NForce2 Unified Driver Question

I have an MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR with an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ mounted on it with 2 sticks of Mushkin Cas 2 DDR (1 meg total) running in dual channel. My OS is XP Pro. I downloaded nVidia's newest nforce2 unified driver and installed it a few days ago, after first uninstalling the old driver. If I go into device manager and click on the plus sign next to System Devices, and I look at the resulting list, I see 4 entries in the list that read NVIDIA nForce2 Memory Controller, and one entry in the list that reads NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 Memory Controller. If you highlight each one of the 5 entries (one at a time) and right click on them, and then click on properties, you will see that it says under the General tab "No drivers are installed for this device". However, if you click on the Driver tab, it lists a driver for each of the 5 entries (in this case it is the 3.3.8.0 driver version). Is this normal? Common sense says that if it says no driver is installed, then XP shouldnt be telling me the driver version that actually is installed. Please advise.

I just had a look at the Memory cotrollers in my computer and there are 5 listed . The first has a driver and the other 4 read like , drivers are not needed or installed .
From past browsing through my computer I remember this as normal , but wait for the expert and my opinion is , yes normal .

  • [nForce] K7N2G-L w/2003 Server - NVidia chipset & driver question

Hello to all... I didn't want to cross post but was hoping that someone may have some guidance regarding my post in the "retired motherboards" forum... any help would be GREATLY appreciated... thanks in advance

PS- I fully listed my configurations in the actual post

Thanks for the response... I will take the chance and repost my question and my configurations to this forum... thanks
I work for a small company and we have a number of K7N2G-L boards with AMD 2100+ and 512M Corsair TwinX 3200LLPT memory. The boards are brand new and even though I know this isn't the best of solutions, I wish to use them for some 2003 server systems. As you would expect for a server setup I am not overclocking anything. I am also not turning on the modem, sound, parellel port and I may or may not turn on the USB ports but for now they are all off. I will definitely use the onboard video and NIC with the idea that if they ever fail I will have some cards on hand as a back-up. I have included the configurations below for each server but my question is simply:
Which chipset version and individual items should I actually install and which video driver should I install in order to provide the most stability for 2003 Server since their is no actual WHQL 2003 release.

  • Totally far out graphics driver question

This might be a really dumb question, but the wheels in my brain won't stop spinning.
OK, I'm running arch64 and I have three graphic cards in my system. A pci-E Geforce 7900gtx, pci-E Geforce 6800ultra, and a old pci Geforce4mmx. Right now I have 3 monitors, one per card set up as independent x screens. The Geforce4 runs a 21 inch nec multisync crt next to two dell fpw dvi's. I plan on adding two more dell fpw's, one to the 6800 and one to the 7900 card as they're twinviews. I do a lot of cad work using pro-E and the setup would be very very cool and helpfull. I don't want to ditch my geforce4mmx. It's a workhorse card that runs great despite it's age, and likewise the crt monitor. The geforc4 requires the legacy driver. I was thinking, wouldn't it be great to be able to run the nvidia unified driver and legacy driver at the same time. At first it sounded impossible, but then I thought, what if I created a 64bit chroot containg the neccessary pkgs with the nvidia legacy driver installed. Then install the unified driver in the normal 64bit system. Then create some kind of bash startup script, perhaps with an if statement, pointing to the 64bit chroot , not to use it as a chroot, but like to fake linux out pointing to that directory path so only the gforce4 would see and utilize the legacy driver while the other two use the unified driver in the normal system.
I know this sounds really far fetched, or even silly, but I can't help but ask if it might be feesable?

I'm sure your right, but I was just thinking of a way to fake the kernel out to some how run both by havine the exact same kernel, one installed in a fake dir set up with nvidia legacy. Then somehow fool the system so that only the busId corresponding to the Geforce4 points to that fake dir. Now that I had more time to think about it, if by some slim chance It could work, I think I would almost need a complete duplicate system (base) installed next to the valid one, which is definately not practical.

  • R12 adpatch sorts out which actions in unified driver?

    Hi,
This is regarding Patching in R12.
I have read in the documentation "Oracle Application Patching Procedures" on p 5-14 which says
"Apply the unified driver to all APPL_TOPs, and AutoPatch sorts out which actions in
the unified driver are required for the current APPL_TOP."
Is this means that if nodes are:
    I) DB & CM
    II) Web & Forms.
    - the adpatch should not apply any forms on first node.
    - and should not apply any reports on seconde node.
But in my case it is not doing like that.
Question: How can i ask adpatch to skip applying forms(fmx) files on I node and reports on II node?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to R12 Documentation, adpatch should handle it (form should be generated on form node and reports on reports node).Correct, but you should end up with the same files placed on each application tier (this is the concept of unified APPL_TOP which make it easier to run the application services from any of the application tier nodes when the other node is down.
I think posting log files will not be efficient because the files are very big. I do not see the attachment option here.I believe you do not have to.

I think here is the problem but not sure how it shows YES for all the nodes.
I am sure we selected different services for different node while installing. Is this a shared APPL_TOP or shared application tier file system? If yes, then you need to fix the values in the context file as these context values represent the services that are actually running on the node -- See (Note: 745580.1 - Apply Patches in a Shared Application Tier File System Environment) for details.
Why oracle has removed this feature from R12 where it was a good option in 11i?What feature? The option of generating Oracle forms and libraries is still available and can be run from adadmin.

But still the documentation says adpatch will sort out which actions to be performed on which node? what this meansI believe this means that adpatch knows what file has to be run on each node. For example, when running certain scripts adpatch is aware of where those scripts should be run.

  • Driver questions/help

hi, i installed k8n neo2 mobo and 64 3500+ (winchester).  started it up and went straight into xp, all is well. it starts recognizing new hardware and doesn't catch about half of them. fine... i install the nforce 3 drivers that came with mobo (on cd). for some dumb reason i did not grab latest drivers from msi. anyways, it finishes the hardware recognition/install and reboots. pc posts but won't go past xp splash screen. i reboot and use last know working configuration. download updated nofrce drivers from msi, delete exisiting nforce drivers and try again. same thing but now i cannot use last known working config or any of the safe mode options to get into to xp.
so...i put in xp pro cd and run repair. upon reboot i get a bsod (stop:0x0000007B) that relates to innacessible boot device. fine, i re-run repair with f6 and use nforce3 sata raid driver floppy that came with mobo. aha! success and now i am back into business. now, i am leary of installing the update msi force 3 driver set (gart, ide, etc) since it fooked my pc last time...any suggestions?
    tia

I would get the latest nvidia drivers from Windows XP - Unified Driver Version: 5.10 These are far more upto date than the ones on the MSI site or your CD.
When you run the setup uncheck items you don't want installed. If you are happy using Realtek Audio uncheck that & IDE drivers if you don't want these.
It's best practise to ensure that Windows is fully updated to SP1 or SP2. If SP1 ensure that the latest DX9 is installed (integrated into SP2)
To avoid any issues it does no harm to create a restyore point b4 install.
It's most probably the earlier version of the IDE drivers that caused your issues using the older driver set.
    luck

  • No additional properties & driver question

    Hello
Just got done building a new computer and put the  MSI NX6800GT TD256 card in and had some driver questions.
I used the drivers that came on the CD for now and everything is working fine, but when I go into the advanced settings and click on the 6800 tab theres no where too adjust direct3d and opengl settings. Supposedly theres and additonal properties tab.......
And are you guys using the drivers from MSI or are you using the Forceware drivers from Nvidia....
    Thanks for the help!!

Try using the Catalyst 4.12 final drivers! They really boosted my scores!  Get the driver here:

  • K8T Master 2 FAR; Hard Drive Questions About

    Greetings!
I just got off the Google bus and stubbed my toe on your doorstep.  What luck!
I have many questions, and it's getting harder to find answers for a mainboard that's not being sold "new" anymore.  I did see some other topics that go along lines similar to my own, but I figured it would be a good idea to open a new thread with my specific questions.
I have decided to split my questions into three parts.  This is part one, "hard drive" questions.
    HARD DRIVE RELATED:
Western Digital recently announced a new high-capacity SATA Raptor drive, with 150 GB of storage:
    1)  Can I mount two of them into my K8T Master 2 FAR system and "hardware stripe" them for Windows/XP?
....1A)  If yes, is there a minimum recommended BIOS that I should be running?
....1B)  If no, then would it be feasibile to "software stripe" them in Windows/XP Pro?
If I decide to proceed, I will be well-prepared to accept the risk of data loss that would occur if one drive were to crash.
I currently run my system with a removable SATA drive caddy for my system drive.  This makes it easy to swap OS's by swapping hard drives without opening my CPU case.  If I go with a dual-striped SATA drive arrangement and two Raptors, then I'll replace that removable caddy with a unit that can accomodate two SATA drives.
....1C)  Once in a blue moon, I get a BSOD after having swapped SATA drives.  It happens when I first boot Windows/XP after having run Linux.  Hot-swappable claims notwithstanding, I always swap drives while the system is powered down, although I don't typically shut off the hardware switch at the power power supply.  Are there any known issues or reports of other people having similar occurrences?
I also run some IDE devices for data and archival purposes.  My system is typically set up as follows:
    CH 0/0 - Data drive
    CH 0/1 - DVD burner
    CH 1/0 - Data drive
    CH 1/1 - Data drive
Recently, my system stopped "seeing" any hard drives on CH 1 drive 1.  Known good drives won't show up in the BIOS, and auto-detect doesn't "see" a drive in that position.  I have tried more than one drive, and the problem stays on that channel and position.  I swapped cables with a known good cable, and the problem stays on that channel and position.  For the time being, I have disconnected one of the data drives...but I'd really like to resolve this issue if possible.
....1D)  Are there any known problems or issues with "disappearing IDE devices" in the K8T Master 2 FAR?
    Thanks in advance!

Can't say, this is the first time I hear about SATA caddies....
Maybe a bad contact or so?
Sata is pretty sensitive to connection problems, or even folded cables for that matter...

  • Z68A-GD65 (G3) build in progress, have a driver question

First, everything works so far. Have installed most drivers, all windows updates.
Have some misc driver questions not covered in MSI docs or driver WWW page.
Question: MSI's list of updated drivers for this MB includes the following.
Note that the title doesn't list Z68 (typo, or ?), so should I install this driver?
Title: Intel Management Engine Driver for P67/H67
      Description: System & Chipset Drivers
      Ver: 7.0.10.1203
      Date: 2011-03-11
      http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z68A-GD65--G3-.html#/?div=Driver&os=All
Also, I did not install the following driver:
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Floppy Driver (F6)
Reason: no floppy in system (whats a floppy? )
Should I install this for some other reason?
    Thanks for a great forum.

Strictly speaking all the needed drivers should be on your DVD. You can always update them with the drivers on the MSI site if they are later ones and you have issues, otherwise the drivers that shipped with the board should be fine.
Here is a bit of history on floppy drives http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floppy_disk
Yes, some people still use them.
    Quote
Floppy disks are used for emergency boots in aging systems lacking support for other bootable media, and for BIOS updates since most BIOS and firmware programs can still be executed from bootable floppy disks. If BIOS updates fail or become corrupt, floppy drives can be used to perform a recovery

  • New K8N Neo4 Platinum build. Help, Nforce4 driver question?

I am building a new K8N Neo4 Platinum system (see my sig).  I wanted to get the latest Nforce4 drivers, before installing XP.  I noticed on the Nvidia website a 5.10 Unified Driver download and a 6.66 AMD download.  Which should I use?  It looks like the versions in the 5.10 Unified Driver are actually older than what is in the Nforce4 drivers, from the MSI site.  If I use the 6.66 AMD drivers, should I make a SATA Raid Driver floppy, from them, to use during the XP install?  Any advice is appreciated.

just do it from a floppy, LiveUpdate is crap
and yes you HAVE to F6  these drivers on Windows install  if you plan on using SATA or you cannot boot from SATA
unfied drivers are NOT FOR NFORCE 4.  You MUST use the NF4-specific 6.66 (or earlier)
Unified Drivers are specific only to nForce 1/2/3.  AMD and Intel each have specific and unique driver sets for nForce4.
download 6.66, extract and explore the folder
go to IDE->Win2K->SATARAID and copy everything in this folder to a floppy
make two floppies just to be safe
you cannot use CD, you MUST use floppy because Windows will look in a: only
as soon as Windows install starts you will see a screen that says "Press F6 to install third party SCSI or RAID driver"... hit F6 and insert floppy and after a few minutes, you will get a screen that says"
"Press S to install other drivers..."
    press S
next screen comes up, first select and install "nVidida Raid class driver (required)" -->hit enter
back to "Press S to install other drivers..." screen
    press S again
screen wil come up again, this time choose and install ""nVidia nforce storage controller(required)"
one more time back to "press S to instal other drivers...", this time just hit ENTER
    now you're good to go

  • Nforce2 Driver question

Eversince i did a reformat on my rig(the one in sig) I seem to be getting random bsod's Ive run memtest and memory seems fine but it points out to be memory related, Tried the memory swap and one stick Cant get it to bsod its that random, Just wondering if it could be driver related as this memory works fine in the other rig(same Setup as one in sig) So I was wondering if i uninstall the nforce2 system drivers and reinstall them, should i use drive cleaner like we do with graghics drivers, I can at least try that and see if it helps I can switch stuff from one comp yo another, And i did turn off auto restarts in case it happens again. Thanks DOK

I was trying some tweaks and screwed things up and i couldnt get it back to the original state also i kept getting memory problems as in first post but tried the ram in the other machine and it all worked fine in that one, so i thought it might be a driver problem, Memory controller got corrupted but when i uninstalled the system drivers and rebooted, guess what, No boot no nothing, So i did a repair and now everthing is back to normal but hey if you dont try something new you wont learn right.  Well anyways its all up and working fine now Thanks guys. • Iphoto/aperture unified library question

I have just bought a new iMac to replace an ageing one.  I succesfully copied my iphoto library to the new machine (via a separte hard drive).  I checked the library opened fine in iPhoto and everything was there (all fine).  I then bought and installed Aperture on the new machine and pointed it the the iphoto library which it opened (after first upgrading it) with no problem.  So I now effectively have a "unified" iPhoto and Aperture library, although in practice I do not intend to use iPhoto any more, I will always be working in Aperture.
I now have a simple question,  my photo library in the Finder (sits in the Pictures folder) is still identified as "iPhoto Library", does this matter?.
Now I believe I can (if I want) simply rename this to "Aperture Libary" or whatever else I want to call it but this made me wonder whether there is any distinction between a unified library that began life as an iPhoto library (as in my case) or a unifed library which began life as a Aperture library.  Specifically, is there any change I could or should make to my library given I only ever intending using it with Aperture - or once you have a unified library is there really no differance at al between a library labelled as an  "iPhoto Library" and a library labelled as an  "Aperture Library" - other than in name?
    Thanks for your help.

    No it makes no difference.

  • Driver question - my all in one printer will print but not scan

    Hi
I have an HP c4280 (you know, the all in one printer you could get for free with the mail in rebate in 2007). I just plug it in and my mac recognizes it as a printer, and it prints fine, but image capture does not recognize it as a scanner. Before I upgraded to leopard I had all of HP's stupid software installed but after upgrading to leopard it didn't work (surprise). A lot of other things didn't work either so I did an erase and install and now everything works beautifully (I feel like I have old Tiger back, but better). However, I do not want to install HP's stupid overbloated and highly unnecessary mountain of software on my nice new clean system (I have turned into kind of an apple-only purist I guess ^_^). I checked HP's website and all they have is the same ginormous software bundle for download, and the installation wizard does not allow the option to install only components of the software (its all 28 programs or nothing). So, my question is, does anybody know where I can find only the driver I need (or WHAT driver I need) to make this printer compatible with image capture so I can scan?

You need to download the full featured driver from the HP site, and it also seems HP has an update for the Leopard installation as well.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&produc t=3192753&lang=en
I too have a C4280 and wasn't able to use my scanner until I had fully installed the HP software.

  • Transferring Itunes data and Library to new hard-drive question

    Hello,
First I want to state that I made a mistake when I transferred my music to a new bigger harddrive. My bad.
I look here for some guidance, I read this article after the fact: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive so it was too late for me and I got these "!" signs on all my song. I have over 5000 songs (not including podcasts, movie and TV shows.
I tried to move my library (succesfully) in my new hard drive so I could keep my laptop clean of all music.
I though I will be clever and replace the target links into the "Itunes Library.xml" and "Itunes music Library.xml" files. Well not so clever because I still have the issue.
My question: Does anybody knows what else should be done to fix this issue (if fixable)? I would try to avoid linking all my music one at the time by using the "locate" function that ITunes pop up when you try to start a song.
It is also too bad that you must do it one song at the time, I calculated that if I do 20 songs a day it's going to take me 250 days and more...
Thanks for any idea/solutions you may have
    Thierry

I though I will be clever and replace the target links into the "Itunes Library.xml" and "Itunes music Library.xml" files. Well not so clever because I still have the issue.
iTunes does not use these files.
They are created only for other apps to access the iTunes library.
Does anybody knows what else should be done to fix this issue (if fixable)?
See this -> iTunes Track CPR v1.3
"This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx). Any correct files found will be added to iTunes and will replace the "dead track" in each playlist it appears in (except Smart Playlists). Most tag data will also be rescued."

  • Internal vs External hard drive question???

I have a very basic question about OSX and its treatment of drives...
If I have an external drive (either firewire or SATA using an Express34 card) and I select it, at boot time, as the boot drive, does OSX really treat this drive as if it were the internal drive or is there some underlying difference?
Is there a difference between an external firewire and an external SATA drive (other than the I/O speed)?
What I'm getting at is this. I want the ability, using the 'opt+cmd' (or whatever the key seq is) option, at boot time, to select either the internal drive or an external drive to be "THE" drive, as far as OSX is concerned.
Asuming that both drives have at least a bootable OSX partition, I'd like for the external drive to have OSX AND maybe another partition for maybe Windows or Linux.
At boot time if I select the external drive as the boot drive will it act like the internal drive and allow me to install a BootCamp partition? Can I manuly repartition it (while its a secondary drive usng iPartition perhaps)? Can I install a boot loader that will allow me to select an OS after initially selecting the external drive with the 'opt+cmd' option?
I'm looking for the ability to basicaly select different drives as the "internal" drive, much like you would using the jumper and/or cable selects in a Mac Pro or even a PC based system.
Is this even possible? id it is, is it possible with firewire or express34 card driven SATA drives?
Sorry if this is confusing, I'm having a hard time articulating exactly what i want to do...
    Thanks in dvance,
    Peter

Yes. One cool thing to do is create a bootable backup on an external drive, and use it for OS/upgrade testing - think Leopard. To me this is one huge advantage over Windows systems. You can back up the hard drive and prove it works. Also allows for faster recovery of not only data, but installed applications and settings. I always create a fresh backup to my external FW drive before going on trips.
