Non triax sony camera to match ESPN sports camera footage

Trying to mimic a shot from a televised baseball game, which camera will have a similar look to the cameras used but that dont require a deck. I'm guessing 3ccd 60i 1920x1080? goes to an SR tape maybe?
any advice is welcome, including lens choice?

They are in the same codec. The only difference between these formats is that one is progressive and the other is interlaced. Both are XDCAM, both are 1080, both run at 29.97fps. NO conversion is necessary.
They should multiclip. Do they not?

Capture of DVCAM from a Sony camera - video is sped up

When I try to capture video shot on the DVCAM setting on a SONY camera, and play it immediately with FCP (7), the video is in fast motion. I have tried various setting to get this back to normal and have gotten no where. I am sure I am missing something simple. Can someone please help me? It would be much appreciated. Thanks!

DVCAM is only a tape speed issue- that is - Sony designed the system so the tape runs 50% faster. The idea is that you are spreading the recording over more particles so that you should have reduced chance of dropouts. The practical result is that a 60 min DV tape will only hold 40 minutes if recorded at DVCAM settings. In either case (DV or DVCAM) the material recorded is still DV25 format.
If you play back a DVCAM recorded tape using non-DVCAM tape transport mechanism, the tape will appear to run 50% faster.

FCP 7 no longer supports device control for sony cameras?

I recently tried to capture some HDV footage from my Sony HVR-A1U miniDV camcorder in FCP 7. It's been a little while since I used this camera, but I am certain that the last time I used it to capture footage it was a controllable device.
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, can anyone comment if this rolled-back device control for Sony cameras? It wants me to capture as a "Sony Firewire device" which is listed under "non-controllable devices" I am 100% certain I've previously logged timecode and batch captured with this computer and camera.
It initializes the camera just fine, but it captures with no control, as in "capture now."
I'm on FCP 7.0.3 on a 2 X 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel OSX 10.6.8.
I've tried all the usual re-starting FCP and the device and plugging in/un plugging iLINK cable etc.
Does anyone have a work-around? I'm not crazy for thinking this used to be possible, right? Should I roll back to Tiger if I want to use this camera?

I'm on FCP 6.0.6 using OS 10.6.8. Not using that Sony camera, but the Sony Z7U. I know this is comparing apples to oranges. But I can log and capture as a controllable device. I'm thinking your problem is related to something else besides the OS being 10.6.8.

Importing to FCPX from Sony Camera

I am trying to import 1080/60P clips from a current Sony camera into FCPX.
I am well aware of the tradeoff of size vs editing ease between AVCHD and ProRes. In this case I have hundreds of clips, most of which will be trimmed drastically if they are used at all. So I am hoping to do a rough cut in native format, then transcode that rough cut for final editing and cleanup. Should be a big saving in disk space. I have a new quad core Mac that should be able to play the native clips quite well.
I already have an archive of the camera files on a Firewire 800 drive. I was hoping that FCPX would be able to import it by reference, creating little wrapper .mov files. However when I try to do that, I get a message that the folder containing the video cannot be imported. (It does offer to import the folder of stills that is part of the same file structure).
If instead I choose Import from Camera, FCPX happily ingests the video files but from the size of the .mov files it creates it is clear that they are not references but copies of the camera originals. That makes complete sense for initial import of an actual SD card or USB-mounted hard drive, but I really don't want another 50 GB of files filling up my drive.
If necessary I will use that process then delete the 50 GB of originals (I do have another copy on a second drive). But I am hoping that there may be a way to create reference wrappers around the files I already have on my drive so that I can work with them where they are.
I am interested to know why FCPX behaves as it does, if anyone knows. For example, are audio and video multiplexed differently in the camera archive than in the .mov files that FCPX creates?

Camera is HDR-PJ760, which has proved to be absolutely amazing for handheld shots in difficult conditions. Many of the shots in this project were taken from a boat on the ocean, where a tripod would not have helped. All using the highest available quality settings at 60P. You can't get back quality thrown away in the camera. (Yes I know that the high compression in AVCHD is in fact throwing away a lot, but there is always some tradeoff to get a reasonably compact handheld camera.)
I am guessing that the camera files are muxed, and that is why they cannot be used directly. If that's the case, I will just have to put up with the conversion step.

Does it not play at all or cannot you get the audio in the timeline?
Did you copy the entire card to the hdd and then imported the file via the Media Browser?
Did you source patch the audio tracks?

Select one and click cmd-A which selects them all.
Then click the import button if it hasn't started already.

Reports of leading & non -leading ledgers are not matching

has been taken by giving the data (Currency:10, Company code: IN06,
Ledger: 0L, Fiscal Year: 2008, From period:1, To period: 16)
And non-leading ledger report has been taken by giving the data
(Currency:10, Company code: IN06, Ledger: AI, Fiscal Year: 2008, From

And account codes are not same in both the reports. If one account codes
is there in one report it is missing in other report.
Balance sheet for the period from April 2008 to March 2009 has to be finalised based on the non-leading
ledger report.

Mountain Lion doesn't display Finder preview icons for .ARW files? (RAW pictures taken with SONY cameras)

This is something that I find rather ridiculous, and have a hard time believing no-one at Apple has addressed yet.
Basically the problem is that neither Mountain Lion nor Lion show Finder thumbnail preview images for pictures that are taken with SONY digital cameras.
This is something that Snow Leopard, as well as multiple earlier iterations of OS X used to do without any problem. The professional photographer community who uses SONY professional DSLR cameras is up in arms about this. And we've all been crossing our fingers that perhaps the Mac OS X 10.7.1, 10.7.2, 10.7.3, 10.7.4, or possibly the 10.8 update would fix this issue for us.

This is a flaw in Apple's operating system. Especially considering that there are supposedly 200+ "new features" which were just released in Mountain Lion.
Those of us who work with SONY cameras every day would probably have paid the $19.99 upgrade price for just one "feature". And not even a new one. An old one. The ability to see our pictures in the Finder. Pretty basic stuff.
Hopefully someone fixes this for us with the release of Mac OS X 10.8.1

I can see image icons for all my pre-MtLion images. These are the folder images (Icons), and all the photo images (icons) on all my hard drives. IE If I have a folder of 300 wedding pictures, they all show the picture image above the file name in the icon view. So if I want to open a picture of the "Flower Girl" I can see the image (icon) of the Flower Girl. Without the image showing all I see is the filename... Smith-212.tif. Now with Mt. Lion I CAN'T see any IMAGES (ICONS) on any of the 300 photos. Just the file names in all the different views.... Icon View, List VIew, etc. If I have a Folder with 23 more folders inside, they don't even show up either. I saw a step by step process of selecting the file and right clicking on it and opening it in Preview, then doing a copy and then pasting it on the original image in tghe get info window. WHAT A PURE PAIN TO HAVE TO DO THIS TO 170,375 IMAGES.
The other issue I have is that 93.5 % of the remaining icons that do exist on my system is that those 93.5 % are so pixelated they appear as a hugh checkerboard viewed through two inch thick glasses..... not for drinking, but the kinda glasses used by a blind man. IE the remaining icons are so PIXELATED it is almost impossible to tell what they are.

After updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, SONY .ARW files (and I'm assuming Pentax .PEF files too) now render proper thumbnail icons in the Finder in list view, icon view, coverflow view, and columns view.
Since this is now a recognized bug, I'm guessing that the free update to Lion (10.7.5) that Apple also just released yesterday (September 19th, 2012) will probably fix this issue too.

I have OS 10.8.2 and nothing has changed as far as being able to see photos / folders as image icons...
rendered proper thumbnail icons.
I have thousands of photo files that show nothing other that the file names.
The only way I can even see the file is to open it in Photoshop, or open the folder in Bridge. Even then after I open it in PS CS6, and save it again. It still is a "Empty" file...... no render proper thumbnail.

Trouble Connecting Canon, Sony Cameras

I am a teacher and I have a new batch of G5 iMacs for my Yearbook class. Unfortunately, I am having a problem with Mac OS recognizing the cameras when they are connected. Usually a camera will show up like a disk icon when attached via USB and powered on. This works fine with my Casio Exilim camera.
However, I have some students with Canon and Sony cameras that will not be recognized by Mac. I figured out that some cameras will be recognized only when you open iPhoto and the camera appears in the Source window.
I am a long-time Mac user and I love Mac, but I hate iPhoto. We use Photoshop to correct photos and having to use the iPhoto interface for importing/archiving is a pain. I just want the students to open the camera, copy their jpegs onto the hard drive and edit in Photoshop.
Am I missing a Setting or Preference that is making it so that my camera will only be seen in iPhoto? Why would this be the case for some cameras, and not others? Thank you for your feedback.

Canon cameras never have been able to mount on the desktop as removable media. As already been mentioned, if iPhoto won't recognize it you can use Image Capture to manually view and upload the photos to the desktop and then go from the desktop into iPhoto. Image Capture will allow the students to upload only those photos the want.
As far as the Sony, check in the various menus on the camera for the option that PhillyPhan mentioned. In some Sony cameras it's under Setup 2 menu and the item is USB Connect and the options are Normal, PTP and PictBridge. I think you want to choose PTP.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

I have recently heard that camera raw can now convert pictures taken in raw on a Sony camera, is this correct and is this a recent update in camera raw

Sometimes this happens, because the camera is not properly charged. In that case connect the camera to a charger or use a card reader.

When I have an NEF file on my desktop and click on OPEN WITH, it shows the programs, including Photoshop, that will open it. But, when I click on OPEN WITH for an ARW image, it doesn't show Photoshop. It's possible they aren't in the right format. See this list to verify you have the correct format. I know some Sony cameras use the ARW interface (known as RAW).
You may want to use a photo converter like photoshop, etc. to get photos into .jpeg or other file formats.
