Numbers of mappings and dimensions and tables in a module

Is there a practical number of dimensions, mappings, tables that can safely be put into a module?
I only ask because I had a module with a mapping that was corrupt with the RTC-5161 Error and I had to create a new module and copy over and recreate somethings. It left me wondering if in real world practice anyone had a best suggested number of items before you went to a new module.
I already have my business units set up as projects and will have 5 or 6 projects in a workspace.
I guess I could setup a module for main business mappings. Just wondering.
thanks
greG

Hi Greg,
a module should contain all objects that will go into the same schema. If you have objects from one schema in two modules, you risk running into consistency problems. The same applies to the use of one schema in different projects. I do not recommend that.

Carsten.

  • Diff between Dimension and Dimension Staging table?

    Hi All,
I'm OBIEE Consultant, I'd like to learn OBI Apps. While journey getting some queries. Please guide me on this journey.
    Thanks,

Dimension is ending with D and dimension staging table ends with DS. Its same nomenclature any one uses in any warehouse projects.
_DS table will directly connect to source and will have most of the detials.
D table will have the Primary Key(Called as ROWWID which will be the foreign key in all the fact table which ot refres too) along with the detials of _DS table.
Mark correct or helpful if it helps,

  • Join multiple fact tables and dimensions and use all tables in report issue

    Hi,
I have a report requirements and need to use multiple fact tables and unconformed dimensions as described below
    Fact table: F1,F2,F3
    Dimensions tables: D1.....D9
    F1:(joined to) D1,D2,D3,D4
    F2::(joined to)D1,D2,D5,D6
    F3::(joined to)D1,D2,D7,D8
    D7::(joined to)D9,D8 (dimension D7 joined to two other dimensions D9 and D8
I'm trying to use columns from almost all the fact and dimension tables but getting "Unable to navigate requested expression. Please fix the metadata consistency warnings."
Repository is consistent and no errors and warnings.
How can I configure the repository to develop reports using all fact tables and dimensions?
    Appreciate for your help.
    Thanks
    Jay.

So you want me to convert snowflake schema to star. does it solve my problem? individual star queries are working find but when I query multiple stars together getting inconsistency errors. I removed content tables dim level totals for unconformed dimensions in logical fact LTS and set level for measures at total level for unconformed dimensions. it is still in progress and need to test.
    Thanks

  • CRM online and MSA - correspondig tables in both modules

We are in a project to move from MSA to CRM online. We have a lot of reports running on MSA. Now we have to recreate them base on CRM online. Those reports are based on the MSA tables. The problem is, nobody (consultant) can tell us which are the correspondig tables in CRM online. We need the original tables to be able to recreated our reports.
Does anybody have any information about that?
    Thanks for any help.
    Roland

    Hello Roland,
MSA table names are closely related to R/3 table names.
For eg: MARA table in R/3 is SMOMARA in MSA.
So MSA table name would be SMO<R3-TABLENAME> , in most of the cases.
So, if you know R/3 to CRM table mapping , then above might help you to find out the R/3 table name first and then
    CRM table.
Also, there is a table called SMOFMAPTAB which should contain MSA to CRM table mapping. But you might not get
a mapping always, since it might not have maintained.
You can check it as well.
    SMOFMAPTAB-SFATABNAME   (MSA table name)
    SMOFMAPTAB-R3TABNAME      (CRM table name)
    Hope this helps!

  • MRBR Report- Price and qty variance tables/structure/Function module

    Hi
I am in the process of developing a customised report similar to MRBR report. I am not very clear on the logic used for "Difference Qty" and "Difference Value".
MRBR is taking values from strucrure ARSEG. Is anybody aware if there are any tables from where we can get this information ? Are there any Function modules that SAP uses to arrive at this difference.
I am aware that we canget the information from EKBE table and calculate our seleves. At times the values do not match and the logic do not seem to be straight forward.
Has someone worked around this area ?
Thanks for your time in advance.

  • Create Cubes and Dimension Help

    Hi Experts,
I am using +11.1.0.7.0 version of Oracle Databse and OWB Client+. I am trying to create Dimensions and Cubes using the OWB tool but everytime unsuccessfull.
    1. I tried using the exisiting Dimesnions and Cubes in the SH Schema as a base. However when i deployed it gave me the error.
    2. I tried to use the examples from the Oracle Library website
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/11g/r1/owb/owb11g_update_extend_knowledge/less5_modeling_target/less5_modeling_target.htm
But trying that too produce me some errors.
So the other way round i have now installed AWM (Analytic Workspace Manager) which is easily makes Cubes and Dimensions and also exports to the OBIEE Repository. But for some reasons i have to again switch back to OWB. Is there more documents which describes each and every step while preparing the Dimensions.

    Hi Ravi
    There are OBEs which include dimensional object creation (the 10gR2 one is applicable to 11gR1);

  • How to resolve many fact tables and Dimensions tables

    Hi,
The scenario is we have many facts and dimension tables. Based on some conditions one measure from one fact will be divided by another fact measure. I have encoutered with many errors like " Unable to navigate .... " ? How to resolve these errors and reduce many to few ? ( I assume creating logical tables, but is there any other alternatives ? )
    thanks
    Suresh

    Suresh,
I assume that you know how to create a single logical fact from n-physical facts, ie only if the fact tables are related. Then join all the conformed dimensions to this single Logical table using a join in the Business Model layer. Remember to set the mappings in the LTS. All if you have any hierarchies please set the aggregation level for those.

  • Delete Fact and Dimension Tables

    Hai All,
Small question! When deleting data from info cube, it asks whether to delete just Dimension table or both fact and Dimension tables.
What is the difference between these two?
    Thank you.

    Hi Visu,
The dimension table will contain the references to char value by way of SID and DIM ids, whereas the fact table will contain the number (of key figures). If you delete just the Fact table, the numbers go away, yet the DIM ids remain intact, so reload is faster. But if you are convinced that this data is not correct either, or you want a clean slate to strat reload again, then delete both Fact and Dim tables. Then when you reload, the DIM ids will be created again.
    Hope this helps...

  • Left outer join on Fact and dimension table.

Hi all, I have a fact F with account number and few measures as columns.
I also have a dimension D with account number, account name columns.
Few account numbers from Fact doesnt exist in Dimension D , but they need to show up in the report though.
How do I left join Fact and Dimension D in RPD?
I have this report where I need to show Account Number, Account name, measures.
If D doesnt have certain account numbers, I need to convert that account number from F as string and show it in the report in account name column.
    Can you pls help.

    Ok. I tried this:
Driving table : Fact, Left outer join -- didnt work.
Driving table: Dimension D left outer join -- didnt work either
In either the case, I see physical query as D left outer Join on Fact F. and omitting the rows.
And then I tried this -
Driving table: Fact, RIght outer join.
Now, this is giving me error:
Sybase][ODBC Driver]Internal Error. [nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: 00000 code: 30128 message: [Sybase][ODBC Driver]Data overflow. Increase specified column size or buffer size. [nQSError: 16011] ODBC error occurred while executing SQLExtendedFetch to retrieve the results of a SQL statement. (HY000)
I checked all columns, everything matched with database table type and size.
I am pulling Fact.account number, Dimension.account name, Fact.Measures. I am seeing this error each time I pull Fact.Account number.

  • Best practice when FACT and DIMENSION table are the same

    Hi,
In my physical model I have some tables that are both fact and dimension table, i.e. in the BMM they are of course separated into Fact and Dim source (2 different units) and it works fine. But I can see that there will be trouble when having more fact tables and I e.g. have a Period dimension pointing to all the different fact tables (different sources).
Seems like the best solution to this is to have an alias of the fact/transaction table and have 2 "copies" of the transaction table (one for fact and one for dimension table) in the physical layer. Only bad thing is that there will then allways be 2 lookups in the same table when fetching data from the dimension and the fact table.
This is not built on a datawarehouse - so the architecture is thereby more complex. Hope this was understandable (trying to make a short story of it).
Any best practice on this? Or other suggestions.

Id recommend creation of a view in the database. if its an oracle DB, materialised views would be a huge performance benefit. you just need to make sure that the MVs are updated when the source is updated.

  • How to join Dimensions and Fact Tables in OBIEE

    Hi All,
I need to create report which need to get the information from two fact tables and 7 dimensions. The granularity is not same in both the fact tables. One fact table is having common keys between all the dimension tables and second fact table have only two dimension keys but with different names. My requirement is to create the report by taking the measures from both the fact tables.
I have created joins between the second fact table and two dimension tables in physical and BMM layer and also set the highest level for all other dimension tables in the LTS of second fact table. when am creating report by taking the measures from both the fact tables, data is not getting for the measure which taken from the second fact table. Please advice me how to get the data for the measure which taken from the second fact table.
    Thanks in Advancec !!

You have to use the level-base measure capabilities.
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/bi_server/design/fact_table/level_based_measure_calculations
For all measures of the second fact table with the lowest grain (with two dimension keys), set for all dimension where you don't have any key the logical level to the "All" or "Total".
And UNSET the highest level of the LTS for the second fact table.
    Success

  • Fact Table and Dimension Tables

Hi Experts, I'm creating custom InfoCubes for data coming from non-SAP source systems. I have two InfoCubes. Tha data is coming from like 10 tables. I have 10 DataSources created fo this and the data will be consolidated in Standard DSO before it will flow into 2 InfoCubes.
Now client wants to know before how much data will be there in InfoCubes in Fact table nad Dimension tables in both the InfoCubes. I have the total size of all the 10 tables from the sources given to me by the DBA. I wan not sure how I can convert that info for Fact table and Dimension table as I have not yet created these Infocubes.
Please help me with this on how I should address this.

    hi,
The exact data will be hard to give however you can reach at a round figure in your case.
You are consolidating the data from the tables that means that there is relation between the tables. Arrive at a rough figure based on the relation and the activity you are performing while consolidating the data of the tables.
For example, let us say we want to combine data for sales order and deliveries in a DSO.
Let Sales order has 1000 records and Delivery has 2000 records. Both the tables have a common link (Sales Order). In DSO you are combining the data that means the data will be at the most granular level consist of Delivery data, so the maximum no of records which the consolidated DSO can have is 2000.
    regards,
    Arvind.

  • Multiple fact tables and dimensions

I have two fact tables actual sales and planned sales and 8 dimension tables, using a star schema. I want to query on the two fact tables with two dimensions, product and time. When I create the report in discoverer i bring in the sales from actuals and then the product_desc and month_desc. Then I bring in the measure from the second fact table and a join window pops up asking which join to use. If I choose the join to the time dimension then I get no data for the second fact table and correct data for the first fact table. If I choose the product dimension then I get correct data for the first fact table and grossly incorrect data for the second fact table.
How can I stop this from happening?
    Nick

    Nick,
I hope you solved your reporting issue and can share the solution with me. I am encountering the same problem. I have used Oracle Warehouse Builder 10Gr2 to design and deploy a pretty simple ROLAP data mart. We are using Discoverer Plus for OLAP as our reporting tool. We have 5 dimension tables using a star schema and have 3 fact tables, when I create the worksheet I bring in our sales measure from our sales item table and then Store_Name from my Stores Dimension and then week-ending from my time dimension, everything looks good at the stage. Then I bring in a measure from our advertising cost table and a join window pops up asking which join to use, if I choose either the Store or the Time dimension I get correct data for the first fact table (sales) and grossly incorrect data for the ad cost from the second fact table (advertsing costs)...... any help would be appreciated
