Ntfs write not working

when i try to write to my windows partition, it says "Operation not permitted" and "Permission denied" even as root!  Here's my fstab!
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs defaults,umask=0,rw 0 0
It works fine with captive-ntfs, but not with the write ntfs i compiled in the kernel![/code]

In the present version of the NTFS utilities, it is not possible to write to NTFS partitions.  DO NOT WRITE TO THE NTFS PARTITION: You risk VERY serious damage to your NTFS partition if you write to it.
For more information about NTFS utilities, see:
Linux-NTFS Project
http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/misc.html
WRT: Writing to NTFS volumes, here's a quotation from the FAQ at this site:
"3.2 Can the Driver write to an NTFS volume, too?
Not really, but if you only need to copy files from Linux to Windows on a dual-boot machine, see "How to write to NTFS" below for a possible way to work around the lack of write support. For write support in Linux, read on.
There are two drivers, currently. The original driver, in 2.4 has some write code in it, but it is extremely dangerous to use it. The possibility of destroying your filesystem is very high.
The new driver, introduced in 2.5.11, has some write code, but it's very limited. The driver can overwrite existing files, but it cannot change the length, add new or delete existing files.
Adding write support will take a long time. NTFS is built like a database. Any changes you make, necessitate making changes in many places, for consistancy. Make a mistake and the filesystem will be damaged, make too many mistakes and the filesystem will be destroyed. Also, the current developers are only working on NTFS as a hobby, during their free time. If you'd like to help, please email me: [email protected]
How to write to NTFS. If you are using a dual-boot machine and just need NTFS write support to transfer files from Linux to Windows, you can instead use a Windows driver for ext2/ext3 and, while running Windows, read the files from the Linux partition instead. This way, using two read-only drivers, you can still copy files from one file system type to the other."

  • Ntfs permission not working

    Hello Experts,
    Good morning. Thanks in advance.
    Please let me know why NTFS permission is not working in the below cases.
     Case 1- Created a folder Home in DC   "C:\Home"
                   Permission setEveryone group Deny
    to the home folder.
     When a user called test3 login to the domain and access the home folder gets the reply
    Z:\ is not accessible
        Access
     is denied
                  It means NTFS permission is working fine.
    CASE 2- Now permission sets Deny  to test3 user for that Home folder.
    When user test3 log in to the domain and he is able to access the Home folder how is it possible. It means NTFS permission is not working properly.
    Regards
    Biswajeet

    Hi Biswajeet,
    What happens that if the user test3 logs off then logs back on? Is he/she able to access the folder then?
    I suggest you also create new folder and new accounts to test this.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • CRio 9014, 9116 and 9870 - serial write not working

    Hi,
    I am trying to read string from the text file and write to the serial port on 9870. The string are being read fine, they are getting in the Write_FIFO, the wait on IRQ passes all the bytes to the serial port. BUT I am struck, because there is nothing coming out of the serial port. I tried using scope to see if there is any signal, but there was not any. I have attached the FPGA and Host side of the program for any quick suggestions.
    Can some body please help? I will appreciate it a lot.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    I talked to an NI help, and they suggested to try and work out the serial loopback example. I tried to implement that and at the end of the run, the execution drops no errors but i do see the timed out indicator going true for the read part of the program. I have tried everything i know of, I will appreciate any help. I have attached the FPGA and host programs if anybody wants to check it. The digital output channels were used just see if the sequence structure runs, and it does run fine.
    Thanks,

  • VISA Read Timeout and VISA Write not working

    I'm writing a program that sets a triangle wave pattern voltage (using Triangle Wave VI) to a DC power source (GWInstek PST-3202) through a RS-232 connection.  I know my instrument parameters are set up correctly because I've been able to control this power source using a different VI with the same parameters.  I also know I am connected to the power source because I can talk to it using MAX.  I have a string indicator before my VISA Write statement that shows me the command being sent to VISA Write.  It shows the correct syntax for setting a voltage on this instrument.  However, when I run the VI, the voltage is not changed on my instrument, even though the correct command is sent to the instrument.  After the VISA Write operation I have inserted a VISA Read function in order to read the newly set voltage from both a numeric and a waveform indicator.  Using the Error Out cluster I am able to see that there is a timeout error from VISA Read.  I thought perhaps I needed to clear or flush the buffer after each Read statement, but that didn't work either.  I'm stumped as to why VISA Write isn't writing to the device.  I have included my VI below, as well as the initialization subVI for the power supply.

    Yep, you need to append the End of Line character to the end of your command.  And for your read to work properly, you need to request the data.  That requires a querry command to be sent.  Look closely at the differences in command and communication structures between your working VI and your mod.

  • ImageIO.write not working for GIF files

    Hi, I downloaded the JAI Image IO tools which contains a class called
    com/sun/media/imageioimpl/plugins/gif/GIFImageWriter
    I am able to save png files using just the ImageIO apis and without the JAI.
    But for GIF images, I read in the forum that the JAI has a writer. Though
    the JAI documentation doesn't explicitly mention support for GIF writing,
    seeing this class in jai_imageio.jar, I thought I could write the GIF files.

    I had to create a BufferedImage with IndexColorModel
    to be able to save it as a GIF file.
    Then it worked. However, I still seem to have a
    problem with the saved image. I opened
    a GIF file and saved it back and I see that the color
    pallette has completely changed.As you know GIF format supports only up to 256 colors. That's why any good GIF encoder should contain a Java Color Quantizer to reduce the number on unique colors. The best solution I've found is the Gif4J PRO (http://www.gif4j.com/java-gif-imaging-gif4j-pro-library.htm). This library very fast and powerful and contains the fastest, most intelligent and qualitative Java color quantizer (http://www.gif4j.com/java-color-quantizer.htm).

  • Truecrypt 7 '--filesystem=ntfs-3g' Option Not Working

    Since upgrading Truecrypt 6.3a-1 -> 7.0-1, the following command:
    truecrypt --filesystem=ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /mnt/tc
    produces this error message:
    Unknown option: ntfs-3g
    The command has worked fine until now.
    Removing the '--filesystem=ntfs-3g' option mounts the volume as W95 FAT32.
    Changing '--filesystem=ntfs-3g' to '--filesystem=ntfs' does not work either.
    Any ideas?

    I have the exact same problem. This is very frustrating since Truecrypt is typically used on NTFS volumes...

  • Write optimized dso - Stand DSO loading by Delta Req by req is not working

    Hi All,
    We have a data flow which has 1st layer having write optimized dso and then we are loading data to Standard DSO.
    We are using Delta DTP to load the data with the option "Get All New Data Request By Request", but it is not working.
    Suppose if  i have 2 requests which are need to update to Standard Dso from Write Optimized Dso, it is updating in single request. We are on SAP BW 701 patch level is 005.
    Please suggest me ....

    Hi Prasanna,
    For reasons of downward compatibility, the system behaves differently for DTPs that were created before "SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Support Package Stack 13"
    DTPs for which the indicator is set only get the first new request, even if there is more than one new source request at the time of processing. This restricts the way in which these DTPs can be used in process chains, because requests accumulate in the source and the target may not contain the current data. The Retrieve Until No More New Data indicator is therefore displayed for these DTPs.
    I Suggest you to set this indicator and activate the DTP.
    If you set the Retrieve Until No More New Data indicator and then activate the DTP, once it completes processing, a DTP request checks whether there are any further requests in the source. If the source contains more requests, a new DTP request is automatically generated and processed. Once the DTP is activated, the indicator is no longer visible in DTP maintenance.
    This applies when the DTP is started by a process chain and also when you start the DTP directly from DTP maintenance.
    The indicator is set by default for new DTPs that get data request by request.
    If you do not select the indicator, the label for the Get All New Data Request By Request indicator changes to Get One Request Only. Once the DTP is activated, only this indicator is displayed in DTP maintenance.
    Regards,
    Sudheer.

  • Java - Write And Read From memory Like CheatEngine ( Writing not working?)

    Hello Oracle Forum
    I came here some time ago to ask about javaFX , i solved all my issues and im right now waiting for javaFx tot ake over swing and hmm, im working on learning LIBGDX to create games in java.
    However, im in need to create an app to change values of memory to fix a bug in an old program that i have, and the only way until now is using cheatEngine, So i decided to take a tutorial and learn how to do that in java.
    Well, im able to read from the memory but the write isnt working somehow... Im posting the code here, if anyone can give me a hint, i would thank and a lot, because theres a community that really needs this app to automate the fix without using cheat engine.

    Hello there,
    this tutorial was exactly what I needed, so thank you.
    Your problem seems to be in this line:
    int writeMemory = writeMemory(writeprocess, address, new short[0x22222222]);
    The problem is, you're creating a new short array with the length of 0x22222222. Which not only results in an java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
    but also, if it would work, would create an empty array with the length of 0x22222222.
    I think you want to write 0x22222222 as value in your address.
    Correctly stored the code you'd need to write would be:
    short[] sarray = new short[]{(short) 0x22222222};
    But because the value is too long for the short, the value stored in your array would be the number 8738.
    I think, what you want to do is to store the number 572662306, which would be the hex value, stored in an int variable.
    So first of all you need to strip down your hex-value to shorts:
    Short in Java uses 16 Bit = 2 Byte. 0x22222222 -> 0x2222 for your high byte and 0x2222 for your low byte
    So your array would be
    short[] sarray = new short[]{0x2222,0x2222};//notice, that sarray[0] is the lowbyte and sarray[1] the high byte, if you want to store 20 it would be new short[]{20,0} or if you use hex new short[]{0x14,0x00}
    The next part is your writeToMemory Method. If I'm right, the method in the tutorial is a little bit wrong. The right version should be this:
    public static int writeMemory(Pointer process, int address, short[] data) {
      IntByReference written = new IntByReference(0);
      int size = data.length*Short.SIZE/8;
      Memory toWrite = new Memory(size);
      for (int i = 0; i < data.length; i++) {
      toWrite.setShort(i*Short.SIZE/8,
      data[i]);
      boolean b = kernel32.WriteProcessMemory(process, address, toWrite,
      size, written);
      return written.getValue();
    You need to calculate your offset right. And the size of your memory. Maybe you could write this method not with shorts, but with integers. But this should work.
    If you pass your new array to this function, it should write 0x22222222 to your adress. If you read out your toWrite value with toWrite.getInt(0) you get the right value.
    And there is one more thing. In order to write data to a process, you need to grant two access rights:
    A handle to the process memory to be modified. The handle must have PROCESS_VM_WRITE and PROCESS_VM_OPERATION access to the process.
    You have to grant the right to write data: PROCESS_VM_WRITE: 0x0020 and PROCESS_VM_OPERATION: 0x0008
    So your writeProcess needs to get initialized this way:
    Pointer writeprocess = openProcess(0x0020|0x0008,pid);
    I hope this works for you. Let me know.
    Greetings
    Edit:
    Because every data you write will be 1 byte to whatever count of byte I think the best way is to use the following method to write data to the memory:
    public static void writeMemory(Pointer process, long address, byte[] data)
      int size = data.length;
      Memory toWrite = new Memory(size);
      for(int i = 0; i < size; i++)
      toWrite.setByte(i, data[i]);
      boolean b = kernel32.WriteProcessMemory(process, address, toWrite, size, null);
    You can see some changes. First I changed all address values from int to long, because some addresses are out of range. And with all, i mean all. Not only in writeMemory, but also in readMemory and in your kernel32 Class.
    Second I don't use the IntByReference anymore..
    To use this method you need to store your data the following way if you would write 4 Byte data:
    byte[] values = new byte[]{0x14,0x00,0x00,0x00};
    This value would be the number 20. Index 0 will be the lowest byte and index 3 will be the highest byte.
    And one more thing I wrote is an method which you can use to calculate your address if you have a baseAddress.
    If you restart your program/game your old addresses won't point at the same values of your game. With some research (I use CheatEngine) you can get the baseaddress. This one will alway be the same.
    To get from your baseaddress to the dynamic adress you use offsets.
    public static long findDynAddy(Pointer process, int[] offsets, long baseAddress)
      long pointer = baseAddress;
      int size = 4;
      Memory pTemp = new Memory(size);
      long pointerAddress = 0;
      for(int i = 0; i < offsets.length; i++)
      if(i == 0)
      kernel32.ReadProcessMemory(process, pointer, pTemp, size, null);
      pointerAddress = ((pTemp.getInt(0)+offsets[i]));
      if(i != offsets.length-1)
      kernel32.ReadProcessMemory(process, pointerAddress, pTemp, size, null);
      return pointerAddress;
    This methods gets a process, an array of offsets (hex-values) and your baseadress and returns the dynamic address.
    For Solitaire the following code would give you the address to the score:
    long baseAddr = 0x10002AFA8L;
      int[] offsets = new int[]{0x50,0x14};
      long addr = findDynAddy(process, offsets, baseAddr);
    If somebody wants to get the whole code (user32, kernel32 and the cheater) just pm me and I will give you a link.

    It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
    First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
    If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
    As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?
