Obiee Data source

In Real time where we have database either in windows or linux ?
if we have to connect to from linux database how we connect to database ?

Hi,
Most of the time database lies in Unix Server.
in both cases we connect to database from RPD in same manner.
Using datasource string in Connection pool.
EX : (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=172.xx.xxx.xxx)(PORT=1523))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=<<ur sid name>>)))

  • Oracle OLAP as OBIEE Data Source

I've got a couple of questions regarding the use of Oracle OLAP (Analytic Workspace/Cube) as an OBIEE data source.
First: As a general rule when creating a dimension, we create a total roll-up for the dimension i.e. "Total Product", "Total Geog", "Total Customer" etc... Generally, I don't create a total roll-up for time dimensions. When importing metadata from OLAP to OBIEE, OBIEE creates a "Total" level for all dimensions. Now, I understand why OBIEE does that; to support queries that might exclude one or more dimensions. My question is: what is the best method/procedure to deal with the extra "Total" level?
Second: I would appreciate it if someone could explain this error for me: [nQSError: 59137] Filter level YEAR is below the projected level Total on dimension CMP_TIME while an externally aggregated measure is present. (HY000). I understand the words, but have no clue what OBIEE is trying to tell me. This error pops up constantly and I see no rhyme or reason that would cause it. the specific case above occurred when I clicked on the sort icon for a measure included in a report.
    Thanks,

    Mark,
Thanks for the reply. However, I'm not sure I made myself clear. I have created a "Product" dimension in AWM (Analytic Workspace Manager) in the following structure: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product. Withing the context this hierarchy, "Total Product" is the "Grand Total" Level. When this data is imported into OBIEE using "Oracle OLAP" as a data source, the Product hierarchy is created in the Physical Layer as an "Oracle OLAP Dimension". In the BMM Layer, the hierarchy is structured as: Product -> Product Line -> Total Product -> Total. There are now two "Total" Levels. Naturally only one, the OBIEE generated Total, is defined as "Grand Total". The only child of the Total level is Total Product. I have two hierarchy levels that are the same. So, do we need both? should we keep both? Should a dimension defined within AWM for use in OBIEE NOT include a total level? It's not really a problem, it just doesn't seem to make any sense to have TWO total levels within a hierarchy.
On the second issue, I wish I could provide some detail, but I'm really not sure how I'd do that. That's why I asked for the meaning of the error. What is OBIEE telling me that I'm doing wrong. All I really did was import the metadata, drag it to the BMM Layer, deleted some of the hierarchy level keys, renamed some columns and dragged the stuff over to the Presentation Layer. So, it's pretty much drag-and-drop.
Another example of the error: We have a Category Dimension (Sub Category -> Category -> Category Group -> Model -> All Categories -> Total) and I want to see the top 10 values of a measure by Category by Model. In an Analysis, adding the Model column works fine, just not the best visualization. Move the Model column to "Sections" and all works; move the Model column to Pivot Table Prompts and it errors. Obviously, I'm asking OBIEE to do something it doesn't want to do, so I'm looking for the root cause of the error.
    Thanks,

  • Create new column in BI Admin Tool being HFM the OBIEE data source.

    Hi all,
I am developing a BI project using OBIEE 11g 11.1.6.4 and HFM 11.1.2.1. HFM is the data source for OBIEE.
Having the metadata imported in the physical and in the BMM layers, what I want to do is create a new column that will contain a float value. This float value depends on Account dimension, that is, if account name is 'XYZ', in a join of all dimensions, this new column´s value should be the same for all the other accounts in the same join.
I have reached a point that the new column created shows the same number (value) as the logical column 'value' of the fact table, but I don´t know how or where specify which value (the one of the account name 'XYZ') should be for the rest of the new column (where account name is not equal to 'XYZ').
I hope it is understandable, if something is not clear, please ask me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Borja

    Hi,
yeah when i put * in the set online filter i am able to see the users which i have created in weblogic. After all the users appear then i select Action-> close. Now again when i try to cross check it once again i again clicked on manage->indentity->now i dont see the users. what could be the issue?

  • 11g bi publisher data model generic columns names for obiee data source?

I'm just trying to figure out if this is a bug, expected behavior or installation problem. When I select an Oracle BI Analysis to add to the data model diagram the column names are not copied over. Instead they are all renamed as Column0-ColumnNN.
    Thanks

  • Not getting connected to a data source in obiee 11g

    Hi friends,
In OBIEE 11g I cannot able to import meta data into a new repository...
It is not connecting to data source for importing meta data
It throws the error like connection is failed....
I have also restarted the services and also checked for the odbc connectivity it is showing connection is
    successful..
I also entered the corresponding details in TNS notepad...
    These are the following details
    TEST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = 172.16.1.110)
    (PORT = 1522)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = TEST)
The data source name that i was given is ORCLBI for my reference...
Then why it is not getting connecting to the data source..Help me friends For importing tables to my repository as soon as it is connected to the data source...

  • Time series functions are not working in OBIEE for ESSBASE data source

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem in OBIEE as I am getting error messages for measure columns with Time series functions(Ago,ToDate and PeriodRolling) in both RPD and Answers.
Error is "Target database does not support Ago operation".
But I am aware of OBIEE supports Time Series functions for Essbase data source.
using Hyperion 9.3.1 as data source and obiee 11.1.1.5.0 as reporting tool.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Aravind

    Hi,
is because the time series function are not supported for the framentation content, see the content of the oracle support:
The error occurs due to the fact the fragmented data sources are used on some Time series measures. Time series measures (i.e. AGO) are not supported on fragmented data sources.
Confirmation is documented in the following guide - Creating and Administering the Business Model and Mapping Layer in an Oracle BI Repository > Process of Creating and Administering Dimensions
Ago or ToDate functionality is not supported on fragmented logical table sources. For more information, refer to “About Time Series Conversion Functions” on page 197.

  • OBIEE 10g/11g RPD as a Data Source - Driver Name for metadata imports

    Hi,
I'm trying to use OBIEE's RPD as a relational source in Informatica 9.5.1 PowerCenter Designer. I have the ODBC connection to the OBIEE's BI Server and can connect to it. I'm using OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 (I also need to do something similar with OBIEE 11g). I've posted this question to the Informatica forum as well.
In order to use OBIEE as a third-party relational data source, Informatica needs OBIEE's DLL for metadata imports.
    I've tried, with no luck, NQSODBC.DLL & NQSDRIVER.DLL.
Does anyone know what DLL it might be? It could be an issue on Informatica's end as well.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    For some more details, you can refer to the following document;
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/discoverer/discoverer-metadata-conversion-assi-128504.pdf
    My personal expreriences:
The Metadata Conversion Utility is an accellerator / assistant. It does not provide you with an end product. There is some additional handwork requiered. It could be a risk when you copy an old Oracle Discoverer environment. Shit in is shit out. Last but not least; There is not yet a workbook migration utility.

  • Oracle EBS Discoverer as a data source for OBIEE 11g

We are a heavy user of Discoverer workbooks with Oracle EBS. We're moving to OBIEE 11g(11.1.1.3) and have an RPD with both 3rd party and custom content.
I wanted to ask the experts here how I can leverage my Discoverer investment with out a lot of re-work in OBIEE. I briefly looked at the MigrateEUL.exe and it says it can move an EUL to an RPD, but talks about some limitations for complex EULs such as an EBS Apps EUL. Even if it created an RPD, I'm not sure how I can merge my current RPD and this newly gen'd RPD.
I also heard from someone that there is a way to setup Discoverer EUL as a standard data source in OBIEE 11g and consume it directly. I'm looking for a document or blog that explains these steps. Any pointers or experiences with the above is appreciated!!
    Thanks.

  • Selecting data source in physical view in OBIEE 11G when using sql server

    Hi,
I doing my physical view against a 2008 R2 SQL Server. Looks like the list goes upto 2005. Should I select 2005 in that case? As per image: http://i.imgur.com/3H7MO.png
    Cheers.
    I am using OBIEE 11G 32bit Windows.

    Hi,
Yes can. either you can select as SQL 2005 or ODBC basic also can
I hope your version less than obiee11.1.1.5.0, version 11.1.1.1.6.0 and above has update SQL 2008 in the data source selection list.

  • Table views  as data source to imported in OBIEE

I have a data source that consist of tables view and packages and function and I needed to import them into OBIEE physical layer. I never imported tables view into the physical layer , so I will like some help. As far as the packages and functions, how do you deal with them when importing the tables view in OBIEE?

    Hi friend,
To import a view follow nexts steps on administration tool:
    - File -> import -> from database
    - Select correct connection type (at the same way when you import a table).
    - Enter correct user and password.
    - Go to correct schema which contain data base elements.
    - Select check box "Views". Now it will appear views created in that schema.
    Good luck.

  • OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 64-Bit - Define MS Access Data Source

    Hi
On our 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 64-Bit OBIEE installation I'd like to define an ms access db as data source. We had that in OBIEE 10G too but there it was an 32-Bit ODBC-Source.
It seems that OBIEE 11G only accepts 64-Bit ODBC-sources. But for 64-ODBC there aren't any existing ms access drivers.
Did anybody deal with the same problem and found a solution for it?
    Regards

    Hi,
you download AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe and install it then you can able to find it excel data source in 64bit version. (we too faced this issues few years back and test with windows server 2008) working fine.
you can download from below link

  • OBIEE report with HFM and Essbase Data source

    Hi All,
Just want your though can we get the data from HFM and Essbase data source in a single report i.e. for some account i want to show budget data from HFM and Forecast data from essbase in a single OBIEE report? If yes how can we model both Data source in rpd?

It possible but the challenge is to try to align the account hierarchy and the entity hierarchy between Essbase and HFM. HFM is looking the data at a top side consolidation level where planning will have more granular details to forecast correctly. The best solution is either to build a custom table in to import both sources, or to use HFM data into Essbase, or to use EPMA. The best in class solution stays to align hierarchies and metadata across applications. We implemented BI Financials Dashboard for the General Ledger, built a custom Dashboard connected in Real Time to Planning and are installing OFMA to connect HFM. Once done, you can rationalize metadata if not done before and start to link the different data into single reports. You will also have to ensure the data is refreshed at the same time to avoid inconsistency.

  • Obiee with unstructured data source

    Hi,
How to work with Unstructured data sources using OBIEE 11g?Anybody any idea?examples would really help.
Is it also available in 10g also?
    Please Help.
    Regards,
    Krish

    Hi Krish,
It's actually possible to use OBIEE with unstructured data.
Even if you don't have real FK relations in your database and a proper model, OBIEE can create queries if you tell him where to find the joins and how they are defined.
The Idea is to create you FK in the physical layer and try to have a 3FN schema (star schema with Dimension and Fact) as much as possbile in your Business layer.
A very nice presentation is available on Mark Rittman webite:
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/files/3_Complex_Modeling_with_OBIEE_Elio_Idema.pdf
Hope it will help you to start.

  • OBIEE Fragmentation using Essbase as data sources

    Hi-
How can we create a fragmentation on OBIEE taking data sources from 2 cubes? For example:
I have 3 dimensions (same outline on both cubes):
    Account:
    - Account 1
    - Account 2
    Product:
    - Product 1
    - Product 2
    Year:
    - Y2008
    - Y2009
And how can we set the fragmentation, if we want to take Y2008 data from cube 1, and Y2009 data from cube 2?
    I've tried to set:
    on BMM:
    Account:
    -source:
    --cube1
aggregation content, group by: Logical level
    fragmentation content: cube1."year"."Gen2,year" = 'Y2008'
    --cube2
aggregation content, group by: Logical level
    fragmentation content: cube1."year"."Gen2,year" = 'Y2009'
    Year:
    -source:
    --cube1
aggregation content, group by: Logical level
    Mapped Year to Gen2,year
    fragmentation content: cube1."year"."Gen2,year" = 'Y2008'
    --cube2
aggregation content, group by: Logical level
    Mapped Year to Gen2,year
    fragmentation content: cube1."year"."Gen2,year" = 'Y2009'
It still only taking the data from cube 1.
And when I tried to check the: "This source should be combined with other sources at this level" it returned error:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 42043] An external aggregate is found in an outer query block. (HY000)
    Please advise,
    Kind regards

  • OBIEE using MOSS (Sharepoint Server) as data source

    Hi,
Is it possible to use Microsfot Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS) as data source for OBIEE?
If not, what would be the best approach to make the information within MOSS "viewable" to OBIEE?
    Best regards,

Can you access MOSS via ODBC? If so you should be able to access it. Rather than asking if OBIEE can read MOSS you should look at what connection options MOSS supports and check if OBIEE supports any of them.
