Thanks and FYI I wasn't trying to find out your secrets...my
experience just didn't match dzedward's and its because my notebook
is is a 3yr old 1.7Ghz machine coming to the end of its life. The
issue was unrelated to my connection speed as its 18Mb down . And
the flv plays very well in VLC (with no dropped frames and, of
course, minus the sound). The flv (ratatouille) is well encoded,
and appears to have a variable bit rate so its not encoded using
the flash encoder (I wish I could do variable bit rate encodes!).
As for regular
full motion HD over dial-up... forgive me for being
sceptical about that at this point, but I'd be happy to be proved
wrong!
Your video is regular on2VP6F content so its not using a new
"codec". Unless you
compress and
decompress for example a video frame buffer of bitmaps in
memory then you cannot really claim to be using a new 'codec'
because that's what 'codec' means.
If you have done that then I'll say right now that its quite
clever, even if it didn't seem to help me on my machine. If you
want help or advice for re-synching the audio please feel free to
ask questions. I have a couple of ideas that may help if you
haven't already tried them.
One thing I have never been able to achieve is a very
accurate 'onEnterFrame' type event for a video frame (because flv
rate can be different to the swf rate). I can 'simulate' one
because I can check if the video frame has changed, but I don't
know of any native event that lets me know precisely when it does
(and I don't mean using FPS calculations and interval checks). If
you or anyone knows how to do that I'd be keen to hear about it -
for something completely unrelated to HD video I can assure
you!
