No date importing older tapes

Importing tapes recorded since 2001 I have no problems. Each tape is displayed correctly in the mediathek, every day is separated in it's own event. But with older tapes, I can display the recording date in the display of the camcorder (e.g. 1999), but no date and time information is imported in iMovie. The whole tape is imported as one event in the year 2008, with the current date.
I tried CANON MVX1i, CANON MD205 and JVC GR-D818.

To import the tapes is very easy. Start iMovie and connect your MiniDV Camcorder via Firewire to your MAC. The rest is done by iMovie, several dialog boxes will appear. But without the right date information and without any separation in scenes, it's a hard job to make a film.

  • Importing older tapes

I have a Sony Digital8 Handycam. I have video tapes made on this handycam and tapes made on an earlier 8 one. I have noticed that I can't import to imovie video made on my previous handycam. When I select import via imovie it sees the hanycam ie response to the play, stop, FF, and Rev, but does not import.
Any suggestions to get the video to import?
    TCW

I too have a Digital 8 camera and I had the same issue as you did and I got mine to work by fluke.
    1. plug a VCR into the inputs on the Digital 8 camera.
    2. make sure the camera is set-up to let the signal pass thru it to iMovie 08.
    3. hit "play" on the VCR and iMovie should recognize the signal and start to upload.
    4. now with a non-digital 8 movie loaded in the camera, hit "play" on the camera and then hit "stop" on the VCR and the camera signal should take the place of the VCR signal.
    5. I did this a couple of times and by the 3rd time there was no need to even use the VCR signal anymore and iMovie 08 recognized the non-digital 8 tape signal all by itself and I haven't had an issue since.
......as I said, it worked for me for some reason so its worth a shot if your looking for a solution
    good luck.

  • Initial setup probs - importing data from older imac or time machine backup

i just bought a new imac and in the initial install, trying to import the data from older imac. i've tried both firewire and ethernet direct to the older imac (it says it has identified it) and to an external hard drive containing my time machine backups, but the new imac sticks on the "transfer your information" screen calculating both the data and time remaining.
it has been nearly an hour. am i not giving it long enough? any other advice?

  • Importing older .jpegs, not getting renamed and not able to find in catalog

First, I love lightroom. I've been knee deep for 2 weeks and am over 33,000 photos as of this writing.
I am noticing the following when I attempt to import older .jpegs:
At import, I specify to convert to DNG, I know this doesn't work for .jpegs, to add to catalog, to put into files by shooting date, to rename to my custom naming scheme, to backup when importing, etc. I press import.
So when the import begins, all the thumbs have the error in the top right corner, "the photo xyz could not be used because the original file could not be found".
A folder for the date is created in the catalog but has 0 files in it.
So when I click in the prompt to locate the file, it takes me to the folder, and I notice that the file is there however it has not been renamed. It retains its original name from pre import.
The only files I've noted this happening were shot in 2000-2001 with a Sony DSC-S70 camera. I went to look at the original files in mac viewer and they appear to be fine, smaller than today's files, around 512k, 1280x960.
Again, I love Lightroom, so much so, that I've spent the last 3 days, working 12-14 hours a day getting my digital life in order.
This is the only kink I've experienced so far in LR.
So to summarize, during import, the folder is created, the old file namess are copied into it, but in the catalog the new file name is referenced, so when you look in the newly created folder, there are files there, but not with the new names, with the old names, and the file sizes are very small, like 32k, which tells me they aren't the files, but thumbnails of some sort?
I've tried different ways of importing, not renaming files, using original file structure, etc, but nothing has worked.
My theories... Are .jpegs before a certain date not supported? Are these files somehow corrupt? Are they locked?
Thank you very much for your help, when this first started happening, I just deleted the folders that had 0 images in them. Then when I started noticing a pattern, I made notes of the folders I deleted so I can go back in and fill the gaps in, and since then, I've begun tagging all the files that are having this problem since I figured out what was going on so I can hopefully go back in and remedy.
I am using an imac with 4 gig of RAM and LR 2.
    Sincerely,

ok, deleted all the problem images from the catalog and it is much more stable. I tried crashing it, and it held firm. This is very encouraging.
Took a look at the suspect files and folders.
Did what you said, copied into the folder, and then imported without doing anything, they came in fine.
Tried importing and renaming, for some reason still not working.
Living and learning, when importing thousands of images in hundreds of folders, I should have added the step of looking into each folder before importing. I didn't do this. I only looked at the previews in Lr import. When I went back in and looked in the folders, there are several junk files, thumb creation files from other browser programs, html files, other various files, etc. Lr skipped the majority of these junk files, but a few came in and actually caused Lr to crash immediately when the came into view on my monitor.
Were I starting from scratch, I would open each folder, organize it by type and size and then go through with the lightroom import portion.
The way I did it, I imported a lot of low res cropped that I used for web and email, and now they are in my Lr catalog and look like duplicates.
Now that the former prob images are in the Lr dbase, should I try and rename?

  • Why does iMovie stop importing my tape from the camcorder even though it says it is still importing?

Why does iMovie stop importing my tape from the camcorder even though it says it is still importing?

It's difficult to be sure without doing some network packet sniffing, but if it were another app syncing, it would be an awful coincidence, since it seems to happen only while I'm in Reminders.app -- as soon as I click the home button and go back to the home screen, it stops; when I launch Reminders again, it starts again.
Moreover, it happens when I am not in the house, which rules out iTunes syncing.
Note that it's not the syncing spinner (i.e. two arrows chasing each other in a circle) -- it's the data access spinner (like the wait spinner in many apps and the apple.com search box).

  • Problems importing HDV tapes

    Hello everyone,
First time I need to importe HDV tapes, frames recorded on HDV1080i 50i. I use a Sony HDV camera recoder, plug in with an firewire 800.
I set everything as it must be, then when I open the listed and capture the preview is black and when I start to capture it's says something like "missing of datas from the device, check the connections".
Do I need a special firewire cable for HDV images? Cause It works if I want to import some DVcam frames...
Please Help!! Just rent the camera for few days for import tapes...

Also, I have found that the WAY HDV is logged has a big effect as to how easily it can be captured - I used to constantly get the same warning you do. I started to mark my in and out points "on the fly" meaning the tape was rolling (NOT paused) while setting in and out points. Since doing it this way, I have yet to get that warning again. I imagine that it must have something to do with the GOP nature of HDV, but I'm not sure... I can use the same camera and cables to log and capture DV (paused) without an issue. As soon as I switch to HDV, the warning reared it's ugly head unless logged on the fly.

  • Data Import error - Valuation Method (ODBC -1029)

Hello all, first post on the SCN. I did some search for similar problems, but nothing seemed to help here.
We are using Business One, two different companies and databases. We were at the time of the year to update the price list, so we used the Administration -> Data Import/Export -> Data Import -> Import from Excel.
One company (US only) imports perfectly, but the other database (Canada + US) gives me the following error message on 91 / 1036 entries.
Row Number xxx : [Items - Valuation Method] , 'Field cannot be updated (ODBC -1029)
Since the errors only appears on one of the two databases, I ruled out that the excel sheet we used to be the problem.
The excel sheet only has 4 columns : The item identification, the price list that it needs to update, the price, and the currency (USD or $ for us).
Neither of the two companies use any valuation method. In fact, neither companies have the field at all in Item Master Data, and its grayed out in the Company Details.
We also made a dump of the entire item database, and compared what items were imported successfully and those that generated the error, and while the column Valuation Method either had nothing or A, there was no pattern to it. Some errors had nothing, some had A in it.
I checked for any other differences between items that were imported and the ones with error, and cannot see any visible differences, so all I can think here is that its either an invisible setting when the item was created, or there's some character that is creating a fault somewhere (like an empty space).
One of the topics found on this error message (ODBC -1029) said that we might need to request a script to fix the database, but that topic was back in 2006, I'm not sure if it still applies, 8 years later.
Essentially I ran out of things to try on my end. Now I can only ask to the experts.
    Thank you for your time!

The company that has troubles importing does not allow us to change the Valuation Method for each item. The field is missing entirely from the Item Master Data. I included a screenshot.
The field is grayed out in the Company Details, but its set as Moving Average. The other company uses Moving Average by default as well, from the looks of it (the field does appear in Item Master Data, but its grayed out).
We used the same excel sheet to import data in both companies, just need to figure out why its 100% on one side and not on the other side.
Just to be a bit more clear, we cannot select or visualize the Valuation Method on the items that are not getting imported. Its invisible.
When we exported the full list of items, there was no pattern between the items that are not imported and those that are imported properly.
To be clear, the Valuation Method for :
Items that are imported properly are A or blank.
Items that are not imported and generate an error are A or blank.
There is no logic between those that work and those that do not, which is why I can't figure it out on my own.
    Thank you!

  • Data Import defaulting Null date to system date

I am trying to import Campaigns using Data Import, and when End Date is NULL it defaults to system date. Is there any way to avoid this default? Even when I don't "map" the End Date, it still defaults it.
    Thanks!

This file will always populate itself what you have to try to do is establish what is a good date to put in this section. What i have done is created a System default to be today() + 14 this will mean that the end date will be roughly 14 days after it was created. This is then up to the person running the campaign to change if required.

  • Use of ODI in Data Import scenario

    Hi,
We are contemplating to use ODI for a Data Import scenario. The flow goes something like this:
1.A user specified flat file or xml with a mapping between the file columns and base table columns serves as the input.
(Note that the file column names could be anything and that is why we use mapping).
    2. This file data is stored in a stager table and certain validations are run on this data.
    3. This data is then imported into the base tables.
I assume we cannot use ODI for step 1 as the file columns are not fixed and can vary. We need to programmatically interpret the data from the mappings. (Is there a way to do this in ODI?).
If we use ODI for step 3 to import data from stager to base tables:
    - If we have a million records to be imported, then how performant is ODI? Do we need to invoke ODI in batches of (a few thousands) to improve performance?
    - Thanks in Advance,
    Raghu

    Hi Jont,
    Thanks for your reply..
Here is an example of the mapping that we use:
    Flat File columns:
    AccName
    AccLoc
Mapping (Specified by the user at run time):
    AccName -->(Maps to) Account.Name
    AccLoc --> (Maps to) Account.Location
The user would map the file columns to the final target entity fields (like Account.Name) as above.
Since, we have to store this data in a intermediate staging table, we would have a mapping internally (which is fixed), like
    Account.Name -->(maps to) AccStager.Name
    Account.Location -->(Maps to) AccStager.Location
where AccStager.Name is the staging table field name.
Thus, by using these two sets of mapping, we store the file data into staging table.
    Hope this is clear...
    Thanks,
    Raghuveer

  • Data import for users of forms created with Livecycle Designer

    Hello,
I have seen several posts regarding data import for forms created by Livecycle Designer but nothing that helps with something I am trying to accomplish.  I can create a data connection and import information in a form but what I would like to do is import data, then send the pdf for completion to a user.  There are a few data elements that I have available and the rest of the information comes from from the user.  The problem I run into is once I create a data connection, the pdf is ALWAYS looking for the source file for that data.  I simply want to prepopulate some fields and send to the various users for completion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Which type of Data Connection are you trying to create?
XML Schema, Sample Data File or WSDL?
Creating any one of first two types(mentioned above) will only create schema and will never import any data into PDF.
If you create the WSDL connection, you can surely import data (i.e. prepopulate data) into your PDF and forward it for users review/fill.
If I misunderstood your question, please get me clarified.

  • Reset sequence after data import

    Hi all,
I've got a problem where we import data into a table with an auto-incremented field for a primary key. After the data import, I can drop the sequence, check the max(primary key), and re-create it to start at the max value + 1. My problem is that I need to do this for a large number of tables and don't know how to write a script to do it. In the Create Sequence command, whenever I try to use a variable in the "START WITH" clause, I get an error.
    Thanks in advance,
    Raymond

Spool sequence creation scipt result in a file and then run it.
    Or use dynamic sql.
Or You can "drive" sequence forward issuing select myseq.nextval from dual; apropriate times. If You need "drive" sequence backwards alter it with increment -1, issue select myseq.nextval from dual; apropriate times and alter it with previous increment.

  • Data Import Wizard from Excel on DATE column

I have exported data to a csv in Oracle SQL Developer and one of the columns are of an Oracle Date datatype. In opening up Excel I see the Date column represented as 15-MAY-01 12.00.00.000000000 AM.
I am now going through the Data Import Wizard to create a new table and import the data. When I get to Step 3 of 4 it reads the data and assigns it a VARCHAR2. I want the column to be Date or Timestamp. In this case I choose timestamp and for format entered DD-MON-YY hh.mi.ss.fffffffff AM.
When I go to Step 4 of 4 to and click the Verify button I get:
"Verifying if the Date columns have date formats" Date columns DOT_LOGN_EFDT, have invalid or null date formats.
I am using Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63 Build 63.73.
Any idea what I put in the format window to read the excel value of 15-MAY-01 12.00.00.000000000 AM correctly?

I am not able to reproduce your problem. When I export a date column, I do not get the time portion. This is the expected behavior. When re-importing the date, I therefore have no problem. I have tried manipulating the tools->preferences->database->nls->date format mask to include the time (and fractional seconds), but export still only exports the date portion. The fractional seconds is not valid for a date field, which explains the import error you are getting. The question remains as to why the exported data has the time. Can you describe your exact steps for doing the export?
