OBIEE sample database files

Hi,
I'm new to this and got a quick question about the OBIEE 11g Samples - the 5 tables : samp_addresses_D, samp_customers_d, samp_products_d, samp_revenue_f,
samp_time_day_D from the first exercise for the Administration Tool (downloaded @ http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/obiee-samples-167534.html). In which form/ structure is the database when I import it to the physical layer ->a normal relational or is it a dimensional model?
thanks

I see - its a star schema with relational tables. I was wondering about the hierarchical structure. Because I wanted to use the oracle warehouse builder to create my hierarchies and then my cube (fact table). But I really see no point in that, because I can do these type of things with the Administration Tool .But where do I get my time table? Please correct me if I am wrong. And thx for the fast answers.

    When i configure my dbora file to start database the time mechines reboots.it doesn't work.
    and it gives me that error.
    But after commenting dbora file and starting database and listener and emctl manually.everything works fine all the instances are available..no problem...

  • What are the ODBC connect details for the HR sample database?

    I have installed Oracle Express on Ubuntu 8.10 and read the Getting Started tutorials. Everything worked fine.
    THE DSN
    I need to connect via ODBC, to start with to the HR sample database on my PC.
    The Getting Started tutorial says the userid and password are both hr, but what is the data source name (dsn) to be used with the SQLConnect?
    THE INIs
    The ini files below are the result of googling, not of any insight on my part.
    /etc/odbcinst.ini
    [OracleExpressdrv]
    Driver = /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/lib/libsqora.so.10.1
    Description = Oracle 10g express driver
    /etc/odbc.ini
    [hrdsn]
    Driver = OracleExpressdrv
    Application Attributes = T
    Attributes = W
    BatchAutocommitMode = IfAllSuccessful
    CloseCursor = F
    DisableDPM = F
    DisableMTS = T
    DSN = TestDSN
    EXECSchemaOpt =
    EXECSyntax = T
    Failover = T
    FailoverDelay = 10
    FailoverRetryCount = 10
    FetchBufferSize = 64000
    ForceWCHAR = F
    Lobs = T
    Longs = T
    MetadataIdDefault = F
    QueryTimeout = T
    ResultSets = T
    # ServerName is TNS_alias_from_tnsnames.ora
    ServerName = OraDB
    SQLGetData extensions = F
    Translation DLL =
    Translation Option = 0
    UserID = ken
    THE ENVIRONMENT
    Before running my odbc test program I issued
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/lib;export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    and checked via env command that the ldlibpath actually had been set correctly.
    After SQLConnect received the following error:
    Usage error: SQLConnect: dsn=hrdsn, user=hr, password=hr <<< output by my test program
    1: st=IM002, nerr=0, msg=
    [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified
    The first part of the error message hints at there being something wrong with dsn=hrdsn. I don't understand the second part 'and no default driver specified'.
    I am totally stuck. Advice would be most appreciated.

    Oracle® Database Express Edition Installation Guide for Linux talks about Compiling the Oracle ODBC Driver Demos. It tells you to download and install the unixODBC DriverManager from unixODBC. On Ubuntu this is already preinstalled and/or available via the Synaptic Manager. It also instructs you to run a makefile demo_xe.mk to build an odbcdemo program. The makefile did not work for me (hundreds of compilation errors), but I looked at the odbcdemo.c code and could see that dsn=TESTDBDSN for user=hr and password=hr. In other words, by luck the demo program seems to be connecting to the HR sample database.
    I changed the /etc/odbc.ini file to:
    [TestDBDSN]
    Application Attributes = T
    Attributes = W
    BatchAutocommitMode = IfAllSuccessful
    CloseCursor = F
    DisableDPM = F
    DisableMTS = T
    Driver = OracleExpressdrv
    DSN = TestDBDSN
    and also in my test program which now produced the following error:
    Usage error: SQLConnect: dsn=TestDBDSN, user=hr, password=hr
    1: st=IM004, nerr=0, msg=
    [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_HENV failed
    which shows that the unixODBC driver manager has loaded the driver and that the driver immediately encountered problems.
    The sql calls issued before the SQLConnect("TestDBDSN", "hr" , "hr") were OK, i.e. these:
    rc0 = SQLAllocHandle ( SQL_HANDLE_ENV , SQL_NULL_HANDLE , &henv ) ;
    rc = SQLSetEnvAttr ( henv, SQL_ATTR_ODBC_VERSION , *)SQL_OV_ODBC3 , 0 ) ;
    rc = SQLAllocHandle ( SQL_HANDLE_DBC , henv , &hdbc ) ;
    SQLSetConnectAttr ( hdbc , SQL_LOGIN_TIMEOUT , (void*)5 , 0 ) ;
    However, the error appears after SQLConnect and yet the rc0 was reported as OK.
    The error message 'Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_HENV failed' is totally unhelpful to me as a user since I don't know the conditions that lead to failure. I really think this calls for some documentation. Such documentation should be complete, self-contained and correct and give ALL OPERATIONAL steps, i.e. I want to know exactly what I have to do. Ambiguous English often referring to undefined terms is not what Oracle beginners like myself want.
    I don't know if this is a bug. It is so fundamental that Oracle ODBC driver writers could/should not have got it wrong. The connect does not even start.
    I have googled for hours, but every lead has failed.
    I don't want to give up on this. What can I do?

  • 10gR2 under Solaris 10: Error creating sample database

    I am attempting to install 10gR2 on a Sun Ultra 10 Sparc workstation running Solaris 10. I successfully configured the ASM drives and loaded the software, and am now attempting to install the actual database software.
    While the installer is running the Database Configuration Assistant, the second "recommended" configuration program, I get an error almost halfway through that says "ORA-19879: error reading backup piece". Looking through the logs kept by the Assistant, I find this entry:

    Someone else with a similar problem solved it by installing the database software without the sample databases. I'll give that a try tomorrow, but I'd still like to know where I'm even supposed to look to find the problem I had above.
    Thanks,

    Okay, I've found at least one source for this problem. There is a script called mkplug.sql in the demo/schema directory that had a line that began "host imp .....". 'imp' is in the db_1/bin directory, which the PATH variable does not yet point to.
    So, my question now is whether I should change "host imp..." to "host $ORACLE_HOME/bin/imp..." in all the files it appears in (sted_mkplug.sql and sdoepsgv.sql, as well as mkplug.sql), or add $ORACLE_HOME/bin to the PATH variable manually.
    What I'm going to try is to deinstall the database, scrap the directories, then reload the software only. After that, I'll edit the files in the demo directory and use dbca to create the demo directories.

    Please stop multiposting you questions. Pick one forum and post it there not in several forums. That will not speedup the answer to your question, and just annoys other people in the forum.

  • Help: essbase sample database no data

    Hi all,
    I am newbie for essbase. I have installed the essbase server/client components. But I found there are no any data in sample database. eg, ASosamp.Sample, Demo.basic. by Visualize&Explore with excel addin.
    Who could please tell me how to have real data for good experience. Did I make a mistaken in installing procedure?
    Also appreciated to where to download other good demonstration database,
    Thanks in advance.
    seamus

    The data for the database is in a file called Calcdata.txt It is in an export file format so you don't need a load rule to load it. In AAS right click on the database name, select load data, the find the file and click ok. it will load without errors. Than you will need to calculate the dtabase. Agailn right click on the database name and select calculate. Select default and click ok. In a second or two the db will be calculated

  • Installing Sample Database for OPM Release 11.0.3

    Installing Sample Database for OPM Release 11.0.3
    I already installed OPM Application on an existing Vision Database VD11, and I followed the instructions to install OPM application up to end.
    I logged to Oracle Application as user: SYSADMIN/SYSADMIN, and I checked
    in the System Administrator Responsibility\Security\Responsibility all the OPM
    Responsibilities exisit, I assigned all OPM responsibilities to a user: OPERATIONS/WELCOME (OPM Inventory, OPM Financials,....etc), I signed to
    OPERATIONS user, I select one of the OPM Responsibilities (OPM Inventory), here if I try to do some query it gives me error: no records quaried, Okay that's mean I have to install Sample OPM Database Release 11.0.3
    My question:
    In the Sample Database for Apps R11 for OPM CD, I followed the instructions in the sample.pdf file to create a Database, but that .pdf file to create a new SID while I have already installed SID (VD11).
    My request is to import the data for OPM from sample11_03.dmp to my existing
    VD11 Database ?
    The initNAME.ora file in this CD contains roll_back segments (r01,r02,r03,r04)
    while initVD11.ora contains these Roll_back segments (rbs1,rbs2,rbs3).
    How I can modified the initNAME.ora and initVD11.ora to import the data for
    OPM from sample11_03.dmp to my existing VD11 Database or I don't know if it
    should be in a different SID ??
    Are there any NOTE to explain how to install Sample Database for OPM in an
    existing VD11 Database for Application R11?
    Please help will be appreciated.

  • Question reg sample init files??

    I was looking for sample init files
    I found the following files in Windows
    initsmpl.ora under C:\Oracle10g\product\10.2.0\admin\sample\pfile
    initdw.ora under C:\Oracle10g\product\10.2.0\dbs
    and in UNIX AIX
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle dba 8385 Sep 11 1998 init.ora
    -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 12920 May 03 2001 initdw.ora
    under /oracle/OraHome2/dbs
    I can see initdw.ora for datawarehouse databases
    I have following questions
    1.Are these are the only files I have mentioned are there or are there any more
    sample files i have missed?
    2. initsmpl.ora or init.ora are for which kind of databases ?General purpose or OLTP or?
    Thanx
    Gagan

    Hi,
    1 Those are the same files
    2 There are no special files are created for OLTP or DatawareHouse DataBases.
    These files are unique for different type of database you may choose. Only the parameters values will be
    adjusted based on the Environment upon which we create the database. It's parameters changes during the
    Course of Tuning of your database.

  • No sample database in Fix Pack 8.1.1.3

    Greetings, everyone.
    Currently, we run Siebel 8.1.1 on a Windows 2003 R2 Server. We want to install Siebel Fix Pack 8.1.1.3.
    In order to do so, I downloaded all 4 files from patchset 8.1.1.3 21219 SBA SEBL_ARU, unzipped them and created the installation image with Windows_ImageCreator.exe. The process completed successfully. However, we noticed that in the "Select products for image creation" screen there was no choice for Siebel Sample Database. And, indeed, the Installation image has no ..Siebel_Sample Database subfolder.
    This seems wrong because at page 454 of document "Siebel Maintenance Release Guide, Version 8.1.1.x, Rev S" there are instruction to install the Fix Pack for Siebel Sample Database.
    Has anyone experienced this before?
    Thanks for any help.
    Roque Daudt

    Hi,
    Recently I have installed Siebel 8.1.1 version on Windows Server and downloaded the Fixpack version 8.1.1.4 version.
    I have extracted the JAR files using Image Creation and am unable to find the "Sample Database" setup.
    I thought we wont require the Fix packs for sample database. Fix Pack for Tools & Web Client is enough.

  • OBIEE Sample

    Hi All,
    I just configured OBIEE Sample Virtual machine, I am trying to FTP some files to new virtual machine.
    FTP client is giving "530 login error" while connecting to server.
    Can you please suggest how we can configure FTP in oracle VM?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Sandeep

    I see - its a star schema with relational tables. I was wondering about the hierarchical structure. Because I wanted to use the oracle warehouse builder to create my hierarchies and then my cube (fact table). But I really see no point in that, because I can do these type of things with the Administration Tool .But where do I get my time table? Please correct me if I am wrong. And thx for the fast answers.

    When i start the samples database it always failed (it appears and dissappears at once), so when i try the livecycle samples tomcat throws this exception:
    java.sqj.SQLException: socket creation error

    My os is WindowsXP SP3
    Help me, please!

    JayanKandathil wrote:
    You must be trying to start the Samples database of LiveCycle Data Services?
    Yes, I can't start Samples database.
    Samples database port is 9002, isn't it? I was looking for it in TCPView, but didn't find. So i think 9002 is free.
    I have no firewall and stopped antivirus.
    I tried to change database port in server.properties file, but it didn't helped...
    Thanks for your answer, JayanKandathil!

  • Configuring Universal Inbox -- Sample Workflow files missing.

    hi,
    On page 156 of the "Siebel Applications Administration Guide" for version 8.0 in the bookshelf, the following was mentioned. But in my sample applicaion installation I could not find any of these sample workflow xml files. Is anybody out there able to locate these sample workflow files ? Or if you have some samples that can be shared on working with the Universal Inbox ?
    Where to Find the Sample Workflow Files
    These sample workflows are provided as part of the sample database installation. You can find these
    workflow files in the SIEBEL_CLIENT_HOME\SAMPLE\WORKFLOWS directory. (For example, C:\Program
    Files\Siebel\7.8\web client\SAMPLE\WORKFLOWS)
    The names of the files that contain the sample workflows are:
    ■ Inbox - Service Demo Creation.xml
    ■ Inbox - Service Action.xml
    ■ Inbox - Service Detail Action.xml
    Thanks
    S

    I received the 3 sample WFPs from someone this morning. This question can be closed now.
