NFS Troubles

I'm having a terrible time with NFS clients on OSX going to an ubuntu server 9.04 nfs share.
Basically I have a media server that works great with linux->linux connections, and even my set top box(tvix)->linux connections. When I try connections from OSX->linux it looks ok, browsing, and through terminal checking out the share etc, but as soon as I try to add media from the share to itunes(leaving the files on the share) or even now with songbird, the application hangs and throws a bunch of errors on the linux side:

The nfs share is exported as read only on the server side, and in diriectory utility i have it set as read only, and am using -P as another option.
I've also noticed that when its not read only, it corrupts files on the linux box. The share is a reiserfs LVM2 logical volume group across 3 drives.
What really baffles me is it runs fine from linux. I've been able to import all the music to amarok on my ubuntu work laptop so I really feel that something is not set correct on the OSX nfs client. any help would be appreciated as I don't want to dupe the music on the mac just so my wife can load her ipod.
this is on a gigibit network btw.

Those look like drive errors.
Nothing an NFS client can do should be able to cause those.
I would hope so, however I only get those errors on the server side when I try to run itunes from the mac to the share. The share is setup using "directory manager"
Does anything get logged in the Mac's /var/log/system.log (and/or /var/log/kernel.log on 10.6)?
checking, having trouble recreating today as now when I open itunes, I get share disconnect messages; even though I can go to the share through finder and play music with vlc; Does itunes not play well with automount? I think that's how directory manager sets up the share
I've also noticed that when its not read only, it corrupts files on the linux box.
How so? Is the NFS client actually trying to write to the files?
I wouldn't think so, I've just noticed that whenever I fought with itunes and NFS in the past, files randomly got set to ???? permissions on the server side; I would hope that brand new month old drives could handle itunes reading files and a media player reading files at the same time. shouldn't cause file permissions to corrupt. a reboot fixes the issue;
Or is the corruption possibly related to the drive errors being logged by the Linux kernel?
I would by that, but the drive errors only happen when I futz with itunes on the mac->nfs shares
What really baffles me is it runs fine from linux.
I imagine iTunes is a very different beast from the programs you have on Linux. And thus it would have a significantly different access pattern.
Can you reproduce these problems without iTunes?
Can you read/copy the same files iTunes is trying to read?
reproduced with songbird loading library also; the files itunes is trying to read play fine on a media player, and on amarok on my linux laptop
Thanks

  • Xserver Tiger Nfs trouble

    Hi,
We have an Xserver with Tiger 10.4.11 associated to an Xraid and Xsan. The filesystem is shared with nfs on Linux computer (Fc8,Fc10).
Recently we have trouble with the Nfs Share : some 32 bits clients can't write file on the filesystem ; I see some issue :
    - the first one is to pass the -nfsvers2 parameter, but another trouble comes with the file size limitation to 2Go.
    - I'd like to try another issue with the -client32 parameter but I don't see where put this option on the Xserve.
Has anyone have those trouble yet and try this issues ?
    regards
    N. Ménard

How easy would it be to perform an Archive and Install, just on your machine? It is easy enough, with one caveat:
All your third party Contextual Menus, Prefernce Panes, and Application Support, etc, would disappear, and need reinstalled. Examples are keyboards needing drivers, or Stuffit, if you use it's contextual menu features.
This might "clean out" the problem.

  • Qadmin cluster setup

Hi - I have an iMac and a macbook, both running 10.7.3, same version of Compressor 4, fcpx, and M5.  I am trying to set up a cluster with both these machines, with the laptop as cluster controller and the imac to do heavy lifting.  the qmaster service browser on the book shows both machines with all their service nodes present and accounted for, but greyed out - I can't move them to a cluster controller definition.  I got it to work once when setting the imac to cluster controller, then that stopped also.  Also, when I set up a cluster on the imac, I was able to allocated book services to the cluster, but the jobs never took advantage of them.  Is there some sort of comm link setup I am missing?
    Please help.
    .... clueless

No, we're singing off the same sheet.....
I have another clustering tidbit.  If you embed videos in Motion 5, as one is apt to do, via linked media, and submit this job to a cluster set up according to the Matt Hughes arrangement, the service nodes drop the linked videos (substituting a filled alpha of sorts), and the resulting rendering will not feature said items.  It appears that linked media of that nature is not made available to the service node to do its work.  And if it is intended to do so, but probibited by some Lion rights protection feature, the 'successful' outcome of the Qmaster job status is masking any such trouble.  I know this because I checked all the segments processed by the nodes vs cluster controller (where the media resides) and - yep - rendering failures are only on the nodes for linked media.
Ergo: any complex Motion products are best processed in situ where all the linked media resides.  My guess is its just more NFS trouble, but the fact that Qmaster tells you that everything is ok means there are fundamental protocol failures.

  • Trouble with mount nfs

I want to mount some nfs exported directories from a couple linux machines, but I'm not having any luck with the two ways I know of doing so.
Using the 'connect to server' from the go menu ('nfs://host/path') doesn't ever finish -- the 'connecting' window just stays open for many minutes with the barber pole going.
Running sudo mount -t nfs host:path dest_mount in a terminal results in:
NFS Portmap: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out
    Ideas much appreciated,
    Barry

    Some further info:
I was able to mount an nfs share from one machine (running CentOS 5.0) after changing the exports file -- adding options root_squelch and insecure.
The other nfs share, from a machine running CentOS 4.5, gives me the port mapper error. At a glance, I don't see anything different in the configuration of the two machines. /etc/exports has the same options.
I'll look more closely but if someone has an insight ...

nothing is mounted (i rebooted before applying). not sure why it's giving that NFS error. it's consistent tho.. if i reboot and try the manual install of the patch, I get the same error.
after the failed patch "installed" it left my sound not working... so far everything else appears to work. any thoughts on fixing this are appreciated. i ran diskutil and 'fixed perms' and 'verified disk' ... patch still fails.

Try reinstalling the patch. If you get all the way through the installation, then see if your sound works. If not, then I suggest you do a repair install of Sno by installing Sno over Sno as in an upgrade install. Such an install, while usually very safe, still is an install so be appropriated backed up if you proceed.

  • QMASTER hints 4 usual trouble (QM NOT running/CLUSTEREd nodes/Networks etc

All, I just posted this with some hints & workaround with very common issues people have on this forum and keep asking concerning the use of APPLE QMASTER with FCP, SHAKE, COMPRESSOR and MOTION. I've had many over the last 2 years and see them coming up frequently.
Perhaps these symptoms are fixed in FCS2 at MAY 2007 (now). However if not here's some ROTS that i used for FCP to compressor via QMASTER cluster for example. NO special order but might help someone get around the stuff with QMASTER V2.3, FCP V5.1.4, compressor.app V2.3
I saw the latest QMASTER UI and usage at NAB2007 and it looked a little more solid with some "EASY SETUP" stuff. I hope it has been reworked underneath.. I guess I will know soon if it has.
For most FCP/COMPRESSOR, SHAKE. MOTION and COMPRESSOR:
    • provide access from ALL nodes to ALL the source and target objects (files) on their VOLUMES. Simply MOUNT those volumes through the APPLE file system (via NFS) using +k (cmd+k) or finder/go/connect to server. OR using an SSAFS such as XSAN™ where the file systems are all shared over FC not the network. YOu will notice the CPU's going very busy for a small while. THhis is the APPLE FILE SYSTEM task,,, I guess it's doing 'spotlight stuff". This goes away after a few minutes.
    • set the COMPRESSOR preferences for "CLUSTER OPTIONS" to "Never copy source to Cluster". This means that all nodes can access your source and target objects (files) over NFS (as above). Failure to to this means LENGTHY times to COPY material back an forth, in some cases undermining the pleasure gained from initially using clustering (reduced job times)
    • DONT mix the PHYSICAL or LOGICAL networks in your local cluster. I dont know why but I could never get this to work. Physical mean stick with eother ETHERNET or FIREWIRE or your other (airport etc whic will be generally way to slow and useless), Logical measn leepin all nodes on the SAME subnet. You can do this siply by setting theis up in the system preferences/QMASTER/advanced tab under "Use Network Interfaces". In my currnet QUAd I set this to use BUILT IN ETHERNET1 and in the MPBDC's I set this to their BUILTIN ETHERNET.
    • LOGICAL NETWORKS (Subnet): simply HARDCODE an IP address on the ETHERNET (for eample) for your cluster nodes andthe service controller. FOr eample 3.1.1.x .... it will all connect fine.
    • Physical Networks: As above (1) DONT MIX firewire (IPoFW) and Ethernet(IPoE). (2) if more than extra service node USE A HUB or SWITCH. I went and bought a 10 port GbE HUB for about $HK400 (€40) and it worked fine. I was NEVER able to get a stable system of QMASTER mixing FW and ETHERNET. (3) fwiw using IP of FW caused me a LOAD of DISK errors and timouts (I/O errors) on thosse DISKs that were FW400 (al gone now) but it showed this was not stable overall
    • for the cluster controller node MAKE SURE you set the CLUSTER STORAGE (system preferences/QMASTER/shared cluster storage) for the CLUSTER CONTROLLER NODE IS ON A SHARED volume (See above). This seems essential for SHAKE to work. (if not check the Qmaster errors in the console.app [see below] ). IF you have an SSAFS like XSAN™ then just add this cluster storage on a share file path. NOte that QMASTER does not permit the cluster storage to be on a NETWORK NODE for some reason. So in short just MOUNT the volume where the SHARED CLUSTER file is maintained for the CLUSTER controller.
    • FCP - avoid EXPORT to COMPRESSOR from the TIMELINE - it never seems to work properly (see later). Instead EXPORT FROM SEQUENCE in the BROWSER - consistent results
    • FCP - "media missing " messages on EXPORT to COMPRESSOR.. seems a defect in FCP 5.1 when you EXPORT using a sequence that is NOT in the "root" or primary trry in the FCP PROJECT BROWSER. Simply if you have browser/bin A contains(Bin B (contains Bin C (contains sequence X))) this will FAIL (wont work) for "EXPORT TO COMPRESSOR" if you use EXPORT to COMPRESSOR in a FCP browser PANE that is separately OPEN. To get around this, simply OPEN/EXPOSE the triangles/trees in the BROWSER PANE for the PROJECT and select the SEQUENCE you want and "EXPORT to COMPRESSOR" from there. This has been documented in a few places in this forum I think.
    • FCP -> COMPRESSOR -> .M2V (for DVDSP3): some things here. EXPORTING from an FCP SEQUENCE with CHAPTER MARKERS to an MPEG2 .M2V encoding USING A CLUSTER causes errors in the placement of the chapter makers when it is imported to DVDSP3. In fact CONSISTENTLY, ALL the chapter markers are all PLACED AT THE END of the TRACK in DVD SP# - somewhat useless. This seems to happen ALSO when the source is an FCP reference movie, although inconsistent. A simple work around if you have the machines is TRUN OF SEGMENTING in the COMPRESSOR ENCODER inspector. let each .M2V transcode run on the same service node. FOr the jobs at hand just set up a CLUSTER and controller for each machine and then SELECT the cluster (myclusterA, hisclusterb, herclusterc) for each transcode job.. anyway for me.. the time spent resolving all this I could have TRANSCODED all this on my QUAD and it would all have ben done by sooner! (LOL)
    • CONSOLE logs: IF QMASTER fails, I would suggest your fist port of diagnosis should be /Library/Logs/Qmaster in there you will see (on the controller node) compressor.log, jobcontroller.com.apple.qmaster.cluster.admin.log, and lots of others including service controller.com.apple.qmaster.executorX.log (for each cpu/core and node) andd qmasterca.log. All these are worth a look and for me helped me solve 90% of my qmaster errors and failures.
    • MOTION 3 - fwiw.. EXPORT USING COMPRESSOR to a CLUSTER seems to fail EVERY TIME.. seems MOTION is writing stuff out to a /var/spool/qmaster
TROUBLESHOOTING QMASTER: IF QMASTER seems buggered up (hosed), then follow these steps PRIOR to restarting you machines.
go read the TROUBLE SHOOTING in the published APPLE docs for COMPRESSOR, SHAKE and "SET UP FOR DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING" and serach these forums CAREFULLY.. the answer is usually there somewhere.
    ELSE THEN,, try these steps....
You'll feel that QMASTER is in trouble when you
    • see that the QMASTER ICON at the top of the screen says 'NO SERVICES" even though that node is started and
    • that the APPLE QMASTER ADMINSTRATOR is VERY SLOW after an 'APPLY" (like minutes with SPINNING BEACHBALL) or it WONT LET YOU DELETE a cluster or you see 'undefined' nodes in your cluster (meaning that one was shut down or had a network failure)..... all this means it's going to get worse and worse. SO DONT submit any more work to QAMSTER... best count you gains and follow this list next.
    (a) in COMPRESSOR.app / RESET BACKGROUND PROCESSES (its under the COMPRESSOR name list box) see if things get kick started but you will lose all the work that has been done up to that point for COMPRESSOR.app
    b) if no OK, then on EACH node in that cluster, STOP the QMASTER (system preferences/QMASTER/setup [set 0 minutes in the prompt and OK). Then when STOPPED, RESET the shared services my licking OPTION+CLICK on the "START" button to reveal the "RESET SERVICES". Then click "START" on each node to start the services. This has the actin of REMOVING or in the case where the CLUSTER CONTROLLER node is "RESET" f terminating the cluster that's under its control. IF so Simply go to APPLE QMASTER ADMINISTRATOR and REDFINE it. Go restart you cluster.
    c) if step (b) is no help, consult the QMASTER logs in /Library/Logs/Qmaster (using the cosole.app) for any FILE MISSING or FILE not found or FILE ERROR . Look carefully for the NODENAME (the machine_name.local) where the error may have occured. Sometimes it's very chatty. Others it is not. ALso look in the BATCH MONITOR OUTPUT for errors messages. Often these are NEVER written (or I cant find them) in the /var/logs... try and resolve any issues you can see (mostly VOLUME or FILE path issues from my experience)
    (d) if still no joy then - try removing all the 'dead' cluster files from /var/tmp/qmaster , /var/sppol/qmaster and also the file directory that you specified above for the controller to share the clustering. FOR shake issues, go do the same (note also where the shake shared cluster file path is - it can be also specified in the RENDER FILEOUT nodes prompt).
    e) if all this WONT help you, its time to get the BIG hammer out. Simply, STOP all nodes of not stopped. (if status/mode is "STOPPING" then it [QMASTER] is truly buggered). DISMOUNT the network volumes you had mounted. and RESTART ALL YOUR NODES. Tis has the affect of RESTARTING all the QMASTERD tasks. YEs sure you can go in and SUDO restart them but it is dodgy at best because they never seem to terminate cleanly (Kill -9 etc) or FORCE QUIT.... is what one ends up doing and then STILL having to restart.
    f) after restart perform steps from (B) again and it will be usually (but not always) right after that
LAstly - here's some posts I have made that may help others for QMASTER 2.3 .. and not for the NEW QMASTER as at MAy 2007...

    Warwick,
Thanks for joining the forum and for doing all this work and posting your results for our benefit.
As FCP2 arrives in our shop, we will try once again to make sense of it and to see if we can boost our efficiencies in rendering big projects and getting Compressor to embrace five or six idle Macs.
Nonetheless, I am still in "Major Disbelief Mode" that Apple has done so little to make this software actually useful.

  • Fstab,samba and ntfs trouble!!

    Hi!
I have setup samba, everything is working..but!
I use gnome-2.12 for the moment, with hal/dbus and I have been trying to figure out WHY the h*ll gnome can mount the smbfs harddrive, but not unmount it when finished...this ends up with I having like twenty different "mount /mnt/samba " pids if I do a ps -ef
then I have to umount every single one of them by hand and as root!
So , i figured, hey, I must make umount accessible by my user, and I did, it workes because I can umount my ordinary harddrive as a user, but not the sambashare...
SO I read some more with google, and found that this is a bug in umount, so my question is:
Can I use smbumount with the sambashares instead ?? (because that one work)...the trouble is that I can't seem to find any option in GNOME to set which command to use when mounting/unmounting smbfs
or, even better perhaps, is there other ways to get shared files from a Windows machine than using Samba?

If you install M$ SFU on the Windoze box, you can use NFS to connect to it.

  • Little troubles with DVB-S2 via MPlayer

    Hi,
I use the MPlayer already for quite a while to stream DVB-S and DVB-S2 with it. But for approximately two weeks something changed while watching HD-channels: the video track lags every few seconds; the audio track is quiet normal. However, the non-HD channels hide the problem.
E.g. while watching a German HD-channel, I find following terminal outputs:
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]mmco: unref short failure
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]reference picture missing during reorder

Specially this message I can't understand, because I'm using a CPU AMD Phenom II X4 955 3,2 GHz, 8 GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM and the graphic card ASUS GTX 460 Top GDDR5 PCIe 1024 MB. But, let's continue with the outputs:
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]concealing 880 DC, 880 AC, 880 MV errors
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]mmco: unref short failure

[h264 @ 0xf2b820]illegal short term buffer state detected
Furthermore I'm using two HHD WD20EARS, which are connected to RAID1 via 3ware 9650SE-2LP, and the DVB hardware decoder card Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2. My desktop environment is KDE SC 4.8.
    For starting the DVB-S2 streaming I use szap-s2 -r -p -S 1 -c ~/.mplayer/hdchannels.conf "NAME-OF-THE-HD-CHANNEL" in one terminal and mplayer /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 -demuxer lavf -cache 8192 in a second terminal.
I just mention all this stuff because I've absolutly no idea, what could be the reason. Before this troubles started, two weeks ago, everything worked flawlessly. Checking the /etc/log/pacman.log I can find out, that the Linux kernel was upgraded from 3.2.6-2 to 3.2.7-1 on 24th February. I'm not sure, but maybe since that time these failures appears. Presently I'm using Linux 3.2.8-1.
Has anyone an idea what might just be the cause? (Perhaps it could be a option to try the LTS-kernel?)

So, today I just made some small tests. First of all I tried to start a HD-channel with WinTV7 on Windows 7: The channel was streamed correctly for almost one minute and than it was lost - and I had no possibilty to get it back.
After that I tried again to start the same HD-channel on Linux. I apologize in advance to the large amount of text but following is the terminal output of the first minute (finally canceled by STRG + C):

**** Your system is too SLOW to play this! ****
    Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
    - Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
    - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
    - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
    - Slow video output
    - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
    - Slow CPU
    - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
    e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
    - Broken file
    - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
    - Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
    - Try -cache 8192.
    - Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
    - Try -nocache.

  • How to mount a NFS that filename will forces to lowercase

    Hi all,
How can I mount an NFS that filename will appear as lower case?
The NFS used stores filename in upper case while application porgram run on Sun Solaris only accept lowercase filename. now I'm getting trouble in upper/lower case file name.
All nightmare begins in a product named "Snap! Server" . This server claims compatible with Microsoft Windows NT server, Novell Netware server, Apple Share Server, UNIX NFS server and WWW server. In my case, I used it as a Novell Netware and UNIX NFS.
The Snap Server is considered to replace my old Novell Netware Server, with can exports it volume as NFS, such that Solaris machine can mount it. Files are required to import/export form Dos/Windows client and process in Solaris via Novell. And the Snap! server will be a bridge between DOS/Windows client and Solars workstation since it can as Netware Server and NFS as the same time.
It works well in both Novell Netware and NFS well, but ...
When I trying to write a file from DOS client and read it in Solaris, the filename appears as UPPERCASE! The old Novell store filename in 8.3 upper case and the NFS module can convert filename into lowercase. While Snap! considers as NFS, it exports filename as uppercase ( I just simpley use command "mount server_name:/export_volume /mount_point") I'm now seeking solution that, after Solaris mount this server, filename will be seen as lowecase all the time, without user involve.( I have no case-sensitive problem in my case). When I ask my vendor, he said he never met such case before! The OS version is Solaris 2.5.1.
If anyone know how to made it, please send me a e-mail.

Answer for NFS who forces lowercase filenames:
You can mount that filesystem as a PCFS type filesys. You can then use
the mount option foldcase to force an uppercase file to be seen as a lowercase file. And that's about all. If you have any questions you can mail me at:

  • Accessing NFS mounts in Finder

I currently have trouble accessing NFS mounts with finder. The mount is O.K. I can access the directories on the NFS server in Terminal. However, in Finder when I click on the mount, instead of seeing the contents of the NFS mount I only see the "Alias" icon. Logs show nothing.
I am not sure when it worked the last time. It could well be that the problem only started after one of the lastest snow leopard updates. I know it worked when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
    Any ideas?

    Hello gvde,
Two weeks ago I bought a NAS device that touted NFS as one of the features. As I am a fan of Unix boxes I chose an NAS that would support that protocol. I was disappointed to find out that my Macbook would not connect to it. As mentioned in previous posts (by others) on this forum, I could see my NFS share via the command line, but not when using Finder. I was getting pretty upset and racking my brain trying to figure it out. I called the NAS manufacturer which was no help. I used a Ubuntu LiveCD (which connected fine). I was about ready to give up. Then, in another forum someone had mentioned the NFS manager App.
After I installed the app and attempted to configure my NFS shares, the app stated something along the lines of (paraphrasing) "default permissions were incorrect". It then asked me if I would authenticate to have the NFS manager fix the problem. I was at my wits end so I thought why not. Long story short, this app saved me! My shares survive a reboot, Finder is quick and snappy with displaying the network shares, and all is right with the world. Maybe in 10.6.3 Apple will have fixed the default permissions issue. Try the app. It's donationware. I hope this post helps someone else.

  • [SOLVED]Can´t mount nfs shares!

    Hello,
I am trying to get up a fileserver. I installed an old PC with Arch and configerd it over SSH. I followed the wiki over NFS and NFSv4. But everytime I want to mount a share that is in the physical map /home/jozef/shares/downloads, I get the following error:
    mount.nfs4: timeout set for Mon Aug 24 14:36:57 2009
    mount.nfs4: text-based options: 'clientaddr=192.168.0.100,addr=192.168.0.111'
mount.nfs4: mount(2): Permission denied mount.nfs4: access denied by server while mounting 192.168.0.111:/shares/downloads
I tried to mount it with the following command:
    mount -v -t nfs4 192.168.0.111:/shares/downloads /media/Downloads-Server
Lets call the fileserver fileserver and my workstation Gamepc. Here I will give you some files that I think are needed, from fileserver and Gamepc are there other files you need, I will post them.

Are you sure that the nfs module is loaded? Do
    lsmod | grep nfs
to check. If "nfs" doesn't appear then that's your problem. Do:
    sudo modprobe nfs
    and continue.
EDIT: Also, I'll assume both your server and your client machine are connected to the network. You have the network DAEMON "!"-disabled in each machine's /etc/rc.conf. So I'm assuming you're connecting them to the network in some other way, and have verified that you can, for example, ssh from one machine to the other.
Third, you're sure that /share exists on your server machine, that a (presumably empty) directory /share/downloads exists inside it, that another folder is mounted on top of that empty directory? When you type "mount" on the server machine there should be a line containing "on /share/downloads".
Fourth, if your client's ip address is 192.168.0.100 (this will be displayed when you do "ifconfig") then the /etc/exports on your server has been changed to read:
    /shares 192.168.0.100(rw,fsid=0,no_subtree_check,async,no_root_squash)
    /shares/downloads 192.168.0.100(rw,no_subtree_check,async,no_root_squash,nohide)
Then you either typed "exportfs -rf" on the server, or stopped and restarted nfs-server. (I'd stop nfs-server, nfs-common, and rpcbind, then start them up again in reverse order, to be sure.)
STATD_OPTS has no effect in /etc/conf.d/nfs-server. Also, you don't need to use statd if you're using nfs4. So you could change /etc/conf.d/nfs-common to read:
    NEED_STATD=no
    NEED_IDMAPD=yes
and /etc/conf.d/server and can be blank.
(Then restart everything, as described above.)
If you're using the latest arch packages then portmap has been replaced by rpcbind (which you do have in your DAEMONS line on the server). So you need to change the "portmap:" line in your server's /etc/hosts.allow to "rpcbind:". I also have a "lockd:" line in my /etc/hosts.allow, in addition to what you have. It's probably not the source of your present troubles, and I'm not sure it's necessary. But you could try adding it.
Finally, did you add/change a "Domain = ..." line in the /etc/idmapd.conf on your server, and a corrsponding line in the /etc/idmapd.conf on your client?

  • Trouble with a new format

    OK heres the skinny.
I have several sytems and I am having trouble with one in particular. I was running this KT4V with a barton 2500+ and 1 gig of 2100 DDR. I couldnt put 1 gig of 3200 DDR in because of board limitations. I also has a 170o+ "b" chip that I had order a while back and was using on an outdated MSI boad and was getting mixed results at best.  So I decided to upgrade al my stuff.  I bought an Abit nfs-7 for th ebarton and a gig of 3200 and put the 1700+ in the KT4V. And thats where the trouble started.
It starts at the reformt. It takes literally 5 hrs. to reformat a 30 gig harddrive.  and it took about 1.5 hrs. to complete the windows install. At start up, (it will start up) but it takes about 15 minutes to get to desktop and the pc runs VERY sluggish.
I stried the quick format and it was quick but it is still very sluggish when in desktop.
The only thing different is the cpu.   When I was using the 2500+ this system was fast and stable for over a year. Any suggestions and what could be causing this thing to be soooooooooooooooodamn slow?
    The system is:
    t-bred 1700+ 'B'
    KT4V-L m/b
    1gig 2100 DDR RAM
    Maxtor 7200 30 gig HDD
    Sparkle 300 watt PS
    GF 5600 GPU
    HELP!

Reading that list of parts you are trying to use, I see one item that may cause major problems. The sparkle 300W PSU, it may not be able to handle the needs of the system with that FX5600.
As for the slowness, the IDE cable could cause this. Ensure the blue end is hooked to the board, and the hard drive is hooked to the black end, and not to the gray plug in the middle.

  • Problems with my new NAS server - Bonjour,Samba,NFS

    Hello,
I need some help . Today i bought a older nas server from local store. It features Bonjour, Samba, FTP + NFS.
My mac is connected to my TP-LINK router via n wifi and the nas is connected to gigabit ethernet.
But i have some serious troubles.
    1. When i connect to a samba server i get a connection, get folders but when i want to read something i dont have right to do that.
I tried literally everything but cant get any progress. I can get great stable connection on windows machine , even in boot camp but cant get it working
    on mac os x.
    2. NAS features Bonjour + iTunes sharing. I turn it on and get itunes to respond but still cant get any discs (NFS), devices...nothing.
(Maybe some DNS problems ? )
    3. If i want to connect to NFS manually i have no luck.
So im asking for help, how can i access my files on NAS
    Any tips and help ?
    Thanks in advance !

Update: I continued searching and realized 'formatting' the phone was what I was trying to say. I followed the instructions, entered the code and started from scratch. All the previous problems were cleared up and it's running like a champ again! For anyone else who might need the codes:
because newer nokia devices have udp- user data preservation feature even if you reset your phone data will remian intact. the only way to truly get rid off your stuff is to use option 3 on this list. understand that you will lose all your data and make sure you ahve a back up of everything you need before doing this. the default code is always 12345. the restore setttings option DOES not remove any data, just restores default settings on your phone.
    1. *#7780#  - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for all operations listed here is 12345
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone
    3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. )
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

  • NFS Sharing with Windows

I'm having trouble connecting to my NFS share through Windows XP.  I've installed Microsoft's services for Unix and have it working properly, I can connect to a Debian server running NFS without trouble.  Whenever I try to connect to my Arch box it keeps requesting a username and password.  I can connect to this server from the same machine when I boot into my Arch partition and I have no problems there.  Before anyone asks my IP is static through my MAC Address.  It sound like a user authentication error to me but I wasn't aware that NFS only allowed certain users to connect.  I've been beating my head over this for a few weeks now, so any help would be appreciated.

All these files are set up the same.  To simplify this process I commented everything out in both of the hosts.deny files, so everything should be going through without a problem.  My exports file only has one line, same options on both systems.  Again, I've set the IP to allow connections from all to simplify things for now, the line is as follows.
    /media *(rw,sync,insecure,subtree_check)
Each time my system asks for a username & password, I put it in then it just asks for it again.
