Number of irf (integer register file) reading ports, 3 or 4??

All T1 documents indicate that irf (integer register file) has 3 reading ports. But when reading through its rtl model bw_r_irf.v, I have to raise the doubt that it actually has 4 reading ports physically, which are r1, r2, r3 and r3h. Even though the addresses of r3 and r3h are very close, they are different by the lowest bit in the rtl. In physical implementation, you have to use a different ports for different addresses. So my question is:
1. Is T1 irf implemented with 4 ports physically or I miss-understand the problem?
2. What's the use for that extra port 3h?

Hi,
The register file is implemented such that, when doing a read, only 4 high bits of the address got decoded, so content of two neighboring register got read out. For port 1 and 2, the lowerst bit of the address is used to select which one goes to the output.
RTL for port rs1, rs2 and rs3 are identical but implementation could be how you describe above. ie. using lowest bit of address to mux select which output goes out.
However for port3, the lowerst bit of the address is not used(even thouth it exists in RTL), so the content of both registers goes to the output, the data from the even register goes to port 3 while the data from the odd register goes to port 3h
All five bits of address are used for port3 in RTL, lowest bit is hardcoded to 1 for the port 3h. For double-store the lowest bit has to be zero (double word/even register alignment). For single word store, port3 can access either odd or even address (same mechanism as port1 and port2) and lower 32bits of port3 will be the same as port3h.
Thanks.

  • T1 integer register file

    Need some help regarding how the T1 irf works.
    From bw_r_irf.v, during a SWAP operation, apparently during 1 cycle, 8 registers need to move from the "active_window" reg to "globals" reg. If I understand correctly, "active_window" is made up of rf cells, and "globals" is made up of sram cells. To move 8 registers (8x72 bits) from one memory structure to another memory structure in 1 cycle seems to require a lot of hardware (8 read ports and 8 write ports). Could anyone explain to me how this SWAP is really accomplished? Thanks,
    James
    always @ (posedge clk) begin
    if (swap_global_d1_vld) begin
    for (i = 6'd0; i < 6'd8; i = i + 1) begin
    active_pointer[6:0] = {global_tid_d1[1:0], i[4:0]};
    regfile_pointer[7:0] = {1'b0, global_tid_d1[1:0], old_agp_d1[1:0], i[2:0]};
    // prevent back to back swaps on same thread
    if (swap_global_d2 & (global_tid_d1[1:0] == global_tid_d2[1:0])) begin
    globals[regfile_pointer[6:0]] = {72{1'bx}};
    end
    else globals[regfile_pointer[6:0]] = active_window[active_pointer[6:0]];
    end
    end

    Thanks. Finally understood some of the wordings in the megacell doc. In every register cell, there are 9 bits, 1 for active_window, 8 for architecture window. This is a very clever way of implementing the SWAP operation.

  • Counting number of files read by File adapter

    I have configured a file adapter in a BPEL prcs to read files from a location. The adapter is polling files with a specific file ext(say txt). Is it possible to know the number of files read by the BPEL prcs at the end of the day??? i,e.
    is it possible that a BPEL instance after reading a file updates the count in a variable and this variable value is seen by other BPEL instances and the other instances can also update the value....
    Any pointers will be helpful...
    Thanks

    You could make use of some logtable and log it inhere.
    In the bpel after a file is pickup up, read this value from the table, add 1 to it, and write it back.
    Or try this approach from Lucas :

  • File Read and Extract

    Hi,
    I have a script which runs and generates log files. Rather than manually read through these log files, I'd like to code a program which will take the file, read through it and extract the data I wish to extract.
    For example, it may read:
    bla bla bla
    bla bla bla
    23/03/05 - 151105 Files
    bla bla bla
    23/03/05 - Elapsed Time: 3m 50s
    bla bla bla
    24/03/05 - 51250981502 files
    bla bla
    24/03/05 - Elapsed Time: 59m 12s
    bla bla
    etc etc.
    So I want to ignore the "bla bla bla", pick out my keywords, such as file, time and print out the number next to it, preferably to a nice little html file or something :)
    I am able to read files and I think I can pick out keywords using string tokenizers, although this is more advanced than tokenizers I've used before. I used a buffer to split the file and read it line by line.
    I'm pretty stumped, although this seemed like a straight forward thing to do at the time....
    Any advice to get me going?
    Thanks!

    you could use a reg ex to match on xx/xx/xx and still read line by line.
    or you could use Integer.parseInt and always parse the first two characters of a line, if they parse they are integers, but maybe blah has integers in the first two positions as well.

  • File Read and Byte Conversion Efficiency

    Im working on a program that needs to store WAV data.
    2 unsigned bytes Little Endian -> signed Short
    this is my code:
    fis = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(file), 1764000);
    for(int x = 0; x < wav.samples; x++){
    fis.read(byte2);
    wav.left[i] = (short)b2LEtoInt();
    public int b2LEtoInt(){
    i += (int)(byte2[1] & 0xff) << 8;
    i += (int)(byte2[0] & 0xff);
    if(i > 32767){ i -= 65536; }
    return i;
    }I set the buffer size to 1,764,000 bytes because that is fairly
    large and it is 10 seconds of 44100 16bit stereo WAV data.
    Reading 79,161,264 takes 8282 ms
    Waiting 8 seconds for almost 8 mins of WAV data isnt horrible
    but its markedly worse than WaveLAB or CoolEditPro etc that can
    load the same data and graph it pretty much as quickly as i can
    drag the file onto the screen.
    Is this a Java vs Native code speed problem or a design problem?
    Does anyone have any tips to speed up this loading process?
    I dont know if thats the best 2 byte little endian to short conversion.
    I dont know if im using the right reader / buffersize.
    I dont know how programs like WaveLAB work with wavs.
    Do they load them into memory completely? Are the graphs
    images that are then zoomed into or are they redrawn every
    time you move them?
    Anyone have any expert advice?

    is this right...
    the buffered reader grabs 1,765,000 bytes from the
    file automatically,
    read(byte[]...) then reads [x] many bytes from the
    reader?Yes but if your byte array has only 2 elements this read method will be called (1,765,000 /2) times and that was the problem. You can reduce by increasing the size of the array.
    What the buffered reader does is it minimze the IO blocks which will occure when you actualy read file from the disk buy redusing the niumber of Disk IOs.
    and also read method does not gurrantee that the exact number of bytes that you specify is read from the stream by read method
    (Read the java documentation of InputStream.read(byte[],int,int))
    it says that the maximum number of bytes that will be read is what you specified but the actual number read may be less than that and that depending on the implementation.
    read method return an integer value which is the actuall number of bytes I think you should get it in to a variable and use when processing

  • How to count number of lines in a file?

    I am using a BufferedReader to read my file, but I like to know how to count the number of lines in a file is there a way to do that in Buffered Reader or do I have to use FileInputLineStream?

    Well, if you know how to read one line with a Buffered reader, and you know how to keep reading lines until you run out, then all you have to to is initialize a counter to zero before you start reading, add 1 to it each time you read a line, and then examine its value when you're done.
    Try that, and post again if you get stuck.
    Just be careful how you construct your loop. "Off by one" errors are a common way to get bitten. It could happen if you count what you think is the last line, but you've actually already counted all the lines and you end up counting one extra for "there are no more lines".

  • Synchronous File Read on Invoke Problem

    I am trying to invoke file adapter to read the file once(Synchronous File Read) as described in Bpeltechadapter guide.
    Read about Synchronous File Reading Capability here download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/bpel/bpeltechadp.pdf
    Also read this: Re: Help! Three questions about FileAdapater. .
    I get this process generation failed when i try to build it. The Empty_msg in inputvariable of invoke works but problem is with Charges_msg in output variable.
    I am sure its something to do with ns but not getting it to work.

    I cant do this from EM because SOA server is failing to start up.
    I have tried removing it from $DOMAIN_HOME/deployed-composites but still when i try restarting the soa server the composite comes up there. Do we need to delete the entry some where else too. Kindly help.
    Thanks,
    Sri.

  • HT2452 My iMac was stolen the receipt doesn't have the serial number but I did register the computer when I purchased it how do I get the serial number

    My iMac was stolen the receipt doesn't have the serial number but I did register the computer so Aplle must have a record of it. How do I get it.

    Go to the Apple website and your support profile. It should list that iMac and the serial number for it. You'll need your Apple ID and password for that Apple ID.

  • Determine the number of records in a file

    I want to analyse record types from a large input file and so far have managed to extract different groups and created the relevant files. All I want to do now is count the number of records in each file so I can produce a report showing the different types but cannot figure out how to do this, I know it will be simple but I cannot get any command to accomplish this, help please!

    in applescript, there are a few ways to count patterned text.  if (as jeffrey suggests) each record is a separate line, then you can use the following:
    set textContents to read "/path/to/file.txt"
    count of paragraphs of textContents
    if records are determined by some other process (such as a special delimiting character or phrase) you can use text items (replace the @ sign with the special character or phrase):
    set textContents to read "/path/to/file.txt"
    set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, "@"}
    set theCount to count of text items of textContents
    set my text item delimiters to oldTID

  • PDF does not remain in the Registered file types list

    I've installed Adobe Reader X. The PDF file type was not automatically associated with Adobe Reader. So, I went through the standard process of adding it to the Windows Registered file types. It does not remain in the list. I've checked the box to "Always use the selected program.....", but when I reopen the Registered File types window, PDF is not there. PDFX is there and registered to open with Adobe Reader, but not PDF.

    I forgot to mention, I'm running Windows XP SP3.
