Not inserting Group Header

Post Author: luvthehawks

Crystal is not inserting the group header when I insert a new group. Itu2019s the same in a new or existing report.
INSERT
GROUP
(Select field for new group)
OK
Crystal does insert a new group, but does not insert the group header field. If I insert the field into the blank group header, I canu2019t sort by the group.
I have been using Crystal Reports for some time, with no problems with inserting group header. This problem is new since I got a new computer. (Coincidence?)

"Why group header will not repeat on pages that are printing the just the group footer.
Have you some tricks to forced the printing of group header on a new page ?"
You can set the group header to NEW PAGE BEFORE, but if the group footer spans more than one page, the header will not repeat. It is just the way it is.
Try setting the group header to new page before and put the info from group header in the page header-see how that works for you.

Hi,
I could not able to show a scalar value in Page Header/Group Header of the report which is returned from Sub-report. But I am able to display it in both Group Footer and Page Footer.
I used shared variable in formula filed of both main and sub report and both are placed in the main and sub-report.
Please do needful.
Thanks & Regards,
Mani G.S.

You can only show Shared variables in main report in a location after the subreport has executed.
If you want to show values in page header or group header you must place subreport in a section above these. This is unlikely to be possible so you will have to live with displaying results in Group/page footer.
Alternatively you can execute subreport twice, once where subreport is hidden in a section above page/group header and pass summary figure you require and then again where you currently have subreport so you can see details as required.

• Group Header is not repeating when exported to pdf in 2008 r2

Hi
i have a typical scenario here , when i am trying to repeat my group header it is working fine in report viewer but when i exported to pdf it is not repeating. yea it is working fine in excel.
could some one help me in this as i tried various ways but couldn't able to figure it out
PS: i am using 2008r2
if this is the issue in 2008r2 , did it got fixed in any new version please suggest.
thanks
sharath

Hi sharath,
Based on my understanding, the group header doesn’t repeat when you export report to PDF file.
In Reporting Service, the RepeatOnNewPage property has effect on static row members only and where KeepWithGroup is not None. If value for KeepWithGroup is None, the group header will not appear in a new page. As we tested in our environment, we set FixedData
as True, KeepWithGroup as After and RepeatOnNewPage as True, the group header repeat in second page when export to PDF file. Please refer to screenshot below:
So in your scenario, please check if you have set KeepWithGroup as After. Then export to PDF again to check if group header can repeat in multiple pages. If issue persists, please provide some detail information about your report design. If possible, please
provide some screenshots about your results before and after perform PDF render.

• Field not in "Insert Group" list

I need to group a report's results based on a field, but that field is not listed among the fields in the "Insert Group" dialog. What are some reasons a field would not show up there, despite being in the Database Fields list in Field Explorer?

If the field is a memo field or if you are trying to insert a formula as a group then the formula should not contain any summaries and evaluation function like whieprintingrecords; Also you cannot insert a group on formula that doen't contain any database field.

• Repeat Group Header On Each Page not working

Hi,
I have a report that have 3 subreport, and in the Subreport, there is Group Headers that enabled the option "Repeat Group Header On Each Page". It works fine in the CR10 preview. However, the header won't repeat in the PDF generated by JRC.
Any Idea?
Thanks a lot!!

Hi,
Doesthe JRC engine uses CR10 jars or XI\R2 jars? Can you possibly try it with latest set of Eclipse jars? You can download it from Diamond.

• How to display the last value of a field in a group in the group header

I need to display the last quiz score from a group of quiz scores as part of the header of a group of units (the quiz score values are in the detail record). I can not use the group footer, which would be the natural place to find the last value. It must be in the group header because there will be a subsequent group within the unit group. In other words, the grouping is as follows:
Unit Group Header (Display last quiz score in unit)
SubUnit Group Header (Display other detail summaries)
Detail Record (including quiz score)
SubUnit Group Footer
Unit Group Footer
While there is a minimum/maximum summary function, there is not a first/last function.

Who is constantly amazed at the ability of users to request report features that are not easily implented through Crystal Reports...

Hi Fuskie,
One suggestion to display the last quiz score in the Group Header, other than what had already been suggested, will be to use a linked subreport in the Group Header. It is not an efficient way to display the information, but it could do the trick.
Another suggestion will be to insert a subreport in the report header, then store the last quiz score in an array for each group, then share it with the main report and display the values in the appropriate group. In this way it will only connect twice to the data source, one for the main report and once for the subreport, instead of multiple connection for each group.
Finally, the most efficient way will be to have this value calculated on the database side using a command object or a stored procedure.

• Data Concatenation - Looking to have result in the Group header

Dear all,
Few months ago, I try to concatenate cells under a Group,
I succeed using the formula gave by Raghavendra
Initialize:
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar i:="";
Place the above formula in group header and suppress group header section.
evaluate:
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar i;
i:=i", "name field;
Place the above formula in detail section and suppress the details section.
display:
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar i;
country field" - "i;
Place the above formula in group footer and right click go to format field and check the option "can grow" in common tab.
My today issues is that I'm still looking for concatenation but I need it in the Header of the Group, not in the footer
As far as I understood
- Crystal Report is reading line by Line, so I can't retrieve the value in the Header before the value are calculate.
- Moreover I've issue on initialize the value
I thougth an GlobalVar Array can work, but I can't find the way to do it
My request is, I've have this DataSet
Paris | Louvre
Paris | Eiffel
Sydney | Opéra
I'm looking Group on City to have in the Header, the value concatened
Paris | Louvre, Eiffel
Sydney | Opéra

• Running Total in Group Header

Post Author: bahamaER
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
Hello, I have been reviewing threads for running totals and would like some assistance on creating a running total for a group with a condition that will display in the group header, the running total should also reset for each group. Is this possible?
I know that there are some constraints such as the variable being reset to 0 in the header for each group as well as the group records have not been rendered when the header formulas are being assessed. I have been able to accomplish the task of running totals with conditions for groups using a running total field and also 3 separate formulas placed in the group header, detail and footer. The display is only correct in the group footer; my goal is to have the footer formula in the group header. Any ideas? I am currently using CR 8.5 but will be upgrading to CR 2008.
Thankyou

Hi,
If you are trying to calculate Total and display it in Group Header for field value placed in Detail, then you will get incorrect/no value for total, as Crystal Reports prints/processes the report line by line and it will not be able to process the Total for field in Detail section in Group Header.
Its is by Design.
For a workaround:
- Insert the same probematic report (Say A.rpt) as a Subreport in Group Header of this report(Say A.rpt).(Say in GroupHeader A1) and link the Main Report to the
- Insert Section Below (Say GroupHeader A2)
- Calculate Total in Section Group Header A2)
This workaround will reduce the Performance of the report as Subreport will be proceed for each Group Value.

• How to show the total in group footer in group header?

Hello,
I am having difficulties while showing the total of a group footer in the group header. The total in the group footer is correct, but when i am placing the formula in the header it is giving me 0.
I am having 2 formulas to get the total which i placed in the footer:
1.
whileprintingrecords;
numbervar sumpctx := sumpctx + {@Sum OB};
2.
whileprintingrecords;
global numbervar sumpctx;
numbervar DispSales;
DispSales := sumpctx;
sumpctx := 0;
DispSales;
now, I want to add the 2 formula in the header, but it is giving me 0 value, But in the group footer it is showing the correct value.
I tried to do:
Sum ({@Sum OB}) and it is giving that the field can not be summarized.
The group Name is @Entity which is grouped by.
@Entity :
if {Customer.NAME}="NONE" THEN
" OB"
ELSE {Customer.NAME}
Thanks in advance for yopur help.

Hi,
What i was trying to say there is a hierarchy in report design and records are processed in that way.
Report header/footer - only once
Page header/footer -once in a page
detail -n no of times ,n-no of rows of data
First report header will be processed,then page header n detail,after that report and page footer.
If u insert a group,then the order will be-
report header,page header,group header,detail,group footer,detail,report and page footer.
When u r in group header,all the records are not processed,that results the sum as zero.
But when u create a formula,it calculates the sum first and then u put it there.
I hope this time it will be helpful for u.

Misra P.

Hi,
In a GROUP BY querry, every item in the SELECT list must be one of the following
(1) One of the GROUP BY expressions
(2) An aggregate function
(3) A constant
(4) Deterministic expressions based on the above (for example, COALESCE, where all the arguments are taken from the list above)
So if your scalar sub-query is going to be part of the GROUP BY query, it has to fit into one of those categories
I don't see any good way of convincing the compiler that your scalar sub-query is a constant, even if it happens to rturn a constant value, but you can make it either
(1) one of the GROUP BY expressions (compute it in a sub-query, to avoid repeating the whole scalar sub-query in the GROUP BY clause), or
(2) an aggregate function ( e.g. MAX ((SELECT ...))).
But the scalar sub-query doesn't have to be part of the GROUP BY query. Depending on your tables and the desired results, it might be easy to do the GROUP BY and what is now the scalar sub-query separately, and then join the two result sets.
If you need help, it always helps to post:
(1) The version of Oracle (and any other relevant software) you're using
(2) A little sample data (just enough to show what the problem is) from all the relevant tables
(3) The results you want from that data
(4) Your best attempt so far (formatted) (You posted this, but since it's unformated, it's very hard to read.)
(5) The full error message (if any), including line number
Executable SQL statements (like "CREATE TABLE AS ..." or "INSERT ..." statements) are best for (2).
Formatted tabular output is okay for (3). Type these 6 characters:
{code}
(small letters only, inside curly brackets) before and after formatted text, to preserve spacing.
Simplify the problem if you can. For example, if your real query involves many columns and many join conditions, try to post a similar problem that has few columns and very siomple join conditions, but has the same problem as your real query.

• Have a gap in detail of first page and not display group footer on each pag

Please help me about Memo field in SubReport in CrystalReportXI. I have a SubReport that need to display pageheader, detail, page footer, and in detail of subreport contains memo field and set the property of this text box to "Can Grow" = Yes .However, CrystalReportX does not support to display pageheader, pagefooter in SubReport. So. I have created a formular FakePageHeader that has code as
"WhileReadingRecords;
true"
and group in this field and checked option repeat group header on each page and right click Section Expert->check print at Bottom of page for Group Footer.
This problem is when I preview Subreport. It display text in group header and a gap in detail of first page and view next page, the subreport display right data of memo field. But the report still not display group footer on each page.
How do I can remove a gap in first page and display group footer on each page?
Thanks

in subreport in format for the memo field uncheck keep object together.
You can not force group footers to repeat on each page.
I have not tried this but you might be able to capture the data you want to show in SR page footer and display in main report page footer, using shared variables.

• How to print Group Header on page break in a subreport - CR XI

Post Author: rickcf
CA Forum: General
I have a subreport that has 3 groups with only one group that has a heading. When the report prints and a subreport group is split between two pages (on a page break) I would like the group heading to also print again at the top of the page- even with the word "continued..." also. Right now only the main report page header prints. How can I do this since there is no page header in a subreport?
Thanks

Is there any way to test during detail processing time to see if a page break is occuring? If so I could print out a fake header on the detail line, suppressing it only if the page breaks. That is the only thing I can come up with to solve the issue.
I am surprised the is not an option to reprint the group header on a page break. That seems like a needed option and that is the standard in Foxpro reporting - there is a checkbox option to cover this scenario.
A coworker did find a workaround to add a psudo page header to a subreport so if I can add that and put my group info in there it will also work. I have not looked at the code yet though.
I have another issue I am working on so this one might take a while to get back to.
