Nvidia GTX 680 or K5000

I am working with After Effects CS6 (after June2013 hopefully CC), Premiere Pro CS6 (after June2013 hopefully CC) and Cinema 4D.
I want a new GPU in my Computer. Witch one supports the above applications the best?
Nvidia GTX 680 or K5000?
I want a fast GPU for fast Viewport in AfterEffects and fast Rendering out of AfterEffects
In The White Paper Specs of AfterEffectsCS6 and PremiereCS6 are both not listet.
Can i use the CUDA SUPPORT with one of this cards?

My Computer_
Mac Pro 5.1, Dual 2.4GHZ 6 Core (12Core), 32GB Ram, SSD HD (System and Apps on it), osx lion.
GPU: ATI Radeon 5770 (not good performance with my apps),

you can buy a mac version of the card
http://www.evga.com/articles/00730/
if you buy the PC version you wont have a boot screen if you use it to drive your monitors (may or may not be that big of a deal to you)
680 is supported on windows, i dont recall if its in the 11.02 update on mac but if not then you can add to the supported cards txt file.
not sure why its a 6 minute video as it should take you about a minute to add to yout txt file

Why is the Nvidia GTX 680 CUDA card supported by Premiere Pro CC, and NOT After Effects CC?

Thanks Todd for all the info.  It is much appreciated and very helpful.  On a different note, could you possibly direct me to the correct forum to fix this bug?  I am suddenly recieving a warning on my System SSD referencing Adobe Exchange.  Here is a screen grab to best explain:

  • Adobe's site not showing Nvidia GTX 680 as officially supported

    Hi everyone, ( July 9, 2012 )
Planning a new system, and I KNOW that the Nvidia GTX 680 is indeed working with PP CS6 and earlier, but I just checked Adobe's site, and there
is not even a hint of the Nvidia GTX 680 being a supported card.
Adobe link to officially supported cards: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html
Any reason why ?  Do they need elaborate testing on it, before they can "officially" add it to the list ?
I just want to make 100% certain the Nvidia 680 is indeed OK to purchase.
    Thanks !
now I'll duck some bullets, because this question has prob been asked before.
    Dave.

    >need elaborate testing
    Yes
The official list is ALWAYS behind new cards

  • Will Apple be updating the Mac Pro with updated graphic cards such as the Nvidia GTX 680?

Hey Apple! And a big Hello to the Apple community!
I'm looking to buy my first Mac Pro and i'm very excited about it!
I haven't bought it yet because i'm waiting for Apple to upgrade their current graphics cards that are available in the current line up.
The ATI Radeon HD 5770 or the ATI Radeon HD 5870. Altough they are very good graphic cards, I feel that they are very outdated.
Would there be any chance of Apple upgrading their current line up to Nvidia GTX 680?
    Thanks again in advance!

    Hope springs eternal:
    GTX5xx GPUs
    GTX580 3GB running in 10.7.3.
Card shows EFI boot screens on either DVI port.
Also have GTX560 going. Will announce GTX570 separately.
Requires external PSU, but this GTX580 kicks AMD/ATI 5870 to curb, leaves for dead, and never looks back.

  • Does H9-1170t support Nvidia GTX 680?

The system has a 600W Power Supply
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I see what your saying. I guess with my setup having an aftermarket power supply will not apply to your question.
My HP came with a power supply built by "Delta" which is very highend if you have a 600 watt Delta in your computer I bet it can handle the card.
Nvidia always over shoots the power reccomendation for it's cards because they know the average computer user will by a cheapo power supply that is overrated (may say even 1000 watts but realy gives 500) so they give a reccomendation that will have everyone safe and if HP used one of the topend company's (like Delta) to build your power supply you will probably be OK. Is yours built by Delta also?
btw I have seen plenty of user's using 450-650 watt power supplies powering a GTX 680 I even ran two GTX 580 SLI off my HX650 for a couple of month's (I don't reccomend everyone try/do this) just making a point that most people reccomend far more power than is neccasary...a quality psu goes a long way (like Corsair,seasonic,Delta...etc)

I am very excited about the 680 too, then last night I read about Nvidia's "leak" about their new card coming in August, which is not far away.  I wonder why they do this.  So people get excited,
go out and buy a 680 with their hard earned money, to be slapped in the face with a new card only months later.  I just don't get it.
New card uses a new chip ( GK110 ) instead of the GK104 in the 680.  I thought 1536 CUDA cores was amazing, and I still do, but this card coming in August has a whopping 2304, and the
memory will be doubled going from 256-bit DDR to 512-bit DDR.
    http://www.legitreviews.com/news/12673/
    http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1503034&mpage=1
By the way, that's just 2 websites out of dozens and dozens who have posted this info.  Simply Google "GK110" and you'll get a huge list of websites with the info for this new "GTX 685" or whatever
    they may call it.
What does this mean for Premiere ? ... I have no clue ? ... any advantage ? ... not sure...... anyway, seems Nvida can't wait to keep popping out new cards.  Perhaps for those who have money to spend,
can just buy a 680, sell it a few months later and buy the big brother to the 680, but many of us don't, so this really makes the waters very muddy.  IF this new card comes out when planned, and it
speeds up Premiere in ways never thought possible, then it's well worth the wait.  I guess in a way, I'm glad they "leaked" this info out, before I bought a 680.
NVIDIA Kepler GK110 Approximate Specs Leaked
The launch of NVIDIA's new range of Kepler-based graphics is almost on top of us, yet details are starting to emerge about the GK104 GPU's big brother, the GK110.
It looks like NVIDIA decided to release the lower performance GK104 GPU as their upcoming top card, the GTX 680, since performance was above what they expected. This GPU would most likely have gone into a GTX 670 otherwise. It also could be due to the very large die size of the GK110 top dog chip, which is surprisingly due for launch as far away as August. The naming for this card has not been revealed, but speculation pegs it as the GTX 685, with the GTX 690 name reserved for the dual GK104 card. Leaked specifications table is below, comparing the GK110 to the GK104 and AMD's HD 7970. Note the brawny 512-bit memory bus.
Going back to GK110, a card built in 28nm process, which will likely have 2304 CUDA cores, may have completely reorganized GPU structure. Streaming multiprocessors may rise to 10 (in comparison to GTX 680). NVIDIA could use 512-bit memory interface on this one. It is rumored that GK110 will consume around 250 Watts. Card should be prepared for August 2012. Naming is not yet revealed, but since GTX 680 is already taken, this card may be called GTX 685 (leaving GTX 690 brand for dual-gk104). It is also possible that NVIDIA will decide to release new GK110 gpu as a card from GeForce 700 series, but this would be a marketing failure as owners of GTX 680 would feel confused – having a graphics card which is a generation old after 5 months.

  • PS6 Video using NVIDIA GTX 680 card in 2009 Mac Pro OS 10.9.4- slow.

    Hi,
I just put a GTX 680 in my juiced up Mac Pro, replacing the original NVDIA 120... and the speeds in PS6 doing video seem to be exactly the same as before..... What are the settings I should have in preferences? Do I need a driver or anything? Looking in the graphics card part of PS6 prefs, it seems to be registering the 680..... and everything works... but I see no difference in any speed.
    Any advice?

    Hi,
I've done all the preferences I can find online.
If I turn "use Graphics processor" to "off"... it seems to make no difference to the video speeds- playback, export...
Have I just wasted $700 on the GTX 680?
I'm running Photoshop CS6 Extended.... does this mean the videon editing does NOT use the GPU?
Please offer some insight, advice or information...
    Thanks

  • NVidia GTX 680 4GB video card - Comments.....

I will be installing my new GTX 680 4GB this weekend... does anyone know if I will see a significant boost in speed & performance (in PP and/or SG).  I have 8-core (mid 2010) MacPro w/ 28G RAM (on Mountain Lion).  My stock 5770 is basically unuseable for any serious work.  I'd love everyones thoughts on this.... PLZ!!

It depends. You will want to pay more attention to the effects you use so that you stick with the CUDA accelerated ones as much as possible. And certainly, make sure you are using the harware aqccelerated Mecury settings.
I don't know if I see an increase in speed, but since I no longer have to render except once in a blue moon, I would say the performance is far superior.
I only have the 4G GTX670, not quite as powerful, but I have no complaints.

  • Does anyone know if the NVIDIA GTX 680 is compatible with Premier Pro 6?

I am looking for a graphics card to utilize the mercury graphics engine.  Does anyone know if the GTX 680 works with Premier Pro 6?

    Bill,
If I recall correctly, the only system difference between
the two scores was 24GB RAM @#1 instead of 12GB @#17.
It came as something of a surprise that doubling the RAM
was able to knock down MPEG-2 encoding by more than 50%.
I also seem to recall that once this fact was known... most everyone
doubled their RAM within a couple of weeks resulting in my stay
at the top of the list being pretty brief!

  • Adobe CS 5.5 Nvidia GTX 680 Support with Mercury Playback Engine

Ok, so I was all set to buy a new EVGA GTX 580, and now for the same price I can buy the brand new GTX 680.
Is there anyone here that has tried the GTX 680 to see if PP MBE will support the GTX 680? Of course the Adobe website doesnt mention that they explicitly support the GTX 680 but I'm wondering if it works anyway.
And if it isn;t supported now, I hope its safe to assume its coming with CS6. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Chris

So as i understand this means the card is "unsupported" but that doesnt concern me. To me that basically says Adobe hasnt "certified " the comatibility. So i guess my real question is I'm using rhis in a professional environment , and I'm always most concerned about stability
If the simple hack makes it work thats fine,  I guess Im really looking for somone that has made sure the Gtx 680 works without creating problems with Premiere stability

  • NVidia GTX 680 preferences?

I'm looking to replace my aging FX3800 with a GTX 680 (either 2GB or 4GB) - largely for PP and AE CS6.
There's such a profusion of manufacturers...
    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx680keple rseries/
...that it's difficult to know which is the best, and what the nuances are - if any.
Any guidance would be extremely welcome.  Thanks.

If anyone is wondering how to preview on a (third) external monitor - the GTX 680 4GB is the way to go.
Perfect sync at last - the 2-3 frame delay inherrent in the Blackmagic Intensity Pro has gone.  Not only that, but the third monitor can be used as a PC monitor when not using PP CS6 - not possible with the BMIP.
I am also getting 20 tracks of XDCam EX material, all with three-way colour correction and differing layer blend modes.  It may do more than 20.  I haven't tried.  The Quadro FX3800 struggled with 4 (with the BMIP installed)
It's probably complete overkill - as I haven't played a game since Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards in the 80s.

  • IMac Crashing: GPU NVIDIA GTX 680 MX 2048 MB Failing?

    Hi,
I am recently experiencing frequent OS system crashes and CUDA recognition issues which I think are related to my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB on a late-2012 iMac running OS X Yosemite V.10.10.1 and a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor.
After updated my OS to Yosemite on Friday, yesterday I updated the CUDA driver to 6.0. After one of these crashes, this driver update is no longer recognized and Adobe Media Encoder and After Effects is no longer able to recognize the CUDA for rendering purposes. If I re-install CUDA 6.0 it functions again, but after another crash is again gone.
The display will periodically freeze in place and then crash to black. The main menu bar at the top of screen is frequently turning for legible labels to gibberish. This "gibberish" issue did not begin until after the original CUDA update yesterday, but I have been experiencing the display-freeze then crash periodically each working day for over a week now.
Perhaps this is simply related to CUDA v.6.0? I believe I need a minimum of CUDA driver 5.0. Has that version of the driver proven to be more stable?
Do these appear to be symptoms related purely to the GPU or does this indicate a separate problem with my iMac hardware?
Thank you for any assistance or advice.

If you suspect that CUDA is causing instability, remove it and see whether there's an improvement.

  • After effects and  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB

I've installed the  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB on a Mac Pro 3,2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon running OSX 10.9.4 but it seems AE doesn't take advantage of the new hardware and the CUDA technology. The ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB mounted before, went for the same rendering times. Am I missing any setting in the software or isn't the graphic card the perfect choice for fastening my rendering processes?
Ae obviously recognize the Nvidia and the CUDA settings should be ok....
    Any Idea?
    Andrea

AE only takes advantage of CUDA for ray traced features, which is being phased out. To get the most out of your render times, invest in processing power and RAM. I upgraded to the Titan Black and noticed hardly any difference in my render times. Check out this response given by AE's Todd Kopriva on Sept 24, 2014 at Creative Cow: CUDA does not accelerate : Adobe After Effects

  • Photoshop CC not detect nVidia GeForce GTX 680 after driver upgrade (Windows 8 64-bit)

i just upgraded the driver for my nVidia GeForce 680 graphics card from the nVidia website. the specifications are shown below.  Photoshop CC now says that it can't detect my graphics card. does anyone know the solution to this problem?
    nVidia verstion 327.23 WHQL
    release date: Sept 9, 2013
    operating system: windows 8 64-bit
will adobe have to issue an update to photoshop CC to fix the problem?

    hey chris,
thx for relplying. i appreciat it. here is what happened. i did an update through microsoft and downloaded a driver for nVidia. somehow that download caused PS CC to stop recognizing my GTX 680. i'm not sure why. subsequent to that, i went to nVidia's website and downloaded the current driver. i still found that PS CC didn't "see" my graphics card. that is when i wrote this post. after i posted this i rebooted my computer and found that everything now works fine. PS CC now recognizes my GeForce GTX 680 with no problems.

New to the iMac and apple

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you aren't going to use your Mac for anything special (Final Cut, Aperture, Photoshop, games...), you don't need that graphic card and you will save money.
Also, as it looks like you are going to buy the 27-inch iMac, I recommend you to buy the Mac with 8 GB of memory, and then, buy the memory that your iMac needs in OWC or Crucial (the iMac supports 32 GB of RAM) > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L
Doing this, you will save a lot of money. Also, it won't void the warranty of the Mac. If you need help installing the RAM, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5540
