but cannot download it. is it down or something?

OBIEE 11g + OBIEE 11g Samples (rel.825)

Hi all.
I'm quite new in OBIEE 11g. I used to have some experiences with version 10g but 11g seems to be more advanced.
Generally I've installed DB11g then OBIEE 11g and started configuring samples according to documentation regarding release 825.
Everything went fine but when I try to run any report I get errors like:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 1017, message: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied at OCI call OCISessionBegin. [nQSError: 17014] Could not connect to Oracle database. (HY000)
Problem is that I can't find out what user is it talking about !
During installation I've created:
- BISAMPLE/BISAMPLE
- obiee_navteq (for maps)
Both user profiles and other BI profies are working fine. So I have no idea where shall I look for mistake.
On EM application for 'coreapplication' I see errors like:

OBIEE 11g Data Download issue

Hi,
One of our user is not able to download data in any format in production in his PC - OBIEE 11.1.1.7.0
When export link is clicked, a pop us comes up saying that "Do you want to save saw.dll? from analytics.xxx.com"
I am not able to save the file and IE hangs.
The user is using IE9.

This seems to be a problem related to IE9.
Check this.
2. OBIEE does not support the use of IE9's Document Mode and Browser Mode settings to emulate versions of Internet Explorer other than the installed version.

Patch processing in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
Is there any document regarding patch processing for both catalog and rpd? I have seen some 2 to 3 blogs and tried executing the patch, but got some error in that they have mentioned to look *"the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition's Presentation Services Administration Guide"* for more info. But I didn't find any document like that. So where to get that?

Applying a patch to OBIEE 11g
After downloading the patch I tried to apply them using the following procedure:
1. Unzip the patch zip file into the PATCH_TOP.
unzip -d PATCH_TOP p12561330_111150_WINNT.zip
2. Set your current directory to the directory where the patch is located.
cd PATCH_TOP/12561330
3. Run OPatch to apply the patch.
Run following command:
- opatch apply -jre $ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre
But the opatch execution failed.
Could you please suggest me the exact process to apply the patch.

Error in accessing the sample application content from the OBIEE 11g

I installed OBIEE 11g + Oracle 11g database on one machine. Everything went smoothly with no issues.
I can connection to the database from SQLPLUS.
Then I followed instructions to deploy sample app. After everything is done, when I try to access the dashboards, reports etc from the OBIEE 11g home page , I get the error below.
I am stuc kand dont know how to proceed. I verified tnsnames.ora and everything seems good.
In the SampleAPp.RPD, I set DB_SID as "ORCL" and DB_HOST as my computer name (along with domain name). No idea how to proceed from here..
I really appreciate any help.
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).

1) Was the oracle installed in multiple instances ? if yes set the Variable path correctly pointing to your right folder
Yes, oracle had multiple instances. I tried copying the tnsnames.ora from my oracle home to the Oracle_BI1/network/admin directory as 11g apparetnly comes with a Oracle client as BIFACTs suggested in his/her reply. I put the same in the path variable
2) Try to ping the service_name tnsping service_name(SID) from command prompt
This works.
3) check whether you may have "white spaces" in tnsnames.ora file at starting of entry
No white spaces appeated
I still see the same issue! I logged in as developer credentials as mentioned the sample app documentation.
I get the same "cannot connect to database" error.
I once in a while see an issue with javahost not starting. Not sure what is the impact of javahsot not running and all the other managed processes running.
Please help....

OBIEE 11g - Download All/Display All of rows in Answers

Hi All,
I have created a request in OBIEE 11g and now displaying it on dashboard.
by default shows 25 rows, can extend it fo 500 rows, next i should keep on clicking to see full data.
Also download of data is possible for the rows available on page only i.e. 500 rows are only getting exported to excel.
Any way to view all data on dashboard at once and download as well?

Crc error in download of OBIEE 11g

I'm trying to get OBIEE 11g installed, but sadly one of the files i want to download keeps saying it is corrupt.
http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/bi/111130/bi_windows_x86_111130_32_disk1_2of2.zip gives a crc-error when extracting it. I tried downloading it multiple times using different browsers/computers but no luck.
Do more people experience this or does anybody know a solution for this. A mirror to download the file from works fine for me too. Disk 1 file 1 of 2, and both files from disk 2 download and extract just fine.

Downloading All Rows in OBIEE 11g

Hi all,
I'm just starting using OBIEE 11g, and found out the difference between 11g and 10g on the downloading of query result from the Answers.
In OBIEE 10g:
(1) Default rows shown in the table view is 25.
(2) Clicking on "show all rows" will show all available rows.
(3) Downloading to Excel will download all available rows, no matter what I'm currently seeing. So even if I'm seeing row 1-25, all available rows will be downloaded; if I'm seeing row 100-125, all available rows will be downloaded; and so forth.
In OBIEE 11g:
(a) Default rows shown in the table view is 25.
(b) Clicking on "show all rows" will only shows 500 rows.
(c) Downloading to Excel will only download the rows which are currently shown. So if I'm seeing row 1-25, that's all that will be downloaded; if I'm seeing row 501-1001, that's all that will be downloaded; and so forth.
I've looked at some blogs about this, and found out that it is possible to increase the number of maximum rows shown by adding <MaxVisibleRows>500000</MaxVisibleRows> and changing <DefaultRowsDisplayedInDownload>500000</DefaultRowsDisplayedInDownload> in the instanceconfig.xml file. It solved the problem (b) above. So now, clicking on "show all rows" will show 500000 rows. It's not really show all rows, but it should be enough.
However, problem (c) still exists. I can only download all rows after clicking "show all rows" first. It means, I will have to show the maximum 5000000 rows first so that I can download them. Which is different from 10g, as mentioned in point (3) above.
I'd like to be able to download all available rows without having to show all the rows first. Because if I have to show all the rows first, when there are a lot of records, it will make the browser hang. Is it possible to achieve the same method as what was done in 10g? Any advice?

Export OLAP 11G AW/Cubes to OBIEE 11g

Hi Experts,
If anyone has handled this assignment of exporting OLAP 11G AW/Cubes to OBIEE 11g, Please share all details. Currently we use BO for reporting requirements and before going ahead with OBIEE 11g would like to make sure there is not much of a gap. As of now we see a lot of incompatibility while exporting like some dims and cubes cannot be exported and so on. Any white paper/docs/information on this from experienced folks are welcome.
We are on 11.2.0.3 db release.

Here is some basic information about importing 11g analytic workspace cube and dimension metadata into OBIEE.
There are two basic options as I suspect you already know:
Option 1) Before the release of OBIEE 11.1.1.5 (I believe), there was no native support for the OLAP option within the administrator tool of OBIEE, and
one needed to use the AwM plug-in to OBIEE. The AwM plug-in generates a UDML file which can be imported into OBIEE using the OBIEE admin tool.
The AwM plug-in to OBIEE generates metadata for the source, business model, and presentation layers. The very latest version of the AwM plug-in will specially
handle calculated measures created in AwM and create the proper calculcated measure expression in OBIEE. This is very important if you are querying above the cube
to get the correct aggregation results. One area that has limited support is if a dimension only has value-based hierarchies. The plug-in will create a very simple level-based
hierarchy to at least allow the dimension to be successfully created. You then need to do more work within the OBIEE administration tool to create the fully baked
value-based hierarchies. I do not have any real-world experience with value-based hierarchies in OBIEE. Again, the AwM plug-in to OBIEE works with level-based hierarchies
and supports multiple hierarchies per dimension. The AwM plug-in to OBIEE is available on the OTN download page for the OLAP option.

Option 2) OBIEE 11.1.1.5 and later allows for native integration for accepting OLAP 11g dimension and cube metadata as a supported source.
This integration makes the AwM plug-in somewhat obsolete (except for the calculated measure expression integration which is unique to the AwM plug-in and using
AwM to create calculated measures including time-based calculated measures)
Please expand on the incompatibility issues you are running into. Is this related to a lot of value-based hierarchies or other issues?

New to OBIEE 11g

hi all
im new to 11g, been working with 10g for the past 4 years.
just finished the install and and everything looks good.
open up the admin tool, and open the repository
and its asking me for a repository password to coreapplication_OH1406836271
what is this?
i enter the password i used when running the RCU, but it returns with incorrect repository password.
is this just the repository for the sample came with the install?
