Numbers moving column & row headings
I have a large document which has lots row and column headings (in the grey area) but they keep moving.
Is there any way I can freeze these so they stay static but the information below moves. ?
Just starting to use numbers so all your help is absolutely invaluable.

The gray area is a header area. Being gray doesn't make it a header area, but header areas are shaded gray by default to differentiate them from the body of the document. There are two elections that you can make regarding the header rows and columns. If you are in Print View, you can choose to have the headers repeat on every page. If you are in Sheet View, you can Freeze Headers. The controls are here, with the table selected:

Is there any way in Numbers to suppress the display (viewing and/or printing) of row and/or column headings? For example, I don't want to see A,B,C,... across the top or 1.2.3... down the left side. Besides, by suppressing these displays I should be able to gain some space both vertically and horizontally.
I'm coming off of AppleWorks and life used to be so simple and easy then!!I'd use the same way as I use to send copies of tables in emails that I do not want changed.
If smaller than the screen use Quick keys, command shift 4 and draw around the table with the curser while the table is selected = png on the desktop showing ABC 123 etc, ready to attach to email or print for that matter.
Larger than the screen, use the print view and play around with the slider first
Note, command shift 3 for whole screen.

I have a Windows server app that generates Excel workbooks to be emailed to political campaign volunteers to be loaded into Numbers on an iPad, edited, then emailed back to be posted to the server database. There are two problems encountered:
1. The Excel workbook has the first row (column headings) and first column (route identifier) of cells locked, so that they will not scroll off the screen, but Numbers doesn't respect the locks, so when the user scrolls horizontally or vertically, the column headings and/or the route identifier scroll off the screen.
2. The Excel workbook has pop-up "tool-tip" type comments in certain column headings in order to provide the user with the acceptable entries for those columns, but Numbers does not respect those. When the user touches any of the commented column heading cells, a context menu appears instead of the comment.
What must I do in the Excel workbook sheets, or what settings can be made in Numbers to correct the above?I imported a Numbers '09 file into Numbers on the iPad. All comments were removed during import. Frozen header row and column were retained.
Thank you for your responses I must ask, however, when you refer to "importing" the Excel file, are you referring to a two step process whereby the Excel file is first converted by some other process into Numbers format, then opened in the Numbers application - which is what I have to do in my PC application to generate the Excel file, and reverse that process to convert the Excel back into my database format - or are you simply referring to opening the file in Numbers as "importing" it? And please excuse any ignorance, as I'm not at all familiar with Apple's terminologies. In fact, I don't own an iPad myself, but rather I have to depend on one of my clients to do the testing for me.
I imported an XLSX file into Numbers on the iPad. The file used "freeze panes" to "freeze" the first column and row. Only warning on import was that it changed fonts. It imported without the first row and column frozen and with no comments. Nothing I can do about the missing comments but it was a simple matter to turn the first column & row into headers and freeze them.
Unfortunately this would not be an efficient solution, since the end users are, for the most part, elderly political campaign volunteers who are fairly computer illiterate. These workbooks are actually canvassing lists - known as walklists. Their purpose is for the volunteers to interview voters, record the results of the interviews, and post the results to a database, which provides the campaigns with valuable strategizing capabilities. Also, these workbooks have multiple pages - as many as 10 or more. and from what I infer from the above, the setting changes would have to be made on each page.
My whole intent in developing this iPad/Tablet methodology was to significantly reduce volunteer's work - which is a recruitment benefit - and eliminate paper. While the latter would be accomplished, the former would not, and in fact would tend to increase it. It's necessary to keep the first row - column headings - and the first column - the route identifier - from scrolling off the page, so that the volunteer won't have to keep scrolling up and down and right and left to know what the data are.
Conclusion: Comments are not supported on the iPad version of Numbers. Frozen headers are not imported from Excel but can be recreated easily.
I was previously directed to the Apple website http://www.apple.com/ipad/from-the-app-store/apps-by-apple/numbers.html which extols the wonders of the Numbers application. About halfway down the page there's a section regarding, "Sliders steppers and pop-ups". The web page states that pop-ups can be set up but, being a marketing site, gives no indication whatsoever as to how it's done. I was hoping someone could tell my if there's any way to carry them over from an Excel file. -

Print Row Numbers and Column Letters
How do you tell Numbers to print the Row numbers and Column letters? This was very simple in Appleworks (print dialog box had that option). Can't find it in Numbers though.
Here is a script doing all the job for us.
Just select one or several cells in a table and run the script.
It duplicates it, add an header row, an header column, insert the needed labels and fill the other cells with a formula grabbing the contents of the original table.

We used to be able to sort by multiple columns/rows at once by right clicking on the header and choosing show more options-how do we do that in the new Numbers? It doesn't appear anywhere. Do I now have to sort massive tables by each column one at a time now? Also there used to be an easier way to merge/unmerge cells without me having to go to the table menu each time. Am I missing something?
Multiple column sort is a missing feature in the new version. Hopefully soon to return. You can do a multicolumn sort by sorting one at a time in reverse order of importance.
For merging and unmerging cells, I select the cells and right click to bring up the contextual menu. Merge and unmerge are on the menu. You could also create keyboard shortcuts for Merge Cells and Unmerge Cells in the Table menu. -

Tiny 1 point numbers in front of headings, links
Exporting PDFs from MS Word 2010 (Windows). Acrobat 11 Pro.
For the past couple of weeks, exporting PDFs from MS Word creates tiny microscopic letters/numbers in front of headings, links, and other items.
To the naked eye they look like a black dot, but zoomed in shows 01, 02, T2201 and similar things.
First graphic is what you see in the PDF viewed at 100%.
The second graphic is zoomed in 2000%. The number is set in 1 point type.
Word .docx file uses traditional Heading 1, Heading 2 styles for formatting. No numbering is set for these items in word. And once they are generated in the PDF, they are in little text frames in front of the heading text.
They are not produced when I transfer this document to another computer and export to PDF, so there's something in my system that's doing this.
They are affecting accessibility because they are read as part of the heading. In this example, screen reader voices it as "1 Busing" instead of "Using."

How do I locate column/row (number) selected in applescript
I require a simple script to adjust the column widths of the current selected column only. I want to base it on a script below which I found on the internet. This script adjusts multiple column widths to the value input and adjusts the stub column to the remaining space. I would like to know how easy it is to create a script with a similar input window that adjusts the column/row selected leaving the others in tact.

Column / Row Spanning in UIX table
Hi There,
Anybody know how to achieve column/row spanning when using the uix databound table?
For example, i would like a table which looked similar to the following:
| Cell1 | Cell2 | Cell3 |
| A spanned cell |
--------------------------Is it also possible to combine this with row spanning in a UIX table and then further combine it with the single-selection bean, producing an output similar to the below (how complex can i make this :)) :

I get the impression that spanning can be done from looking through the BLAF standards at http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/blaf/specs/tables.html#banding_group_colrow, although maybe this just related to the table layouts (where spanning of this type is easy enough) and isn't applicable/implemented for the databound table itself?

How to avoid column/row nesting in crosstab

I am using Cross Tab to get out put in following format. But every time i insert new column/row in cross tab it gets nested. I am trying to get following format. Could you please help or any pointer

Condition 1:
If you try to take one Dimension and one measure like Year and sales revenue using e-fashion demo universe then new column inserted will be nested when using cross tab where the measure values will be spread across multiple columns.
In this case you have to use condition to refer individual column names like
=[Sales revenue] Where([Year]="2001" )+ [Sales revenue] Where([Year]="2002")
and calculate the sum.
Select the measure column in the cross tab then click the u201CInsert Sumu201D button it will display the sum in the last column of the cross tab then you can modify the formula generated to specify the condition which columnu2019s sum you want o display in that column.
Ex: Use e-Fashion universe and take Year and sales Revenue turn it to cross tab and follow the process I mentioned.
Condition 2:
However if you use one dimension and multiple measure like the one you are using where you are trying to calculate sum of col1+col2 and so on. In this case you can directly insert the column and calculate the sum of column referring their names.
Ex: Use e-Fashion universe and take objects Year, Sales revenue. Quantity sold, Discount, margin here you can directly sum individual column values like sales revenue, quantity sold and discount +margin by inserting the column in between the columns using u201Cinsert Columnu201D

I was setting column & row access for the Appraisal template.
I have already set it for the three main status i.e. "In Planning", "In Review" & "In Process".
But i am unable to set it for different substatuses i.e. substatus of status "In Process". Actually i want to give different access for different substatus of the main status.

Display Column & Table Headings in Pivote Table

Try this.
Table heading:-
We do not have any direct option to do this.
But as a workaround, we can achieve this using the following approach.
Add a column to the criteria. Use the following in the column formula.
'<table width="100%" align="center" bordercolor="#C9CBD3"
frame="void" rules="cols" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td align="center" width = "200">
'|| 'This Month' ||' </td>
<td align="center" width = "200">
'|| 'Accumulated YTD' ||'</td>

Where This Month & Accumulated YTD are the table headings.
Do not forget to change the Data Format to 'HTML'
Place this column on top of measures labels in Columns Section.
But, you need to fix the width of all the measure columns and adjust the <td> width accordingly.

It is available to control the display treatment for column/row item with zero amount by Standard Layout.
1. From report
If you change this behavior online during checking report such as cost center report: S_ALR_87013611, go to menu -> Settings -> Report Layout.
You can hide/unhide the column/rows with zero value in Tab Rows and Columns.
2. Default setting for report execution
As described above, this setting comes from Standard Layout.
You can change it by transaction code GR12.
