Newer drivers on Support website than on System Update?

Sorry if this is an obvious question but: am I right in feeling that there are newer drivers for my T440s on the Lenovo Support page than are being offered to me when I run System Update?
If so, how come?
Are these betas? Should I be watching the Support page as well as running Update?
Just want to stay sensibly up to date. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

In my experience, System Update can lag behind a model's driver matrix. I routinely look at what TVSU is offering me and then go look at the matrix for comparison. If a TVSU-offered package for something I want matches the matrix, then I let it install it. Generally speaking, though, I'm pretty conservative about driver updates.
Lastly, I don't think I've ever seen a true beta driver in the matrices for my ThinkPads.

There should be a new System Update like good old Software Installer

I believe that there was once a program called Software Installer that was replaced by System Update. I liked the old one because of its clear layout and information: There was a column with software installed, column with current version and column with most up-to-date version of the software.Then you had checkboxes to indicate which programs you want to be updated, check them and start the update and it worked fine. In fact Productivity center still uses similar dialog for installation
What I don't like about System update:
1. Half of the time the Package server is unavailable. Everybody who ever used System Update knows that.
1a. While the package server is unavailable the packages (I mean software install files) are available through tthe software.
2. Dowloading 400kb of update list (or whatever) takes forever. At least its the longest 400 kb I've seen on my internet connection. This is especially ridiculous when you can just go to support website and check the updates yourself in seconds. Why can't System Update just comunicate with the website. It serves the same purpose and?
3. you can't use any of the information from the previous session: I have downloaded graphics driver and it is on the hardrive but it will install only after System update connects to database. I can install it manually but couldn't system update display it as some sort of avaible file?
4. There are four tabs to display my 3 updates, couldn't it all fit in one window? Also I have to expand the view to see my current and up-to-date version of software. I just click to install and I never notice which version was installed actually. Later when having problems I can't tell which version of software I'm having problems with.
5. Sometimes updates just dissapear. I once uninstalled Access Connections and since then System Update never showed it as an available update.
The way I see it the System Update software should rewritten almost fully. There is no way that the software that is suppose to help you update the system is slower and less reliable than a user writing down the updates, downloading and installing them through the website.
Having that said I'm not totally negative, for example it is a great feature is that an update is unatended for a group of updates. Yet it seems that System Update is somehow on the worng track.

Trouble downloading drivers / System Update software

Just upgraded my Thinkpad T61 to Windows 7 and almost everything is running smoothly.....I can't seem to download any drivers from the Lenovo website, including the System Update for Windows 7 software. (I get to the "accept the terms" page and accept but then nothing). Is this a problem on Lenovo's server end?
Right now I'd just like the hotkey functionality as well as my bluetooth functionality back. Any suggestions?

They seem to be having problems with their proxy server, or at least that's what message I'm getting. You can always go to the driver matrix page for your T61 and download it from there:

Original drivers for E-Mu 0404? Only updates are available

Hi,
I reinstalled Windows yesterday, expected to just head to the website and download the latest soundcard drivers and be good. But the only ones available on www.emu.com or creative's sites are update drivers. You still need the original CD that came with the card. I cannot find mine anywhere, I have moved since I bought my card, it might aswell be thrown away ages ago. E-Mu themself say they can't put the CD drivers for download for various stupid reasons, even though they are distributed on a CD. I read on the EMU forum that someone had downloaded an ISO file of the 0404 CD from Creative's website, but I can't find such a thing. That would be a full image of the CD, and would help me alot. I'm a recording artist, and right now I'm left with a useless soundcard, no sound on my system, and a manufacturer that just crosses their arms and say "Well you should have kept the CD in a safe place then. Poo on you, we don't care".. Very bad form...

A friend of mine in a music store helped me out. I borrowed a CD from him. I think it is strange that they can't put the full drivers on the website along with the updates. They say some people don't like 25+MB downloads, well then they can just use their CD.
It should still be available for those emergencies without having to wait for weeks to get a new one from the other side of the world.
There should be no problem since the drivers already are distributed on the CD. But anyways, problem solved and my sound is alive again :-)

TPT2 System update problem after Windows 10 clean install

Hello, Today I did clean install of Windows 10 on my Thinkpad tablet 2. Chose "keep nothing" to have fresh new Windows. Then Installed newest ThinkVantage System update app. Hoewever when I tried to search for drivers with this app it failed and I got a messege "There are no applicable packages found for your system". ... just open a command line window ("cmd.exe") with administrative priveliges and run the command "powercfg -sleepstudy". This generates a powercfg-HTML-Report in the "Windows\System32" folder where you can drill down the cause for power draining in connected standby mode. Typically WLAN / Bluetooth driver cause the problems - or applications that run with massive CPU-usage in the background. Are you still logged in into WIndows when you turn off the tablet? Then frist try to lock out of Windows and enter the connected standby mode. Then analyse with the powercfg tool. Afterwards repeat this procedure with your logged in WIndows account. With this approach you can compare the basic windows power drain with the power drain including app usage. Good luck! Bernd

Thinkvantage System Update 3.14.0031 Failure

T400. Vista
Ran SU and received message notice "Your copy of SU needs to be updated". When I click OK, the download tries to begin, but immediately get error box "system failed to download. Make sure you have an active network connection".
Close.
Next message box "SU failed to install. You can also install from lenovo.com/support."
I downloaded System Update 3.14.0031 and installed. Rebooted and ran getting the same result as above.
Edit: Same problem on a different computer running XP. Must be an issue at lenovo.

Clarification On Systems Updates

Being relatively computer new, I was under the impression that system updates only alerted you (me) to the updates that were relevant to my system. Is this the case? Or are all/any updates presented and it is up to me to figure out which ones I need, etc.?

Hi. yes you are right, SW update only advises on the updates relevant to your system. For example, if you have an Intel machine you will only get informed about Intel updates. It is recommended that system updates and security updates always get installed but you might like to check the relevant forum for a couple of days after the update's release to see if there are widespread problems. Enhancement updates, like for example an iPhoto update that improves card creation, can be considered voluntary.

System update makes Windows 7 on both T440s and E531 not starting up

I install windows 7 on both a Lenovo E531 and a Lenovo T440s and afterwards install system update. The first time system update ask me to restart, Windows wont start up again, It reach the Windows logo and then turn black where only the mouse shows. Does system update have problems or is it one of the drivers already installed which colide with system update?

How do I Re-Install Lenovo System Update

Hi guys, System Updated crashed everytime I ran it so I posted a note asking for help well now I have a new "problem", I am unable to run System Update, when I do I get an error message advising "you can only run one instance of System Update at a time and System Update is aready running". That would be fine except System Update is NOT running so whatever glitch I had before has morphed into this latest glitch and my question is, can someone please advise me HOW TO RE-INSTALL SYSTEM UPDATE?

check out for any reigistry entires where system update is still present...it requires .net framework 2.0 to run i guess if its not opening do one thing install it and use the automated recovery solutions where you can find a direct link for running system updates
fcourse you must be having system update installed on your computer first!

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

I score Orchestral and since the new VSL library is completely 24bit i need to at least be able to adress 8 gig of RAM (16 gig would be better
To APPLE: Guys please be aware that us Pro Users were always eager to adress those 8 gig of RAM in our G5s, but were dissapointed in the fact that Logic FCP etc, were never turned into 64 bit apps.....so adressing 4 gig was it for us........
I guess another way to ask the same question would be whether "Conroe" is 64 bit, as that is what is required to adress more than 4 gig of RAM.....

From what I've read Conroe will be 64-bit. A google search of "64-bit conroe" will give you a few sources and more info.

It doesn't need to be a 64-bit application. It just needs to have 64-bit memory addressing. Here is a good article if you're interested.

I don't have any experince with VSL, but I did have a quick experience with Kontakt 2 (I sold it). The Kontakt 2 forum has a post from the moderator that explains some issues around Kontakt's memory issues.

The complete rewrite of the audio engine might be the general issue with utilizing more than 4Gb of memory. But, I am not sure...I think there is another issue with how the OS handles memory usage.

New 80GB ipod - red cross with support website

I was connecting my new ipod (only 3 weeks old) to my macbook leopard when suddenly a red cross symbol came up on the screen with the address of the mac support website at the bottom. I went to the website and it suggested I put it in disk mode. The apple sign came up as described - but straight after I toggled the hold button not roughly six seconds after holding the select and menu button as it suggested. Next when I tried to switch 'immediately' to the select and play button, it returns to the red cross with the web address - not to the disk mode screen.
I have tried holding them down for different lengths of time, swapping quicker and faster etc but no change. If I repeat holding the select and menu buttons then the apple symbol goes away momentarily and comes back.
Im on holiday at the moment - so if theres nothing to do but send it off to be fixed then it means Im without my ipod for the long traveling hours - the reason I bought it when I did - only 3 weeks ago - I hadnt expected it to break so soon. I also have a macbook and before that had an ibook and they both had early problems. I am always conflicted with apple - they make the best most advanced and creative products but they are always flawed and undurable - quick to break and succumb to errors. I am starting to think that I may just slum it out with pc in future - it may be better in the long term.
Ironically enough Im not even sure if I kept the HMV receipt at home = I really should have learned after past experiences with apple products. If anyone could save me the hassle and money of paying for repair (if I cant find the proof of purchase) by suggesting another way to fix it for the rest of my journey - I would really appreciate it!

Ok researched online and managed to get it in Diagnostics mode.
Ran a test on HDD Specs and HD Smart Data - both resulted in "Error! Diag Halt" flashing across the bottom of the screen.

Use a Digital to Analog Audio Converter like this one from MonoPrice. It won't play 5.1 audio but stereo tracks should convert just fine.
