NLS_Language issue
Hi All,
I have a query which returns 3 rows when run with NLS_Language set to English in SQL Developer, if I change it to American, the query returns 2 rows. Is it possible to apply NLS Language at row level, if so could this row have been altered by a client application with a different NLS_Language setting, I can't how these records could be different, they are coming from an EBS R12 table in an Oracle DB v11.2
Thanks Ed
Hi,
Do you realy expect to get a good answer if you do not post anything like:

Problem with reading special char from file
Hello Oracle community,
Got a problem when reading from a file. I am using a croatian keyboard and trying to read special charachters (ČĆŽŠĐ) from a file.
declare
l_file utl_file.file_type;
s varchar2(200);
begin
l_file := utl_file.fopen('test_dir', 'test.txt', 'R');
loop
utl_file.get_line(l_file, s);
dbms_output.put_line(s);
end loop;
exception
when no_data_found then
utl_file.fclose(l_file);
end;But I keep getting this in dbms_output: ČĆĐ. For some reason it keeps skipping 2 chars Š and Ž. If I try to insert or update data the values are show correctly. What could be the cause of such a problem?
Best regards,
IgorHi Igor,
Looks like a NLS_LANGUAGE issue. Check the following threads:

Performance issue in DB need help with analysing this ADDM report
Hi,
My environment:
Os: RHEL5U3 / 11.1.0.7 64 bit / R12.1.1 64 bit
Issue:
Few days are am facing serious of performance problem in our Production instance. Normally the issue will occur 5 to 10 minutes occasionally per day. At the time of issue we not able to access the EBS application its taking time to load. But backend all the oracle, listener and apps services are up and running. No locks at table and session level. Cpu and memory usage is normal.
We have monitored using "Enterprise Manager" for this issue and we found the wait session present more in Active session tab. At this time EBS application is not able access its loading too time. After some time the in Active session tab the wait session came normal and when we try to access the EBS application its working fine.
We try to find the cause of the issue by running addm report. But am not able to understand what its says. Kindly suggests me

Multibyte issue in Oracle Database Link
Hi Gurus,
Greetings!!!
I need to transfer data from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to Oracle DAtabase 10g. I achieved it using Heterogeneous Connectivity. I can now issue queries but unfortunately i got an issue in displaying multibyte characters. I thought of using another Tool that can display multibyte data but it did not help. I even tried setting the initialization parameter HS_LANGUAGE to different characterset but still not able to display. Kindly help and advise how to resolve the said issue.
Many Thanks in Advance,
BenjieHi Kamkan,
My oracle database is configured to support multi language character.

Scalability Issues - Too Many Active Sessions?
Hello,
I'm having an issue with an application I built for one of the campuses at the college I work at. The application is a queuing system where there are stations for students to check in, admin stations where staff can see these students and "call" them, and displays outside each employees office that shows the student that was called. There are about 20 of these last type of display panels. I have the following code in my page footer to poll the DB for the most recent called student for a specific room:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
var refresh_region = function( workstation_in, div_in ) {
$.get(
'wwv_flow.show',
{"p_request" : 'APPLICATION_PROCESS=F_NEXT_STUDENT',
"p_flow_id" : $v('pFlowId'), //app id
"p_flow_step_id" : $v('pFlowStepId'), //page id
"p_instance" : $v('pInstance'), //session id
"x01" : workstation_in
function(data) {
$(div_in).html(data);
setTimeout(function() { refresh_region( workstation_in, div_in ) }, 5000);
refresh_region( '&P7_WORKSTATION_IN.', '#next_student_div' );
//-->
</script>The OnDemand process, F_NEXT_STUDENT runs the following query and returns the result:
select a.FIRST_NAME || ' ' || a.LAST_NAME
into full_name
from ONESTOP_QUEUE a
where a.WORKSTATION_ID_CALLED = in_workstation_id
and a.STATUS = 'CALLED'
and a.QUEUE_ID = (
select min( c.QUEUE_ID )
from ONESTOP_QUEUE c
where c.WORKSTATION_ID_CALLED = in_workstation_id
and c.STATUS = 'CALLED');However, when all of these display panels are turned on (and I use code like this in other pages for similar purposes) the application becomes sluggish and eventually unresponsive. At first we had the application running off a box with Oracle XE. We eventually migrated to a full blown 11g install with APEX Listener and GlassFish. My DBA says everything looks ok on the DB side so I've been trying to dig in other areas to see where the bottleneck may be. After inspecting the Active Sessions report in APEX, I saw that there's a ton of connections being generated (> 30,000). This doesn't seem like a good thing to me and I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
At first I was using $.post() instead of $.()get. I was also using setInterval() instead of a setTimeout() loop. However, none of these changes seemed to really help the situation much. I'm at a loss for how else to improve the performance of this application. Any suggestions on what I can try?
Most of the app's functionality is on apex.oracle.com

Thanks in advance for any help.Hi Patrick,
UPDATE as of 3PM Eastern:
This afternoon all users lost the ability to connect to the application. My DBA is still reviewing logs but it seems that the error isn't on the DB side. The application came back up after he restarted the Apex listener. We found a bunch of the following error in the Glassfish server.log file:
[#|2013-02-25T14:34:39.021-0500|WARNING|oracle-glassfish3.1.2|com.sun.grizzly.config.GrizzlyServiceListener|_ThreadID=11;_ThreadName=Thread-2;|GRIZZLY0023: Interrupting idle Thread: http-thread-pool-80(73).|#]The max threads is currently set to 100.
After we came back up I went to page 4350:45 and cleared out all sessions. After a couple minutes I rechecked the number of sessions on this page:
Total Sessions: 27,674
Distinct Users over all sessions = 2
Sessions older than 15 minute(s) = 4Seems like way too many sessions to have after just a couple minutes.
End UPDATE
Again, thank you for taking the time to reply. Everything seems to be working fine for the past couple days, but I figured I'd provide some current data, especially since I'm still curious about all these "sessions".
Are we talking about page 4350:45 which shows the following information
Total Sessions: 9
Distinct Users over all sessions = 4
Sessions older than 1 day(s) = 0
Where does it show 17,400 sessions for you? It almost appears that your daily APEX jobs are not running which do normally purge old APEX sessions automatically. See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/doc.42/e35129/dbms_jobs001.htm
Yes, this was the page I was referring to. I just checked it now and it showed me the following:
Total Sessions: 10,236
Distinct Users over all sessions = 2
Sessions older than 1 day(s) = 0And it does appear that the APEX jobs are running since there are no sessions older than 1 day... unless I'm interpreting this information incorrectly.
Also, I was able to get some more data regarding page loading using the Debug info:

0.53000 - Final commit 4Again, not sure if I'm reading this correctly but it seems that the steps that are taking the most time seem to be related to NLS settings... and I have translating turned off. This is consistent with all of the longer page views. As a side note, my DBA did turn archive log mode back on this weekend.
Again, everything seems to be running smoothly at the moment so the above data is more to help satisfy my curiosity about the inner workings of Apex.
Regards,
Tadeusz

Issue with displaying Greek characters in Oracle 11.1
Hi,
We are having issues with display of Non-English language (for ex Greek) text on Pega-PRPC. The text is stored in a reference table in Oracle DB. However there is not need of translation in PRPC as it has the capability of displaying non-english language also.
I believe that it is a issue with DB settings, although not sure of what is the setting.
Below is the result after running the query: select * from nls_database_parameters
NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
NLS_CURRENCY $

The first question that needs to be answered is whether the problem is a data storage problem or data presentation problem.
The query below will answer this question.
SELECT ASCIISTR(greek_column) from greek_table where key_id = <specific_value>; -
Case Sensitivity Issue with Latin Characters
Hi,
The Latin Character that i am talking abt is "i",
I am trying to provide in my application the support for Azeri-Latin(Turkish family) Characters,
That is the display and the orientation of characters is perfectly fine throughout the flow of application.
But now there is a problem when selecting a data from DB using like constraint in where clause... The issue has been elaborated below...
From the set of characters there are two character in which i am facing Case Sensitivity issue...
They are as,
i ---> the capital of same is ---> İ
ı ---> the capital of same is ---> I
now in english character mapping,
for i ---> the capital is ---> I
So, this is creating an issue...
Now the test i have done is as follows,
I created a table as,
Create Table CS
CS1 VARCHAR2(20)
Following is the data that is inserted in the table,
Insert into CS values('İ');
Insert into CS values('i');
Insert into CS values('I');
Insert into CS values('ı');
now i am running the following query,
Select * from CS where lower(CS1) like lower('%&a%');
for characters "i","İ","I" it returns 3 rows, that are,
i
İ
I
and for character ı it only returns,
ı
ideally for characters "i" & "İ" should be mapped with each other and "ı" & "I" should be mapped with each other respectively.
But that is not the case.
I am using Oracle 10g
my NLS_database_parameters are as follows,
PARAMETER VALUE
NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
NLS_CURRENCY $
NLS_ISO_CURRENCY AMERICA
NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS .,
NLS_CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8

NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS BYTE
NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP FALSE
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
NLS_RDBMS_VERSION 10.2.0.1.0
and at client i m using,
NLS_LANG = .AL32UTF8
any help on this issue will be appreciated,
Thanks & Regards,
PratikI'm not fully understand your question but I guess you may need to set up NLS_LANGUAGE, NLS_TERRITORY db parameters and client NLS_LANG.
eg client NLS_LANG=TURKISH_AZERBAIJAN.AL32UTF8 and db parameters NLS_LANGUAGE=TURKISH, NLS_TERRITORY=AZERBAIJAN
Full list of supported languages, locales see [Oracle® Database Globalization Support Guide local data subpage|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14225/applocaledata.htm]
or tip2: check this: ALTER SESSION SET NLS_COMP=LINGUISTIC;

or you need something like this:
Example 5-16 Matching with the Base Letter Operator [==]
Expression: r[[=e=]]sum[[=e=]]
Matches:

résumé<<
résume<<

Hello Everyone,
I am facing a issue with Dataguard setup. Following is the description:
Purpose:
Setup a Dataguard using Oracle Data Guard Solution between Production & DR(Physical standby) databases.
Problem Statement:
In case the network connectivity interrupted between Primary database and Physical Standby database, the Primary database is unable to respond to application servers. This issue occurred when the log shipment process is on. However, if the log shipment of Oracle Data Guard is stopped then production database/ system is working fine even if the connectivity between Primary database and Physical Standby database is interrupted.
Standby database is configured in high performance mode.
Environment:
Database Software Primary and Standby Server – Oracle10g Enterprise with Partition option, 64 bit, Version – 10.2.0.4
Primary Database server is configured with Two Sun M5000 nodes in OS cluster environment, Active and Passive Mode, Sun Cluster Suite 3.2 and OS Solaris 10
Standby Database Server is configured, Server – V890, OS Solaris 10
Java based multiple application are connected with Primary database using JDBC type 4 driver to processed the request.
Two independent IPMP are configured on Primary database server, one for application network and second for data guard network.
Application network are configured with dedicated switch and data guard network is connected with different switch.
Single listener is configured on Physical IP and Application is connecting to database through virtual IP dynamically assigned through cluster serviceSQL> SELECT PROTECTION_MODE, PROTECTION_LEVEL, DATABASE_ROLE FROM V$DATABASE;
PROTECTION_MODE PROTECTION_LEVEL DATABASE_ROLE
MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE PRIMARY
SQL> SELECT PROTECTION_MODE, PROTECTION_LEVEL, DATABASE_ROLE FROM V$DATABASE;
PROTECTION_MODE PROTECTION_LEVEL DATABASE_ROLE
MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE PHYSICAL STANDBY
And this is the Alert log file snapshot and all other necessary information.

Issue with Taiwanese characters display in SQL*Plus/Toad
Hi all,
I have an issue about displaying the Taiwanese characters either in SQl*Plus or Toad tool. Able to view all territory characters properly except it. Whenever i tried to view these characters from Toad, diplay like square box('⃞'), where as it displays as question mark ('?') from SQL*Plus.
I am not sure what are the parameters i want to alter. Please have a look at the below existed database parameters in the DB and help me to get rid of the issue.

Forms and reports server issue
Hai
iam new to oracle applications.i was asked to solve this issue . i get the error when i start the oracle applications.i get the error in the forms,report and apache webserver.
the file parameter.config could not be located or read.
for that the solution was given in the metalink as
SolutionTo implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
1. stop all APPS-Tier Services
2. execute following script to identify the current value :
select t.PROFILE_OPTION_NAME, t.USER_PROFILE_OPTION_NAME,v.PROFILE_OPTION_VALUE
from FND_PROFILE_OPTIONS p,FND_PROFILE_OPTION_VALUES v,FND_PROFILE_OPTIONS_TL t
where
p.profile_option_id=v.profile_option_id
and p.PROFILE_OPTION_NAME=t.PROFILE_OPTION_NAME
and p.PROFILE_OPTION_NAME like '%DEFAULT_ORG_ID%';
3. Verify the defined values for Organizations via the output 'adutconf.lst', created via the script
$AD_TOP/sql/adutconf.sql
4. Modify the value for the 'DEFAULT_ORG_ID' in tables FND_PROFILE_OPTION_VALUES and FND_PROFILE_OPTIONS_TL with a valid value and commit it.
5. start the APPS-Tier Services
but i donot understand this .i have confusion with the 3rd,4th and 5th steps.so plz explain me these steps in detail to me
Regards
Orauser123hai hussein
i executed the script adutconf.sql and checked the fie adutconf.lst for the organisation value but i donot find any value like that
i have placed last few lines of the adutconf.lst after executing the script adutconf.sql in $AD_TOP/sql

Issue inputting japanese characters in sqlplus?
(Reposting this from Linux forum)
Hey all, looking for some feedback on this issue.
Background: Using a tool to process an external data file (with a Japanese filename and contents which contain Japanese as well). This tool ultimately places the converted data into an Oracle database.
When this tool is run from our Windows environment, everything works correctly.
However, when running the Linux version of the tool, talking to the same database, the following is output:
WARNING: underlying database error.
SDE Code (-51): Underlying DBMS error
Extended DBMS error code: 911
ORA-00911: invalid character
(駅)
Not able to create business table 駅
Delete layer "駅" ...
SDE Code (-51): Underlying DBMS error
Extended DBMS error code: 911
ORA-00911: invalid character
Unable to delete layer "駅"
When we re-run the tool with an English filename it seems to work fine regardless of the contents of the file.
Relevant environment variables:
LANG=ja_JP.UTF8
NLS_LANG=Japanese_Japan.UTF8
NLS_LANGUAGE=japanese
And I have also tried with:
LANG=ja_JP.eucJP
NLS_LANG=japanese_japan.JA16EUC
NLS_LANGUAGE=japanese
I have noticed that if I run sqlplus directly and attempt to create a simple table with a Japanese name, I get the ORA-00911 error with japanese_japan.JA16EUC as NLS_LANG. If I change NLS_LANG to Japanese_Japan.UTF8 I can then successfully create a table with japanese characters in its name. I still cannot run our conversion tool above.
Any ideas or tips? I believe the database is set up correctly as it does work with Windows as the client... perhaps the conversion tool is overriding my NLS_LANG settings? Any other possibilities you can think of?
TIA,
RayThanks for all the input guys.
Here's output from when I have an error creating a table:

Database Adapter Connection to EBusiness Suite Issue
I have a process that creates records in the EBusiness Suite using the BPEL Database Adapter. The adapter calls a single wrapper procedure that internally calls 4 TCA APIs one after the other. There appears to be an USERENV LANG issue during the final api that is called. The LANG needs to be US but the SQL Worksheet in JDeveloper BPEL Designer returns GB which I suspect is the value the adapter has when it connects to the eBusiness Suite.
How can the value of the LANG be set for the adapter ? My Environment variable for NLS_LANG is set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1. My various Oracle homes are also set to this value.
I have also tried FND_GLOBAL.APPS_INITIALIZE procedure to effectively 'log on' to the EBS but this returns an error. The same wrapper package called directly from SQL*Plus works perfectly (where USERENV LANG is US). Solutions welcome !The issue was resolved by adding the following to the start of the wrapper procedure:
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_LANGUAGE = ''AMERICAN'''; -
