OS version: windows Vista business Sp1
tcpip.sys version: 6.0.6001.22167
wifi: Intel 4965AGN. Standard Gigabyte intel ethernet 82566MM
system drivers and BIOS are the most updated driver.
At my 2 homes using ADSL routers, there are absolutely no problems with network connection by wifi or ethernet. However, blue screen occurs when I bring this laptop to university and connect to the network via either ethernet or wifi. This happened to me a few months back. It crashed EVERY TIME when a network connection was attempted. It did not matter whether I updated my drivers on both wifi or ethernet cards. Whenever I bring it to either of my2 homes, no blue screen ever occurs.
It also happens when I attempt to connect to free wifi network in the airport. It crashes again with EXACTLY the same problem. I have to admit that I do not even where to start looking for the problems. System restore did not solve this either. I ran the WinBug analysis. It pointed towards tcpip.sys. My sys ver is at the top of this message.
Would appreciate if someone can point this to the right direction. I am seriously thinking of downgrading this to XP, since it had NEVER happened to XP.

Per my original post:
"When my ATV is connected via ethernet, and I attempt to play some internet radio stations, some will work just fine while others won't. For example, when connected to my home network via ethernet, some internet radio channels (I can't give a percentage because I haven't tested all of them) will play just fine, however, others won't. The ATV will attempt to connect, but the spinning progress bar just goes and goes and goes until it eventually errors out (no error number is provided, it just says that there was trouble loading the content). The funny thing (or not so funny thing actually) is that if I unplug the ethernet cable, and connect my ATV to the network via wifi, those same stations that didn't play when ATV was connected via ethernet, WILL play when ATV is connected via wifi. So, in short, some stations play just fine when ATV is connected to home network, through wireless router, via either wifi OR ethernet, yet some will only play when ATV is connected to home network via wifi. I have found this to be the same when it comes to downloading or refreshing the photos in my photo stream. If I throw new photos in my photo stream on iCloud, and the ATV is connected via ethernet, they won't refresh to the ATV, however, if I unplug the ATV and connect via wifi they begin to refresh."
There are dozens of original threads out there that report of similar - if not exact, issues. I have contacted "Roy" per his request and not heard back from him (if such a person exists). I have "restored" my ATV and rebooted all equipment to no avail. Until Apple gets with it, acknowledges their problem, and fixes it, I am resigned to just having to deal with switching back and forth from wifi to ethernet, and so on.

WiFi-Automatic network switching with OS 5.0.0.461?

There was a previous version of OS 5 (I don't remember which one) that I was using with the 8900 that seems to connect to known WiFi networks automatically for me. For instance, once I've connected to my home and work WiFi networks (at least once), it would know to automatically connect with these networks when I am in the vicinity. I did not have to change anything on the BB or switch networks manually.
However, since using 5.0.0.461, the 8900 no longer connects to known WiFi signals automatically. Someone has said this has something to do with the option setting of "single profile scanning" in the WiFi setup options screen. But I've tried to turn this option on AND off and it seems to make no difference. In fact, if this option is off, the 8900 does not connect to ANY WiFi networks. If this option is on, it connects with only the network I have to manually choose.
Can anyone tell me what their experience is with automatically connecting with known WiFi networks? Is there a setting or option I am not aware of. It's a pain to always have to manually switch networks when I go back and forth from home to work and back.

Seems like the problem I reported in the opening post is related to 5.0.0.461. I saw yesterday that there was a "leaked OS" for the 8900. This is OS 5.0.0.509. I download and installed this new OS and my problem disappeared. Now the 8900 will connect to known WiFi networks automatically when I have the "enable single profile scanning" option unchecked.

[SOLVED] No (wired) net after boot, yet available with "ip link.."

I'm on a fully updated (inc. latest systemd), networkmanager based, Arch-X86-64/KDE system.
The system is connected to the router via eth1 (r8169).
After boot, I have no net connection (see below), yet, I do get connected, once I issue the "ip link set eth1 up" command.
Please advise.

Seems like you are running both NetworkManager and [email protected]. Pick one so they don't have to compete with each other.

"Virus" in Airport network options with chain-link symbol (not your usual four bars)

My university has been having internet problems. Is this weird symbol related, you think? Or is it something I need to check out with my computer?
Any thoughts? I don't dare click on it.

Nothing nefarious. It is a HotSpot such as provided by an iPhone or iPad that is visible to your computer.

IPhone 4S uses 3G data even with WiFi network available

I've been trying to figure out why the iPhone still uses 3G data even when it has a WiFi network available. It's usually just a few MBs per day, and as such - I attributed to niotifications, location services, etc.
But today, I got a really nasty surprise...
As I woke up, my iPhone showed the WiFi indicator as usual, but internet was slow... as if it was using cellular data. Something i quickly confirmed by trying to access stuff on my internal LAN and not being able to.
Worst of all, my iPhone went through over 600MB of cellular data overnight - that's my entire data limit for a month! - meaning I'll have to pay for neary 400MB of excess data usage paid at overly inflated prices (I'll be paying nearly 3x my monthly bill just for the excess data!!!)
As if all the bugs I've been facing weren't enough: Invalid SIM, showing full strength 3G signal when it's actually "offline"... Now I have to face stupidly wasted mobile data when I'm at home within WiFi range?
I've been an iPhone use for years, and have upgraded every year to the new models... but this iPhone 4S has been my worst experience ever with a mobile device, and ruined all the trust I had in Apple devices...
I sincerely don't know what to do next... if I'll still wait for a 5.1 update that may/may not fix all the issues I (and thousands others, as seen by the discussions here) have been having... or if I cut my losses and try my luck elsewhere...

The WiFi data is recorded separately - and the mobile data use was verified using the operator "reporting" service (and later sending me the warning SMS of the data use).
The iPhone was in the home screen, locked, and "sleeping" when the data was used, so the only option would be the iCloud backup - which, in any case, should never ever use the 3G data (and never has until today).
If the WiFi was not working, then it should either: not have internet access; not show the WiFi connected signal in the status bar. As it was, it was showing WiFi access, but using the mobile data just the same.
Which, from what I understand, could have "tricked" iCloud into doing its regular backup thinking it was over WiFi... but in reality doing it over cellular data.

You are not addressing Apple here. If you have a problem, describe it and someone might be able to help. Just to be sure, the wi-fi on the phone will go off after the phone goes into sleep mode unless it is actively being used. This is a battery saving measure. If you are actively using the internet, and the phone is still awake, then the wi-fi should remain connected.
What troubleshooting steps have you tried.

this was happening with my phone the other night. i just went into the phone to settings > general > reset > reset all settings
You can also try rebooting the router

Update: my PC USB hub was connected to a USB 3 port, I connected the 30 pin cable directly to my PC, And the restore worked just fine. Restored phone from iCloud backup and seems to be working fine.

How do I set up different network locations with different wifi?

I am having an issue setting up different network locations with different wifi profiles on each. I want to do this to enable fast switching of wireless networks. In my house I have two wireless networks, my own personal one and one that is created by using a wifi modem supplied by my company. If I use the company wifi network then I can get into all my work applications without having to enable VPN access separately. It is also faster. However, they also block many applications including sending email from my personal email account, dropbox, etc. So throughout the day I need to switch wireless networks back and forth.
I was looking for a faster way to switch and thought I would try network locations. Was able to set up a new network location without issue. However it seems that whatever wireless preferences, changes, or wifi network order I put into my "Work" location it carries over to my other location which is the standard "Automatic".
What I would like it to have my "Work" location only to be able to connect to my work wifi and my other network (Automatic) to just connect to my home wifi only. That way I can enable faster wifi switching and can even use my launcher program (Alfred) to provide shortcuts.
Anyway to do this?

However, I tried to build the Automator application as discussed and cannot get it to work. Very much a novice at Applescript and Shell Script but have created customized Automator services before. All I get now is "Shell Script command encountered an error". No more detail. I copied and pasted the script as shown in the email thread. Wifi is not available where I come from. I have broadband connection where data transmission is through cell sites then to USB modem connected to a computer. The modem draws power from the computer. Will this setup work with the ipad?

iPad requires Wifi (or 3G /LTE) to connect to the Internet. You cannot connect a USB modem to the iPad.
You can create your own WiFi hotspot through your computer for your iPad to connect to, if your computer supports this functionality. All Wifi Macs and many Wifi PCs do. Check your computer manual for how to do it.

Either will work. 4G only works in Canada and the USofA. In foreigh countries the New iPad will fall back to 3G if you have a local sim and iPad data plan from a local provider.
