Non-rectangular click area?

I have a map that contains several areas, which have
irregular shapes, i.e., they all have non-rectangular contours.
Each such area is a movie clip, made from a transparent gif. Any
part outside of this area (non-rectangular contour) is transparent.
I have onRollOver and onRollOut event handler to process when
a mouse moves in or out of an area. But it seems that a "in" only
happens when mouse actually moves into the rectangle that enclose
an area and "out" only happens when mouse actually moves out that
rectangle.
So, how to make these events handle this non-rectangular
shapes? Thanks!

The MovieCip.hitArea property is a property of the MovieClip

Button class does not feature such a property, so if you want to
use it, you'll have to use
movie clip symbols.

Thanks! Words convey knowledge.
After reading your reply twice, in fact, from thinking too
hard to make the whole thing work based on those GIF-derived movie
clips, I just realized that I should've created the clips directly
from vector images.
Now, for each area's gif bitmap, I converted it into vector
first and then converted it into a movie clip symbol. In this way,
no special codes need to be used and it is more straightforward.
So, I guess one big wrong assumption I've made until now is
that converting a GIF directly into a movie clip should
automatically include a step to make the bitmap vector image.
Thanks all for your help!

• Cropping non-rectangular image

Hello,
I need to crop  a slightly non-rectangular, four-sided image (a photo of a picture in a frame) and end up with a rectangular image. I've tried cropping and lassoing but nothing seems to do the job. Most grateful if anyone can tell me how I might do this on PSE.
Thanks

Best
Michael
ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) is the module of PSE which is used to first convert raw images so that they can be read and edited in the Editor.
This module can also be used to open jpeg files:
In the Editor, menu /File/Open As
you select a jpeg picture and in the line'Open As', just under where you enter the file name, you must choose the 3rd option :
Camera raw...
This opens a new dialog window in which you can do the main edits to your image by adjusting a few sliders.
Of course, raw file will benefit more from being processed in ACR, but it's also interesting for jpegs.
How can editing through ACR be a 'non destructive' process ?
It's because the principle of ACR (also used in Photoshop CS) is to store all editing commands and settings separately from the original picture data which are never changed. In the case of jpegs, the settings are stored in the metadata section of the jpeg file (where the camera name and settings are kept) without changing anything in the way pixels are represented. The 'recipe' is stored, but the pixels stay unchanged. When you straighten and crop, if you click 'Done', the settings are saved. If you want to do some editing or print your file, you click 'Open' and the result of your edits in ACR is opened in the Editor.  If you do changes in the editor, of course, those edits will be 'destructive' (as usual in the Editor)  so that you'll have to save the file with another name to keep the original. If you do no edits in the Editor,  but only print or convert the file to another format, the original picture data is not changed.
In that last case, you don't need to re-open the picture with 'Open As', the Editor will know the picture has to be opened in the ACR module with the usual 'Open'. But it you want to re-open the same picture in another application like Picasa, the Adobe editing data will be ignored and you'll see the original version.

• Non-Rectangular Buttons with images

is it possible to create a non-square "button" in flash cs4
programmatically using as3?
Using a xml document, i'm trying to be able to retrieve a
.png file with transparency, and have said transparent area's be
not clickable.
Long story short, I'm creating a map with a bunch of
clickable areas. These areas are non-rectangular and I need them to
not obscure other area's which would be in their rectangle. I need
this to be done programmatically since the area's are going to be
dynamic as is the data attached to them.
fyi: I have a fairly good grasp of OOP, so don't be afraid to
post up complex instructions.

Now we're cooking with gas! Thank you so much for your
assistance!
The only issue left;
is it possible for the Events to penetrate through, so that
if two elements slightly overlap, the transparent part of obj1 will
allow a onclick (and subsequently the onmouseover) event on el2,
preferably dynamically so that I don't have to add event handlers
between the two.
Is there a simple way or do i need to calculate the overlap
using the x/y coords and width/height of each element, then
manually dispatch?
here's where I'm at thus far (with this discussion)
Firstly, the class for the movie clip,
then our frame.

• Uncontrollable mouse button events (single clicks are doubled?)

Hello, folks--
I am having a mouse problem that is driving me up the wall. The mouse in question is an optical IM/PS2 mouse--it is a cheap no-name product, but has worked fine for 2 or 3 years. The trouble started maybe six weeks ago when I did a full upgrade. The most important change that I know of in that upgrade was the introduction of HAL, so I strongly suspect that the cause of the problem is related to my HAL configuration, or perhaps a conflict between that and my X config. But anyway, the symptoms I've been seeing include (but are not limited to):
      * Firefox: a single click selects an entire paragraph
      * Thunderbird: a single click in the message list opens the message in a new window
      * Xfwm: a single click on the "windowshade" button collapses the window, then expands it again
(or vice versa, depending on the initial state)
      * Xfwm: when dragging a window quickly, the mouse "loses its grip"--i.e. the window stops moving even
though I am still moving the mouse
None of these things happens every time, but they all happen often. The problems seem most severe in Firefox, but given that similar things happen elsewhere, I would imagine that's due to Firefox's complex event handling exposing a pervasive problem, rather than any kind of application-specific issue.
With the possible exception of the window-dragging issue, all the above symptoms are consistent with a problem I have seen reported elsewhere, that single clicks are being read as double clicks. However, the only clearly applicable solution I've seen for that issue is to remove all mouse configuration from Xorg.conf, leaving it up to HAL. I tried that and it didn't seem to change anything. However, at the same time I purged the mouse from Xorg.conf, I created an FDI file for the mouse in /etc/hal/fdi/policy. I wonder now if that was necessary--there was no FDI for the mouse before, but perhaps there doesn't really need to be one if you aren't applying any special settings? Dunno, I don't understand much about HAL yet.
I have tried a couple of other things: first, I set the double click speed to the minimum using the Xfce Mouse Settings applet (BTW, I suppose this applet is a front-end to some shell command or config file, but what?). That seems to help, but only a little. Second, if I use the mouse in an unnaturally precise manner (e.g., when single-clicking, I click as quickly as possible and lift my finger all the way off the button), the problems mostly, but not entirely, disappear.
Any suggestions?

Did you try another mouse by chance?
Well, no, and I suppose to be thorough I should try that. But I am quite sure that the problem appeared suddenly, and exactly at the time of the upgrade I mentioned.
Well, it could be that your fdi modification tries to catch the mouse events twice in a row. Perhaps you should post the file.
Besides: There is are no mouse specific fdi settings in my system. I currently have no idea where the mouse behaviour was defined besides my still old xorg.conf. (I did only activate Option "AutoAddDevices".)

• Working with polygon shapes and defining active/non-active mouseover areas (imported shapes)?

Hey guys!
Really struggling with this one. Since Edge only has rectangles and ellipses built in as available shapes, how to I/we work with polygon shapes and active mouseover areas INSIDE of these shapes and non-active mouseover areas OUTSIDE of the shapes?
Problem/symptom: when I import a polygon, be it any file format from from Photoshop or SVG from Illustrator, a rectangular border/background (transparent) gets applied, leading to this rectangle defining the mouseover area of the shape - and not the shape itself (be it a star or whatever).
WHAT I WANT: the very shape defines the mouseover area. How do I achieve this?? See examle below:
WHAT I DON'T WANT: how is is now:

Thanks for your answer, resdesign.
I've had a look at the edge commons library, and it seems like it opens up a lot of possibilities. However, I cannot figure out how to access/target individual shapes and layers for applying effects like you would with symbols (rotation, colorchange and so on).
WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE THE SHAPES INSERTED ON SEPERATE TIMELINES for further work and effects manipulation - is this somehow possible? So that one could reach the shapes from the stage with something like:
sym.getShape("shapename");play("show");

I need to remove the default Firefox bookmarks.
There are way too many and none of which are usefull to me.
Also, I am vision impaired and reading through such a long list is very eye-fatigueing to me.
I would like to make my old IE Favorites folder the default. How can I do this?

Did you import an iPhoto Library from the old Hard Drive? Do you still have that old Library?
The way to clear out a Library is to Export the photos - Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
For the annoying start-up message:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

• Non rectangular windows using Swing

Hi everybody
I've been trying to create a non rectangular window (i.e. an oval window) subclassing javax.swing.JWindow but even though the drawing of the inside of the window works correctly, the problem is with the outer part, which is painted anyway using the background color while I'd like to have it
transparent so to simulate a real oval window.
i.e. I'd like to have something like (dots are just fillings to give the drawing some shape):
. Transparent background...
..... ----------------------- ..........
.... / Window ............... \ .......
| .... \ contents .............. / ....... | <--- Window's bounds
..... ----------------------- ..........

Any idea about how to prevent the background from being painted??
Thanks in advance

• Non-rectangular windows

The issue is old and I know it is a very strong need of the Java community. That is:
"Can I have non-rectangular windows in a Java application?"
By non-rectangular windows I mean windows like those in WinAmp or RealOne skins, which have round edges and have all of the transparent areas below them working and active.
In http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4479178.html it is stated that this will be fixed in Tiger release in 2004.
Can anyone please give me any information about this?
I believe a workaround would be to use Eclipse SWT, but I would prefer to stick to standard Java libraries. Is it possible?

I had to change my Apple ID and password in itunes. Now my icloud doesn't work and I can't update my apps on my iPhone. I have looked at suggestions on the community pages and apple suggestions but none of them are relevant to iOS 8.1.2
icloud just keeps bringing up my old email address & asking for my old password which doesn't exist anymore and when I try to sign out of icloud it wants my old password, when I tried to change my primary email back to the old one it wants me to verify it through an email address that doesn't exist. Please can you help me sort out this nightmare.

Hi skippy2012trev,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
Cheers,
Joe

• TS4006 I have several iphones on  find my iphone. How do I know which one is the correct iphone. None of them are labeled Iphone4 or 5 etc.

I just had my iphone stolen from me. In the past I have always set up my phones an ipads on to the find my iphone service. I have never deleted them from the find my iphone account and now I have 3 iphones showing and 2 ipads. How can you tell the difference when none of them are labeled as Iphone 4, iphone 4s, iphone 5, etc. No dates are shown as when purchased so it I can't figure out which one is the correct iphone to put on lost mode and send message to.

Deleting on one device does not affect another device.
You can delete the App's on the iPhone and nothing will happen to the ones on the iPad.
1.  You don't need to.
2.  Settings->Cellular->"Use Cellular Data For" will show the data usage for each App since the last statistics reset
3.  Settings->General->Background App Refresh Will show which Apps are allowed to get data in the background
4.  It restricts it to Wifi.  If the App requires internet access and Data is turned off, it will have to wait until the device is connected to a wifi network.
5.  Nope, You just use up battery since the BT radio will continuously look for nearby BT devices.
6.  The Personal Hotspot uses your cellular internet connection from your phone or other cellular device; whether you consider that secure or not I cannot say.  It also depends on what you are doing while connected to the Hotel's wifi. I would not do online banking while on vacation though.

It keeps telling me that one of the USB devices for this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.  I have tried all of the ports and still am not having any luck.  I have purchased 3 brand new cables and none of them are working.  I have tried to update the driver but it says I am using the most up to date.  I have tried to reset the Ipod by holding the center button and menu button until the apple appears.  I am not sure what else to try.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  My computer is Windows Vista!

Hello butterflygirlie,
Have you tried uninstalling the driver for your iPod from within Device Manager?  After uninstalling it, go ahead and unplug your iPod and plug it back in.  Doing so should cause your system to locate the proper driver for it.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• Can't see monthly depreciation in a non-posting depr area

Hi Folks,
Is there any report where I can see monthly depreciation based on a non-posting depreciation area?
Althought I found out many reports that show accumulated depreciation, I couldn't find one to see month-to-month depreciation fee.
The S_ALR_87012936 report has 2 problems: 1st - It shows only 5 periods; 2sd - it shows wrong values to my non-posting depreciation area.
Thank you very much.

Hi.
S_ALR_87012936 report would be perfect if I could see more than 5 monthes. I don't know, but I'm able to see only from Jan to May in the monthly view. Is there a way to see ahead?
All others reports only show Accumulated Depreciation, not monthly.
If I ask for 31.12.2010, I will take only the Year Depreciation and not December-2010 depreciation.
Any tip?
Thank you all again.

Hold the power button and the home button down until the screen goes black and the apple logo appears. This will do a reset and you should be able to update your apps then.
