Newbie question re: electronic signature

I have a few questions regarding electronic signature in a form I'm developing.
The form will require multiple electronic signatures .. one from the original user making a request, 2 more from approvers, and a final from the person fulfilling the request.  I've defined the 4 signature fields, but in testing, when I electronically sign the first, it forces a save of the document at that point.  That's not a killer, and after reading some related threads I understand why.  But when I re-open the saved document to add an approving signature, I find the entire doc is now locked from accepting any further activity.  BTW, approvers will have to complete additional fields along with adding their signature.
On  a related note, whenever a signature is added, I need to automatically populate a "signature date" field.  I found another thread in this forum that purported to give an example, but the example didn't work in practice, and the document was protected, so I couldn't open it for editing to examine the code.  When dealing with the code, I'm not a  java programmer but have a heavy programming background in several other languages, so expect I can understand fragments and be able to pick up what I need fairly easily.
Any and all help will be appreciated.

If you have EP installed on Windows you can use the same server for your .net applications, but may be your server will need more memory or processor.
You can check the EP PDK for VStudio.net documentation, this document explains how works the integration with .net, for example, IIS is not need it, but you have to have a Windows 2003 server with .net framework installed, this is a fragment of the documentation: "The SAP Enterprise Portal acts as the only web server, therefore IIS is neither needed nor used."
I didn't found any information about performance or salability, I don't know if SAP will release something in the future.

  • General questions regarding capturing electronic signatures

    Hi Guys,
    Have some questions....
Are electronic signatures supported in BPM and if yes any idea what types of signature? what standards are used, whether they are legally accepted and whether this is part of the package or a separate application.
can the processes support multiple signatures at multiple stages, signifying different levels of approval?
Could you provide some idea on how electronic signatures are recorded and retained and how the process or document remains fixed once signed?
    Thanks in advace.

this is more application related. nothing to do with BPM.

  • Can I open a Reader 9 Document with electronic signatures in Reader 10?

I currently have an Adobe Reader 9 document with fields filled out and also with several electronic signatures.
I need to be able to edit this document.
My understanding is that I can only edit or add the typewritter tool only when using Reader 10.
So couple of questions. First, will I be able to open this Reader 9 document using Reader 10?
Second, will I be able to add the typewritter tool once I download Reader 10?
Third, will I be able to make changes to existing form field data, once I add the typewritter tool?
Fourth, will this process invalidate the digital signatures already authenticated?

The "Typewriter tool" is only available in Acrobat Pro. Reader 11 DOES have the ability to "Add text comments" to a PDF but it isn't exactly the same thing. I'm unsure if "comments" will print or not.

  • How do I add an electronic signature to a document?

Hello and thanks in advance for your help.  How do I add an electronic signature to a document?

Glad you stepped in and elucidated my inadequate explanation.
Step by Step explanations of the problem will get Step by Step instructions, but its been a week and the O.P. hasn't elaborated on what they actually want.
You may consider it a horrible answer, what was your opinion of the question?

  • Error message "The document could not be saved. This file is already open" when trying to complete an electronic signature.

Running Adobe Acrobat Professional 10.1.0. I cannot upgrade to newer version because several applications were already tested on this version.
When trying to complete an electronic signature, my users receive the error message ""The document could not be saved. This file is already open".  When they close and open the file again to try to sign again they find a corrupted electronic signature.  Instead of a clean signature with the box colored in light blue they see their signature with the embedeed message Click Here to Verify & Sign with the box colored in grey.
We turned off antivirus in the Sharefolder where the forms are stored and nothing.  We turned off the antivirus on the client and nothing.  We stored the files in another server and nothing.  One workaround is saving the file in the desktop, signing it, and then back to the Sharefolder.  Another is saving the file with a different file name.
I've searched and the only similar thing was caused by the Windows Preview Pane.  See Information Transmogrification: Adobe Acrobat saving a file does not work, displays “File may be read-only”.  No luck with this one too.
Is definitively an intermittent problem.  The users that experience the problem experience it intermittently.
This started to happen when we move our computers to Windows 7.
    Any ideas?

    Correction on Question:
This is a web application and the users need to be able to load the editable .pdf form from the website, edit it and submit it back to the website from within Internet Explorer.
Users began getting the error message:
'The document could not be saved. This file is already open.'
last Friday after having no problems prior to this. Some users can edit the editable .pdf forms on the website and save the file with the same name to the website. Some get the error mentioned in the subject.
We really need help getting this resolved.

  • AdobeForms Central - Editing AdobeForms Central PDFs in Acrobat Pro XI, Electronic Signatures

I have an adobe forms central account, adobe acrobat pro installed on my mac. And I want to create an adobe forms central PDF form that I can edit in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and also create an electronic signature. How should I go about this?

If you created it in Forms Central, you have to edit it there. I believe Forms Central is similar to LiveCycle Designer in that the form created is no longer able to be edited in Acrobat. I might be wrong, but that is my understanding. You add the submit button in Forms Central. Within Acrobat, you should be able to go to the forms menu and Manage Data to save the data to an Excel file. Others better with forms should be by to clarify things, but this should get you started. In the future you might find it better to post a forms question in the forms discussions.

  • Error in Electronic Signatures: CSigDict-1938

In Acrobat Pro 9, about 80% of the time when attempting to add an electronic signature to a .pdf document I get the following error: CSigDict-1938. I have no idea why it mostly doesn't work but sometimes does. Any ideas?

If no one on the forum can answer this, what is the best method for me to receive support from Adobe on this question?

  • Electronic Signatures for my company

    Hello,
I am currently researching how to convert my companies practice from printing forms to using electronic forms. I'm wondering what's the best way to create and distribute electronic signature to every user on our network. I do not want people to have to go through the procress of creating self-signed digital IDs (if they don't have to) because not everyone in the company is computer savy to a actually go through. I'm also looking for users to be able to use their signatures on different computers.
My question is this, what's the best method for a small-sized company to obtain and distribute electronic signatures? Should I look for a third-party product? If so, what are they your recommendations.
    -Robert

    Either.
I must confess to admit, I’m not sure which one would be better for my needs. As a beginner, I guess I’ll need something that’s easy to manage (for both myself and the company) while able to prevent users from signing as someone else.

  • Electronic Signature in a Captivate project

How do you put an electronic signature in a Captivate project?

I'm setting up a small Captivate project with a few text entry questions.
I would like the last question or response to be setup so that it is an electronic signature by the user.
This response will serve as an electronic confirmation that the user agrees that what they answered in the text entry questions
were answered only by them and that they are the truth to the best of their knowledge.

  • Electronic Signatures / SAP Authorizations

Default functionality of the electronic signature is that it validates the SAP MII User.  We, on the other hand, need to validate the SAP User.  One thing comes to mind is to have ABAP Security in place, and all users must have an SAP account.  What happens if we decide to use the UME and when we decide to do the electronic signature it checks the SAP user account?

    Hi Isabelle,
Thanks for your patience in understanding my question.
My primary worry is if i use this exit to have electronic signatures in 4.0b and i know this functionality (Electronic  signatures) is standard in latest versions, what will happen to the electronic signature data that i create until i upgrade.
The electronic signature data is the user id , date and time associated with a notification. I plan to store this in a custom table.
I will appreciate , if you can share with me your analysis.
    Thanks

  • Electronic signatures for Quality Notifications

We are on 4.0b system and thinking of implementing electronic signatures functionality for quality notifications. Since SAP standard does not have this functionality we are planning to use Enhancement QQMA0014, function module exit EXIT_SAPMIWO0_020.
To this effect, we are requesting your guidance for the following
1.Is this customer exit available in latest version of SAP ?
    2. If we store these signatures (user id , date and time) in an custom table, can we move this custom table ,once we upgrade to a higher version.
    3. Is there any other way to implement electronic signatures for quality notifications in version 4.0b.

  • Electronic signature options

When setting up a new electronic signature do I choose:
New PKCS#12 digital ID file (which sounds really confusing)
    or
    Windows certificate store
What is the difference & what is an easy way to explain this to people who will be signing it why they are choosing a particular option?
And how safe & secure is this electronic signature with adobe?  Is there any information from adobe stating its security gurantee?

    Hi Johnny,
This can get complicate, not because it is that hard, but because there are a lot of little pieces when it comes to grasping digital signatures. With that in mind, please don't hesitate to tell me if what I write isn't clear.
First, a bit of what is a digital ID (the thing you use to create a digital signature)? It consists of three pieces; 1) a public key, 2) the corresponding private key, and 3) certificate data such as your name and the validity period. When you create a digital ID it has to be protected because it contains your private key. How it's protected depends on where you store the digital ID.
This brings us to your initial question. When you create a digital ID Acrobat has to know where you want to store it. The Windows Certificate Store (and "store" in this case means a storage location, not a place you buy something from) is managed by the Windows operating system and the concept is the private key is protected by your Windows logon password. Windows does allow you to set a security level where you may be prompted by Windows for  password every time you want to access the private key, or you could just go with if I've logged in that's good enough.
The other place that Acrobat will allow you to save the digital ID is in a file. Like any other file, it's just a piece of data that gets saved to your hard drive (or some network drive) and it has a file extension (in this case .PFX). The big difference between a .PFX file and say a .TXT file is the .PFX  file has to be password protected (again, because it contains your private key and you don't want anybody else having access to that). Thus, as part of the file creation process Acrobat will ask you what password you want to use. The crux of the matter is the .PFX file is itself being encrypted using password security.
As an aside, there are other places that Acrobat can access (read) a digital ID, but these are the only two place that it can save (write) a digital ID. The digital ID could reside in the Mac Keychain (its the Macintosh equvilent of the Windows Certificate Store), or on a smart card or USB token or even a specialized server, all of which Acrobat can access.
Finally, you asked about where to get more info. A good place to stat is http://www.adobe.com/security/digsig.html where you can start to read up on the benefits of digital signatures.

  • IPM Electronic Signature/PDF Watermarking.

    All,
I'm attempting to satisfy a requirement for Electronic Signature or PDF Watermarking for IPM.
I know these utilities are intended for use in UCM, however, I guess my real question is what options
are available to those folks who use IPM?
BTW, I did install and configure the UCM PDF Watermarking component, but cannot get any results to show up in either the
    advanced or basic IPM Viewer.
Am I stuck using something like ITEXT on the LINUX side prior to ingestion of the PDF's into IPM?
I'm up for that - if it's really the only possibility. However, I was hoping to satisfy the requirement without a
    customization like this.
Thanks in advance for feedback . . .
    regards,
    -Phillip

    Hi ,
Is the watermarking configured and working for contents that are checked in from UCM ?
    Thanks

  • Electronic signature and intranet security

    Hi,
I find the 9.0 version of Adobe Acrobat professonal really annoying. I am creating a lot of PDF-documents which are to be presented on my company's Intranet pages. What is really disturbing is that I have to electronically sign all the PDFs - otherwise when opening a PDF document via a link from another PDF document on our intranet the user gets this pop-up question "are you sure this information comes from a trusted source ...etc" due to the security level set for the www. In earlier versions this phenomen did not exist. It is disturbing for the users to get all these pop-up messages when navigating through our intranet which we as a whole consider safe. It causes me a LOT of extra work having to sign and save all documents an extra time every time I make a document change. There must be a way to turn off this ******** or I'm throwing away my Acrobat 9.0 license (anyone who wants to exchange it with an older version.
One more thing - is there an easy way to - one and for all - set that I want all the PDFs I create to be saved without showing all the stuff like the menu row and the tools list when the users opens the PDF. Every time I make a change to a PDF I have to set these conditions over and over again.... not really very user friendly!!!!
