I get (at least I think so) the file after a while but don't seem to be able to update anymore. For maybie three days I've done -Syu once a day without a single download except bitmaps-stream-vera (or similiar). It also consumes a lot of time. I've read through my pacman.conf but can't find anything referring to the path above. What can cause this?

There's a problem with your local db. Remove the broken entry:
# rm -r /var/lib/pacman/local/libxfce4util-4.2.3.2-3
and reinstall libxfce4util.

  • Getting "No such file or directory" when executing existing binary

    Heya,
I'm currently trying to get hpasm to run, but after installing I have some strange issue.
The binary is there  but I can't execute it:
    [florian@moody ~]$ ls -l /usr/sbin/hpasmcli
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Oct 14 23:30 /usr/sbin/hpasmcli -> /opt/compaq/utils/hpasmcli
    [florian@moody ~]$ ls -l /opt/compaq/utils/hpasmcli
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 131896 Oct 14 23:30 /opt/compaq/utils/hpasmcli
    [florian@moody ~]$ /opt/compaq/utils/hpasmcli
bash: /opt/compaq/utils/hpasmcli: No such file or directory
Running ldd and file on it also looks strange:
    [florian@moody ~]$ ldd /opt/compaq/utils/hpasmcli
    not a dynamic executable
    [florian@moody ~]$ file /opt/compaq/utils/hpasmcli

    ) = 40
    exit_group(1) = ?

    but man 3 execve says:
    ERRORS
The exec functions shall fail if:
ENOENT A component of path or file does not name an existing file or path or file is an empty string.
So I have no idea what's going on here... Just some weird broken binary?

The system is 64 bit (x86_64) indeed.

    I used the AUR package.

I think the PKGBUILD looks good, but their original RPM is broken. When I download and extract the 64 bit RPM by hand, _one_ binary is 64 bit, the others are 32bit:

  • Error 2 - No Such File or directory when trying to unarchive tar files

    Hi there,
I'm getting the aforementioned error when I try to unarchive .tar files using the Finder. They unarchive fine using Stuffit, but a bunch of people need to get them and they don't all have stuffit. The files have the expected "zipper" icon with "tar" at the bottom and the Finder tries to open it, but fails.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I don't know how to solve your problem with the Finder but Stuffit Expander is free and is cross platform. Give everybody the Stuffit Expander installer with the .tar file.

  • Download error: Unable to expand "___" into "Downloads". (Error 2 - No such file or directory).

I keep on getting the message "Download error: Unable to expand "___" into "Downloads". (Error 2 - No such file or directory)" when I try to unarchive zip files that I have just downloaded. Can anyone walk me through how to fix this?

Possible solution if dealling with MobileMe gallery.
I ran into this problem while downloading my mobileme gallery albums and videos. I can't tell if that is where you ran into your problem or not, but if it is, this is what worked for me. Most of my albums downloaded and expanded successfully, however about 5 downloaded and would not expland giving the error you got. After several retries, I selected one of the albums, clicked the settings icon, changed the name (added "-2" to the name). This time the downloaded zip file expanded successfully. This worked for all of the albums that I had problems with.

  • Pacman Error: No such file or directory, please help

This morning I decided to make a package using the ABS and I noticed this error when executing Pacman.
error: /var/lib/pacman/local/pacman-2.9.8-1/desc: No such file or directory
Consequently, the custom package (Gaim Beta 4) kept complaining about dependancies, when I knew those packages were installed in the system. I did some searching around and it appeared that my local database may be currupted? At any rate, one of the posters suggested to forcefully reinstall the offending package, which I did. Upon doing so, it appeared that I had found a solution. However, after installing another package, the error appeared again. Repeating the process resolves the error, but only once before it occurs again.
Upon further searching, another poster suggested that I should remove the offending directory, and then reinstall the package. When I attempt to remove the directory, I get a kernel panic and my entire system freezes. Since there is so much output, I've take a photo of the error (X just freezes).
I apologise for the dodgy flash, but you can see the output. If anyone could offer any suggestions/assistance, I'd appreciate it.
    Cheers,
    Tate
EDIT: If it helps, I'm using the latest 2.6.18 stock Arch Kernel and LVM2 with ReiserFS.

    try this:
    cd /var/lib/pacman/local
    mv pacman-2.9.8-1 pacman-2.9.8-1.old
    pacman -Sf pacman
    verify /var/lib/pacman/local/pacman-2.9.8-1 folder exists
verify that following files are in folder:  depends, desc, files, install
    verify pacman -Syu works
    rm -rf /var/lib/pacman/local/pacman-2.9.8-1.old

The reason that threadjacking is frowned on (as mentioned in the terms use which you can read by clicking the link to the right on this page) is for the most part a practical one:
By starting your own thread your problem can get individual attention, focussed on your particular set of circumstances.
By joining somebody else's thread it becomes tricky to answer more than one question at the same time, and can lead to confusion for both parties.
So if you don't mind the minor inconvenience, please start your own thread (in the correct forum) so we can get to grips with your particular problem!

  • Pacman issue - error: .. : No such file or directory.

It seems I have my first issue, and it's with Pacman. I get this error everytime I sync the database or install a package, even though everything seems to go fine.
error: /var/lib/pacman/extra/flite-1.3-2/desc: No such file or directory
I don't know what flite is but it won't install it as it doesn't exist even though there is a directory called "flite-1.3-2" and it's empty. I've tried removing the directory but synching the database doesn't put it back. Also I've used 'pacman -Scc' to clear cache but still no joy.

delete the directory /var/lib/pacman/extra and run pacman -Sy to restore. I believe if you delete just the flite directory it won't restore with Sy.

You need to read and follow the Boot Camp instructions. Boot Camp Assistant is already on your computer in the utilities forderf. You run Boot Camp Assistant. Part of the process is to to then download the Windows Support software. This download is then installed from within Windows.
There is no Boot Camp download that needs to be installed or unzipped from within OSx which you seem to be doing.

    thanks for your help
    edit:
when i installed my 32bit system i changed the mirrorlist to 'i686' repository for downloading 32bit things. i forgot to change it again when i was done... so pacman downloaded 32bit stuff and apparently updatet itself.

  • Bak2db bug id2entry.db3: No such file or directory

In 5.1, I did a database backup in the following command
    db2bak
This command put the database backup into a directory of slapd-servername/bak.
    That is fine.
But when I run the following command
    bak2db /home/iplanet/servers/slapd-servername/bak/bakcupdir
It did restore the backup files. But at last it will give a waring message,
libdb: warning: /home/iplanet/servers/slapd-servername/db/userRoot/id2entry.db3: No such file or directory
I checked directory server and it does have this file in db directory.
    Is there something bug here?
    Thanks,

  • Awesome: No such file or directory

    Hey guys..
I'm pretty new with Arch but have been using Linux for a couple of years now.
I wanted to try Awesome, so I followed this guide to install awesome3 with pacman.
The installation seemed fine, I didn't get any errors. But when I try to execute awesome I get this error:
    elbarto@tarantino:~$ awesome
bash: /usr/bin/awesome: No such file or directory
    elbarto@tarantino:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/awesome
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 254660 2009-02-20 14:16 /usr/bin/awesome
    elbarto@tarantino:~$
Just to be sure I installed SLIM and set my ~/.xinitrc to start do "exec awesome", but it didn't work. When I login it says that there was some problem and it couldn't start the session.
Any ideas? The file exists and the permissions seems fine, so I should be missing something somewhere else.
    Thanks!

elbarto wrote:Ohh I see hehe. That's my problem then.
I thought pacman would have warned me if the downloaded package was built for a different architecture.
Unfortunately it won't. This kind of thing can cause huge headaches if it's a system level library too.

  • [solved] ArchCK boot: /bin/sh: No such file or directory

I am getting some weird errors on my arch install.
I chrooted to my install, mounted tmp, and "pacman -Syu"'d.  I'm using the archck kernel in extra.  Now when I try to boot, I get the following errors:
mount: Mounting none on /proc failed: Device or resource busy.
    mknod: /dev/null: File exists.
mount: Mounting /dev/root on /new_root failed: No such device or address
pivot_root: pivot_root: No such file or directory
chroot: cannot execute /bin/sh: No such file or directory
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
I really don't know what to do with this.  Any help?  I think it has to do with how I am using mkinitramfs in a chrooted filesystem.  I'm not sure thogh.  And yes, all my paths in configs are right.

Ok, it seems that your initramfs image doesn't contain all the necesary modules to access your boot partition. To boot, use
    mkinitramfs full
to create an image with all the modules, it should be named initramfs26-full.img or something similar. Configure your bootloader accordingly. It shoudl boot.
After that you should tweak your mkinitramfs.conf file so it includes only the modules you need, so you don't need ot use the "full" image.
