OAS 4.0.8.2 for NT

Greetings:
I'm trying to run 4.0.8.2.1 for NT on a laptop with Oracle 8.1.6 for NT. Everything is working except the application will not start (generate cartiridges) when you hit the url. The listeners are fine. For a while, NT kept killing my wrksrv.exe process but now it suddenly keeps running and I didn't really change anything. Could that be the probelem? Anyone had a similar problem?
Thanks!

Its a tically error of not enough memory.
How many Mb of Ram and swap have you configured.
Best regards, Marcelo.
PD: With this combination I recomend 256Mb of ram plus 512mb of swap.

  • OAS 4.0.8.1 for Linux: wrksf goes down

    After having installed the OAS 4.0.8.1 for
    Linux, I have a problem getting it to work.
    I use the OAS Manager to start the following
    four processes :
    oassrv "Oracle Application Server"
    wrksf "Cartridge Server Factory"
    otsfacsrv "Transaction Server Factory"
    orb "ORB Servers"
    The four processes come up, but after a
    minute or so the 'wrksf' process goes
    down.
    After restarting the wrksf in
    command line mode (using the owsctl utility)
    the same occurs: it stays up for about a
    minute or so, and then goes down.
    The log files don't show any error messages.
    Does anybody have a clue in which direction
    I should search ?
    Can any tracing be turned on ?

    After I fixed some of the things I broke while searching for the wrksf failure, the PL/SQL Cartridge now works for me too. And, after failing to get the DB Browser to work by loading it into the SCOTT schema, I got it to work by loading it into SYS. (SCOTT can't see the DBA_* views so loading the DB Browser into the database failed.) I haven't tried any Java Servlets yet, but that's next on my list.
    If you want to try my wrksf workaround, rather than using Christoph's, here's how you can do it.
    1. Backup liborb.so in the $ORACLE_HOME/orb/4.0/lib directory, just in case something goes wrong.
    2. Using a hex editor, such as emacs hexl-find-file or ghex, to edit liborb.so, find the string "/proc/stat".
    3. Change the directory, "/proc" to something like "/pfoo" and write the shared library file back to liborb.so. You now have the required modified liborb.so.
    4. Make the /pfoo directory and cp /proc/stat /pfoo.
    5. Edit /pfoo/stat and duplicate the first line, which should be the cpu line. This will let the metrics parser handle it. Make sure that /pfoo/stat has read access.
    Of course, the values that the metrics code gets are now bogus, but that does not seem to be a fatal problem.
    Hopefully somebody from Oracle is reading this and the real fix will be in the mail soon.

  • RequestDispatcher.forward on OAS 4.0.8.1 for Servlet Communication

    We are unable to pass request information from a servlet to another servlet or a JSP on OAS 4.0.8.1 whereas we have been able to achieve this
    successfully in JDK using the same code.
    Since Servlet Chaining is not supported in the JServlet of OAS, use the forward
    method in the RequestDispatcher object instead.
    RequestDispatcher rd;
    rd =getServletConfig().getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(/testme1/USe
    rvl
    et);
    rd.forward(request,response);
    It didn't do anything with the forward method and nothing was logged in the log file. Anyone out there, please send help ASAP. Thanks.

  • SSL 128 bits on OAS 4.0.8.1 for LINUX ?

    We used to use the solaris version. To reduce cost, we are moving to Linux. Before, when you needed 128 bits security, you had to order a special patch from tech support.
    The linux version we received is the export version and it is NOT 128 bits SSL.
    Does 128 bits SSL exist ?
    Also, LINUX support from oracle seems REALLY BAD. I'm wondering if we're doing a nice move here... ?

  • OS & kernel requirements for OAS

    Hello,
    What are the OS, kernel, and other such requirements for various OAS combinations (#1 and #8, for example, on http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/devuse.html)?
    I tried installing #1, and hit the wall:
    Checking operating system version: must be redhat-2.1, UnitedLinux-1.0 or redhat-3
    Checking for Kernel version 2.4.21-4.EL
    The Linux Kernel requirement is 2.4.21-4.EL or higher. The current version of Linux Kernel on the system is 2.4.20-8. This version is not supported by Oracle Corporation.
    Checking swap space: 509 MB available, 1536 MB required.
    I have Red Hat 9.0 with 2.4.20-8 and 2.4.26, but it looks like that's not enough.
    Any advice? Do things work under RH9 despite these requirements?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Has anybody tried or succeeded in registering Apache 1.3.4 with

    Hi ,
         First of all please check availability of your OS + DB requiremnts whether it is supported by SAP or not.You can check this at Product Availability Matrix at ::
    http://service.sap.com/pam
         If this support for your environment i.e.RedHat Linux 5.2 with Oracle 10G then be informed that after starting sapinst in step create database it will prompt you for installing your oracle DB. So open a new window & install your databse ,do the patching of your DB & then continue with sapinst after successfull installation of oracle.Rest of details sapinst will prompot you during instal;lation.
        Hope this will guide you for your query.
    Thanks..

    I recently installed OAS 4.0.8.1 on a NT4 workstation. The machine initially had 128 meg of RAM and I knew this would put a strain on the machine, so I added another 128 to bring the total to 256. However I get a strange error now when starting the OAS.

    [This is a reply to the message from HUNTERTJ entitled "OAS 4.0.8.1 on NT", because OTN won't accept a direct reply to the original message]
    I had a similar "PANIC" error starting OAS on NT Workstation. I asked Oracle for help, and the fix they gave me was to set up a TCP/IP Loopback Adapter (under a different hardware profile) and use this profile when running OAS. I did this, and re-installed OAS just to be sure, and it now seems to work. No idea why.
    Good luck!

    Hi !!!
    I installed OAS 4.0.8.1 on Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 5 (June 1999).
    I have a Oracle Database installed at the same machine (8.0.4 EE) because I installed OAS at other ORACLE_HOME. I follow the steps (workaround) showed at the document "Latest Oracle Application Server Release Notes. January 2000".
    Hence, I created other user administrator for OAS and I put the entries for OAS at the User Path for this admin.
    The system Path contains the entries for the database.
    But, when I try to raise the process from OAS Manager, it happends the next:
    Please wait while the command is being processed on host vnt05 ...
    Starting ORB process...
    waiting for ORB to be ready...
    The command completed successfully on host vnt05.

  • Gif images for iconic button?anybody met success

    I have done everything what is specified in the doc i.e added the lineof code for app.iconpath and referred the same in the HTML FOR cartridge in serverApp param
    and also in the cartridge parameters but the result no the buttons just stare balank at me.
    Instead i tried to replace the buttons with the 1k,2k size gif images oops! Oracle Developer server can't even take a byte of
    image files and the application hangs searching for the file.
    Why can anyone who has met with success please tell me how?
    Mahesh

    I tryed almost everuthing (I'm using WebDB
    listener not OAS)
    The only sollution worked for me is
    in Registry.dat (NOT WINDOWS REGISTRY)
    which located in
    ORACLE_HOME\FORMS60\JAVA\ORACLE\FORMS\REGISTRY
    FOLLOWING SETTINGS
    default.icons.iconpath=/dev60temp/
    default.icons.iconextension=gif
    where /dev60temp/ is virtual directory made
    for WebDB listener.
    Please let me know if your immage looks Ok.
    Mine is shifted to the upper right corner.
