No network connection / interfaces in LiveCD

Hello world! For the first time I can't get a network connection while installing, did everything as usual until giving the pacstrap command it couldn't connect to the servers. The very same livecd worked fine installing on a laptop.
Here's some basic outputs:
ifconfig -a # shows "lo" only
ip link # same here too
lspci # 00:19.0 Intel 82579V
lsmod # e1000e 0
Does that last one mean the driver is lacking and I have bad luck with this specific controller not working on the go? If so, what can I do?

Not sure if the same physical copy, so it might boot a newer release than then. I'll try with an older release tomorrow. What does this regression mean by the way?
edit: It is indeed a newer release I tried the past weeks. I'll try with this older Evo-CD I just found!

  • Netsh does not work to set IP address of "Wireless Network Connection"

    On Windows 7 Professional
This set of commands work for configuring the "Local Area Connection"
netsh interface ip set address name="local area connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
netsh interface ip set dns name="local area connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="local area connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2
BUT for the WiFi connection, this command errors with this message "ELEMENT NOT FOUND"
netsh interface ip set address name="Wireless Network Connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
BUT the 2 following dns commands DO work for the Wifi Connection.
netsh interface ip set dns name="Wireless Network Connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="Wireless Network Connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2

    I FOUND A SOLUTION
I manually renamed the interface from "Wireless Network Connection" to "Wifi"
Then when I use "WiFi" in the command line, I no longer get the
    ELEMENT NOT FOUND error.
I have no idea why renaming the interface works . . as shown on original post above, "set dns name" command worked without the name change, but the "IP set Address" did not work.
Anybody know what this is about ?

Here's what I got. I cleared down DNS as it told me to do but still not working.

  • Mac Mini *half* loses all network connections

Cheers folks, new one on me.  I have a Mac Mini 2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo. It's running a fully-updated 10.6.8.  It's connected via ethernet to an Airport Extreme which is extending an 802.11N network from another Airport Extreme elsewhere which is connected to the router.  The network is set with IPv6 *off* and is configured to run over Ethernet normally (this is because a wired-only NAS is connected to the same Airport Extreme as the Mini).
Here's the symptom, and it's an odd one for me:   Every couple of days, the entirety of the Mac OS X layer (not the BSD layer) will lose network connectivity.  More specifically:
No web browser will work ('Not connected to the Internet').
Home Sharing, served on this Mini, will cease to be visible from elsewhere in the house (AppleTVs lose it).
No internal services can be reached by name, either DNS or BonJour.
The App Store says 'can't connect.'
iTunes will say it can't connect to the ITMS.
This is true on Ethernet *or* on Airport (the Mini usually runs on ethernet alone with AirPort off; bringing up Airport once this has occurred doesn't seem to help anything).
Running the Airport Utility, it sees *no devices* (there are 4 on this network)
    BUT!
If I go into the Terminal, I can not only get clear network traffic anywhere I want at the TCP layer, DNS seems to work as well.  So the following is true also:
'ping cisco.com' (or any valid DNS name) works fine - resolves DNS, pings.
'traceroute cisco.com' works fine - resolves DNS, traceroutes out across the internet, no problems.
'ping <IP address of NAS>' - works fine.
    'dig <name>' - works fine.
pinging the gateway (the router airport) works fine.
    Also:
Other Macs in the house (on wired OR wireless, connected to any of the AirPorts including the same one as the Mini) work fine.
Other Macs can see the NAS connected to that same AirPort fine.
iOS devices in the house connected to any AirPort work fine.
netstat -r shows what look to be proper routes - i.e. the default gateway is the router address (10.0.1.1) and the route to 10.0.1.1 is shown to be the MAC address of the router's Ethernet interface (anyway, as I mentioned above, network stuff from the shell works fine<!?!??!
    Steps tried:
    Turning off ipv6 - nope.
    Applying all firmware/software updates (OS X 10.6.8) - nope.
Tried manually setting DNS to Google public DNS servers - nope.  Those work fine, and are still set when the network drops out, and then don't work, nor does setting new DNS servers in the Network prefpane.
    Logging out/back in - nope.
Restarting the computer:  YES.  This works, all three times this has happened (all this week).  Serious PITA.
I tried going through the system log, but I don't see anything notable that changes or is logged when the network connection drops.
Every time the connection has stopped working, the computer *has* slept at some point since it was last known working, but if I sleep the computer manually, everything seems fine.
.....waaaaaaaah!  Help, this one is making me crazy. :-)  Thanks.  I'm terminal-savvy, and fairly OS X savvy.

I still have this issue.  About every one hour - two days the DNS layer will stop working and only a restart will fix it.
Killing mDNSResponder only resolves the issue sometimes and even then for a few seconds.
I have now found and created the following bash script, to see if this will be a more reliable non-restart fix that killing mDNSResponder in the terminal:
    #!/bin/bash
#Script to unload and reload mDNS as it is a bit crappy
    sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
    echo "mDNS unloaded"
    sleep 5
    sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
    echo "mDNS loaded"
    sleep 5
echo "Hopefully you can get on with browsing again"
I saved the above as mdns_reload.command, and then in Terminal ran "chmod u+x mdns_reload.command".  This makes the script executable.
The next time the problem occurs I am going to test how good this script is as a resolution.
The second time the problem occurs I am going to try the following, from a different thread from 2011:
I don't know if anyone will be helped by this, but the Macbook problems connecting to the internet are directly related to DNS issues. I discovered this after an upgrade to the OS X Lion preview.
The symptoms are as follows: a macbook (pro, mini, etc) can get an IP address from a DHCP server on any given network, but can not connect to the internet, even though other computers on the same network have no issues. If this sounds familiar, read on.
The problem is not related to 3rd party products, routers, Airport settings, locations or public vs private DNS servers, and you don't need to reset SMC or PRAM.
You will need to use terminal and you DO NOT want to use disk utility to repair permissions.
The most direct way to fix this is to copy the com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist and com.apple.mDNSResponderHelper.plist files from an internet connected Mac into your /System/Library/LaunchDaemons directory.
(You should know that it probably doesn't matter what version of OS X you have or the other Mac has, you just need the files.)
Next you will need to change ownership of the files just copied (ex: chown root:wheel /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist and chown root:wheel /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponderHelper.plist)
Then, you will need to set correct permissions (ex: chmod -R 755 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist and chmod -R 755 /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist)
The last thing you'll want to do is to verify that the ownership of the files copied is set to system (and maybe wheel) using "Get Info." (Conversely, you can use ls -l /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist to verify owner and permissions.)
You should not have to restart to connect immediately to the internet.

Now I want to establish network connectivity by configuring net work card in it.also I want to establish connectivity with Intel Systems also. How can I accomplish this.
I will be grateful to you if u cud guide me in this.

I think the V20z have an ordinary broadcom chipset, if so the network interface should be called bgeX.
    So try:
    ifconfig bge0 plumb
.. dont forget your /etc/hostname.bge0 file..

  • GUI Bug / Suggestion - View Network Connection Settings

I'm currently running Windows Server Technical Preview in a VMware Workstation environment.  When I click on the network icon in the system tray, and then proceed to click on "View Network Connection Settings", nothing happens.  Is this
    a bug?
I know in the desktop OS this opens PC Settings which doesn't exist in Server, but it makes sense for this button to link to "Network Connections" or even "Network and Sharing Center" in Server.

Enable Desktop Experience. Server with a GUI is not the full GUI, you need to enable Desktop Experience (on User Interface options), Fax Server (for Windows Fax and Scan), Server Backup, wireless, XPS Viewer and GUI for Windows Defender, to make use of
the full graphical experience. Some shortcuts and elements in the GUI make sense only after you activate thoose functions. Windows Server seems a modified version of Windows client x64, more or less, some leftovers from the client origin still remain
in the server version. Some client features are present, but turned off by default, if you want to experiment, you can enable them. Windows Server can become very close to the Windows client, if you know what to turn on.

  • 2008 r2 hyper-v guest with static IP always looses network connectivity after every restart - no problem with DHCP

    Hello,
We are running 2008 R2 domain with one physical DC and other running in VM on Hyper-V host (2008 R2 Standard). The host has 4 NICs and is configured to use one physical NIC for itself (management) and the hyper-v guest is configured to use another dedicated/physical
NIC (through microsoft virtual switch) just for itself.
I noticed that after setting the hyper-v guest with a static IP address all works fine only until guest restart. When the guest boots up the IP address is still configured correctly in IPv4 properties, but there is no network connectivity at all and in fact
the guest shows running APIPA config in ipconfig /all output. That situation continues until I remove the virtual NIC from hyper-v guest, remove the virtual switch from dedicated NIC on host and then reconfigure it (using same settings as they were). very
    annoying.
For time being I switched the virtual DC (problematic hyper-v guest) to a DHCP IP and configured DHCP server (running on physical DC machine, not on hyper-v host) to store a reservation for the hyper-v guest so it always gets the same "static"
    IP configuration.
Is there some kind of a problem/bug with using static IP on (2008 R2) hyper-v guests? is there a hotfix for static IP config in hyper-v guest environment?
both 2008 R2 OSes (host and guest) are up to date with all updates (synced with Microsoft, not WSUS).

OK, I'm not at the office now, but took my time to test out the restart scenarios on problematic virtual guest remotely.
No dice, same as it was, everything works fine after guest has IP configured in DHCP mode (IP reservation of 192.168.1.5 for specific MAC address) and it doesn't work after restart in static IP mode (same address, works before restart of guest).
I also took "arp -a" outputs at each step from host server and that was always saying there is only a single host (192.168.1.5 = VDC = problematic virtual guest) assigned to that IP address and always with same MAC, so that pretty much rules out
ARP/MAC troubles and no issues with switches/routers getting spoofed. Problem is most likely with the virtual guest (WS2008R2) or within the host running same OS.
    Here are outputs:
    A) VDC has IP configured in DHCP mode - always same, survives through restart (all works)

On Monday I will install more test guests in Hyper-V host (WS2008R2), in variety of flavors like 7x64, 8.1x64, ws2012r2, and see if they show similar problems with static IP configuration when utilizing a dedicated NIC from host server.
Don't get me wrong, I can live with virtual DC running on DHCP IP reservation (which is based on MAC), because the virtual DC pretty much requires a physical PDC (hosting also DHCP in my network) to be present for safety reasons ... however I prefer a static
IP configuration on all servers, hence my question and surprise why it doesn't work.

  • Windows 2012 Datacenter R2 - Network Connections Confusion

I have recently created a 2012 Datacenter install with the goal to create virtualize test lab.
As part of the install two connections were created:
    1. Labeled 'Ethernet' with Hyper-V Extensible Virtual Switch protocol enabled.
2 Labeled 'Network 2' vEthernet (....Controller - Virtual Switch) with the standard networking protocols enabled.
    3. Network 2 interface is connected to the local area network.

I am confused with the purpose of the network connection "Ethernet" and Hyper-Virtual Switch protocol and how this relates the "network 2" interface. I uncertain which network connection is the physical connections.
I have tried to research this with "windows 2012 datacenter network connection configuration, setup, and etc.",  the results are a lot of the complex examination of setting of Hyper-V implementation, clusters, DHCP, and etc.
I hoping to locate information that will explain the fundamentals of these related technologies (tutorial, youtube videos, etc.).  Any helpful advice is welcome.

    Hi,
Based on the information which you provide, you created an External virtual switch, which binds to the physical network adapter so that virtual machines can access a physical network.
->I am confused with the purpose of the network connection “Ethernet” and Hyper-Virtual Switch protocol and how this relates the “network 2” interface. I uncertain which network connection is the physical connections.
->Network 2 interface is connected to the local area network.
Based on your description, I suppose that you encountered some problems with understanding virtual network switch. When we install Hyper-V and create an external virtual network, the management operating system uses a new virtual network
adapter to connect to the physical network. The network connections consist of the original network adapter and the new virtual network adapter. The original physical network adapter does not have anything bound to it. However, the virtual network adapter
has all of the standard protocols and services bound to it. Here, the “vEthernet” is the new virtual network adapter, and the “Ethernet” was the original physical network adapter. Hyper-V binds the Virtual Network Service Protocol to the physical network adapter
when an external virtual network is created. So the “Ethernet” has the Hyper-V Extensible Virtual Switch only. The physical adapter was equal to a virtual switch at this moment, all networking traffic is routed though the virtual switch.
And to the physical machine, due to the physical adapter is a virtual switch now, so the new virtual network adapter is its network adapter now. So we can see the all TCP/IP configurations of vEthernet are the same with the local area
    network.
For more details about virtual network switch, please refer to the link below,

  • Standby cisco ACE loadbalancer issues (network connectivity)

    Hi ALL,
We are having issues with the secondary (standby) load balancer ACE module on a 6500 switch. We see that the loadblanacer is not able to get onto the network which leads to problem with fault tolerance as well. Following is the ft status found on the load balancer for one of the contexts (this is the same pattern seen on all the contexts).
    switch/Admin# sh ft group status
    FT Group                     : 1
    Configured Status            : in-service
    Maintenance mode             : MAINT_MODE_OFF
    My State                     : FSM_FT_STATE_ACTIVE
    Peer State                   : FSM_FT_STATE_UNKNOWN
    Peer Id                      : 1
    No. of Contexts              : 1
Sh arp on all the contexts shows the gateway/rserver to be unreachable. Please find the screenshot below for one of the contexts (the same pattern is seen on the LB for all other contexts)

  • "The network connection has timed out" -- HELP!

Ever since i downloaded itunes 7 i have been getting this message whenever i try to access itunes
"Itunes could not connect to the itunes store. The network connection has timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."
I have tried everything that apple has suggested in their help and support pages. I no clue what to do now since my internet is running perfectly fine.
Also whenever i insert a cd into my rom, itunes wont load the album into its interface or recognize that there is even a cd in the rom. I am thinking this is occuring because itunes cant access the internet.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I had exactly the same problem, and finally found a solution this week. If its the same problem as i had it is to do with your firewalls. I know weveryone on here keeps saying go into control panel, then firewalls and make sure itunes is selected as an exception etc etc. I did all of this and still had the same problem.
My problem laid in other firewall software that had been installed on my PC when i bought it, and not windows firewall. I have EZ Armor installed which is anti-virus and firewall software. I uninstalled the firewall part and everything works fine. I can import music from cds and gracenotes can find the track names, and i can access the itunes store. I am waiting to hear back from Computer Associates who make EZ Armor as to how i can reinstall the fireall and make itunes an exception, as obviously i would prefer to have the firewall protection.
My suggestion is to check your PC for any anti-virus and firewall software that you might not even know you are running, and uninstall it.
    Hope this helps

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.6 network connection issues

    Dear Guru ,
after install OEL 6.6 x86_64 I noticed that the network connection is disconnect after while and need to manually choose the network connection Ex.(system eth0)
how to troubleshooting this issues and how to resolve it
    Thanks

Oracle Linux 6 installs with all network connections disabled by default. If you're running a desktop environment, you can tell NetworkManager to start the interface automatically on boot. Right-click the network icon in the top right-hand corner and select "Edit connections". Then, highlight the interface you want to start on boot and click "Edit", finally click "Connect automatically". Note this can also be done by configuring the interface during installation.
If you are not running a desktop environment, you will have to edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX file and set ONBOOT=yes.

  • Programs that require a network connection won't work because there is no virtual IP address available for this session.

Programs that require a network connection won't work because there is no virtual IP address available for this session.  Per application IP virtualization is enabled.
There are in fact available IP address's within the dhcp scope.  Before I dig to deep into root cause.. Could the problem be RDS CAL licensing running out, or isn't that not a symptom of my error message?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
As per my research, there is no any issue related to RDS CAL licensing. Prior to the issue which you are facing, there are some basic setting which need to configure.
Application Compatibility – Turn on Remote Desktop IP virtualization
Some applications require a unique IP address, which is by default logically not the case if the application is running on RD Session Host. To solve this issue, Remote Desktop IP Virtualization is introduced. With this setting you enable the IP virtualization
feature. When enabling this setting you need to specify if the virtual IP is provided per session or per program. When using per program you need to define the executable to which an IP address should be configured. Desktop IP virtualization also needs the
    configuration of the next setting.
Application Compatibility – Select the network adapter to be used for Remote Desktop IP Virtualization
When you need to use Remote Desktop IP virtualization configuring this setting is mandatory. You need to specify the IP address of the Network Interface Card which should be used for this feature. Besides the IP address you need also to specify the network
mask using the slash notation, for example 192.168.77.201/24.
