NX6800 Ultra T2D256 Power problem...

I have read all threads I can find on the NX6800 Ultra T2D256 but can't find the solution. I keep getting the "power down because not enough power" error at the start up of XP Home. With the Thermaltake Purepower 560w ps, I'd think it is more than enough to power this card. I have installed the card in my son's computer and he get's the same msg. I have made sure the pins are tight and making contact, it's set up on one rail, and I have tried every combonation I can think of. I called Thermaltake and they say it should run the card fine so they are sending me a replacment ps. For some reason I just don't feel the replacment will do it. Could it be the card? Or is it the slow AMD 2100 CPU? I don't what that would have to do with the power problem of the video card though... I'm pritty sure everting is up to date but I could have missed something...
Any suggestions would be appreciated...
Oooops... no sig line...
Avalanche
A7V600-X mobo
OCZ 512 x 2 duel channel mem
AMD XP2100 CPU
T-take ps 560w (Silent Purepower)

Ok, I will try the 2 power cables again and I take it that nothing else but the card should be run on those 2 lines?
Also, that leaves me with only 2 power lines to run 2 cd/cdr, 2 HD's, and 1 floppy. I also have 5 case fans.
Now can you point me to an explination of what "replacing all the AGP/Gart drivers and doing a driver clean on the NVidia drivers" is?
I am running the ATI 850Pro on that computer right now so I know to un-install the ATI drivers of course before installng the NVidia card. I have never heard of "Gart" and didn't know there were seperate AGP drivers from the mother board drivers...
Still got a lot to learn and thank you for all your help...

I'm having a lot of problems getting my system running.  I will first explain everything i have...then explain the problem...hopefully someone knows whats wrong or what i'm doing wrong if anything.

now the problem is when i first started only the fans on the computer would run.(cpu fan, 80mm fans and radeon fans...all ran) but nothing would boot...hard drive or cd roms would not start...no power at all to them.  now nothing will run at all...the d-led indicator has one red light on lower right constantly.  there are no sound beeps/flashing lights anywhere.  Is this a mobo problem or power supply.  I'm getting no video out of my radeon either, so even entering my bios is not an option.  No power at all is going through the system anymore..only to the d-bracket.  Which is very odd since i didn't really change anything at all...only rearranged the power cords inside.  All parts are brand new...  Any help on determining what is wrong with this is much appreciated.  Thanks

  • Burnt up GeForce 6800 Ultra NX6800 Ultra-T2D256

Ive got a MSI K7N2G-ILSR, AMD XP 2200+, 2*256 DDR RAM, Antec Truecontrol 500w PSU, and of course the grpahics card described above!
Ive bought this card exactly 9 days ago (Received it 2 days ago). Installation was a breeze, i was playing Call Of Duty 2 without any problems, such as glitches, random crashes etc.
Everything was fine until i left the computer turned on overnight, i was uploading a movie clip on the internet, a hardly demanding task, i am used to leaving the computer turned on all night, as i have owned this setup for the last 2-3 years (without the gfx card obviously), and it has been perfect since.
Around 4 AM, i awoke, because i was coughing. I could smell some plastic-ish burning smell. Fearing the worst, i realised the smoke was coming from the computer. Since the mains power supply is behind the desk and i cannot reach there quickly, i pushed and held the "On" button. After what seemed two minutes, (In reality it may have been 5 seconds, with the adrenaline, i am not too sure of the timeframe), I ran out of the room, and grabbed the fire extinguisher, that my dad insists on keeping, opened the side of the case as quickly as possible, and gave a shot to the interior of the case. This quickly put out the fire.
Upon closer inspection, after the power was cut, the Video card is unrecognisable, The PCB is now a hue of burnt black with patches of the original green where it wasnt affected much by the fire, also, the graphics card is permanently bonded into the Graphics Card Slot now.
Thankfully, no-one has been injured because of this incident.
As of today, i am still at the conclusion, the graphics card must have had a major fault, as the previous graphics card, a MSI Geforce FX 6200, had no problems.
Upon installation, correct procedures was followed, such as grounding myself, turning the power off etc.
The card or any of the components in my computer have NOT been overclocked, as a few measly megahertz is not worth the warranty. (Overclocking the graphics card is especially pointless, as it is already powerfull enough, the onboard Geforce 4 can handle the newest games thrown at it, at moderate settings)
The case itself is properly cooled with 3 Fans (2 Intake, 1 exhaust) and also the wiring is routed and tidy. The graphics card had the 2 4 pin molex power connected also.
As of present, i do not have a list of what is ruined in the fire, but in general terms, the Graphics Card and Motherboard is wrecked. (I havent turned the computer On again, due to what happened before). I suspect the CPU and RAM may have been damaged, Hard drives and optical drives should still be functioning, the case itself is blacked out on the inside with smoke.
Any ideas on what to do guys? This was a very expensive graphics card, that has just gone up in smoke.    I bought the card from the USA as a self xmas present, i would normally just RMA the graphics card, but it somehow melted-ish in the AGP slot, so i cant take it out. I cant take the motherboard out, because it is bolted and padlocked to the desk! (i've lost the keys). I would post some pics up, but i dont have a digital camera, or know anybody that would lend one to me. So any ideas on what i should do? Ive filled out a technical support form, but i havent had a reply yet.
    BiG K

First of all, I'd take pictures.
Then, I'd contact your local MSI subsidiary. Call them, don't bother with online forms or e-mail.
    How to contact MSI.
Can you tell exactly where the fire originated?
Please post pics...while I feel bad that happened to you, that is rare, and to geeks like myself, seeing the carnage is equal to a spectacular car wreck for some race fans

  • Ultra 60 power problem

i have recently purchased an u60 it powered up fine.
However i have installed extra ram etc now when i come to power it on the fan spins for about a second and then it stops and theres no power..
I have cheked the cables and they look seated properly but the one that goes into the ower supply wobbles a bit.
    any ideas
    Dan

have you tried removing the ram that you just installed and then booting? as you need to (re)move the power supply, there would be a few cables to check (I would be concerned about the "wobbly" power cable).
I would suggest the service manual, but docs.sun.com seems to be on vacation.
    *it is up again...

make sure the ram are all the same (literally the same configuration) and that they are all properly seated...
and then let us know how it goes...

    1. When playing BF2,( I haven't installed the drivers supplied with the game at this point! ) the game starts all graphics showing full 32 bit settings at medium/high, map loads and at the game screen I see it minimap in all its technicolor, but the rest of the screen is black except for the player names! Now installed drivers and exactly the same problem

  • MSI NX6800 Ultra - Power Problems

I have a power-problem with this little baby
When I start windows it says that it doesnt get enough power, so the performance have been "decreased" (cant remember exact words)
My PSU delivers 18a over 12v
    http://www20.tomshardware.com/howto/20040122/power_supplies-15.html
(detailed picture of PSU and what power it delivers)
I've tryed without USB, only 1HD etc. to make sure the system used as little power as possible, but still get the "not enough power" message in windows
When I look at the GFX card and the power-cords, there IS a brown cord sticking out of it !?
There is 2 brown cords comming from each of the plugs I connect to my PSU, and it then merge into a little plug that actually fit into the bigger plug that goes into the GFX card. But as if its been taken out ? I have a slight feeling this could be the problem ?
But the question is, there is two empty holes in the plug I put into the GFX card where the brow-cord-plug fits. Anyone out there who have the same GFX and know if this brown plug is supposed to be in the GFXpower-plug ? and If so is it supposed to be in the lower or upper hole ?

First thing we need to know is more information on what your system is. We can't do any diagnosis on a system without knowing what it is. I have a hard time believing with any system that 18amps on the 12v rail would be enough to power that video card with the rest of the system. Once we get all (I mean everything, add your on signature like mine that includes all hard ware on the system, for more info check out the moan guide it has the information you need to properly list your system.
As far as the brown cord, I don't know. Hopefully someone else with the knowledge can post in here.
Please follow the above so we can better help you.
    Thanks

  • NX6800 ULTRA question

im getting a Nvidia NX6800 ULTRA in a month or so ...
but im a bit concerned about the power thing  .. will i  be able to run one of those cards properly in my system  or do i need to upgrade ?

I think you'll be ok, there are some reviews of this card and the need for a 480W PSU didn't prove itself. Besides, you have an Enermax 465! Only one thing, Nvidia says you need not shared molex connectors for the card. Wait and see how it works...

  • How to flash ? nx6800 ultra

    as above, please help me..
im sick of my slow 6800ultra
    please help :(
steps on how to flash it
    thanks in advance

If you look up some of the 6800 Ultra threads, you will get a list of these problems and the way to sort them, Also it would Really helpful if you could give a list of your computer specs....
    - live update doesnt detect my card
Everyone has this, its just that MSI have not updated there Live update for the card yet!
    - ingame videoplayback error (choppy) [i.e farcry begining]
Your running Bios 14 which in alot of case the bios is faulty so change to bios 15,  look on the forums to where to get this and install it, Also sound like you need to use a program called driver cleaner and reinstall a fresh set of the newest drivers...
    - mood swing speeds (sometimes fast sometimes slow)
same again, bios change and drivers to resolve this
    - d.o.t (dynamic overclocking technology) doesnt work (infact hangs my com)
    Bios and drivers again
    - doesnt work with some games (doom 3.. monsters are so colourfully scary)
    hehe same answer
    - sometimes after alt-tabbing, displayed graphics is choppy [fuzzy] (like as if someone sneezed noodles out really hard and it hit the screen, leaving imprints)
i had this to with bios 14, sorted when i got bios 15
    - when i finally get to run 3dmark , the score for video card itself is 7000 +
LOL that not very good but that depends on what your computer specs are, i get around 12132 with a Athlon 3200+ 1g ram

  • MacBook Pro Power Problems.

My MacBook Pro is exhibiting power problems. I am running Yosemite and it seems that the problem may have arisen since I dowloaded this upgrade. When the battery is charged it shows 99% charge and I can use it on battery power. As normal with use the charge gradually reduces, say to 30%. I then switch off using either the on/off button/apple logo, waiting for the dialogue box, " do you want to switch off etc". The next day, I switch on, but the computer will only boot up when the power lead is attached. When the computer comes on, usually as normal, the charge always shows 0%. When it is recharged the whole process repeats itself. Help please.

    Hi,
Thanks for responding. My MBP is late 2009 and the battery has never been replaced. When I look at battery condition, it registers as normal, as it does when I do the power checks you suggested. When I plug in the power cord it glows green and within a few seconds it is on amber, until fully charged. I've done the SMC reset. I  noticed this morning that after using it last night the battery capacity was 93% and an expected duration of about 5.5 hours was listed. After limited use this morning, restricted to email admin only, the charge level had dropped to 88%, but the predicted duration was only 2.75 hours. Currently the level is 73% and the duration is  3 hours, although I have accessed the web several times. Presumably there is some sort of algorithm that looks at current usage and predicts the duration. I will continue to monitor this to see what happens. In the meantime if you have any more thoughts!!!
    Regards

  • Hard Disk or Power Problem

I have a Powerbook that I have had for many years now. Recently it hasn't been booting up. I hit the start button and it chimes like it usually does but the screen and hard disk don't do anything. Sometimes it does boot up but it doesn't start easily. When it does boot sometime freezes when I go through the login and when loading the desktop but once the desktop is loaded it works fine until it goes to sleep. I just bought a new battery for it this summer. I have been reading though the Discussions and I figure my computer is either having power problems when starting up or I need a new hard disk. Any thoughts?

You will find step by step directions at iFixit. Note that your computer does not have the EMI finger referred to in the directions. Also, be especially careful with the tiny screws in the sides on the computer. You don't want to strip the heads or it will be very difficult to get them out. Here are few tips you may find helpful:
    • Print out the ifixit directions as well as the screw guide ahead of time.
    • Be sure you have the right tools. You don't want to damage the screw heads or you may never get them out. And the Torx screw driver is critical. For a spudge I use the handle of an old toothbrush (choose one made of hard plastic), cut off the brush and beveled the handle end like a flat blade screw driver). For some spudge jobs a credit card will do the trick.
    • Click on the pages of each step which involved removing screws to enlarge, then print out the pages. Poke holes in the paper where the screws were removed, poke the screws in the holes and stack the pages in order in which there were removed. Reassembling is a lot easier. No cups to tip over and spill. No guessing. Each screw is exactly in the right place. You can use an ice cube tray, egg carton, dixie cups etc. I previously used small medicine cups one for the screws in each step. I nested them so that the last ones out and the first to go back in are on top. (Some users report cutting up the screw guide and placing the applicable section in each container.)
    • Be very careful pulling out leads. Hold the lead as close to the plug as possible and wiggle (the plug ) to loosen its grip. Don’t hold the wires and pull as that can damage the cable, or worse, in some instances pull the wires out of the plug. Indeed, some users have pulled the socket off the logic board! Use needle nose pliers or tweezers if you can access the plug, or nudge the plug with a small instrument to help loosen its grip.
    • Use force gently in removing parts. Separating upper and lower case takes some doing. Use a plastic tool (spudge) so as not to leave marks.
    • Refer to the screw guide when reassembling computer. Putting longer screws in the wrong place can perforate the circuit board.
So will I be able to put the OS and everything on by the installation discs?
Yes you will. Indeed you may be able to clone the contents of your current HDD to the new HDD by placing the drive in a firewire enclosure and formatting and cloning the new drive before installing it in the computer. If you have data you need to backup and have a sound installation on your current HDD this might be an option to consider.
When you get your new HDD it will need to be formatted before you can install the OS on it. If you need directions for formatting and installation, I can post step by step directions here for you. Let me know.
    Good luck.

  • KT4 Ultra - SCSI boot problem

    Hi,
I have installed a Tekram DC390U2W LVD SCSI adapter on my KT4 Ultra. My problem is that I cannot select any of the five connected SCSI disks as a boot device in the BIOS (BBS-n), nor can I select 'Legacy SCSI' as a boot device, they simply don't exist as options in the Boot Sequence menu. I've used this card (and were able to boot) without problem using a MSI KT266 motherboard, so I don't think the problem is the SCSI adapter. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've disabled all motherboard options (Serial ATA Raid/1394/USB 2.0/GBLAN/Audio controllers), remove all PCI cards exept the Tekram card and tried it in all PCI slots without success. Also tried to assign different IRQs to the SCSI card in the BIOS. Tekram support responded that the SCSI card is fully PnP/BBS/PCI 2.1 specification compliant and they're unaware of any KT400 issues. There are issues (and work arounds) with this SCSI card when using it on motherboards with an on-board SCSI controller and older Award BIOS versions, but that's not applicable here.
Anyone out there using this SCSI card and motherboard got this combination to work as intended?

    Howdy rcoo26,
It sounds like there’s an issue turning your MacBook Pro on when it isn’t connected to power, and the battery doesn’t seem to be holding a charge. The article below provides information that can help you troubleshoot the battery in your notebook.

  • Intermittent power problem Canon 5D Mark iii

My Canon 5D Mark iii (2 years old) has an intermittent power problem, as described below. It may simply be a question of cleaning the terminals that the battery connects to. I haven’t tried since I can’t reach them at the bottom of the battery compartment.
    Details as follows:
this is a recent problem in the last 3 weeks
the problem occurs with all three Canon batteries that I use
from time to time when the power is on, the camera suddenly loses all power and displays an “empty” battery image
sometimes it happens of its own accord while no demand is being placed on the camera
but more usually it occurs at the moment of focusing (I use back focus on the * button)
it is often fixed by turning the power off and then on again. This fixes it half the time
it is always fixed by turning the power off, removing and then re-inserting the battery
needless to say this is very annoying!
Since coming back from a trip, while transferring images from the camera to my computer, I noticed that the (almost) full battery started showing “empty”.
The transfer was completed successfully, and when the camera was disconnected from the computer, the battery showed that it had lots of charge left. Very puzzling!

It sounds like either the battery terminals aren't getting a solid contact or there's a fault (something loose or grounding out) inside the camera.  But if something were genuinely loose or grounding out inside the camera, then power cycling or even re-inserting batteries would probably not fix it -- which makes me suspect it's still something outside the camera.
Are any of the batteries new, or are they all about the same age as the camera?
Batteries only last a few years but it'll depend on how they were used.  In other words if all three were used about the same and enough charge cycles to be at the end of their reliable life... it might be time to replace them.
It's difficult for the internal battery terminals to get dirty unless the battery itself had something on the battery iteself when you inserted it.  You can try a bit of denatured alcohol on a cotton swap to reach in and clean the terminals.  Also, inspect the batteries to make sure they're all clean.
