No destination to be found when trying to reinstall/restore macbook 10.4.8

I've been searching everywhere for some type of helpful forum but haven't found one. (or maybe I'm just not using the right search words.)
My Macbook first showed problems when it froze and didn't turn back on as it normally does after I reboot it. There was this folder with a question mark that kept ocming up. So, I follow the advice I found on many forums and inserted the restore cd and tried to restore it. All looked good until I came to the Select a Destination page - There was no destination to pick from! I've exhausted all ideas and am desperate to know what to do next. Please, if anyone out there knows what's going on, please help. It's a Macbook 2GHz and 512MB.

Hi mschhe,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
Make sure you have a complete backup since the solution to your problem requires a complete erase of the hard disk!!!
1. Insert the Install DVD and reboot while holding down the c-key
2. Once the installer has started and you selected your language, go to the MENU and select "Disk Utility"
3. Click your hard disk in the sidebar, then reformat it.
4. Quit disk utility and proceed with a normal install.
5. After the restart Repair permissions!
6. Download and apply the Standalone Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (Intel)
7. repair permissions again!
Good luck!

  • Keep getting Disc Burner or software not found when trying to burn a CD

I am not able to burn a playlist to a CD and get an error at the top of Itunes window "Disc Burner or Software Not Found". I have been able to burn CDs in the past with this same computer but had some issues with songs in itunes. Support had me uninstall Itunes and reinstall. I have also uninstalled the device in the device manager and re-installed it. I really don't know what to try except to ask for help here. I would appreciate any direction I can get. I have a Dell desktop XPS running on Windows 8.

    Hi daurel,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you receive the error "Disc Burner or Software Not Found" when trying to burn CDs. You mention that you've already tried removing and reinstalling iTunes, and other drivers, and these are good steps.
If the situation continues, be sure to try the tips in this article:

  • HT1923 did anyone get the apple application support was not found when trying to instal?

I am having trouble instaling itunes.  has anyone got the apple application support was not found when trying to instal itunes?  it looks like it is not installing all of files to my computer and it can not reach a certain folder

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    Hello queenabs,
It sounds like you are trying to burn a playlist to a disc in iTunes, but you are getting the error, "disc burner or software not found."  I found a couple of resources that I think might help with an error like this.
I recommend starting with the steps in this article:

I keep getting error code -43 not found when trying to load certain instruments. Any ideas?

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

  • Error when trying to reinstall MBAM with SCCM

We have SCCM 2012 R2 installed and I installed MBAM 2.0 SP1 with all the components on the same server.  Well that was a mistake as the website for MBAM took over and SCCM communication with all the clients was broken.  So I found a TechNet article
that said I should only install the SCCM Integration Feature of MBAM and then install the other components on another VM.  I then proceeded to uninstall all the MBAM components and SCCM started working properly again.  I then went to reinstall just
the SCCM integration feature of MBAM and I got the error that SCCM Objects already installed.  The resolution says "One or more components of the MBAM System Center Configuration Manager Objects have
already been installed.  If the objects were previously installed then they were intentionally not removed. Please refer to the System Center Configuration Manager documentation on how to properly remove the installed MBAM System Center Configuration
Manager objects. More information can be found at:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=276922.
I went to that link and did the removal steps and I still get the error when trying to reinstall it.  Why am I still getting the error message?

You have to remove the MBAM Supported Computers collection, The two BitLocker configuration items, the BitLocker configuration baseline, and the MBAM reports in CM, including the folder called MBAM (you will have to go to your SSRS server URL for your
reporting services point to be able to delete the folder).

Install errors have nothing to do with activations. Otherwise nobody can tell you much without proper system info and other details.

  • HT5678 I get an error message when trying to actualise my MacBook Air. It is running OSX 10.8.3

I get an error message when trying to actualise my MacBook Air. It is running OSX 10.8.3. Exactly the same thing happens on my iMac24 !!

I'm having a similar problem. Using software update, iTunes 8.2 begins to download. It gets to about 41 megabytes and then times out. I get various error messages including that I'm not connected to the internet, and the directory didn't have the right permissions, etc.
I don't really use iTunes that much, but I use my iPhone ALL the time and would like to upgrade my iPhone software. Unfortunately, I have to have iTunes 8.2 to do that.
Is anyone from Apple listening?? There seem to be multiple posts about this problem. This is a very un-Mac-like problem.
    Thanks

After a virus when trying to reinstall Photoshop 6.0, I was told the serial no. on the disk was not valid. what do I do?

Normally the serial number is not on the disk but is instead on the disk case.
Can you clarify if this is Photoshop 6.0 or is it Photoshop CS6?  Photoshop 6 might be too old to have activation support.
