No batteries available message in Leopard

Since I installed Leopard on my PowerBook G4, I'm having real weird battery reporting issues.
An "X" in the battery icon in the bar at the top of the screen. When I click on it, it says "No batteries available"...even though the battery is still in there and working!
Even with the power plugged in and the light is green on the edge of the power connector, the icon doesn't show that it is running off of AC power.
I click the button on the bottom of the battery, and it only lights up 3 of the 5 lights (which if it's fully charged, all 5 lights should be lit up).
Here is what the System Power Settings show in "About My Mac..."

Can anyone help? What is going on??

Hi everyone, I think I just solved my own problem...here's what I did.
1. I reset the PMU. With the power off, hold down shift-control-option-power for 2-3 seconds, then let it sit for at least 5 seconds.
2. Reset the PRAM & NVRAM. Turn the computer back off, back on, and press Command-Option-P-R before the grey screen appears (it should cause the computer to restart and "bong" again)
3. In the the system root Library folder, go into /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file. To be safe, you can copy it to the desktop and then delete the file. Then restart your computer.
After I did all these things, the battery went back to functioning properly. We'll see if it continues to work!
Hope this helps someone!

  • Macbook Pro Retina display says "No batteries available" after legitimate system software update

    Issue Description
On July 26, 2012 I placed an order with Apple store for the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display with the following configuration (Order # W269108641 Serial# C02J52S9DKQ5):
    Processor 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Memory 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM, Flash Storage 512GB Flash Storage
It was delivered August 8, 2012. It cost me $3,265.16
I have since equipped it with accessories like a wireless apple keyboard ($69), wireless mouse ($69), USB super drive ($79), VGA display adapter ($29), Ethernet Adapter ($29) and the excellent sleeve/pouch from Pack & Smooch GmbH (GBP60))
It's so heavily configured because it’s my main workstation. I additionally bought and installed Parallels 8 so I can run Windows 8 in a Virtual Machine because I have a few things on Windows that I need to be productive. This setup has been a dream machine until a little over a week ago.
    In the one year since I bought it, I have had only 2 issues;
    • A case of display flickering that resulted after a system software update on August 28, 2013
(Case ID 498560320 - not much help came from Apple Support but fortunately the problem went away a week later after another system software update)
    • A case of battery failure that resulted after a system software update on October 11, 2013
(Case ID 516534003 - I have gone through all recommendations from Apple support as I will detail below)
    Symptoms after system software update
    • Battery Icon on status bar disabled with a message "No batteries available"
    • Battery not charging
    • LED on the Magsafe power adapter no longer show
    • Keyboard backlights no longer show
    • Notebook fan loud/noisy and permanently at high speed
    • Date and time reset to a date in the past at each restart
    • Notebook starts up the moment the Magsafe adapter is connected without waiting for power button to be pressed
    • An update for "MacBook Pro Retina Display SMC Update 1.2" keeps appearing in Software Update
    Recommendations from Apple Support
    • Perform SMC Reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964)
(Done - no change in status)
    • Run Disk Utility
    (Done - no errors found)
    • Run Apple Hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
(Done - no errors found, no change in status)
    • Visit Apple Store
(Done - they confirmed no issue with Magsafe adapter. For a fee they are happy to change the battery if confirmed faulty and re-install the OS if the battery is not the issue but am uncertain that the OS re-install will resolve the issue because I have read online about a similar case where a re-install did not resolve the issue)
    • Check System Report/Hardware/Power
(Done - Health Information/Cycle count:0, Battery installed: No)
    • Perform NVRAM Reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US)
(Done - no change in status)
    Comments and additional Observations
    Please note the following;
    • All of the symptoms above appeared after a system software update on October 11, 2013
    • This update first appeared on October 10, 2013 but I was too busy to apply it especially because it required a system restart
    • The battery was fully charged when I decided to apply the update on October 11 morning after I got to work
    • Normally on full charge, the battery will typically deliver 3 - 4 hours depending on usage and up to 6 hours when idle
    • The said update was not interrupted or anything of the sort
    • On the day the symptoms were first observed when I first logged the case with apple, the system ran on battery while it performed the Apple Hardware Test while I was driving to the Apple support store on my way home even though the status bar was indicating "No battery available"
I make the following deductions solely based on my observations
    • An apple authorized system software update broke the system
    • The nature of the failure is communication related - the battery charging circuit and related systems are not getting the necessary instructions to function as they should (It's a known fact that rechargeable batteries do NOT die instantaneously, the total hours they run on full charge will gradually reduce over time as they degrade on use)
    • It’s possible the update is not being applied correctly because the item “MacBook Pro Retina Display SMC Update 1.2” is still in Software update after subsequent attempts to apply it
    • The high fan speed is nothing to do with high temperature or high processor load, according to the Activity Monitor utility the highest CPU utilization 1.9 – 4.7% is by kernel_task (PID 0) followed by activitymonitord at 1.8 – 2.2% (PID 481)
    • The symptoms match what an SMC reset should resolve according to Apple documentation
    • This is a known problem within Apple based on the documentation provided and the numerous similar cases reported online
    Summary;
The system is running OS X 10.8.5
I have provided this detailed documentation in the hope that someone who understands this system can say exactly what is going on. It's meant to be a dream machine but now you can hear the fan from across a large room, the battery doesn't charge and is in fact not recognized so I lose data if the Magsafe adapter gets unplugged, and I have to reset the system date each time I restart the notebook.
I've used this notebook with utmost care for a little more than a year, this investment of over $3,500 could have bought 3 high end notebooks from DELL or HP but I chose Apple.
I have suffered untold loss in productivity in the last 10 days since this issue occurred, I respectfully request Apple to fix my notebook.

  • "No batteries available" but the battery is in and charged?

I have a similar problem to other postings already with an "interesting" quirk.
The battery is in and has a good charge (as judged by the green dots), however everytime I start up the powerbook the power adapter turns orange but the battery indicator shows 0%. Then after a few minutes of this, a big fat X appears in the battery icon and the message "No batteries available". However system profiler shows that there is a battery but that it has no charge. The battery truly is not recognized because I can't start up from battery alone.
So what have I tried, two independent batteries and a change of the mother board (under warranty). Even after all this still the same problem. Reset the PRAM, reset the PMU. Can't do the battery firmware upgrade because the firmware upgrader doesn't see the battery!!! I tried calibrating the battery but if I disconnect the power adapter it switches into sleep mode right away cause it thinks it has 0% in the battery. I left it in sleep mode overnight hoping that would reset it but nothing.
Thanks for any input that could solve this problem.

Bummer… what about zapping PRAM and resetting the PMU?
Already tried that and still nothing. I noticed reading though older posts that others are having a similar problem I wonder if this is unsolvable
I tried running coconutBattery. It shows no charge in the battery and that the battery is not charging while the 0% is in the battery icon. When the X appears in the battery icon coconutBattery goes really wierd and gives the same output as it there was not battery at all. Also to clarify the system profiler doesn't see a battery connected when the X is present in the icon.
The battery does appear to be charging however while the icon has the 0% in the battery window. Just over this afternoon have gone from 4 to all the green indicators lit up. Just too bad that the computer can't see that the battery is charged. It still simply switches from 0% to the X in the icon and shuts down right away if I disconnect the power adapter.

  • How to hide the report "No data available" message

    Hi,
When there are no results from a query execution I would like to hide or at least replace by 0 the "No data available" message.
I'm working on BI 7 and the query is included in a web template that has a button to export to excel and the objective is that this message doesn't appear in the exported file.
Do you know if this is possible? If yes please tell me how to do it.
    Regards,
    Ana

    Hi,
    Thanks for your answer.
I will explain my issue a little bit further.
I'm working in BI 7 and I create a web template that contains five queries and a button to export all the queries results to an excel file.
So when executing the query in the portal, depending on the selection criteria inserted some of the queries show the message "No data available" and using the button to export to excel the generated file include that message too. It would be preferable to delete the message in the web and in the excel file, but we need to replace at least in the excel file.
I don't know if this is possible with some script so if you have some export script example please post it here.
If there is some way that when no records exists return zero I think that with a formula I can hide the result but I don't know how to get the 0 value....
If you can help in some way I would be very grateful.
    Regards,
    Ana

  • How do I prevent the "update available" message while I'm watching a program?

My 2011 Mac Mini is connected, via HDMI, to my 46" Samsung HD TV. I buy and rent 1080 movies and TV shows from iTunes. I also play a lot of other files that I've downloaded from other places. It's terrific except for one fly in the ointment...
No matter what I'm watching, iTunes, NetFlix, VLC, Quicktime or straight off the desktop; if there is new software available, I get that annoying message that appears in the upper right hand corner. I can slide it to the right but it comes back a few minutes later. I could stop everything and perform the upgrade 10 to 30 minutes later but is this really the way video on a Mac is supposed to work? I feel there should be a way, at least, to pervent this from happening when I'm watching a program/movie/TV show. If it happens between, fine but why does it always have to pester me when I'm trying to enjoy watching T.V.?
I know there is a way to turn it off, for the day, but come on- There's got to be a better solution than that. My U-Verse box very rarely bugs me about things. OSX and/or iTunes does it ALL the time. Can't it give me a break when I'm watching T.V.?
Hopefully, I just missed some setting but I've tried a few things that didn't work.
This is not a disaster but if someone knows a solution, I would be very grateful!
    Thanks!
    Teddy

    Mende1,
      Thanks for the super-fast response!
I believe I tried this once before but the check box for "Automatically check for updates" always comes back, the next day. However, this might be my best solution for now and I'll test it watching the latest "Ripper Street", in iTunes, tonight. If it lasts the length of the program, I'll have to decide if I want to select "This solved my question" or "This helped me."
I think I expected Apple to be a little more inTune with this. I absolutely love watching programs with my Mac Mini via HDMI. If they could find a consistent way to not interrupt programs, even with "Automatically check for updates" checked, the Mac video experience would be nearly perfect.
I do make sure to perform updates but, between my wife's Mac and my two, plus the fact that updates seem to be occuring on a weekly basis, it's not easy to update immediately. I just feel that if a person is watching a movie or T.V. program, it's very clunky to have the "update available" message continuously appearing.
    Thanks again!
    Teddy

  • EDI: Partner profile inbound not available Message no. E0337

    Hi Friends,
I am facing very wiered issue for incoming vendor frieght invoice. When the IDOC is sent to SAP from the edi subsystem, it gets posted with status 56 and error message
EDI: Partner profile inbound not available
    Message no. E0337
    Diagnosis
An inbound partner profile could not be found with the following key:
    /0040000010/LI/VN/INVOIC/MM///
This involves the key fields of table EDP21:
    -SNDPRN  partner number of sender
    -SNDPRT  partner type of sender
    -SNDPFC  partner function of sender
    -MESTYP  logical message type
    -MESCOD  logical message code
    -MESFCT  logical message function
    -TEST    test flag
I have created the partner profile in WE20 for Partner type LI, partner role VN and process code INVL, message type INVOIC, message code MM. I have also checked the entry in TABLE EDP21 and the entry exists.
When I open the IDOC in WE19, and click on standard inbound TAB it says partner profile not maintianed, however when i click on the control record it opens a dialog box, where we have all the entries for partner profile and when I just click on any field in the dialog box and click continue and when again click on standard inbound it say partner profile maintained.
None of the data is changed in the IDOC control record, I just click on any field and it finds the partner profile.
Please let me know your thoughts, what could be possible reason and a solution.
    Thanks
    Deepak

    Hi Deepak,
I am facing the same problem with a different message type.
But same effect. I can copy the IDoc with WE19 and it will process nicely, completely unchanged.
Have you found the reason for this?
    Thanks,
    Florian

  • "No Batteries Available" in Menu Bar

There is an indicator for the battery condition in the menu bar. For example, when my MacBook Pro is plugged in and the batttery is fully charged, one expects to see an icon that shows a battery with a plug in it and the word "(Charged)" next to it. When the MacBook Pro is unplugged, I may expect to see an indicator of remaining battery life and depending on your configuration, you may see a time countdown of remaining battery life time, e.g. "1:31."
Recently I came back to my MacBook Pro and although it had been fine previously and I had made no changes, it inexplicibly said "X" in the battery icon and when I clicked on the icon to see what this meant, a drop-down menu read: "No Batteries Available."
I corrected the problem by unplugging and re-plugging the power adapter, but this appears to be a bug with the new MacBook Pro. A minor annoyance yes, but a bug nonetheless.

    Have tried resetting everything possible..
For some resetting seems to do the trick, also just removing the battery and putting back again seems to solve the problem for others.
I've read somewhere that there is a minimal charge level on these batteries, and if the charge level ever gets below that line, its impossible to recharge the battery again.
Why my battery's (and apperently others') charge level got too low is something for Apple to figure out..
I am getting my battery replaced this week at no cost, since my macbook is barely two weeks old by now.

  • FileServer Resource Failed - No storage is available message.

    1st node: TSMCTN (Working Fine)
    2nd node: TSMCTADM (FileServer-(TSMCTNADM)(Cluster Disk 3) Failed)
First attempt, I try to delete File Server Resource without CAP (Client Access Point), it give me the network name "hostname+FQDN" is already in used
    in the network.
2nd I tried deleted CAP and adding back File Server Resource, it still give me the same error message as above.
3rd, I'm Added back CAP and I tried to use other CAP name when adding a File Server resource in HA wizard, is working fine, but in add storage wizard selection, it prompt me no storage is available message.
    Question I have is -
1.) Is there a correct steps for Adding a File Server resources in Failover cluster manager? e.g. 1st CAP, 2nd File Server, 3rd Disk Drives...

Hi Umesh, thanks for your tips, but it does not help me on that. It still prompted " there are no available disks in the cluster "
    Let me elaborate more about this;
In Storage at Failover Cluster Manager, I have four cluster disks is Online.
    Disk Witness in Quorum
    Cluster Disk 1 = Online
    TSMCTN
    Cluster Disk 2 = Online
    TSMCTNADM
    Cluster Disk 3 = Online
    Cluster Disk 4 = Online
My question here is, I have a problem to add back File Server resource in tsmctnadm cluster node due to no storage available, is that mean I have to de-attached Cluster Disk 3/4 and Remove from Tsmctnadm cluster in order to get back my file server resource
    and then later add back?

  • CIMC on C210 server throws Error 2001: Service not available message

I am trying to configure vmware on a brand new C210 server for the first time and the directions say to access the CIMC and load the vmware media. Sounds easy enough except every time I go to the CIMC webpage I recieve an " error 2001: Service not available"  message on every page I go to and none of the server info fields are populated. If I try to make any changes and save my settings the same message pops up and no changes are saved. Almost like the CIMC doesn't recognize the server or hardware. I ran the host update utility just now and upgraded the firmware for everything to the latest version but still no progress. Anyone have this happen or know how I can fix this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jess

I got it working on one of the servers, and havent tried the same solutions on any other server.
What i did was manually adding an IP adress to the management IP, then save the config before rebooting. After rebooting i put it back to get IP from DHCP, and saved the config. After a secound reboot i was able to use the mangement interface without the 2001 error.
I'm not sure if it will work on the rest of the servers, but it's worth a try

  • No Available Message Stores

I have had this problem ever since I've had my 8310 curve.  Everytime I try to configure the calendar synchronization with Microsoft Outlook 2003 I get the message "Outlook Connector Error: No available message stores"
I have combed through various forums and none of the solutions offered worked.  I have tried the mapi32.dll fix and completely erasing the calendar off my blackberry, at least three different times each.  I have read that reinstalling Microsoft Office and disabling add-ons in outlook can solve this but Office came preinstalled on my laptop and I simply bought a product for activation so I am unable to try this solution.
    Configuration:
    Blackberry 8310 Curve
    Handeld Software v4.5.0.110
    Desktop Software v4.7
    Microsoft Outlook 2003
    Outlook Conector
    any ideas?
    thanks

    Here are the steps...
    1. Optional (I did not follow and it worked): Exit out of both the Blackberry Desktop Manager and Microsoft Outlook clients. Make sure that in your task manager that the process Outlook.exe is not running.
    2. In the default Windows XP or Windows Vista installation go to the folder C:\Windows\System32. You can also get there by typing in %systemroot%\system32 into the Start --> Run prompt.
    3. In the System32 folder, find the file "MAPI32.dll" and rename it to "MAPI32.dll.old" or similar.
    4. In the System32 folder, there is another file called "FIXMAPI.EXE" that may just show as FIXMAPI depending on your configuration. Double-click it to execute the file, it will create a new version of MAPI32.dll.
    5. Verify the new file in your System32 folder. You may need to hit F5 to or go to View --> Refresh in order to show the newly created file.
AFTER THIS, you might get a "connector specific error... which I could care less, since mine works even witht that error, but you can reinstall Office (no plugins) supposedly to fix that.  I haven't tried.

  • Microsoft outlook connector error: no available message stores

Any assistance out there on the 2010 MS OFFICE PRO - - upgraded from 2003 and having difficulties sync-ing the device.
"Got a Microsoft Outlook Connector Error - - No Available Message Stores"
Read a few post(s) and it appears that 2010 Office Pro was not yet tested when during Beta period...  Does anyone have any fix for this problem...
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
There are lots and lots of threads in these forums of folks that are either 1) angry in that they thing RIM is going too slow or 2) truly trying to help each other out. The formal response is that 2010 is not yet supported by the RIM DTM software and no expectation of when that shall happen can be provided.
    Good luck!
