Number Lock Problem

THe numbers on my numeric keypad have stopped working. I'm using a bluetooth keyboard on the flatscreen G5 imac. There is no "number lock" key -- only a "clear" button, which doesn't seem to do anything. It did work once but recently stopped working. Any idea how to get it back in action? -- Paul

Is it that you enabled Mouse Keys, probably by hitting the Option key five times?
Go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse, turn Mouse Keys off (or on then off), hopefully it works again now.

Number Lock Problem on Satellite Pro L20

We have about 60 Satellite Pro L20s on a network. When the user starts the computer sometimes they start with the number lock on. Its seems to be worse on some that others. This is very annoying as it causes problems with logons.
Is there any way of disabling the number lock function on these laptops?

Your right, the num lock key can be switched on or off by using FN & F11, but I was wondering if there is a way to disable the num lock function entirely.
The problem is that on some of the laptops it is activated at switch on and on some it is not. This is causing problems as we are using windows 2000 network and some uses are becoming confused when they try to login and it fails as a result of having characters in their password that are shared with the number keys. They cannot tell that they are typing the wrong letters as they are obscured.
I appreciate that it is easy to switch off the num lock but as a technician it is creating unnecessary work for me with users repeatedly complaining.

Number lock problems

For some strange reason, my number lock keeps going on and off. For example, when i'm writing an email i'm typing normally and then all of a sudden the number lock turns on. I also tested this by leaving my computer alone for twenty minutes, and when i came back the number lock was on. Is there a way to fix this? Its driving me crazy!

I am having the same problem... but did not know the Num Lock was the problem so THANKS!!!!!
In my situation I am running Solaris 10 x86 and logging in via ssh -X from a FC3 box. When I launch JAVA apps I have the same problem you described. Turning off Num Lock fixed the problem.
And yes other exported apps seem to work fine with num lock on.

Keyboard/ten key number lock

I just purchased a TrackPoint keyboard (55Y9053) and Ten Key (41A5090). When I plug the two into my computer the ten key number lock, locks the number pad on the TrackPoint keyboard. So when I go to type on my keyboard, letter keys I,o,p,j,k,l,n,m,, come out as numbers. Is there a way to get these to products to work together without the number lock from one affecting the number lock on the other? Thanks.

A Num Lock light that stays lit is sometimes a symptom of a deeper problem. Try resetting your Powerbook's Power Management Unit. Does that help? If not, run the Apple Hardware Test from your Powerbook's original Install & Restore DVD, and let us know what AHT reports.

Activation lock problem!

I just got a new iPhone 4s from a friend and I can't get into it because of an activation lock problem. I've already tried to restore it in recovery mode but than I still have to log in to his account. Now i've logged in to his iCloud account and deleted the iPhone using the following instructions:
Sign in to their iCloud account at www.icloud.com/find.
Click All Devices to open a list of devices linked to their account, then select the device to be removed. It should show a gray dot or the word “Offline” next to the device name.
Click "Remove from Account" to remove the device from their account.
But it seems that I have should done the following instructions, because the iPhone wasn't completely erased yet:
Sign in to their iCloud account at www.icloud.com/find.
Click All Devices to open a list of devices linked to their account, then select the device to be removed.
Click the Erase button to erase all content and settings from the device. When prompted, don't enter a phone number or message. Click Next until the device is erased.
When the erase is complete, click "Remove from Account" to remove the device from the account.
The problem is that it's too late for that now, because I already deleted the iPhone from his iCloud... Please help me out here, what can I do to still erase it from iCloud?!

Windows 8.1 number lock on startup

I had to refresh my system and now I cannot have my number lock on upon startup. I have changed the registry initialkeyboard number to 2 and is still not functioning. Please help

I Don't Have Number Lock

I tried to turn off Secure Boot. The i saved and went out of BIOS. Then it gave me this security thing. It told me to do this: Alt + 08705 (or some number like that, not sure exactly). The problem is I don't have number lock. Is there a way to bypass this security thing or do i need to do something about the number lock thing. Please help me, I want to dualboot kali and windows 8

Number Lock for MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro inserts numbers everytime I press the space bar or arrow keys. I have tried pressing F6 but it doesn't work. Is there a number lock key on a MacBook Pro? Any other theories on the problem?

Have you checked over on the Apple online store & Apple resellers plus read the reviews of the security locks?

Number lock behavior

I've had this 15" Powerbook DL for about a year and half now and still have a Powerbook Firewire. I am just noticing lately on the newer Powerbook that when the number lock key is on, I can't type with any other keys than the numeric ones. Is that normal? I would have thought that at least the non-numeric keys would work.
Maybe Powerbooks have always worked like this since at least 2000 when I got my Powerbook Firewire and I'm only noticing it now. I haven't checked that machine to see if it works like that (which runs OS 9.2.2).
(The newer Powerbook had a problem in the past where at times I wouldn't be able to type at all without having turned the number lock key on but that seems to have gone away for the most part, only happening so infrequently I don't think about it if it happens at all. The keyboard was replaced but that did not fix it.)

Yes it's normal for the other keys to not type anything when the numlock key is on.
With regards to the function of the numlock key being inverted, ie when it's on you can type normally, I have seen this resolved by a re-install of the OS. Since the keyboard has already been replaced I would try that.

Number lock? and scrollpad

I wondered if anyone knew if there was a way to do number lock on the macbook. I had it on my iBook and used it all the time. Also, does anyone else have problems scrolling with 2 fingers? Mine is really jumpy when I try to scroll slowly. Thanks!!

On my first-gen MacBook, I believe F6 (probably with Fn or something) was NumLock, and there was an LED to show its status. I don't see that on my Santa Rosa MacBook.

Number lock acts like a laptop .....

Odd problem only noticed recently, if I use number lock on my desktops keyboard the right side of qwerty keyboard acts like a number pad [laptop style!]
Of course I can just turn off number lock.....
Wondered if anyone else had noticed this? did a quick search on forums but nothing stands out

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1. Many users thing that have a 3G when they really have a 2G iPod.

Number lock key (F6) won't unlock

I don't remember pressing this key down, but it is locked and the green light is on...and I can't unlock it no matter how many times I push it or hold it down. So, the keyboard will only type numbers right now
I tried rebooting, but it didn't reset.
I also tried going to preferences and resetting the keyboard to default, but that didn't work either.
This is basically the first problem I've had with the computer in 3.5 years.
Any suggestions on how to 'unlock' the number lock?

Bios/number lock light

first i wanted to update my bios from 1.0 to 1.6. I have a problem with the number lock light comes on after system is off for an hour or so dont know exactly how long but i didnt think that should happen.

Caps Lock and Number Lock reversal

I installed the software update this morning and now I have to have caps lock on and number lock on to type in lower case. While this is obviously not a major problem it is a little annoying. Are there any other answers other than reinstall the software update?

It might be worth a shot resetting the PRAM/NVRAM.
