No-win scenario
Okay, so last Tuesday, the website deviantart.com stopped working for me. The javascript refused to load. It's not the add-ons, I have it set to accept javascript. The site's own help desk was the worst kind of ineffectual.
So I created a new User Profile, which cleared up that problem for a while. BUT. On the new user profile, .jpg images are coming up heavily pixelated. And I do mean heavily, to the point where I can barely make out what's in the images.
And now it turns out turns out the new user profile only fixes the javascript problem temporarily. .JPGs still won't load, and now neither will javascript until I create a new NEW user profile. Which, I'm guessing, will only load japascript for a short while. I've tried everything at this point, up to and including uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it.
Please help!

IC Booking - Same Account Issue
Hi,
My company is using the same account for both Inter company AR & AP. I tried configuring the BR for IC Booking but it did not work. I am using the seller wins scenario and posting the Debit to a generic Difference account and Credit to this same account. This account is market as an asset in the Account dimension.
Can you please help?
Regards,
NickySounds like a firewall issue to me, too. Maybe they can make an exception for you to download this stuff?
Failing that, perhaps your IT department has a secret-squirrel workstation that will allow downloads from anywhere. They always have one...whether they'll give you access/do it for you is another question.
Are any other kinds of downloads allowed?
One last thing -- are you using Firefox and NoScript? If the right Javascript domains aren't allowed, the download won't work, regardless of firewall security. This trips me up all the time.

Where is Sound Remover in my Audition CS6
Having recently downloaded Audition from Creative Cloud, I was looking on Adobe TV at some of the new features including "Sound Remover." When I wanted to try out the effect, neither "Learn Sound Model" or "Sound Remover" showed in the Noise Reduction effects. The only options showing are the familiar ones from CS5.5. Can anyone help?

Having called Adobe Support on Friday I was told that there is no difference between CS6 and CC, so hence my confusion. While talking to the member of the support team I did get the feeling that he wasn't very sure about things and I wasn't totally convinced that he knew what he was talking about.
Like Bob says, pretty obviously he didn't, and probably still doesn't. Audition CS6 is a finished, finalised product and it's available as a part of the CC package deal. The next version of Audition - with a name that looks initially confusing - is available on June 17th.
I think I know why it's like that (although Durin will have to confirm or refute this). The new Audition isn't intended to be a 'version' release as such, which can't, because of the ridiculous Sarbanes/Oxley legislation, be enhanced. Instead, Adobe haven't 'sold' it as a version but licenced it as a piece of software that becomes progressively enhanced - updates are allowable under this model. Because it isn't sold, it's not affected in the same way under the legislation.
So what I suspect we have here is a fancy piece of Adobe footwork (which they know full well is hacking off a lot of people) to get around a piece of legislation that was introduced as a knee-jerk reaction to Enron, etc. As a result of the speed of introduction, the implications of it weren't really thought through, hence the easy loophole in it. What Adobe (and Micro$oft, only more subtly) have realised as a consequence is that they have what they think is a win-win scenario; circumventing the legislation, and keeping a continuous revenue stream.
So it's called Audition CC (Continuous Confusion?). If you want to know where you're up to with it version-wise, I suspect that the build numbers will be all there is to go on. But hey, the shareholders will be happy, so that's alright then...
I should add though that this is only a comment on the commercial situation. What you are going to get with the new version is a damn good product - which in some ways is likely to make the commercial aspects of this even more frustrating for a lot of people. Ho Hum. -
Hideous scenario - wine over keyboard - need to extract HD
After beating myself up about this, i thought i'd ask if there's any way I can rescue my HD. I took the beast apart after the accident to discover the extent of the damage, and there's a number of areas where the wine has 'boiled' on to certain components. Not pretty.
I can power on, i get the 'bong' but the screen doesn't respond.
Question; is there any way to extract the Seagate HD and recover the data from it externally?? I know it's a long shot...
Any advice gratefully received!!!Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Sorry to hear about the accident. You can pull the hard drive out, and put it in an external drive case to attach it to another computer. An example of a case that would work is: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MOTGFWU2/ This case has firewire and USB connections, and can support an external power adapter if you need one (if you want to attach it to a Powerbook, use firewire, as USB may not provide enough power for it). -

O.F. -
ok, i've seen this question asked a number of times. i know the general procedure:
- first download some installer things to a window box so i can make a bootable DVD / flash drive
- go the mac and use the DVD / usb stick to install the virtual machine
great.. BUT :
1) unfortunately, i'm still really confused at the most basic part which is where (link) do i actually get the initial download thing to create the 8.1 *PRO* from microsoft and where (link) / how do i pay for the subscription key to install the thing????
i keep seeing a link for windows 8 or windows 8.1 where windows PRO is NEVER mentioned. i ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE a) PRO 64 bit and NOT vanilla windows and b) it MUST BE A FULL INSTALL (i'm not upgrading from windows 7, 8 or 8.1 NON pro.. i'm going
to be installing this thing on a brand new system.
i'm an IT guy for two decades and i can tell you trying to find, download, install a clean version of windows 8.1 PRO is a royal pita and nothing about windows 8.1 PRO is intuitive on the MS site. it's almost as if they do NOT want you to install the
thing. i'm not trying to bust jewels here, i'm just being honest and providing feedback that you folks need to make this much more clear and intuitive. people really shouldN'T have to post on forums to find out how to purchase, download and enter
in a subscription key for a base version of an OS. it's crazy.
2) once i can figure out how to download, install and register the darn thing ;)... i'm curious how the licensing works.
2a) first if my windows 8.1 pro experiment on mac parallels sucks, i want to be able to remove the authorization so i can reinstall 8.1 pro on another system. can i / how do i do this in my scenario?
2b) i actually already bought windows pro 8.1 about a year ago (to upgrade a laptop that came with 8 that i needed to upgrade to vanilla 8.1 then to finally to pro) so that i could windows phone 8.1 development with simulator on the laptop. unfortunately
the laptop maxed out at 4G and the performance of the emulator was ridiculously slow that it's unusable. i'd love to somehow be able to put the laptop back to windows *vanilla* 8.1 and reclaim my 8.1 pro that i *already* purchased by removing the authorization
from that laptop allowing me to reinstall the full 8.1 pro with the same key on the mac with parallels. then i can sell the laptop that has sat there collecting dust for a year and regain my windows 8.1 pro investment vs having to buy another copy for
the mac.
i have no idea how to do this though i think it should be possible. can anybody tell me where / how i do this?
note the win pro 8.1 install never went well so i actually had some guy from MS login to my laptop remotely and do the install.. in doing so i believe he wiped away the original windows vanilla 8.1 recovery partition asus put on the drive meaning i'm not
sure i can get the laptop back to 8.1 or 8 vanilla so i can resell it functionally to another person while removing my 8.1 *pro* license from it. any suggestions here highly welcome.
2c) once i get the windows 8.1 pro installed in a vm under parallels, i'll have one licensed copy running. my guess is that is what i'm limited to. but when you start working with VMs the whole purpose is to be able to create multiple test
enviornments and dispose of them when you don't need them etc. since the window will be tied to the single mac hw id, will i be able to install multiple *win* vms (duping an exising win vm for instance) from the one license or must i purchase
multiple win licenses for each win vm on the SAME system? if you need a new license for each vm, wouldn't i have to do a FULL WINDOWS INSTALL every time i wanted to create another windows VM.. THAT IS CRAZILY INEFFICIENT...
there has to be some kind of option to dup a windows licensed vm on the SAME system yes? what are the rules / procedures for making this work.
i'm using parallels on mac as an example but the same question would apply to using hyperV (which i know nothing about at this point) as the virtual host platform as well.
i'm open to well thought out links that actually answer these questions succinctly in addition to comments here
thanks in advanceHello bigbobber,
If you have issue in using Windows 8.1 Pro in the software parallels in MAC?
About this issue, it is recommended to contact the related parallels support.
About the license issue, please read the following article about Buyer’s Guide and Microsoft software license agreement windows 8.1.

Office 2013 Startup Problem with NEW Win 8.1 Install and no prior Office Version
Although I have seen similar threads on the forum, they all seem to address a different scenario.
My environment is as follows:
Intel MotherBoard with I07 max processor
64GB RAM
512 GB SSD Boot drive on which Windows 8.1 was installed as first and only O/S. It was validated
4TB HDD on which User directory and programs installed (those which permit drive selection in startup)
4TB data drive.
Machine was built from scratch with Win 8.1 Pro plus Media Center
Office 2013 Pro Plus was installed and validated
Machine is running in an MS AD Domain whose PDC is running on Win Server 2008 R2
User is a member of Enterpise and Domain Admin group
HERE'S THE PROBLEM,
Any Office 2013 Pro Plus application (Not Just Oulook) goes through the configuration step EACH time it is launched.Hi,
Try repairing Office in Control Panel -> Programs and Features, check the result.
You can also try this:
Go to the install folder, such as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15, find the .exe file for the application, let's take Word for example, WINWORD.EXE, right click on it, send the shortcut to Desktop, right click the
shortcut -> Properties -> Shortcut -> Advanced -> Check "Run as administrator" -> OK -> OK.
Start Word from the shortcut, you may need to go through the process again, reboot the computer, check if it will show up again when you start Word. If the problem doesn't exist any more, do the same to other Office applications.
Regards,
Melon Chen
TechNet Community Support -
Hi guys, I have a user running Office 2013 on Win 7 32 bit, randomly when opening excel files, excel will say not responding but it will eventually open the files, this can take 5 mins, the only thing I can see in the event log is the software protection
service starting/stopping etc all around the same time, users are very unhappy as its stopping them from working, any ideas.
ThanksHi,
Regarding Excel hangs, not responding issue, this could be caused by several things. Please check the below KB for the different scenarios:

How can I create a Pooled VDI infraestructure using Win server 2012 as VM image?
Hello
I have followed the "usual" way to build a pooled VDI desktop using Win7 or Win8 with success, but it fails when I use an image of Win Server 2012 as VM instead.
Am I overlooking something? Should I need to prepare the image in a different way? (Sysprep differently?)
ThanksDear Ryan
I think the point is other than committing a breach of licensing. I have a legitimate need to use a pooled server system, which incidentally is not going to be end user.
The "economy" of the proposed structure can make a more efficient use of the equipment.
This is an excerpt of the MS VDI Q&A:
Do I need to pay for Windows VDA if I use Windows Server as a client operating system in my virtual machine?
OR
I’ve heard that I can avoid paying for Windows VDA by using Windows Server as my VDI desktop OS. Is this true?
Running a Windows Server®
OS as the desktop in the datacenter does not require Windows VDA, but there are many reasons why a server OS should not be used as a desktop, especially in the datacenter:
The user experience with servers as the desktop is very different from using a Windows client.
Many applications for end users were written for a client OS and not a server OS. Each of your applications would need to be retested to ensure compatibility with a server OS. Additionally, most vendors
do not offer support for client applications running on servers.
Clients and servers are on different patch cycles, adding to management complexity.
Most of the VDI ecosystem will support the Windows client in the datacenter, not server OS’s.
However, if you do decide to run a server OS as the desktop, please note that you will need to pay a Remote Desktop Services Client Access License (RDS-CAL) to correctly license that scenario. -
Error adding Win Server Technical Preview host to Virtual Machine Manager Technical Preview
I've built Win Server Preview (latest build 9888).Also build System Center Technical Preview, on another server (VM), and now trying to add Server Tech Preview hosts to VMM.
However VMMService is crashing, with error below.
Note I have tried multiple scenarios, including upgrade hosts from 2012 R2, install fresh as server Core, install fresh full-GUI hosts, enable Hyper-V before adding to VMM, allow VMM to enable Hyper-V...
also RunAs user is administrator of hosts and VMM, computer accounts have been added to all administrator groups, WinRM quickconfig has been run, firewall is off..
..however VMM vNext refuses to add Server vNext hosts. (however - I can add Server 2012 R2 hosts to VMM vNext with no problem)
NOTE - also, when Server Manager starts, I get "Error occurred while loading the plug-in for 481. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation". After this the File and Storage Services node in Server Manager is missing. Not sure if
this is related to the error below; but I get this issue in all servers built with latest .9888 build.
Error from VMM server when trying to add Tech Preview host is as follows -

I did not accuse you of anything. The build in question has been pirated

Why does Auto Tone button in Quick Develop panel fail with Win 7 platform?
I have been a user of Photoshop since the inception of Photoshop CS. I recently purchased a subscription to Photoshop CC, which comes with Photoshop Lightroom 5.
I have never used Lightroom, so I purchased the Kindle version of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, CLASSROOM IN A BOOK. I have this eBook installed on the same Windows 7 PC that I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 installed on.
I ran into a problem in a section of the first chapter titled “Using Quick Develop in the Library module.” This section, in part, instructs how to quickly improve the color tonal balance of an image.
After selecting the required image from the sample images for this lesson, I found the histogram in my Lightroom 5 Loupe view to be the same as the lesson’s photo illustration for this original image. As described in the lesson, the photo did not have a balanced tonal distribution.
I followed the lesson’s instruction: “4. In the Quick Develop panel, watch the tone distribution curve shift in the Histogram panel as you click the Auto Tone button. Although the automatic adjustment hasn’t done a perfect job with this particular photo, there is substantial improvement; a lot of image detail has been recovered from the overexposed hair and face and there is more depth in the mid-tones. The contrast, however, remains unimpressive, and the darker areas still look flat.” (See Adobe Creative Team [2013-08-06]. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5: Classroom in a Book [Kindle Locations 1024-1026]. Pearson Education. Kindle Edition.)
This is where I ran into a problem. After clicking on the Auto Tone Button in the Quick Develop panel, my results were completely different than what was described and shown in the Histogram displayed in the lesson. Instead, in my Lightroom 5, clicking the Lightroom Auto Tone button has increased the exposure, making it even more over exposed than the original image! Therefore continuing to follow the instructions in the lesson was a waste of time, since my Auto Tone results were so totally out of sync from that of the lesson.
This disturbed me, so I decided to open the same sample image in Photoshop CC, Camera RAW 8.2. Camera RAW provides an Auto Button which improves exposure and color tonal balance to an image. The results were exactly the same as the Auto Tone functionality in the Quick Develop panel in Lightroom 5. I couldn't understand why the lesson instructor's results were so positive and mine were so disastrous. Then it hit me! I discovered that the lesson writer of this Adobe Classroom in a Book was using Lightroom 5 on a MAC computer. I could tell by looking at his lesson images. Just to be sure, I tried this lesson scenario on a different PC with Win 7, Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. I got the same failed results.
I’ve heard from other professionals that Photoshop and Lightroom software only work properly on Apple computers. I’ve always thought that this was a myth, but have infrequently experienced a good result using the Auto button feature in Photoshop Camera Raw on a Windows PC platform, so I don’t use it often.
What really has me frustrated is the fact that Adobe no longer has a direct way to report software defects to their tech support or process improvement teams. Their online bug reporting process is woefully inadequate. I've tried twice to create a support ticket on the Adobe site, only to have my case withdrawn mysteriously. I've tried their online chat, telephone support, and sent emails with image attachments to the address provided by their agent on the telephone. My email goes unanswered and my open cases somehow get closed.
Any ideas on how to get this issue addressed by Adobe are sincerely appreciated.Adobe tries to improve the Auto Tone function from time-to-time. I used to completely underexpose an image that had a few bright spots such as car headlights turned on in an otherwise properly exposed image. This is probably what you’re seeing, LR now guessing brighter more of the time, and it might change, again, in a future version so don’t be too concerned.
As others have said, Auto Tone works on some images and not on others, and Adobe can only try to make it work better on more images by changing how it works on all images. For the lesson example, the author purposely used an image that was improved with auto-tone that LR did at the time of authorship. You will never have a picture exactly like the lesson’s example, either, so it’s not that important if the lesson is 100% accurate for future versions of LR, just that the general idea that some pictures are improved in certain ways by Auto Tone will still be applicable, and you’ll need to learn, by trial and error, what to do when Auto Tone doesn’t work well or the image needs further adjustment. That is the important lesson, what to do with your own pictures.
You can reset a particular slider after a bad Auto Tone by double clicking on that slider. The Exposure slider is the one I reset most often.
You can also LR set the Auto Tone value for just one slider by holding down the Shift key and double clicking on that one slider. I do this a lot for the Blacks slider to set the black point, without messing up everything else. -
Win 8.1 - Is it Compatible?
At the invitation of Microsoft I attempted an upgrade from Win 8.0 to 8.1 on a new (2 month old) envy laptop. The upgrade demolished my system. Microsoft tech support was unable to offer help other than to suggest a roll back of the upgrade. Unfortunately, the system was so scrambled that the only option was a rebuild from the hp supplied recovery disks. The rebuild hit a snag which is being resolved with HP support (invalid Win 8 product key); however, a more pressing concern is what to do when 8.1 re-arrives. I really don't want to go through the disaster recovery scenario again. There must an incompatibility between the laptop and 8.1and I would like to find out how to detect it before letting the upgrade apply. Initially that incompatibility became evident in the audio (no sound); however, as I poked around the damaged system before applying the hp recover disks, I found that many drivers were dropped. Again, how can I detect the incompatibility before letting the upgrade apply?

Hi,
Only Micrsoft knows which/what areas have changed from 8.0 to 8.1. Very interesting: I ran 8.1 Preview NO PROBLEM on 1 of my machines but having problem with REAL Windows 8.1.
Regards.

Windows 8.1 Lock Screen drops network connectivity when screen locked using Win+L
Hi!
I was sent here from Microsoft Community forum. The question is:
Since Windows NT 4.0 I'm using Lock Screen to prevent people from accessing my computer when I'm leaving my room. First I was using CTRL+ALT+DEL / Lock Screen, then switched to Win+L keyboard shortcut when it was first introduced.
Everything was fine until I switched to Windows 8.1 computer (Sony Vaio Duo 13 with Broadcom wireless network controller). This machine is 8.1, not 8.0 upgraded to 8.1.
My problem is that when I hit Win+L combo the Lock Screen (with clock etc.) is displayed. Then, despite I have configured not to turn off display, the screen goes blank (after 30 seconds since lock) and network connectivity is cut off from desktop
apps (I suspect the system goes into Active Standby mode, because Modern UI apps like Tune-In radio keep working fine).
100% repeatable scenarios:
## Scenario 1 ##
1) Log in
2) Open desktop app that uses network connectivity. Outlook 2013 from Office365 subscription
3) Check that it has connected
4) Lock screen (Win+L)
5) Wait for 30 seconds (first incorrectly posted as few minutes) as screen goes black
6) Unlock screen (using password)
7) In right corner of Outlook app you will see "Unable to connect with Exchange server" and few seconds later it will reconnect sucessfuly
## Scenario 2 - the more annoying ##
1) Log in to Win 8.1 computer
2) Connect to it using SMB (in my case I wanted to transfer 30 GB of files from local hard drive C: to server) \\COMPUTER-NAME\c$ from Windows Server 2012 R2
3) Start copying files from computer to server
4) Lock the screen on computer
5) As soon as screen goes black server displays message "Lost connection to the resource. Try again?"
6) Unlock screen on the computer
7) Click "Try again" and it will continue copying files
My power settings are set to go into stand by after 5 hours and if I not lock the screen it doesn't go to sleep before 5 hours.
When I lock the screen using Win+L it goes into (probably Active) Standby mode.
Is there any way to prevent it from going to Active Standby when locking screen? I need the screen lock for security reasons but I don't want it to drop my network connectivity on remote desktops, file transfers and other desktop activities before 5 hour
timeout.
This issue is not related to more or less known wireless network connectivity problem that happens to many Intel Haswell computers. Mine doesn't exhibit those problems. I can easly push 100 - 200 GB of wireless data without network drops.

Best regards,
SergiuszSame issue here using Surface 3 Pro with either internal WLAN or MS USB LAN Adapter. I'm frequently used to keep open connections over SSH to some servers. On switching to lock screen explicitly by pressing Win+L or implicitly due to idle timeout all
connections to servers are lost. In addition, I don't get any notifications on incoming Skype messages (using Skype for desktop) when lock screen is active.
Neither NIC is showing "Power Management Tab" according to step 5 of instructions above.
Additionally observing USB LAN NIC seems to be kept active after activating lock screen, but traffic stops (according to its flashing light) when lock screen is switching off display. Blanking display doesn't seem to be adjustable in System Settings (Energy
Options accessed through Win+X).
Find attached log file of powercfg -energy -duration 300 ...
Log file is in German. It basically claims unset timeouts for deactivating display while running attached to power supply though lock screen is turning off displays within 1-2 minutes.

Downgrading from Win 7 64 bit to 32 bit
I know it's odd, but I have programs that won't run in 64 bit windows 7 but work fine in 32 bit win 7.
I have a G570 (4334) (64 bit win 7) and would love to download or get Lenovo disks for the 32 bit windows 7.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS007940
Looks to be the spot to create such a disk? As I would like to do a clean install of the 32 bit version with the Lenovo drivers and such. I don't know if that will create a disk or not. Nor do I see anyway to order such a disk.
OR could I use my old OEM disk 32 bit win 7 from my old computer and the key from the G570?
I have three computers and three Win7 keys, one for Win 7 64 bit professional, one for Win 7 Home Premium, and the one on the laptop for home premium 64 bit. I know the Home Premium doesn't care if it's 32 or 64 bit.
My laptop is brand new. I've only tried to install my most critical program and it chokes on 64 bit win 7 (it doesn't like XP Mode on my Win 7 64 bit Professional either, but runs beautifully on my 32 bit win 7 machine -- but that one is going to be leaving the state when I give it to my daughter). Anyway, formatting the drive is of no concern to me as nothing critical is on it. Suggestions? Links?
THANKS!Hello,
Can I ask what the program is that will not run in the 64-bit version of Windows 7?
It is pretty rare to see a program that runs in the 32-bit version and not the 64-bit. Usually it's tied to something like the program installing 32-bit device driver, or having some 16-bit (e.g., Windows 3.1-era) code in it, neither of which are supported in the 64-bit version of Windows 7.
If it's not something like the above two scenarios, than perhaps by finding out more about the program we can find a way to make it work without having to go through the inconvenience of reloading the operating system.

Overlapped I/O error installing SQL Server Express 2014 on Win 8.1
Hi,
I'm attempting to install SQL2014 on a SurfacePro3 running Win 8.1. Despite much searching I've not found anything that gets me past this problem.
I've tried:
Uninstalling a update KB2918614 which was highlighted as a potential issue
The login is the only account on the machine (not networked)
Used "Run as Administrator"
Even tried setting up a new User Account not linked to MS
Run from the SETUP.EXE in the extracted files (with "Run As Admin")
The Summary log is below:
