No Public Folder

I am just starting to use my mini for home networking, and I do not seem to have a Public Folder to drop files into to share. The help menu says it should be under my Home in the finder, but there is no folder there called Public. How can I get one?

Do like what BDAqua said, just make a folder in your home directory named Public.
If you launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app, and type ls -ld Public (those are lower-case L's, not upper-case i's) you should see something that reads similar to
drwxr-xr-x 5 etehall staff 170 May 23 Public/
If you have something different than "drwxr-xr-x" then type chmod -vv 755 Public
To create a drop box in your Public folder, navigate in Finder to the Public folder and make a new folder and name it Drop Box. Then, back in Terminal.app, type cd Public and chmod -vv 733 Drop\ Box (include that "\" before the space; it was not a typo). Then you can ⌘q Terminal. You might need to reboot to make the icons look right. But, that should get you your public and drop box folders restored.

  • CU8 Update - Public Folder Calendar and Contacts show up in OWA that no longer exist and I cannot access when selecting.

We recently updated to CU8. I went to test out the new Public Folder access to calendars and contacts.  I first go to Calendars in OWA and I see a list of several calendars.  I see one that is listed twice, one I can open and the other states "Couldn't
open calendar - A connection couldn't be made with the shared calendar. Remove the calendar and try to add it again, or ask the owner to share it again." I also see other calendar's that we used in the past but no longer reside under public folders.
I get the same error on them.
For People, I can go there and I see a section called "Public Folder" and there is a contact list called "IT Team Contacts".  When I click on it, it states in the middle pane "Your request can't be completed right now.
Please try again later."  This contact list is not on our public folders.
Any ideas on why we I'm seeing these issues?
    Thanks,
    Jeff Dailey

Seems like some orphaned PF favorites. You should be able to remove them from Outlook, or via MFCMAPI

  • Public Folder Migration Fails from Exchange 2007 to 2013

I am attempting to sync public folders between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013.  All the data has been copied over to the Exchange 2013 server but I am getting an error when creating the folders and their permissions.
I saw a previous thread which looked similar and I have set the bad item limit to one million as well as set mail-disable on the source public folders but I am still receiving these errors.
    I set the following commands
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Set-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -baditemlimit 1000000
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Resume-PublicFolderMigrationRequest
and on the source mailbox server:
    Get-publicfolder \Non_IPM_subtree -Recurse | Disable-MailPublicFolder

  • Public Folder Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013

    Hi Guys,
I have a general Exchange 07-13 migration question about migrating the PF's and System Folder Information, I read somewhere that the SystemFolder info doesn't come across, can someone shed some light on this for me please?
    Thanks,
    Ray

    Hi Ray,
Free/Busy information is stored in system public folder. If you want to decommission the Exchange 2007 Server, you need to add the replicas to Exchange 2013 Server.
What's more, if the users use Outlook 2003, they will rely on the Free/Busy folders. If the users are using Outlook 2007 or newer, then Outlook utilizes something called the Availability Service and no longer relies on the Free/Busy folder.
Please refer to the following article to migrate public folders from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.

Besides, here is a helpful thread for your reference.

    Hope it helps.

  • Public Folder Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 fails RelinquishedWlmStall budget limitations

I have been trying to migrate approx 50 public folders from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 for several months.  I have followed every link I can find on how to do the migration properly.  It will stay in a queued state for hours until the MRS is
restarted.  It will then start copying messages.  After reaching 28% I get RelinquishedWlmStall as Status Detail.  Running the Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequestStatistics -IncludeReport | fl command I get the following: (truncated)

  • Outlook clients are connecting to different site public folder rather than same site public folder on exchange 2010

    Team,
users are unable to expand public folder from outlook, but they are able to navigate through outlook web access.
noticed the outlook connections are connected to other child domain PF server rather than local site public folder server.
due to this issue, users are unable to navigate to pf's , by restarting RPC Client access service , now users are able to connect to local public folder servers.
all the databases are pointed to local pf database. all the settings looks good.
    any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Srinivasa,
    How about OWA?
If it works in OWA, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
I suggest run Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins.
I also suggest make sure the Outlook client has the latest patch.
    Also try to re-install Outlook.
    Thanks

  • How to regain access to public folder items

    Hi All,
We have a few public folder items (mainly calendars) for which i (the admin) have no(or limited) access to.
In outlook 2010 if i go to the properties of the public calendar i can only see an entry for Administrators for which has the access of only "Author"
If i log into the exchange server powerscript shell and try and run
    Get-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity \"<Item name>"
    I get the following error:
No existing 'PublicFolderEntry' matches the following Identity: '\<Item name>'. Make sure that you specif
ied the correct 'PublicFolderEntry' Identity and that you have the necessary permissions to view 'PublicFolderEntry'.
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Get-PublicFolderClientPermission], MapiObjectNotFoundException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : C8510C4,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.MapiTasks.GetPublicFolderClientPermission
These are items have had existed in exchange since before it started and from Exchange 2003 to now Exchange 2010.
Is there a way i can force the Administrator to have Owner rights on these items again?
    Thanks

Ok... for all those other unfortunate souls out there who have no answer... here's the deal... The "Failed to Modify MAPI.NET Table" error is due to a problem with your DACL (permissions) table on the public folder(s). But, Exchange 2010 doesn't provide
any utilities to correct this! exFolders replaces most PVDavAdmin functions but is does not have the "Fix DACL" option built in.
After all my research and troubleshooting I discovered that the DACL issue was because I had entered explict permissions for the built-in Administrators group. This was resulting in the following error in event viewer: "The mailbox '' contains a folder <NAME
OF MY PUBLIC FOLDER> with a security descriptor that violates the canonical format."
Since I could not remove the existing public folders OR modify their permissions, but could still read their content, I copied all the content over to my mailbox. I then wanted to start completely fresh and created a new public folder store following the
    below steps:
    1. Dismount public folder database
    2. Move public folder database file and log (as a backup, not going to reuse it though)
    3. Mount public folder database (creates a new blank public folder database)
*** NOTE: I could have probably just continued with the new blank public folder database, but I wanted to clear out all the old stuff and be sure it was all new and clean. So I continued through the following steps.
    4. Delete public folder database
    5. Delete database file and log files
    6. Opened ADSIEdit and deleted the existing "Folder Hierarchies" object from this location: Configuration\Services\Microsoft Exchange\<organization name>\Administrative groups
*** NOTE: The next two steps are optional, as Exchange will do them for you when you create a new public folder database. BUT, exchange does NOT correctly assign the msExchPublicFolderTreeContainer class to the Folder Hierarchies object! It just makes it a
container. So I opted to manually create it to force it to use the right class
    7. Recreated the "Folder Hierarchies" object in the same location (class is msExchPublicFolderTreeContainer)
    8. Create "Public Folders" object under "Folder Hierarchies" (class is msExchPFTree and attribute msExchPFTreeType MUST be set to 1)
    9. Went back to EMC, Organization Configuration, Mailbox, Database Management, and right clicked to create a new public folder database.
    10. Restart Information Store Service
Once I had done all that I opened up outlook and created a new public folder. I then highlighted all the items in my mailbox that I had copied out of the original folder and copied them into this new public folder. As long as I do not add public folder permissions
for the built-in Administrators group, then I am able to manage public folder permissions without any errors. I haven't tested to see if the same error occurs for other built-in security groups.

  • Changed Outlook Contact Form back to IPM.Contact - now I can't save contact in Public Folder

I recently changed the Contact form that we were using back to the default IPM.Contact. I did this so that it  would be consistent for only a few of us had a custom contact template to use and it made it difficult to share contact information. After
changing the contact default back to IPM.Contact and changing all the contacts to reflect the default Message class, no can add a contact to the Public Folder contact file. I have tried several different setting for the permsion. Publishing Author, Publish
Editor, Owner, it still gives the error
The item cannot be saved to this folder. The folder was deleted, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the degfualt folder for the item.
When I changed the form back to IPM.Contact  i ran the omglass.exe to change it on all the contacts in the public folder.
Please advise for no contacts can now be added to our company contact list

    Hi,
Please right-click this public folder, click Properties. In the General tab, make sure the field of "When posting to this folder, use" is set to IPM.Contact.
Please restart Outlook with Outlook /checkclient switch(Start > Run > type Outlook /checkclient and enter) to have a try. If it fails, please create a new Outlook profile to have a try:

  • Safari Won't open password protected Graphite Filesharing Public folder

    Dear people,
Using Homepage I made my Public folder available to a small group of people, whom I gave my password. I chose Graphite Filesharing. Starting about half a year ago, I got mor and more complaints from people not being able to Login. The password is not refused, but the dialog keeps coming back. This only happens in Safari 3 and Safari 4. Firefox works fine.
If you need more info, then please leave a URL where I can post a formal bug report with all the details.
    Kind regards,

Thanks. Unfortunately that didn't work for me. I tried deleting the bookmark and visiting the site by typing in the address. The same problem still persists. I just sit there staring at the loading symbol spin and spin - hypnotized with anticipation.

  • How do public folder mailboxes across multiple DAGs work?

I have three Exchange 2013 DAGs in three different sites.  The three DAGs can communicate with each other fine but not necessarily the users in the sites.  Users in Site A can communicate with the Dags in Site B and Site C.  Users in Site
B can only communicate with the DAG in Site A and Site B.  Users in Site C can only communicate with the DAG in Site A and Site C.
I want the site specific public folders to live in a public folder mailbox on their local DAG.  My questions are as follows:
    1. If a user in Site A had rights to every public folder in all public folder mailboxes would all of the Public Folders show in Outlook for them?
    2. What's the best method of migrating from Exchange 2007 PFs to this?  Can I map certain Public Folders to certain PF Mailboxes?
    Thanks.

    1.  They should, yes.
    2.  Yes, you can.  There are migration scripts you download, and after you run the script, you can change the folder-to-mailbox mapping to suit your needs.  The process is pretty intuitive.

  • How to set up multiple mac user accounts and one itunes (ie saved in public folder)

new windows migration to mac; trying to configure multiple user accounts on a new mac (os x 10.7) and have the itunes set up so we all point to the same instance (ie, public folder, one apple id).  need some help structuring/ sharing/ mapping please.  thanks.

Create two separate user accounts. One account for each user. See Mac OS X 10.7 Help- Create a new user or group account.

  • Is there any way for additions made by one user of a shared library to be visible to the other user of the same library, without having to always "add file to library"?  This was the whole reason we consolidated the library into a public folder

My wife and I share a computer but have separate Windows ID's.  We also each have an iTunes account, using two separate Apple ID's.  We have always struggled with the headache of getting music that one of us added (via purchase, downloading CD, etc.) to the other person's music library.  A friend suggested we consolidate and share the same library.  Sounded like a good idea so we moved the libraries to a public folder, consolidated them, etc.  But now when one of us adds music to the library, the other person still has to do an "add file/folder to library" in order for them to be able to see it.  This is exactly the step we were hoping to eliminate by this consolidation.  Does anyone know if there is a way to make this happen automatically, or will we have to continue to do this every time?
Also, ended up with a lot of duplicates in the process of consolidating.  Is there any way to identify and "mass delete" these?  It will take a while to go through them all individually as the library is somewhat substantial (approx. 16k songs)
Hardware is Windows 8, one iPod classic, one iPod Nano (obviously only selected playlists on this one).  All hardware and iTunes running latest software.
    Any information would be appreciated!

It sounds like you are using two independent libraries with a common media folder, whereas the plan would have been to ensure that both profiles were using the same library library database. Although you can place this within the Public folder I would normally create a shared library at the root of a drive, e.g. at X:\iTunes where X: is the drive that you want to use. See Make a split library portable for information on moving the library around back into a standard shape.
As for duplicates, Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See thisthread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning
to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • When sending e-mail messages to a mail-enabled public folder that have been replicated from old Exchange Server 2000/2003/2007, Exchange Server 2010 environment mails are rejected with NDR.

Hi, I would like to share with you issue that I’ve solved regarding mail-enabled PF that migrated from Exchange 2000/2003/2007 to 2010, I’ve searched & contacted my MVP leader – there’s no official KB regarding this issue right
now, so I’m posting here in order to share this among others.
Note: There’s article(s) that talked about PF replication from Exch2000/2003/2007 to 2010 – this is the same issue as well.
    Symptoms
E-mail messages that been sent to mail-enabled public folder in Exchange Server 2010 environment rejected with the following NDR:
“#< #5.2.0 smtp;554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message The Active Directory user wasn’t found. ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory
    user wasn’t found.> #SMTP#”
Sometimes Exchange Server 2010 is documented as well Event ID 1020 on the Event Viewer with this information:
    “Log Name: Application
    Source: MSExchange Store Driver
    Event ID: 1020
    Level: Error
    Description:
The store driver couldn’t deliver the public folder replication message "Hierarchy ([email protected])" because the following error occurred: The Active Directory user wasn't found.”
    Cause
In an environment where Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 previously existed, and all those servers have been removed, there is a chance that an Administrative Group (First Administrative Group or another custom Administrative
Group) remains with a Servers container, but no servers inside it.
During replication, when the Exchange 2010 Store Driver sees the empty Servers container in Active Directory, it's expecting a System Attendant object inside the container and when it is not found the error occurs.
    Resolution
To work around the issue, delete the empty Servers container. This can't be done through Exchange System Manager. Use the ADSI Edit tool to remove it using the following steps:
Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows
2003 Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server or both Windows and Exchange. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes
    at your own risk.
    1.
Start the ADSI Edit MMC Snap-in. Click Start, then
Run, and type adsiedit.msc, and then click OK.
    2.
Connect & Expand the Configuration Container [YourServer.DNSDomainName.com], and then expand
    CN=Configuration,DC=DNSDomainName,DC=com.
    3.
Expand CN=Services, and then CN=Microsoft Exchange, and then expand
    CN=YourOrganizationName.
    4.
You will see an empty Administrative Group. Expand the
    CN=YourAdministrativeGroupName.
    5.
    Expand CN=Servers.
    6.
Verify there are no server objects listed under the
    CN=Servers container.
    7.
Right click on the empty CN=Servers container and choose
    Delete.
    8.
Verify the modification, and try to send again the E-mail to the mail-enabled public folder.

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong Administrative Group container which is why you are seeing your Exchange 2010 servers in there.
When you install Exchange 2003 only you will see a container named by default as "CN=First Administrative Group" container. But this could be named anything if you changed the Organization Name on the installation when you installed the first
Exchange 2003 server into the domain/forest.
You will notice that when you install Exchange 2010 part of the AD setup is to create a new configuration container and is named by default "CN=First Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)".
So it sounds like you are not looking in the right location within ADSIEdit.
You may find the following article also helpful for this issue which is the same resolution:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2012/05/17/empty-cn-servers-container-causing-issues-with-public-folders-on-small-business-server-2011.aspx
I recommend though that you ensure your Exchange 2003 servers are fully uninstalled or no longer present in your environment before you go deleting the Servers container though.. The following Microsoft article will help with this:

  • Outlook 2010 - Move to public folder brings an error "the folder is not available"

    Hi
we have exchange 2010 SP3 in our organization
    clients use both 2010 SP2 \ 2013 outlooks
when moving an item from the mailbox to a public folder directory the item moves successfully, and the directory is added to the recent directories under the "Move" button.
then, when I try to move another item to a public folder directory from the dropdown recent list I get the error message:
    "The folder is not available"
obviously it's available as I can do the same action manually. it happens on Outlook 2010, Outlook 2010 SP2 and Outlook 2013
    for all the users
    so it's not a profile or a user's issue
I saw many posts with the same error but they mostly talk about pst files and the solution is the kb
2405793‎ which is already included in SP2 + out users don't use pst. everything is in exchange
hope to get some answers before I open support case at MS
    Tamir Levy

    Hi Tamir Levy,
From your description, when you drag an item to public folder, it is successful. When you use the "Move" button to move an item to public folder, it occurred the above error. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
I recommend you check if the issue also exists via OWA. If the issue doesn't occur when you use OWA, please verify if the issue happens on Outlook online mode or in cached mode.
    Hope it helps.
    Best regards,
    Amy

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions

    Hi All,
    Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions
We have a weird problem after migrating our PF from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
Users do not have permission to create or delete in PF even thou they have owner permissions.
    Example:-
I have created a  '\test1' folder in the root which has the following permissions (this works OK):-
    Myself - Owner
    Default - Author
    Anonymous - None
I have created another folder '\admin\test2' folder which has the same permissions as above but i get the "cannot create the folder. you don't have appropriate permissions to perform this operation"
I get this problem across all of the folders that were migrated. clean folders created at the root with the correct  permission function as per expected.
    Regards
    Paul Sheldon

    Hi,
I recommend you use the Get-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity publicfolder command to check the client access permissions to a public folder.
If possible, please remove permission and re-add permission to check the result.
    Best regards,
    Belinda
