Number of Content Areas Limitation?

Has anyone encountered any issues with using a large number of Content Areas? Because of how we want to set-up our categories, we are considering using 20+ Content Areas. I'm interested in hearing any pros/cons that people have experienced.

We have also encountered this warning. What we did was to use just two JCO users (program IDs) for LCRSAPRFC and SAPSLDAPI SM59 Type T e.g LCRSAPRFC_UNICODE and SAPSLDAPI_UNICODE.

    Is it possible to limit the file uploaded as an item in the content area/folder ?

    Its a benign error. It has to do with flexible parameter passing. You can ignore it.
    Recently I have been receiving the following error in my apache error log file...It tells me to refer to the doc for ways around this issue...I am unable to locate any doc on this issue. I have looked in the iAS plsql doc as well. Now this comes and goes as well. For the most part clients can upload files successfully, but once and a while this error occurs.   • Navigation  should be limited only to content area

    Hello,
    I am importing roles from ECC into the portal.
    The transactions are getting displayed in the content area of the portal.
    However I would like to  traverse forward and backward only for the content displayed in the content area.
    Likewise I would also like to display a save button in the masthead (or in the page title bar) so that the transactions displayed in the content area get saved using the button in the masthead , instead of using the regular F3 +CtrlS.
    I would also prefer to have forward and backward buttons for traversal of content viz; transactions in the content area.
    Can anyone suggest me the possible alternatives to implement the above functionalities.

    Can somebody tell me how to create a(Content area) folder based on a PL/SQL procedure that takes a variable as a

    Somewhere, in one procedure, build a session identifier and save your variable there. If no session with that identifier is previously stored, it will create a new session instance with that ID for you.

    In your other procedure, or anywhere else needed within that same session, simply load the session and reference the variable. To reference the variable, use the following.

  • Problem with Checking In/Out Items in Content Area

    I've been reading the Portal On-Line help pages in regards to
    checking in/out items. The help states that when an item is
    checked out, the item is locked and a message "Checked out by:
    UserName" is displayed next to the item. When I check out an
    item, I do not see this "Checked out by" message. However, I do
    see the checkout icon. Note - I am doing this through the
    Content Area Navigation page. Is there something that I am
    missing? (I have seen other threads in regards to the
    checkin/checkout icons not displaying when the Content Area is
    published as a portlet. We are having this problem as well.)
    However, the lack of the "checked out" message happens in both
    the Content Area Navigator and the published portlet.
    Also, is there a way to get Portal to automatically generate
    version numbers when a new version of an item is created. I see
    that you can create a unique name or description .... but I'd
    like to have Portal generate the version number for me. This is
    done in the Application component section when you build forms,
    menus, or reports.

    The "checked out by" message only appears to other users - you
    won't see it if you are the user who checked out the item.
    The version number is planned for a future release.

  • Table expands outside of the content area in a tabbed panel - sometimes

    I am using a tabbed panel to create several different views of a database. The system is working pretty well, the only problem I have is that the content for almost all of the tabbed panels extend beyond the right hand end of the content panel. The page is here www.mwlcraftshow.com/gordo.php and you'll see that when you select the "Declined" tab the data shows correctly within the content area, but if you select "Accepted" or "All vendors" the table extends beyond the content panel. I've reviewed the html and css and don't see any difference between the tab that works (Declined) and tabs that don't work (All vendors, Accepted).
    I'd really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

    I see that you are indicating td widths for your tables. If you don't try to dictate widths in tables AND reduce the size of your text, you will have better luck keeping the table on the panel. You might also consider making the live area for the TabbedPanels wider, as well (the whole widget). If you have a limited size monitor, you won't be able to do that.
    The only size you should use on this table is for the table width itself: use 100%, and it will fill the TabbedPanel Content width-wise, and should force the columns to fit (if you take off their widths as I suggested above).
    With tables, absolute width indicators seem only to be a "suggestion" as tables will automatically expand if the content is too much for the content cells. Applying a 100% width for the table as a whole should force the cells to expand down and not horizontally.

  • Export of items in a content area

    We have items of type image in a content area. In the
    browser the image url appears as follows:
    /pls/portal30/docs/1234.gif
    When migrating content areas does the item content
    also get migrated (eg: the image file) and also
    are the appended numbers eg: 1234.gif and itemids
    kept the same in the new instance or are they changed.
    Also is the correlation between the image and the number
    maintained in the new instance.

  • How to zip files in a content area

    Hi!!
    We have a lot of documents in a content area, and every day the number of documents is going up. The question is, if we can zip these documents or something similar.

    If you're asking about compressing the files in the repository, or adding a bunch of items to a zip file, neither of these features are currently available.
    You would have to download the files, add them to a zip on the desktop, and then upload the new zip file.

  • SAPUI5 Application doesn't display in Portal Content Area

    Hallo Guys
    We are developing a SAPUI5 application that needs to be displayed inside the portal.
    The problem is that the SAPUI5 app doesn't display in in the content area, no erors, just a blank page, you have to set the iview to open in a seperate headerless window, then it works. But it needs to work in the content area.
    Our findings: a possible cause is that the IE mode when inside the Portal content area is IE5 Quirks, and when it displays in a new window, the mode changes to a more recent and acceptable mode for SAPUI5, IE9.
    Is there any solution to this? We get the same result with both URL iView and using the SAPUI5 iView in content provided by SAP. We are on NW 7.4

    Hi Antonette,
    As Lawrence explained the reason is indeed that quirks and standards mode can't run together on the same page (not only in portal but it's a limitation by MS).
    Since your framework page is in IE5 quirks mode the UI5 application doesn't run in the content area, you can run it by selecting in the iView properties "Launch in a new headerless window (strandards)", that will open the UI5 application in a new window and will work.
    If you wish to run UI5 applications in the content area you can get latest SP of 7.4 and there you will have a new framework page: standards AFP, basically an AFP framework page that works in standards mode.
    In that framework page you can run UI5 applications in the content area, however trying to run old applications (HTMLB, not WD) may fail, for WD you have a paramater you need to pass called sap-ie, passing it with the value of "Edge" will make sure WD applications run in standards mode as well.
    When running the AFP in standards mode you will need to open your HTMLB and other old applications in a new headerless window or new window so you can see the content.

    from content areas. These views are documented in the PDK. For
    folders, use the view WWSBR_ALL_FOLDERS.

  • Switching Content Area Portlet Edit/View Mode

    I am trying this question again since I did not get responses to my first try.
    The current Content Area Portlet included with Portal 3.0.8 works fine except that it does not include the "Main Banner" nor the "Sub Banner". This means that portlet users do not have access to either the "Edit/View folder" function nor the current folder name.
    My customer would like some users to have item upload capability. What are my choices without these banners? I can access the content area in "full page" mode and have the banners available. But this is undesirable since we would like the content area to stay "in the portlet" in order to maintain portal context.
    I might be able to switch the edit/view function from another portlet on the same page if I pass the p_edit and p_mode parameters to redraw the multiple portlet page correctly. I have tried passing p_edit using the portlet reference path "&162_KCPCONTENTAREA_6429252.p_edit=1", but the Content Area Portlet does not respond. What else do I need to do? Is this even possible?

  • Unable to create content area item for RDF-report

    According to white paper "Security tips in Oracle Reports Services (release 6i with Portal 3.0)" I'm trying to integrate an Oracle Reports 6i RDF-module in my portal.
    All goes well including running the report from de reports definition file.
    However, when I want to create an item in the content area referencing the report, the report-application is not visible in the lov Application Components. The only aplication component I'm offered is "PEOPLE_APP: People".
    Perhaps the following problems are related to this problem:
    1) When looking for applications in the Portal Navigator, the report-application is missing in the applications list. However, after using the Find...-option the application is shown. Should report-definitions been shown ?
    2) After installing rwwwvins.sql the package body WWV_RW_SB is invalid with errormessage "PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to SET_SSO_SESSION".
    Can anybody help ?

    One problem solved...
    It appears that I should have stated the application as "Expose as Provider". After doing that the report appeared in the lov.
    Unfortunately one problem still remains. The package WWV_RW_SB has errors causing the parameterform to fail. I've rerun the rwwwvins-script but the package body stays invalid.

    This really brings up a larger topic around change management.
    The questions you should start with is
    1. What kind of change is happening to the raw material? 
    2. Will this change affect anything upstream inside or outside of PLM4P? (Will this change affect nutrition, compliance, the ingredient statement, the label etc?)
    3. Who needs to approve this change?
    If they are non-material changes (changes that don't affect theoretical calculations, the ingredient statement, labeling, upstream systems that need to be notified etc) then you should be using get latest revision instead of global succession.   Get Latest Revision will automatically switch out the material with the latest approved version.  This logic is also configurable in case you need to add additional guard conditions.   We can also provide guidance around locking the get latest revision lock once a specification has reached the retired/obsolete state so changes won't occur for specifications in those statuses.
    If the changes to the raw material are material changes (changes that affect calculations, labeling etc) then the change should be reflected with a copy of the specification.  Dependent specifications then need to be re-issued so calculations can be performed and the appropriate workflow reviews can occur.   Smart Issue allows for filtering based on status and should let you re-issue in smaller blocks. 
    Let me know more about your change management strategy, how often large material changes happen and maybe example causes for those mass changes.  We can also schedule a change management training session for everyone where we can share our vision and tools available for change management.  This topic is quite large and generally requires a lot of business process discussion beyond just the tools available.

    Does anyone know of a product similar to Inxight Software's Star Tree product for static web sites that will provide a graphical representation of content area navigation within Portal?

    We have figured out how to do this now, this is the code that we used to put an arrow in the content area that took you up to the parent folder, this code was in a dynamic page published as a porlet:

    Does anyone know of a way to programmatically modify an item that has been created with approval so that it is approved?
    I am trying to integrate a workflow process to item addition in content areas so that the final step is to programmatically approve it(thus making it appear in the folder). The publicly available API procedures/functions to modify/create an item do not specify a way to approve as well.

    I havent heard of this problem..
    There is a bug in using LOVs in content area where in the LOV's dont appear if the number of rows are huge.
    Have you tried creating an LOV using scott.emp and using it .....
    Pl. mention the exact steps where in you are facing this problem, havent come across this .
