Since tnsping did NOT return an error, we know that you did not tnsping 'orcl', which is what you tried to connect to with sqlplus. Show us the actual tnsping command.

You have to have the SQL Server tools installed on the box, to get sqlcmd.
You then can connect with SQL authentication
sqlcmd -S <Servername\Instancename> -U user -P password
or with windows authentication
sqlcmd -S <Servername\Instancename> -E

How to connect from sql*plus to Sql Server
Dear Profs.
How I can connect from sql*plus v8 on my local pc(Win XP) to Sql Server Express 2005 light weight installed in same local pc ?
Thanks,
Ahmed. You'll need to setup heterogeneous services. This is done by creating an init file for the SQL Server db with %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin that refers to a DSN for the Sql Server Database. The listener would also need an entry for the SQL Server DB DSN. After that you would create a dblink to SQL Server in your Oracle instance and then could query across the dblink.

I am not able to connect from my laptop to airplay mirroring equipment, icon is not showing on my laptop. It does show when I hook up a HDMI wire to the apple TV box.
I think you mean Ethernet, not HDMI wire. If the airplay icon is showing up when wired then that would indicate an issue with your wifi network.

Apex link not able to connect from local machine.
Hi,
Here is the scenario.
I have installed oracle apex 3.2 in my vmware linux machine.
I'm able to connect the link (http://b03apex.domain.com) from my linux(vmware) box but I'm not able to connect from windows local machine.
I tried to ping the ip, from both the ends are working but not sure why I'm not able to connect from windows local machine.
local windows ip: 192.168.1.2
vmware Linux ip address : 192.168.1.3
Do I need to do add any parameters in the Apache logs to connect from windows local machine.?
Need your suggestion.
Thanks, Muhammed.user9354175 wrote:

Can you ping the VM hostname from your Windows console (instead of IP address)?
Have you tried in your Windows browser the following URL (using IP address of the VM instead of the hostname)?
http://192.168.1.3/
Have you checked that your browser is not configured to use a proxy server?
Have you checked your Windows firewall for allowing tcp web traffic to the virtual machine?
Have you checked for the same on on the virtual machine (firewall will be likely be done using <i>iptables</i>). -
Borland C++ Delphi application is not able to connect to SQL Server as Non Admin user
Hi,
I am working on a Borland C++ and Delphi application. This application connects to SQL Server and returns database queries results. Once we migrated to windows Server 2003 we have started facing an issue.
1. IF we login to client application as admin user then this connects properly with SQL Server and returns database queries. But if we connect using Non- Admin users then application is not able to connect SQL Server.
SQL Server 2008
Windows Server 2003.
Can anybody help on this.
Thanks in Advance.
RakeshThis application is written in Borland C++ and Delphi running on Windows 2003 Server. This is a Windows GUI based small tool. Basic functionality of the tool is : 1) Once we invoke the tool it connects to DB(SQL Server 2005) and populates a list of
all the tables present in DB. 2) If we select any table from the list populated in step (1) and provide query parameters, this will return results from Database.
Issue: IF we login to the Windows machine as Administrator this application runs perfectly .This application populates the DB tables correctly and returns results from database when queries executed as in step (2)
But if we login as some other user (like hubapp) then this populates some different set of table which are not from the same database instance .Also the queries does not return any results. In the logs we get following error message : (TiltData is the instance
name for our Database)
Msg:Application Exception : Cannot locate or connect to SQL server.Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or does not exist. Specified SQL
server not found.Alias:
TiltData1 occurred in main thread.
As for the connection string
'DATABASE NAME=tiltdata'

Any help is appreciated. I have spent a lot of time on this issue with no results.

Database not updating with changes from SQL*plus
Im having some issues with updating my database. I want to delete some rows in a table that has 323 records, so I run the SQL in SQL*Plus. It tells me that Ive deleted 222 rows. I then get a count of the number of rows in the table, and it tells me 101. But if I open another SQL*Plus window and get a row count, the original count (323) is what it says. The enterprise manager also tells me 323 records are in that table. Am I missing something here?

Until you 'commit' from the session you have issued the 'delete' statement, the other sessions will not be able to see the changes. In other words, the other sessions are getting you a read consistent view of the data. -
Able to connect from SQL-Assistant BUT unable to connect from Sql Developer
Hello,
I have been troubling with this issue for the last two weeks...tried so much, but could not able to resolve....
sqlplus username/password@IPAddress:port/ServiceName
I am able to connect to DATABASE from SQLAssistant only when I provide string like ABOVE........If I dont mention the SERVICE, m unable to connect to DB...
Now the biggest issue is with SQL Developer.....m not at all able to connect to DB using SQL Developer....I tried all options...but no use...
waiting for your reply......
Thanks Much in Advance.....What have you tried, and what error messages are you getting?
When you create a connection in SQL Developer, you should specify IPAddress, port,ServiceName as in your sqlplus connect string. -
I'm not able to connect from 9.2 client to 8.1.7.0 database through ODBC
Hi,
I'm trying to connect from ORACLE 9.2 client to 8.1.7 DATABASE. The client is on WINDOWS XP. But I'm getting connection timed out error message. What's wrong with that ?Can you connect to the 8.1.7 database from other clients? Can you verify that the listner is up?
Can the 9.2 client connect to some database?
I'm guessing that the 8.1.7 database listner isn't up or that the tnsnames on your client isn't set up correctly.
Justin Hi Justin,
1) I am able to connect to 8.1.7 database from other clients.
2)The 9.2 client is able to connect to some other database on the network which is 8.1.6.2.
3) I have cut and pasted tnsnames.ora from the working client( but that client is 8i client ).
4) this is the first time I am using this kind of configuration i.e., trying to access 8.1.7 server from 9.2 client. I tried to create new connection through NET CONFIGURATION ASSISTANT as per the documentation but it's not working. -
Mystery as to why we're not able to connect from...
Scenario:
Windows 7 laptop in a Windows Domain environment is attempting a straight RDP session to a non-Domain Windows server 2008 R2. Laptop (System A) gets rejected every time using correct local Administrator account and verified correct password on non-Domain
Windows 2008 R2 server (System B)
Any ideas or scenarios that may cause this kind of behavior (other than bad password which has been totally eliminated as a variable)???
Facts:
I can remotely log in to (System B) using LogMeIn and the Administrator account and password referenced above. I can also log in to (System B) from another non-Domain (System C) server using same credentials as above, without any problems. (System B) has
NO GPO's applied (verified by GPRESULTS) but I cannot speak to (System A). Owner of (System A won't help out anymore so I need some possible ideas or things that
may cause this kind of behavior)
User who has problem claims to also be able to log in to (System B) from a non-Domain Linux and Mac OSX box.

0Hi,
As a workaround please add the following line to the .rdp file (using Notepad) that the user double-clicks to connect to the server:
enablecredsspsupport:i:0
If they do not have a .rdp file for this server they can create one easily by entering the name, configuring settings, etc., in the Remote Desktop Client and then clicking the Save As button.
After making the above change please have them verify that they are able to connect. If the change was performed correctly they should get the server logon screen instead of the frontside authentication prompt.
Thanks.

Not able to connect to SQL 2005
All,
I am not able start WLI domain with weblogic XA drivers to sql 2005. It fails during startup.
I was able to create weblogic XA data source on another weblogic instance( NOT WLI) after it was up and running. I was able to select from XA datasource. I was able to select with the same SQL(SELECT PROCESS_TYPE, PROCESS_INSTANCE FROM WLI_PROCESS_DOC_REFERENCE) where wli was failing.
I added wlspy.jar for debug messages.

Not able to connect from linux client. Get TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter
Hi,
Details of the configuration :
Server:
RHEL4: 10.2.0.3 Oracle Enterprise Database installed.
SID = orcl, port 1521.
Client:
RHEL4 : 10.2.0.x client installed.
Whenever, I try to connect from Client to server, I get following error:
For tnsping orcl I get following error :
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
I get the same error even, If I do a sqlplus "scott/tiger@orcl" with TNS_ADMIN, ORACLE_HOME everything set correctly.
On the server, I am able to connect to the same db without any problem. I have following env set ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN and PATH. Here, I am trying to make sure that the sqlplus goes through the listner.
Any help is appreciated. Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks much.
V.ChandrashekarEnsure your listener is properly configured and started. Check the listener's address and verify you can tnsping it with the tnsping command:
tnsping orcl
On the other side, make sure your tnsnames.ora file on the client side has properly configured the address where the listener is located.
