Numbering and table cells

I want to have auto list numbering continuing down a column in a table, but I can't find a way to do this. Despite having 'continue numbering' ticked in the inspector for the style I've applied, ,the numbers restart with each row.
IE
I want
1. r1,c1 r1,c2
2. r2, c1 r2, c2
3. r3, c1 r3, c2
4. r4,c1 r4, c2
... but I'm getting...
1. r1,c1 r1,c2
1. r2, c1 r2, c2
1. r3, c1 r3, c2
1. r4,c1 r4, c2
Is there a way to do this? There is in Word but you know, it's Word....

I guess that'll be a 'no' then...

  • Numbering Across Table Cells

Hello expert users, my first post here,
I have a table that has four columns. The cells in the first column should be numbered. I have set up a style with tiered numbers (which is the numbering I need). Each cell, however, carries number 1, although the option "Continue from previous" is selected. Does Pages not support numbering across table cells, does it restart numbering in each cell by default?

You didn't understand the way lists behaves.
They apply to a chunk of text.
A cell's contents is a chunk of text and the list tool may apply in a given cell.
You are trying to apply numbering to several cells.
They aren't A chunck of text but several ones.
The list tool treats them separately and logically it starts from 1 in evey chunck.
Numbering rows is quite easy if we take time to read the User Guide.
    Type 1 in cell A1
    Type 2 in cell A2
select both cells then drag to the bottom the circular handle available at bottom of cell A2.
With iWork '09 there is a new feature.
    Type a1 in cell A1
select the cell and drag the circular handle to the bottom.
    You will get
    a1
    a2
    a3
    a4

  • Margin and Table Cell Question

    Hi,
The main banner at the top of each page changes it's position
when I view it in the browser. For example, on this page it is okay
    http://www.foryourbackyard.com.au/products.htm
Though this page the banner slips down a touch.
    http://www.foryourbackyard.com.au/sheds.htm
    Any ideas welcome.
Also on this site the table cells seem to have a gap at the
bottom of the roll over image.

    I'm not sure why.
    Thank in advance.

For anybody who might stumble on this in the future looking for an answer to the same or a similar question, I figured this out with the help of Andreas Kiel and Philip Buckley on the Applescript Studio mailing list. Below is the answer.
Given a data source named "D" and table columns named "bc1" and "bc2" (both of which contain a checkbox style button cell), this is the syntax:
tell data source "D" --to check the checkboxes
set content of data cell "bc1" of every data row to true
set content of data cell "bc2" of every data row to true
    end tell
tell data source "D" --to uncheck the checkboxes
set content of data cell "bc1" of every data row to false
set content of data cell "bc2" of every data row to false
    end tell
The problem I was having is that I used the name of the button cell itself in the data cell reference rather than the name of the table column.
    Hope someone finds this useful

  • Numbering each Table cell down a column

Hi I was wondering if there is an easy way to chronologically number the cells descending a
table column so that the numbers will adjust automatically as rows are removed/added. The number should appear within the cell.
This is InDesign CS3 on the Mac leopard OS
    Thanks

Create a paragraph style, enable numbering in it, set the numbering style. Then apply that style to all the cells in the column you want numbered. Finally, you should type a space in each cell to show the number.
This way, your rows are numbered atomatically and updated automatically when you delete rows. When you add new rows you'll have to apply the number style and type a space.

  • Highlighting input field and  table cell column in red colour

    Hi,
I have 4 input fields and a table in my screen. All the input fields are read only.
I have a functionality where I have to highlight a input field with the red colour. In the sense, I have to put a thin Red border over the input field without thowing any errors or messages.
Also, i have to highlight a particular cell in the table. i.e, i have to put Red colour border over the cell of the table for some rows only. Right now i have changed the background colour of the cell for required rows, but i need Red thin border rather than changing the entire background colour.
Please guide me on achieving these functionalities..
    Thanks and Regards,
    -Shabir Rahim.

    Hi,
The red thin lines border you are talking about comes from the framework during the exceptions. If this is the case then refer the following links, hope this will help you.
[Re: Automatic message for inputfields with state=required]
    [Re: Validation of InputField]
Well without exceptions, i dont think it will come.

  • IOS Numbers and Blank Cells

I am a teacher trying to use an iPad with iOS Numbers as a mobile gradebook.
One issue I have is making a blank cell not count in sums and averages. When I enter a new assignment, the student automatically gets a zero until I enter his or her actual grade, which negatively and unfairly affects his or her averages.
Is there a way to skip a blank cell in sums and averages instead of having it automatically count as a zero?
I also have Numbers on a laptop (if that helps).

    Hi,
Thanks for visiting our forum and sharing your solution. It'll benefit to other communicators.
    Have a good time.

  • Figure and Table number out of sequence between chapters

I inherited a lengthy Service Manual consisting of 6 separate files (chapters) that are intended to be consolidated into a book when complete. Page numbering, Figure numbering and Table numbering is supposed to be sequential, but I find when I delete a figure in one chapter, the next figure number in the subsequent chapter is out of order.  I'm new to FrameMaker 10 and can't seem to correct this.
    Please help!
    Margie

I've checked the paragraph tags in each chapter, they appear identical:
    C:\tTable\<><><><n+>\t
What happened is, the preceding chapter became shorter and I noticed the next chapter page numbers started incorrectly. I went to Format, Numbering, and changed the starting number to the correct one.  That's when the Table and figure numbers started renumbering from 1.
I'm thinking it might be better to compile as a book, but I'm getting the "unvailable fonts" message. I've checked every font and they seem to be OK, but there's 150 pages and a zillion tags.  Is there any way to make a global deletion ofo fonts?  I can see the problem fonts screened back iin the font list.

  • How to change the colour of a table cell boder?

I have just changed from Dreamweaver MX t CS5 and cannot find how to add a colour to the borders of a table and table cells.  In the old MX it was easy just selected the colour for border in properties but in CS5 this option is not availble.  Have tried formatting with CSS but this only colurs the outer boarder can anyone help?

Not sure what you mean by a custom class would it be possible to give me an example?

  • Adding Cells with numbers and text

I am a real newbie at formulas - so if there is an obvious answer I am sorry.
I am looking to add week numbers for a custom calendar. So in one cell I have Week 1. I am looking to have the following week add 1 to that - but keep the text Week - so we get Week 2. How can I easily go about this? Thanks

    That was interesting!
The most difficult part was getting the calendar to recognize the closing days and make the necessary adjustments. Here's the result for September calendar, with the school year starting September 1 to demonstrate the effect of a closing day inserted after the year begins. (One fitting your year is shown below.)
The small table to the right, "No School" is a one column table listing, in order, the dates (not including Sundays) on which the school will be closed. For periods where the school is closed for 2 or more consecutive days, each day must be included in the list. The table has two header rows and one footer row. As written, the formulas using this table require A1 to contain a non-date value, A2 to contain the date of the day before the first day of school—in the example, August 31, 2011; in your case, September 5, 2011, and the Footer row to contain a date after the last day of school.
The cell displaying the month name, and all cells showing a day number, contain a Date and Time value, with the display determined by two Custom formats, set using the Cell Format inspector. The contents of the cells are used in calculations, and must be Date and Time values, not numbers.
Row 1 is a header row.
The full date for the first of the month to be shown is entered into the center cell in row 1. (This is a merged cell formed from the three cells C1, D1 and E1. Formulas using the value refer to it as C1.)
    G1: =EOMONTH(C1,0)
This returns the date for the last day of the month of the date in C1. The date is used in a conditional formatting rule in the last row of the calendar. It can be hidden by setting the text color of this cell to match its background fill color (white).
Row 2 is a header row, containing the names of the days of the week, using the Sunday to Saturday arrangement to match the illustration linked by the OP. A different starting day will require revisions to some formulas.
    A3: =C1-WEEKDAY(C1,2)
This formula calculates the date of the last Sunday before the date in C1. If you don't like the fact that the "2" displays as "Monday is 1", the version below will produce the same result, with the second argument displaying as "Sunday is 1"
    A3: =C1+1-WEEKDAY(C1,1)
    B3: =A+1
Adds 1 (day) to the date in A1. Fill this formula Right to column G.
Select all cells in row 3 and format as Custom, Type: Date and Time, and including only the Day of Month element.
    B4: =(IF(MATCH(B3,No school :: $A,1)=MATCH(B3,No school :: $A,-1),"closed",("Week "&QUOTIENT(DATEDIF(No school :: $A$2,B3,"D")-MATCH(B3,No school :: $A,1),7)+1)))
Fill this formula from B4 to G4. (Note that there is no entry in A4)
At its heart, this is an IF statement that returns "closed" if the date in the cell above it is on the closed list or the text "Week n" if that date is not on the list.
The first MATCH statement matches the 'largest' date less than or equal to the test date (in B3); the second matches the 'smallest' date equal to or more than the test date (in B3). If the date is on the list, both of the two MATCH statements will return the same value, and IF will return "closed".
If the date is not on the list, the two MATCH statements will return different values, and IF will pass control to the "if false" part of the formula (everything following "closed", ).
DATEDIF calculates the number of days since the first day on the No School list and subtracts the number of 'no school' dates in that time, using MATCH), then finds the Quotient when that number is divided by 7 (days in a week) and adds 1 to determine the week number. The concatenation operator ( & ) tacks that number to the end of the text string "Week " and returns the result.
As can be seen in the Monday and Tuesday cells in row 4, the formula will return an error message (MATCH was unable to find...) if the date is earlier than any on the table. To eliminate this, insert IFERROR between the = sign and the parenthesis at the beginning of the formula, and ,"" (comma-quote-quote) between the last and next to last parentheses at the end. This is necessary ONLY on the first date row of the September calendar, so the change can be delayed until you have made a duplicate of the completed calendar table.
Next, Select rows 3 and 4, then drag the Fill handle down two rows to copy all formulas into rows 5 and 6. Although the results may look correct, you should replace the formula in A5 with the one below:
    A5: =A3+7
With that change made, select rows 5 and 6, then Fill down to rows 11 and 12.
    Conditional format rule: A3 - F3
Set the rule: With Dates  Before the Date  C1
    Conditional format rule: A11 - G11
Set the rule: With Dates  After the Date  G1
The default format for both these rules is the grey text shown for the August and October dates on the September calendar.
For months where another row of dates is needed, use the Add/Delete rows handle at the lower left of the active table to add two rows, select rows 11 and 12, and fill down. The filled cells will include the formatting set here.
To create calendars for the rest of the months, select the table icon for the one completed, press command-D to duplicate it, move it to a free location, then enter the date for the first day on the month you want into cell C1 of the new calendar. Here's the result for May, 2012:
And here's the September calendar fitted to your school year beginning on September 6, with no other closings in September (and with the error trap mentioned above applied to the first week of dates).

  • How can I import diagramms and tables from numbers to pages?

I'm writing an essay, where I need diagramms and tables in it. I created some cool stuff in numbers and wanted to transfer it to pages. I thought it would be easier, but I don't have a clue how to just import the numbers stuff to my essay in pages. So I tried to copy it, but it looks not that way it looked in numbers. Another problem is: I can't layout the diagramms and tables the way I want (centered) and I need to write a description under it. I tried it with Textbox, but then I just can't group the textbox with the Table.
    Somebody with an idea?
    Thanks for your help!

To get your data from Numbers into Pages is just a simple matter of copying and pasting. Select the cells you want to place in Pages, copy, and then past into Pages. There are a couple caveats. 1) the table you paste into Pages will be pasted inline. You'll probably want to use the wrap Inspector and change it to floating. 2) if the table is too wide you'll have to get creative about how you arrange the data and 3) Numbers lets you insert check boxes, sliders, steppers, and popup menus and these won't show but the data in the cells will.
The charts will also copy and paste - again, you'll probably want to use the wrap inspector to switch them to floating objects. Having made the chart object(s) floating objects, you should have no trouble inserting your text box description, arranging them the way you want, and then grouping.
Just to make sure it worked the way I remembered, I just threw together a quick table and chart in Numbers and then copy/pasted it all into Pages.

  • IDCS6 - How do I create tables with large whole numbers and small fractions?

I have a lot of engineering data, dimensions, etc, to enter into an existing IDCS6 Table. I need whole numbers to display full size, but fractions to be small size. I know I can use Open Type and select the Fractions option for each individual fraction, but that would take forever and give me a roaring headache.
How do I create a style (or whatever) that will allow me to just type in the numbers and have them automatically apply small formatting to the fraction portion of the number whenever it sees a "/"?
Along a similar line, I was trying to copy table data from a PDF document from Acrobat X Pro and paste that into an IDCS6 table, so each cell is populated by the appropriate cell data from the PDF file, but didn't have any success. That would really save me a lot of time, because I have many complete tables in PDF format. The data is not protected in the PDF, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to bring it over to IDCS6.
    On a Mac, OSX 10.8.5.
    Thanks,
    Lou

There are a number of ways to do it, but I make fractions using Dan Rodney's excellent (and free) Proper Fraction script. After it's installed; assign it a keyboard shortcut. Then type your numerator/denominator, select it, and invoke the script. With just a couple keystrokes, you've got a perfectly formatted fraction.
As for the PDF tables, I'd try exporting the host file to RTF and copy/pasting from there. In case you're unaware, to paste values into InDesign table cells, the number of (pre-existing), cells/rows/columns in InDesign must match those copied (from) exactly, and must be pre-selected when the Paste command is executed. So...
    1. Set up empty destination table in InDesign which matches the source structure.
    2. Select source cells and Copy.
    3. In Indesign, select exact same (x, y, qty), range of destination cells and Paste.

  • Is there a recommended limit on the number of custom sections and the cells per table so that there are no performance issues with the UI?

Is there a recommended limit on the number of custom sections and the cells per table so that there are no performance issues with the UI?

    Thanks Kelly,
The answers would be the following:
1200 cells per custom section (NEW COUNT), and up to 30 custom sections per spec.
Assuming all will be populated, and this would apply to all final material specs in the system which could be ~25% of all material specs.
The cells will be numeric, free text, drop downs, and some calculated numeric.
Are we reaching the limits for UI performance?
    Thanks

  • Read Only and HTML Table Cell Attributes

    Hi Guys,
I believe i have come accross a bug - i'm been working on a form that can be filled out and printed - when going into print for sake of the output looking nice i set the form element to read-only.
As soon as an element such as a drop down box, text feild, text area, etc which display as "[selected value]" in plain text in read only mode, are changed to the read only mode apex seem to ignore the html table cell attributes.
For example i have a id number in the top left and then a version number in the top right. Both use a text feild; the top left uses 'width="100%"' for it's HTML Table Cell Attribute to push the right cell to the right. and the right cell has 'align="right"'. Now this works fine when read only is off... but as soon as read only is on, both the width and the alignment are totally ignored, and i can't find any sign of them in the code.
Because this is for printing; using the "disable" on the form element instead of "read only" function, isn't appropriate as disabled will make the elements faded and hard to read when printed, and keeping the elements as is will allow the user to edit information on the print screen - which is not appropriate.
Is this a bug? Will it be fixed soon? Is there any work around?
    Cheers,
    Alex

Use the "Read Only Element Table Cell(s) Attributes" in the Read Only region of the Item edit form.
