as well

  • FF 4 (wish I hadn't updated) :) top portion doesn't seem to appear properly on my screen

Hi, I don't know how to add a screenshot here. If there is a way can someone let me know.
After I updated to FF 4 (big mistake for me) the screen just isn't right. At the very top left is the little FF globe icon (not anything like the pictures show it should be..such as an orange bar saying Firefox) with text next to it showing this page: Ask a question Firefox help etc. That's at the very top.. and to the right of that text is nothing but black space over to the minimize/maximize icons. The next line has the file, edit, view, history, bookmarks Tools, and Help words..barely readable and in like a white fuzzy field against black, and again to the right of that.. the rest of the 3/4 of that line is just black space.
    Next line is the tabs..
And next line is left - right arrow.. and my noscript icon..then the location bar, then the google bar.
When I updated an extension.. the Firefox question never appeared asking if I wanted to allow this download.. and what I had to do was to hit the download twice to get it past that point.. and then FF asked the secondary question..is it okay to install..but the first layer asking to allow.. was not there.
Aside from the seemingly many corruptions I've experienced since updating to ff 4 a few hours ago.. (not listed here.) I'd like to know if my screen looks as it should..
Once I updated to FF 4..even the FF demo stuff didn't work.. just plays the first video.. and nothing..no back arrow, no front arrow (in the demo that FF brings me to after I updated)..everything is a mess.
    I have winvista sp1, flash 10.2.153.1
I don't mean to sound frustrated but I can tell that version 4 has corrupted many things (bookmarks..tabs having changing/unstable behavior/ ..and having only a few addons and extensions.. and never had any problems updating for years now with ff..and now.. it's all just a mess..
    Thanks for your help.
Also, if anyone can show me how to subscribe to this thread, please let me know.. There is no longer an option anywhere that I can see since the support forum has changed. I have to bookmark to be able to find it again. I checked everywhere to find where to subscribe.. not under profile and that's my only option given.. using search to find a post on this support forum is a nightmare..

  • I have just set up a new email host. The settings seem simple until i get to outgoing mail port. I don't find a place for that. Advice on Apple support says to click to continue, but there is no click to click. Any help?

In mail settings, how do I find the window or box to insert the outgoing mail port designation?

I am on 10.7, so Mail interface may look a bit different, but here a couple of screenshots - on the (Preferences) accounts page, look at the bottom for outgoing mail server and then choose Edit:
    In the resulting window:
enter the information needed; also click on Advanced and enter any info/port numbers given to you (unless it does it automatically).

  • Installed Mavericks 10.9.2 update recently and getting black screen

Screen goes black like it gets put into sleep mode (but can't be brought back out). I have to do a force power off/on. It seems like this happens when I get a a certain (undetermined) mail notification. I have many gmail and other email accounts connected to this computer.
I have turned them off. I have used other email apps besides apple mail. The only thing I haven't done is not run any email app for a long period of time.
I have taken it too apple store, they did their two tests which take 24 hours to run. No hardware problems they could find. Had a new graphics card put in a year ago. I've reinstalled Mavericks. Did disk permissions/verification. SMC reset. NVRAM reset.
Oddly enough, dont know if this is related, but I also started having Wi-Fi problems at the same time this all started. Router needs to be turned off then on to get it to work. But only every once in a while. NOt as frequent as the screen crashes.
And I started having external hard drive problems too. I eventually disconnected the external and stopped running time machine.
On an old imac too, early 2008.
Here is a recent crash report.

I don't know what the problem actually is, but based on the kernel panic it appears to be something with the video, for example, the VRAM or the GPU.
Since this is an older model can you boot it from a Snow Leopard system to see if the same issue re-occurs? At least this would eliminate OS X as the cause.

  • Since I updated my iPhone 4S to 8.0 I've had nothing but trouble.  Then I updated to 8.0.2 and EVERYTHING got worse!!!  I get black screen in the middle of a text, it is subject to freezing at the drop of a hat.

Alright, APPLE, let's try this!!!!  When in **** are you going to release an update that will allow my iPhone 4S to work anything near like it did before your crappy 8.0, 8.0.1, and last and certainly not least 8.0.2!!!

Restore as new and start again
