OBIEE Marketing Module 10g vs 11g

Hi all,
I was wondering if you guys could help me.
I've seen a lot of comparisons between both OBIEE 10g and 11g.
However, what I'm trying to find are the differences between their Marketing modules, could anyone help me on that?

RPD metadata-wise there's no real difference. Target Levels, Qualified List Items, List Catalogs, Conformed Dimension Links. That's about it. Just checked it against the Siebel Analytics 7.7 content from 2004 last week and it hasn't really moved.
Siebel-side I can't give you an exhaustive answer though, sorry.

Error in reports after upgrade from OBIEE 10g to 11g : [nQSError: 14025]

Hi All, We upgraded RPD and web catalog from OBIEE 10g to 11.1.1.5. I see the following error while running few reports.
Error: State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A
general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
[nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail:
When I add an user under BIAdministrator Application role and login, all the reports work correctly.
I verified Oracle BUG fix (11850704) document and tried to make changes as suggested.
Please suggest me if this issue is related to 10g to 11g RPD upgrade or are we missing any privileges?
Also should I add every user to BIAdministrator role to avoid this issue?

First of all i am not familiar on linux box.
I tried in windows environment the rpd is deployed with out any errors.
But i ran the ua.bat file in the following path
\MWHOME\Oracle_BI1\bin\ua.bat.
while i am running in oracle_common\bin\ua.bat is not responding in my local system.

EPMMaster.rpd Fusion Pack migration from OBIEE 10g to 11g

We have successfully installed OBIEE 10g and 11g on Windows 2008 32bit servers. On the 10g Installation, we have applied the Fusion Pack EPMMaster RPD file and it connects successfully to our EPM warehouse. We want to migrate the Fusion pack to 11g which is also setup on the same platform. Per the instructions in the documentation, we have copied the files (RPD file and Webcat folder) to the 11g server. We run the UA.bat file and it proceeds to start copying the files over fom the RPD and WebCatalog to the new system. It completes this process, but then hangs on starting the Oracle BI server - it never gets beyond that.
We will be purchasing the EPMMaster RPD and know it is not available yet for 11g – however we’re trying to get ahead of the curve a bit and manually fix the items in the presentation layer that will not render correctly in 11g
upgrade exception occurred

One thing that I noticed – Since the UA tool does not completely finish --
RPD size on 10g – 42,675KB; 11g – 6,375KB
I manually change the webcat in Enterprise Manager to the EPMMaster catalog -this actually caused additional errors on restart.
Has anyone attempted upgrading a delivered RPD to 11g?

This is a known issue that we have worked through with Oracle tech support. The Dimension Deduction.Deduction Sid causes an error that prevents the UA tool from completing the upgrade process. There are a couple of ways around this, but the fastest is to simply delete the Dimension, the two related hierarchies and the fact table that is joined to this dimension. Physical table do not need to be touched however. There are still issues once it’s moved to 11g, but those can be addressed post migration. Thanks much to the Oracle support team for helping us out with this issue!

Upgrade issues OBIEE 10g to 11g along with OBIA upgrade

Hi,
I have to upgrade OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 to OBIEE 11.1.1.5 along with OBIA 7.9.6.1 to 7.9.6.5(Informatica 8.6.1 to 9.0.1) at my client location and I have very little knowledge on it. and want to know/have help documents for upgrade.
And if anyone in the forums involved in upgrade please list the errors/issues occured during upgrade and after upgrade.
1. OBIEE 10g to 11g upgrade issues??
2. OBIA OBIA 7.9.6.1 to 7.9.6.5 upgrade issues along with 10g to 11g??
3. Informatica 8.6.1 to 9.0.1 upgrade issues??
4. DAC upgrade issues??

Challenges while Upgrading from OBIEE 10g to 11g

Hi Gurus,
This is Kiran again. This time I am back with the upgradation issues. We have a client which is currently on OBIEE 10g. All components are already configured in OBIEE 10g with client on RPD, Catalog and implemented all security levels for those.
Now the challenge is to upgrade all activities which we have configured in OBIEE 10g. I have seen lot of stuff online and understood how to upgrade from OBIEE 10g to OBIEE 11g by simply clicking on ua.bat file. But I am unable to understand the process how it is upgrading the securities and environments.
Can anyone help me out by providing necessary stuff I need to take care of before taking the decision to upgrade from OBIEE 10g to 11g.
And also please clear me whether we will have any challenges in upgrading process. If yes, then what kind of challenges we will face and what kind of necessary steps we need to implement to resolve it.
What kind of Architecture we need to follow?
How Schedulers will get upgraded?
Please help me out with your real experiences (Not the online websites). Your response will be highly appreciated and it will help lot of OBIEE professionals who are in the process of upgradation.

Unable to Sign in analytics After Upgraded obiee from 10g to 11g

Hi all,
I have problem when upgrading catalog from 10g to 11g.
The error is:" Unable to Sign In . An invalid User Name or Password was entered. "
I upgraded following the steps like this:
1.Login EM and check BI server is running successfully.
2.Started the UA.bat.
Select the operation:Upgrade Oracle BI RPD and Web Catalog.
Step by Step,and the upgrade completed successfully.
3.Open the RPD online using the Admintool succefully.
4.But when I Login the BI and view the dashboard with the 10g's user (Administrator),the page appear the error "*Unable to Sign In . An invalid User Name or Password was entered.* "
5.Then I Try to Regenerating User GUIDs
1. Update the FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS parameter in NQSConfig.INI:
a. Open NQSConfig.INI for editing at:
b. ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OracleBIServerComponent/coreapplication_obisn
c. Locate the FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS parameter and set it to YES, as follows:
d. FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS = YES;
e. Save and close the file.
2. Update the Catalog element in instanceconfig.xml:
a. Open instanceconfig.xml for editing at:
b. ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent/
c. coreapplication_obipsn
d. Locate the Catalog element and update it as follows:
e. <Catalog>
f. <UpgradeAndExit>false</UpgradeAndExit>

h. </Catalog>
i. Save and close the file.
3. Restart the Oracle Business Intelligence system components using opmnctl:

6. ./opmnctl startall
7. Set the FMW_UPDATE_ROLE_AND_USER_REF_GUIDS parameter in NQSConfig.INI back to NO.
Important: You must perform this step to ensure that your system is secure.
8. Update the Catalog element in instanceconfig.xml to remove the UpdateAccount GUIDs entry.
9. Restart the Oracle Business Intelligence system components again using opmnctl:
10. cd ORACLE_HOME/admin/instancen/bin
11. ./opmnctl stopall
12. ./opmnctl startall

if your using oracle db please make sure your db settings and tnsnames.oRA settings
also try you please try below troubleshooting steps:
1) please check latest error message and find the root cause,
presentation catalog log path:
obiee installed Drive:\Oracle\Middleware\instances\instance1\diagnostics\logs\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1\sawlog0.txt file
also check it nqserver.log file
oracle bi server log path ref:
obiee installed Drive:\Oracle\Middleware\instances\instance1\diagnostics\logs\OracleBIServerComponent\coreapplication_obis1\nqserver.log
2)can you try to login RPD,EM and console by using your weblogic a/c then try to login with some other user.
if its not working then try to delete that users from catlog and check it Check OPMN services are running state.

Cannot find dashboard and reports after upgrading rdp from 10g to 11g OBIEE

Hi all
I am trying to upgrade from OBIEE 10g to 11g. These two products are installed on different servers. I have followed the guide: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/issue-archive/2011/11-jul/o41bi-402913.html and everything seems to work fine.
So i have taken a copy of rdp from the server where was installed OBIEE 10g and took it in the server where OBIEE 11g is installed.
Ran the upgrade tool and upgrade finished successfully. Restarted the BI Servers in core application on Enterprise Manager.
Now when i access the upgraded rpd, the layers and the fields are fine but I cannot find all the reports and dashboards that i had created.
Am I missing any upgrade steps?

Thanks a lot for the information. First of all I would like to inform you that upgrade CANNOT be performed across two machine. So, if 10g installation is on Host A, then upgrade to 11g will be on Host A.
So, in your scenario this is what you can do:
1. On Host A running Forms/Discoverer 10g on Windows 2003, install Forms/Discoverer/Reports 11g (11.1.1.6.0)
2. Run the upgrade Assistant to perform the upgrade from 10g to 11g.
3. Now upgrade OS of Host A to Windows 2008
In short, I would like to inform you that upgrades across machines does not work. Source instance which is 10g and destination instance which is 11g must exist on same box.

Can I install OBIEE 10g and 11g on the same machine?

While I'm waiting for new hardware, I wanted to get started on installing OBIEE 11g on my laptop. Can I do this if I already have 10g installed?
I want to make sure if I install it that it will not impact my current 10g setup. I'm not sure if it overrides certain files and folders or if I can do a separate installation to have both.

I have OBIEE 10g on my Production box pointing to the Oracle Database 11g R1 which is also having OWB integrated in it.
Now, I am planning to upgrade OBIEE 10g to 11g and Oracle Database from 11g R1 to 11g R2, so that OWB will also be upgarded, as it is integrated in 11gR2.
I am confused about, how to run RCU on the database, as OBIEE 10g schemas and packages will already be there in the database.
If I run RCU again, what will it do???
Has anyone done this before? or any good document available ?

Issues after upgrading the Obiee from 10g to 11g

Hi all,
We have recently upgraded our rpd from 10g to 11g. And a part of Webcatlog is being upgraded. We observe issues with the upgraded reports.
As the for the report prompts the script was taking lot of time. And the browser pop's a message either to 'stop' or 'continue'.
The report is taking lot of time to run than the usual 10g environment. And the path BP1 is also applied for the 11g environment.
Please suggest a troubleshoot method to overcome the issues with the upgraded reports.

Upgrading Obiee 10g to 11g.

Hi Guru's,
I had upgraded one of the RPD/Catalog(which are in sync) from 10g to 11g with ua.bat utility. Upgrade successfully completed with out errors & warnings.
I logged on to the BI Answers and able to run/see the data in the existing reports.
Here the problem is i am not able to see the existing Dashboards of Shared folder. what might be the reason

You mean images that we use in dashboards...If so in 10g its at this location C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res\s_oracle10\images
Check for the style folder you will have images in that folder.
You can find at this location...C:\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\app\res\s_blafp\images

In upgrade of OBIEE 10g to 11g does one have to merge the RPD.

In Oracle's documentation they mentioned that the RPD and catalog need to be merged (Section 3.22 and 3.23) . However, i have successfully run upgrade assistant to upgrade the old catalog and rpd. Is there still a need to do the merges.

General question about Marketing Module (OBIEE)

I'm trying to deploy OBI Marketing functionality integrated with Oracle Siebel CRM.
I have set up sample preconfigured rpd and marketing data, provided by Oracle:
+>EnterpriseBusinessAnalytics.zip+
+>OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd+
The point is that in preconfigured rpd all Qualified List Items use Oracle Data Warehouse Connection Pool. But in my case I do not have ODW deployed. I have only one data source - Siebel CRM DB.
And My question is..
What is the most popular practise when deploying Siebel Marketing Module (OBI)? How do you decide whether to use preconfigured rpd or to deploy your own one when deploy siebel marketing functionaluty? And how much is it performable to use preconfigured repository and metadata? Is it always applicable to use it?

You want to run Segmentation against the OLTP tables? Impressive! Make sure you have a good explanation for the CRM guys for every time their database dies.
The most popular practice is to actually use an analysis-oriented database rather than a transactional one. Parsing a couple of million S_CAMP_CON records with an 8KB blocksize isn't fun.
The decision between preconfigured and custom rpd boils down to this: how much of the standard functionality are you actually using and how much has been customized? If your segmentation criteria don't match the ones inthe preconfigured rpd at all, then you'll need to add to it or just drop it if you really have nothing in common with the OOB one.
That said...there's still the DWH part. And there I really wouldn't suggest building your WH from scratch. Add to the existing, modify it etc.

Application has problems when migrated from 10g to 11g

Hi there,
I am hoping someone can shed some light on a problem I have in moving an application from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g. The app works fine on 10g (uses Apache webserver with PL/SQL module, and APEX 3.1.2.00.2), but on 11g using the embedded web server and APEX 3.2.0.00.27, it doesnt. Most of the app works fine, but there are a couple of pages that provide the ability to add child rows to a parent/child relationship, where the parameter passing mechanism from one page to the next appears to suffer from some sort of corruption. I have traced this using the "session" and "debug" buttons on the developer interface, which show that the values of the parameters get changed inexplicably, when branching from one page to the next - even when the page is actually branching to itself.
I am using the "Set these items, "With these values" fields in the branch, and have verified that the correct values are being associated with the correct items in the application builder. But while this does work correctly under 10g, with 11g, the wrong values end up being passed. Just prior to the branch the set of parameters have the correct values, but immediately after the branch, one of the values is NULL, another has the value of a different item, and a third has a totally random value - I have no idea were it comes from!
I migrated the application from 10g to 11g using the APEX application developer's Export/Import options. There have been no other changes. Should this have worked? If so, any ideas what might have gone wrong?

Well, I managed to solve this, but not in a way that makes much sense.
In desperation (I had tried almost everything else!) I changed the value of "Cached" in the page settings from "No" to "Yes", and ran the app, but the page didnt render correctly (in either Firefox or IE7) - in fact all that displayed was the developers toolbar at the bottom of the page. I changed the value of "Cached" back to "Y", ran the app again, and hey presto - everything worked fine! I actually did this a second time with a fresh import of the app from 10g, just to be sure I wasnt seeing things. I wasnt!
There was just one further issue - everything worked fine apart from this section of code in a page process:-

:p9_filter := :p9_x_gene_list;
END IF;
:p9_entity_types := 'GENE';
END IF;
In 11g the value of :p9_entity_types was not being set to 'GENE' when :p9_filter_type was 5. This was (and still is) working in 10g. I changed the code as follows:-

:p9_entity_types := 'GENE';
IF (:p9_x_gene_list IS NOT NULL) THEN
:p9_filter := :p9_x_gene_list;
END IF;
END IF;
... and now it works fine in 11g as well.
Only wish I knew why!
