Not posted depreciation for an fixed asset

Dear SAP Guru's,
I have the following situation at my company:
I have an asset where the first APC value was posted in year 2000. The useful life for this asset was 3 years.
That means in 2003, the asset was fully depreciated.
The problem is that in 2004 it was made again an APC posting on this asset, but nobody has seen that the useful life still ended. Therefore this amount was never planned for depreciation and as consequence it was never depreciated.
Now the problem is that the financial department wanted to retire this asset but they received the error message that they can not retire the asset because there is still value on the asset.
Which options do I have in this case to be able to plan and post the whole remaining depreciation in this month (31.11.2010) in order to do after wards the retirement?
Thanks,
Best regards,
Melitta

Hi Melitta
1. Do an un-planned dep posting or
2. Better and simpler option would be do ABSO using Transaction type 101... You can enter a P&L account of your choice (Which will be Debited) and asset will be receiving the off set posting

• How to post/configure revaluation of Fixed Assets

hello gurus,
i want step by step customization for revaluating fixed assets.
regards,
anand

Hi,
For revaluation of asset we have two options available
1.Indexed Replacement:In this case change in value of asset is posted automatically at the time of depreciation posting. In this method we have to define index series.Follow the steps given below
a. Deifne dep area (OR64) In this step we determine the dep area in which we want to manage revaluation of assets.
b.Define Index series(OAV5)
c.Enter index series in asset class or asset master record(as02) for the specific dep area.
2.Revaluation with Inflation management: In this case either we can go for one time revaluation or periodic revaluation.

• Problems posting depreciation for legacy assets taken over

We recently loaded conversion balances for asset with a takeover date of Aug 2nd, with various prior capitalization dates. The date of last depreciation posted was set as Dec 31st 2004. When we try to post unplanned depreciation for all of 2005 in December, the system says depreciation for period 12 was already posted, so do a repeat run. There was no depreciation actually posted for period 12, because there were no assets before today. A check of the expense account and depreciation report and a search by depreciation doc type confirm this.
When we try a repeat run, it says cannot do it for period 12, need to do it for period 000. When we try it for period 000, it says no depreciation areas to post to. The config has been checked and the depreciation areas and posting periods are set up correctly. The load, the depreciation posting and all steps for closing of asset fiscal year were successfully carried out in DEV and QA. The only difference in PRD is that the year was closed before the load, but we reopened it.
Also, the opening balance in the asset history sheet for 2006 does not agree with the closing balance for 2005, the difference being the planned depreciation amount. The FI-AA reconciliation report RAABST02 also shows a difference only in the Accum Depn accounts, equal to this figure. So clearly the system THINKs depreciation was posted. When we try to close asset fiscal year it says depreciation was not completely posted for 2005, but it won't let us post it. HELP!

I tested this whole thing in DEV and QA before we did the same process in PRD, and I was able to run depreciation in those clients, so I think the problem is specific to PRD. As I mentioned, the only difference in PRD is that we had closed the fiscal year so I had to re-open it to perform the load.
Yes, the problem I have been experiencing has been for Dec 2005 and I don't expect there to be anything in TABA because the system simply will not let me post depreciation of any type, for any period in 2005. I've tried it for period 8 as well. No matter what, it keeps insisting that depreciation was already run for period 12 2005 and to do a repeat run. When I try a repeat run, it says 'the last posting run was for period 000' and that only period 000 can be posted in the repeat run. When I try doing it for period 000, it says "there are no areas to post to".
I did try to reverse the Y/E close with OAAQ for 2005, but still no luck getting depreciation running. So you see why resetting it was looking like a good option? :-0

• Manual depreciation and Planned but not posted depreciation forwarded

HI Expert,
We would like to request for Product Enhancement for Fixed Asset Module due to the inconsistency in the computation for the following:
u2022 The planned and un-posted depreciation is already considered as confirm transaction when they compute for the accumulated depreciation to be forwarded next year (as well as net book value beg for next year)
u2022 But as for the no of months (remaining life) u2013 it will only consider the no of posted months when they compute for remaining life of the asset
The current feature of SAP affecting our enhancement request is as follows
1) Manual depreciation is currently validates manual depreciation based on Planned depreciation instead of Posted depreciation
2) Remaining life computation for next year depreciation is based on posted transaction only
3) When user wants to fully depreciate the asset, we cannot post depreciation based on remaining un-posted depreciation using manual depreciation
Based on this feature we want to request for the following enhancement
1) For the remaining un-posted depreciation (especially if the previous year is already close), we should be able to choose which month we want to post the un-posted depreciation
2) Since the remaining life computation is based on posted depreciation only, 1) the validation and 2) the net book value forwarded next year should also be based on posted depreciation
We have a sample computation based on current feature VS the suggested computation for SAP. Is there any way for us to import the file here at the forum? We will wait for your advice
Regards,
Amy

Dear Kyriakos,
is this prior year closed in FI-AA already? If so, how were you able to close this fiscal year? This should be found as error by the fiscal year close report.
If the prior fiscal year is not closed, then you can either change the depreciation key to a non-calculating one (e.g. 0000) or set a shutdown indicator for the complete fiscal year. This should reduce the planned depreciation to zero. No posting or G/L entry is necessary therefor.
If the prior fiscal year should be already closed in FI-AA (still I would be wondering how you did that), you could use the solution provided in [SAP Note 29694|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/29694].
Hope this helps,
Markus

• Depreciation on revaluated fixed asset

Dear Experts,
I have revaluated fixed assets. My query is that, while posting depreciation on this revaluated FA, the depreciation should be calculated from the asset value date mentioned in the master record of the fixed asset or system should calculate depreciation from the asset value date mentioned in the 'revaluation posting transaction'? How it is calculated in the general practise in asset acccounting? This depreciation should be calculated on the new acquisition and production cost.
Please help
Thanks and regards
Aniruddha.

DEAR
if you using AB01
the config for posting revaluation in book dep area 01 is as follows:
> in the dep area 01 mark fields, revaluation, transfer of reserve and rev ord dep as all values allowed.
>in specify intervell and posting rule mark revaluation button on.
>AO90 assign the gl account in the asset classes which have to be revalued in assign g/l accounts area.
> if going for one time rev .give seperate rev measure.in define rev measure screen.
> post revaluation in abaw.
> while running afab the amount will get posted make sure it is planned posting run
MAKE SURE THIS FACT AB01 INCREASES YOUR BOOK VALUE BY REVALUED AMOUNT. BUT IF YOU WANT NEW VALUATION POST NEW VALUATION THROUGH AR29N
if you using AR29N go to new valuation of asset tab.
for using that you 1st need to create a transaction type in AO73 with credit transaction, doc type --aa , post gross ,do not post to affiliated company. go back and limit transaction to dep area.
define reval measure
now revaluate asset in AR29N

• Depreciation On Retired Fixed Assets

Need assistance in troubleshooting an error reported during depreciation process. Error occurs when starting the process "GAINS/LOSS" section of the run. It reports error in CCID for a particular asset which has been retired due to sales. We've checked already checked all set-up relating to depreciation & retirement, which looks ok. Process goes through without error when we "unretire" the asset.
Any suggestions on what else to look out for?
WY Yap (m'sia)

Hi
Th reason for this is that retirement (scrapping) is calculated
as netbook value - less planned depreciation from the start fiscal year
until date of retirement) disregarding depreciation runs for the
period
Note 1162647 it does not explain this particular scenario
but in general refers that retirement is based on calculation on
planned annual values
Example:
Fixed asset values
start fiscal year 2008 (start 01/01/2008) is 1200
the useful life is 24 months = 50 to be depreciated per month
last depreciation run was for period 01/2008 , meaning the
netbook value was after that 1150 =(1200 - 50)
Then post retirement (total scrap) on 01/06/2008
The system will do retirement for the values calculated for the year
950  = (1200- 250 ) being 250 = 50 * 5 months (from start fiscal year
until date of retirement)
The depreciations will also being calculated and executed from
start fiscal year until date of retirement)
If this is not the case, I am afraid that you have to log a message on Sap portal for the assistance.

• Fixed Assets - Depreciation on inactive fixed assets

Hi,
We have retired items after initial asset take on due to the customer wanting to change their numbering series.
The items have been retired and are shown as inactive, but when executing a depreciation run it still calculates depreciation for these items.
Now we gather that we did the retirements while in transfer mode and this might be the reason.
Any ideas as how to fix this?
We are running on FA PL80.
Thanks

• Error While Running Depreciation in Oracle Fixed Asset

APP-OFA-48400: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:

Number of successes: 0

Module Generate Accounts ended with error
and all the following processes completes with error.
Please help, what can be the problem?

Hi
It seems that one of the patch has not been applied properly.
You get this error from the package FA_MASSADD_PKG, so you could put some debug to see where you get it exactly or check the patches where patch includes file FAMAPTB.pls.

• Posting Depreciation for last year in the current year

Hi,
We have a situation in which we have to book depreciation for assets that were put into service since last year in the current year. The depreciation expense was accrued and reported when the year was closed out. However SAP wouldnt allow us to calculate the depreciation for anything before 01/01/2009. The assets were put into service in July of last year and hence we need to post 6 months of depreciation that we accrued last year in this posting period (when we will be capitalizing those assets). How do we go about doing this?
Here is what we tried:
1. Manual Depreciation: Doesnt work. The depreciation key we are using (LINA) doesnt allow manual depreciation
2. Changing the ordinary dep start date: You can change this date to last year but it wont calculate the depreciation from last year. It just starts the useful life from last year. The depreciation that is being caught up starts from 01/01/2009
3. Unplanned Depreciation: This is not an option because it goes to a different G/L account. The client wants it to be in the regular depreciation expense account only.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi,
So far my knowledge goes there is no way wherein you can capitalise assets in currnet year and account for dep from the previous year unless you go for post capitalisation vide ABNAN.Let me try to explain it by the following example.
FY: April to March
APC 10000/
Rate od dep 10%
Ord dep Start 01.10.08.
Asset capitalisation date 01.10.08 but posted in the system on, say 01.04.09.
Line items for ABNAN
70 Asset A/c 10000
75 Acc Dep 500(on 10000 @ 10% for 6 months)
50 Rev for post capitalisation 9500.
FB60 Line items.
31 Vendor Account 10000
40 Prior per dep 500
40 Rev from post capitalisation 9500.
I do hope you will be able to clear your confussion.
With best wishes

• Posting Depreciation for the previous months

HI Experts,
We got new asset AS100SA capitalized on 28.02.2013 (Fiscal Year Period 4 2014 ) and we want to start depreciation this asset
start from Feb 2014 (Fiscal Year Period 4 2014),
We have run the depreciation for all asset in current Month ( Period 5 2014) , when we try run the depreciation for new asset AS100SA
for the previous months in the Current Period , system prompt error msg : "Period 4 is already posted".
Asset Master Data
when I view the posted values Tab in the Asset Explorer (AW01N), system is showing the planned values beginning period 5 (Fiscal Year = March 2014)
AFAB - Depreciation Run
Period 4 (Previous Month for new asset)
Error Message
kindly advise on this issue. thanks in advance.

Hi Ginee,
Radio button planned posting run can only be choose once per period and when you choose planned posting run you should not specify your asset number.
As for your case, you can run the depreciation (AFAB) by choosing the repeat button (specify your asset number) since you already done the planned posting run for period 4 and after the depreciation posted you can check the posted value tab in AW01N again, system will show the posted value in period 4.
Ex : asset acquisition : 01.01.2014, in AW01N it start with period 2 but the depreciation start from period 1.
run AFAB with this parameter
AW01N after AFAB

• Automatic settlement rule for receiver 'Fixed asset' (with out IM)

Hi Experts
I am working with project settlement to a fixed asset.
I have defined a selttlement profile in which, FXA is the only valid receiver.
Please note that we do not use Investment managent and hence no automatic AUC.The predefined asset to be used for settlement.
In this situation i am unable to generate settlement rule automatically as like the case with CTR.
The below message is experienced.
"Enter a distribution rule for Asset without a validity limit"
However i have manually maintained the settlement rule with specification of appropriate asset as receiver and settled.
In this scenario, how to ensure that the settlement rule is automatically generated, any where can we refer the fixed asset?
warm regards
ramSiva

Hi,
Settlement rule cannot be automatically maintsined, you have to maintain manually, for example if you want to settle to fixed asset, how the system know to which fixed asset it should settle. You have to maintain settlement parameter manually.

• Full depreciation for low value assets

Hi Gurus,
How to set up depreciation key of low value assets to get asset fully depreciated irrespective of depreciation start date.
For example :
Asset No : xxxxxxx xx
APC : 5000 INR
Dep. Key : xxx (100% Depreciation)
O.Dep.Start Date : 14/05/2006
In the above case depreciation was calculated only for 322 days
But I need to calculate depreciation for 365 days ie 100%.
Please advice.
Best regards

There is a standard depreciation key with description LVA 100%. i am not sure if dep key is GWG or something else.

• How to reverse the posted depreciation for a particular period..?

Hi Experts,
Please solve my problem, that my client users are changed the depreciation key in last month as per legal requirement. While changing the depreciation key they select the wrong depreciation key and run the depreciation in AFAB. But after running the depreciation they came to know that amount is wrong because of the wrong depreciation key. So now they want reverse the entry for last month only and post the new entry with changed depreciation key.
Please give me advise how to reverse depreciation for only Last month. That should effect the all previous posting.
Regards
Narendra

Hi,
Depreciation Posted of only of the Previous Fiscal years
can be reversed using ABZU Write-Up.
ABZU -->Reverse the Past
Dep. For current depreciation reversal you have no alternative except reversing
co code depreciation document posted using OAGL and then repost it.

• Stop depreciation of a Fixed Asset

dear all
my client wants to stop depreciation of some assets due to impairement, so when i change the depreciation type of those assets to No Depreciation it cancells all the depreciation has been done for the current fiscal year. is there anyway i can handle this.
thanks in advance
kanishka

The best way for you is to restore from your latest backup. Otherwise you might have to take more time to find the deleted information. The longer the time laps, the harder the restore.
Thanks,
